I love all the tiny sound effects you used; they work so well! I think my favorite is the ice sound.

stevenjmiller 2021-04-27 10:13

Very interesting game, I love the way the interactions fit together. There were multiple times were I'd be on a fire tile with an adjacent water tile and, while trying to navigate to the water to get the +4 instead of +3, accidently overwrite it with a rock or grass tile. These types of scenarios made the game extremely engaging and every move felt like it required careful planning. My best score (for now) was 61 (edit: made it to 76 now), but I feel like I could probably do better if I could get better at using the steam and stone blocks effectively. I also wanted to say that I really liked the way the text looks like it is carved into the board. I would like a way to immediately restart (unless there is one and I missed it) and/or a way to skip the tutorial sequence.

lossypi 2021-04-27 10:15

Probably my favourite out of nearly 30 games i've played atm. Thank you for such a fun and deep experience!

anaxie-studio 2021-04-27 12:16

Love the graphics and sounds! The simple, clean Itch page fits the page very well.

verygenuinecraze 2021-04-27 14:00

Impressive game. It has a very interesting gameplay and a systemic rules that juste feel right. Nothing to say except : Congratulations

zimny11 2021-04-27 15:03

I was screenshoot of this game somewhere in the comments, either on LD or on Discord, and was waiting, so I could try it out.

I only have only two words: Great Job!

u-tsang-clan 2021-04-27 15:35

The presentation is really nice. It looks a lot more polished than a lot of games (mine included). Though I feel at some cost to the clarity of the actual mechanics. I didn't get what the sidebar with the points until my second play (I still don't get the one on the other side), and even then the mud and sand are pretty similar even with color queues so I kept getting mixed how many points they were worth. The sidebar looks nice, but it is a little hard to use. I also had trouble remembering all the combinations since even though most of them do nothing there are 56 different pairs that can be made. Despite how critical this might come across, it is a fun game and it looks nice. I liked it.

superfishboy 2021-04-27 18:05

Feels really awsome! But I'm not getting what I'm suposed to do. Great work!

gibss 2021-04-27 20:06

Great puzzle game, my favorite so far. I wonder if showing the score go up after each tile falls down would be better rather than doing it at the very end. It might help reinforce the value of each tiles. This is a very minor point though, the execution is great!

cannashblue 2021-04-28 04:05

This is really good. It's very clever and attractive. Genuinely the best puzzle game I've played so far this jam. Thanks for making it!

wilsk 2021-04-28 07:07

This game looks and sounds fantastic, and I think there is a really deep mechanic behind it, although probably too deep for me at the end of a work day

There were some minor issues with the tutorial - on the first load nothing happened, it seemed to get stuck. I refreshed and There was a tutorial but as far as I could tell it just randomly progressed when it felt like it. I'd mash all the key and nothing would happen and then suddenly it jumped forwards 8 steps and I missed all the instructions.

Nice work!!

mrpouletbzh 2021-04-28 12:07

The game is really good looking, you did well with the sound design and the gameplay is nice, even if I felt that it was a bit cryptic in the first minutes, it's enjoyable to understand every interactions between the different tiles.

I think that the html version bug if you click outside of the game, it wouldn't recognize my inputs after, but I didn't get any problems of the sort with the windows version

Nice work!

dominikscholz 2021-04-28 13:15

Great puzzle game! The minimalistic artstyle is beautiful. At first I was a little bit overwhelmed by going from one tile to all possible ones. Think I would have preferred a slower increase in different tiles. Also a little problem is that you can get stuck (happened to me in the 4th round). All in all it is a great game that I'd totally recommend checking out. Good job!

eugenik 2021-04-28 13:56

Looks cool!.

gryffo 2021-04-28 16:28

The tetris of god games! I love the art direction and the level of polish, from little animations to sound effects. Great use of screen space too, keeping nearly all information available at once. Congrats!

herman-chau 2021-04-28 20:20

Awesome entry! I loved how the interactions fit together and there's interesting tension in moving a water tile over to extinguish a lava tile, but then using soil or grass tiles to cover the water back up. The metaphors and scoring made sense and I love the ambience and sound effects.

I managed to get to 76 but saw some commenters got to 86. Wow!

roikku 2021-04-28 20:27

My brain can't. But it's cool.

pestodesign 2021-04-28 21:34

I simply loved this one! Figuring out the relationship between the tiles is great! I will play again later for sure!

tjm 2021-04-29 00:04

The music and font are nice, but... I can't get it to do anything. It shows a "Welcome to Layers" message and an empty grid with no tiles; nothing responds to clicks, no keyboard buttons seem to do anything, and nothing changes if I wait. Am I missing something fundamental, or is it broken? Playing on Chrome.

hempuli 2021-04-29 00:19

Really sweet! The rules are quite complex but it was fun to figure them out and try to maximize my score. I found it quite hard to remember that only the bottom row is meaningful in terms of scoring. I really liked the way you used sound and little movements to really portray the pieces as physical objects!

iellswo 2021-04-29 00:43

Got 68 on my first playthