LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Yermak by Maniulo 2021-04-28T04:55:16Z

I absolutely love this game. I'm a huge fan of turn-based games, and tabletop games. And I'm a huge fan of this game. :) I would be very happy to see it explored and expanded further. Thanks for making it!

Debt Collector by thomz12 2021-04-28T03:01:24Z

I need to bookmark this on my phone. So addictive. I love the leaderboard. Great art, music, mechanics, use of theme, etc. 5 stars. Thanks for making it!

Mr. & Ms. Deeper: Descent to Inner Depth by SIGILL 2021-04-27T18:53:49Z

Fun game. And very cute story/premise. The biggest improvement I could suggest is sound effects. Even very quick simple sound effects made with sfxr would go a long way if you have time for it. Another rather unimportant addition that would have been nice for me is a two player option. My wife and I actually worked together on this jam. This would be fun to play together. <3 However, I understand that it probably wouldn't have been worth the time and effort considering the vast majority of people would play single-player. As it is, it's a fun solid game. Thanks for making it!

Fly Brie To The Moon by candlesan 2021-05-03T03:34:03Z

I really like this one! It's simple, but I had a lot of fun. Very cute and unique. I like a lot of the little touches, like moving your mouse over the cheese to collect it. And I always like it when a game has a leaderboard. Thanks for making it!

Craft, Code, Burnout by gamescodedogs 2021-05-09T00:01:23Z

I really really want to like this game. It looks beautiful, and I love the concept. I've put over an hour into trying to like this game. Which is more than I've been giving most games, considering I'm trying to test and leave feedback on dozens of games. But there are just too many bugs and flaws. I had to restart the game three or four times (sometimes deep into the game) just because bugs prevented progression. Sometimes I just couldn't click on anything. Nothing would select or happen. Or the robots weren't able to harvest from a certain source anymore. They would just stand next to it, and I couldn't get the resource source to work. Often times I had to start all over because of these bugs. I like the burnout concept, but due to the other bugs and flaws I was facing, it would just burn me out instead and get me more frustrated. Also, constantly having to consult the recipe book was a bit much. In fact, flipping back and forth between tabs constantly (between the game and the recipe book) may have caused the bugs. By the time I had the recipes down in my mind, I was already burnt out on the game.

I really do like the concept for this game. And it's genuinely impressive how much you've been able to get done during the limited time of the jam. But maybe a narrower scope, and smaller recipe book could have given more time for polishing and bug-testing. In fact, if the game was shorter, and recipe book smaller; I probably wouldn't mind having to restart due to bugs. Because less progress would have been lost. The extensive amount of items and recipes could have been saved for a post-jam version. One where the player can learn the recipes in-game and have more time to learn and memorize said recipes organically.

I'm sorry. I really hope I don't sound too harsh. Like I said, I love the concept and look of the game. I'm happy you've made this game. And I would be very happy to see this project continued. To see it polished, balanced, and fleshed out. Maybe with little therapist robots that the burnt out robots could go to. :) In any case though, thank you for the game!

LAYERS by Le Slo 2021-04-28T04:05:07Z

This is really good. It's very clever and attractive. Genuinely the best puzzle game I've played so far this jam. Thanks for making it!

Rooted by Webox 2021-04-28T05:33:48Z

I love your use of the theme. Very evocative premise. The puzzles were real "stump"-ers. Bah dum tss. I loved the mole mechanic. Great job! Thanks for making it!

Date Night by Togis 2021-05-03T03:46:05Z

This was a fun challenge! I just wish this guy walked faster. I got fired the first time. Score of 110 the second time. I love the art and sound effects! Good job! I also liked the unique take on the theme. Thanks for making it!

Sublunker by Fuzzy Lobster 2021-04-27T18:25:28Z

The controls are a bit difficult, but I like them. Very interesting and fun once you get the hang of it, and it adds to the feeling of piloting a sub. I didn't experience any of the performance issue mentioned in the comments here. All worked great and looked great! I like the music too and sound effects. Thanks for making it!

Freg, Fregg, and Freggy: The Last Band by Honest Dan 2021-04-27T23:27:09Z

I absolutely love the artwork. It's gorgeous. The music and sound design was great too. Is your music/sound designer a jazz musician? The game was also very fun to play. My only suggestion would be details on what the cards do. I was able to guess some. But I wasn't sure for most of them, so I was mostly just playing random cards. I wasn't sure what the benefit to playing location cards was either. I was able to win in any case, and enjoyed doing so. Thanks for making the game!

Madman - The Crazy Scientist by mudlee 2021-05-07T02:07:25Z

I really like how you've interpreted the theme. Very fun. It felt very balanced. The hypnosis process took just long enough to be a nail biter, but not impossible. I really enjoyed it! It took me 518 seconds to win. The only constructive criticism I can offer is perhaps a more visual representation of the hypnosis process, like a loading bar above the citizen's head. The dialogue worked in a similar fashion, but took a while for me to memorize and interpret as such. Maybe I'm more of a visual learner than auditory. But in any case, I had fun! I think you did amazing. Thanks for making the game!

Eye of Skozrack by Echo GameWorks 2021-05-03T02:02:20Z

I too gave up on the second green level. There seems to be a big difficulty spike on that level. Sorry, I feel bad. I just couldn't do it. :( I like the concept though. It's fun. The art and sound effects are solid too. Thanks for making it!

Hungry Jungle by mitsu.artemius 2021-04-27T20:18:22Z

Fun! I lost more good men to berries than monkeys. I like the art and sound design. Thank you for making it!

Down the Dwarvern Hole by TheseusInABottle 2021-04-27T18:09:23Z

"Is this a key to my heart?" made me laugh out loud. Great voice-acting and writing! The puzzles were fun too. Thanks for making it! Good work!

Mental Abyss by Stefan0198 2021-04-27T20:46:10Z

I enjoyed it! The fake error at the beginning got me. I got Stanley Parable vibes on the first level. I liked the easter eggs, like the LDJam webpage, and the "Stonks". The stealth level and hacknslash levels were fun. Thanks for making it!

Juicy Trip by Anandhi 2021-04-28T02:36:55Z

Got a high score of 28 after some practice. Like others say, this would make a nice mobile game. It's fun! Thanks for making it!

20.000 LIGHT YEARS deep in THE SKY by Arivenzys 2021-04-28T03:32:23Z

Everything about this game is amazing. Artwork, music, sound design, voice acting, writing, gameplay. It was a blast. Thank you for making it!

The Depths (Ultimate Edition XXI) by sacredbacon 2021-04-29T03:44:50Z

This is a cool unique entry. It's true the camera made it difficult, but I welcomed the challenge. The art was very charming too. Thank you for making the game. I had fun!

Catlantis by fabula_rasa 2021-04-27T22:57:19Z

I like the artwork a lot. It's very cute and charming. The controls are nice and intuitive. It's really fun and a solid game! The only feedback I would give is that the animation/sound effect for giving damage is either the same or very similar to receiving damage. Distinguishing those two more would be nice. But that's really a minor nitpick. I know you didn't make the music, but I still liked it's selection. It fit really well and added to the experience. Thanks for making the game!

Deep Hunting by LudumDareDevil 2021-05-03T02:31:00Z

I used libGDX too! :raised_hands: But I also used Box2D for physics. And Tiled for level creation. And had a repository of code from various other games I've worked on to draw from. And had other talented teammates helping with art and sound design. (Which I have absolutely no talent for.) I think you did really well for a one-person team using only libGDX and working without any other pre-existing code. Better than I think I could have done, *especially* if this is your first time using libGDX. I love libGDX and I hope that you continue to learn, practice, and stick with it! Good job!

Experiment 626 by morcado 2021-04-27T03:26:13Z

I love the artwork! The stepping sound effect is a bit loud and repetitive, but I like the other ambient noise. Between the artwork and the writing, the mood of the game definitely gets a high score. Thanks for making this!

Fare Well by alanxoc3 2021-04-27T04:00:02Z

This is really cool! Very fun and challenging gameplay. Also love the artwork. Thanks for making it! Very clever name too, by the way. Gonna bookmark it to play again.

Lazy Movie Plot Maker 2000 by Fran Gambero 2021-04-27T21:10:47Z

This is addictive and hilarious.

Khazads by vsi- 2021-04-28T23:03:45Z

Nice game! I liked the effect when you enter a room on the first level, where everything outside fades out to brown. I also liked the controls. I liked the sound design. I liked the art and tileset... except the stone walls. I thought they were another kind of floor tiles at first. Also, I actually liked the boss fight. Thanks for making this game!

Virtually Deeper by Glaikunt 2021-05-07T02:26:20Z

I used libGDX too! You did amazing. I love the take on the theme. I also really like the strategic aspect of the game. I could only make it to stage 7. :unamused: But I like the challenging aspect of the game! It makes it fun. The main constructive criticism I can offer is to implement a better tutorial or instructions. It took me a while to understand the rules/mechanics/objective. Even after reading the instructions repeatedly. But in any case, I really like the game. Thanks for making it!

Spaception by HardScore 2021-04-28T02:48:33Z

Nice game! Very funny and a very unique take on the theme. Thank you for making it!

Subsanity by cannashblue 2021-04-27T21:46:21Z

@jkazuk I recommend trying the downloadable JAR version of the game. It has better performance on most computers. During playtesting, I noticed that the HTML5 version lags on some (but not all) computers. I'm still trying to optimize it.

Subsanity by cannashblue 2021-04-28T03:05:00Z

@0mbre It's possible that you're experiencing lag on the HTML5 version. It makes the controls very difficult. I could be wrong though. :) But one of my playtesting friends during the jam experienced bad lag and thought it was a controls issue too. The HTML5 version seems to have performance issues on some (not all) computers. I would recommend trying the downloadable JAR version if you can.

Subsanity by cannashblue 2021-04-28T22:26:57Z

@le-slo Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I knew the background tiling was an issue. It was one of those things where I said, "I'll fix it later when I have time." And the time never came. Same with the checkpoints. I hastily added the floppy discs because I figured I needed something to signal that they were checkpoints, but I didn't put enough time into their implementation... And I'll definitely keep the arrow keys in mind for next time; I didn't think of it. Thank you! This was my first game jam. I wish I had the experience I have now before going into it. It just means I'm looking forward to next time!

Subsanity by cannashblue 2021-04-28T22:35:32Z

@tommytheitguy Thank you! I actually had spent several hours early on coding a boss fight against a mantis shrimp that I never implemented, even though it was almost done. I just didn't think it fit the mood or vibe of what the game turned into. The song for the fight is actually in our soundtrack.zip on the itch.io page. The scope and design of the game changed a lot over the course of the jam. This was my first time participating in a game jam, so I wasted lots of time on things I didn't even use in the final product... If my team and I had a better vision and plan from the beginning I feel like we could have done so much better. We're all really looking forward to doing better next time!

Subsanity by cannashblue 2021-05-14T05:03:50Z

@oddballdave No worries, I really do like the constructive criticism. I actually designed the third level in the last few hours of the jam. I coded the geothermal vents in the final hour... I'm glad you enjoyed it! I just wish I had had more time to design more levels, or expand existing ones. I'm hoping next time to do a better job at planning and managing my time; this time was a mess as far as that goes. I'm very proud of our artist and composer though, they did great! :raised_hands:

Deeper and deeper by skaminska 2021-04-27T03:02:46Z

I'm glad I scanned the QR code in the bottle. Highly recommend to everyone else. The game is very fun! It took me little while to figure out the mechanics, but I thought it was quite clever after I figured it out. Thanks!

Into The Dark Blue by Stampizi 2021-05-03T19:19:41Z

I had fun! I like precision games like this. I was able to make it to the treasure, but wasn't able to make it back up. Like someone else in the comments says, the collision boxes could use some fine tuning. Also, sound effects and music would have been nice. (Unless there was and my audio wasn't working.) I know it's difficult on short time, but if you can squeeze audio in, it makes a big difference. Even if you use pre-existing assets and remove yourself from the audio category, it makes the whole experience more enjoyable and might boost your score in other categories. On a positive note, I really liked the hand drawn art style for sure. It's very unique and charming. Thanks for making the game!

Get On My Level by LoreTV 2021-05-03T19:00:45Z

Cool game! I like the take on the theme. The title reminds me of this Joel Haver video: https://youtu.be/AELyqh5Z1LA

Junk.E by kev_The_GameDev 2021-04-27T19:47:06Z

Very fun and I love the concept. Great art and sound design. Feels very polished.

Jewellery Journey by Niall_Chandler 2021-05-03T03:26:07Z

I had a lot of fun playing! I love precision platformers, this was a refreshing challenge amidst the games I've been playing. :D Thanks for making it!

Deep dreams by ruyoliveira 2021-05-10T19:39:36Z

Nice little card game! I love board and card games. Your game was fun, and I liked the artwork. The only constructive criticism that comes to my mind is that it needs more strategy. As it is, I just feel like I'm playing the best card I got without having much information to go off of. It feels like there is very little actually decision-making or choice. I think some of the other reviews here offer good suggestions. Such as certain combos, synergies, or lasting effects would be cool. I'm not sure, but having some way to anticipate the card the the enemy will play would be nice too. Maybe being able to see the strength of the card that the enemy is going to play before they play it, but not the color? If you make enemies able to block and heal, as well as attack.

In any case, thanks for the game! I enjoyed it.

Beepo's Shop by itsBoats 2021-05-03T04:14:48Z

I absolutely love this one. Very addictive. I wish there was more! The art was great. And even though you didn't make the music and sound effects, they were a very good selection for the mood. Thanks for making the game!

LD49 — Unstable

PTSD Fishing by KuKuRammus 2021-10-05T18:10:35Z

Good job! The PTSD is really fun (never thought I'd say that...). It feels really tense. My only critique is that I wish the fish would bite quicker or that there was some minigame involved to keep me engaged while I wait. Solid game in any case though. Thanks for making it!

EDIT: also music would be nice. Especially if it's really chill then turns super tense during the PTSD.

Red Flag (Le Temps des Tempêtes) by Achiru 2021-10-05T17:16:03Z

Good job! It took me a minute to figure out what I was doing, but it's good! I can only make it to 20/30, but want to keep trying. It's fun. Thanks for the game!

Haywire by Firebelley 2021-10-07T20:38:37Z

Is that a roasted chicken you turn into if you die? 😂 Fun game! Some of the later levels are a bit of a challenge, but a good challenge. Thanks for making it!

Thank you so much everyone for your positive and constructive feedback. To be honest, we almost didn't publish it. We felt very embarrassed of the game; it's nothing like we intended. I just wanted to sweep it under rug and forget about it. It was very hard not to give up multiple times during the project, for everyone involved. Your words mean a lot; they really do. Thank you.

Super Mutant Horse by cannashblue 2021-10-07T20:41:17Z

@pixelydian Our musician said he was going for a Mission Impossible mixed with Mario Kart vibe for the song. He did a great job!

Unstable Prey by R3dleg 2021-10-07T21:02:31Z

Very simple, yet very engaging. Keeps your attention. Thanks for making it!

Where's My Tripod? by Pixelydian 2021-10-05T17:09:54Z

Good job! A much more wholesome take on a hunting game. Very relaxing. Best I could do is a score of 160. Thank you for the game!

CORE by StudioRightside 2021-10-05T17:00:41Z

Good job! Very engaging. The graphics are gorgeous. The voiceover sounds good and works well. Thank you for the game!

Equilibrium by zSharpFire 2021-10-07T20:48:11Z

You should make this a mobile game! It's fun and addictive. Thanks for making it
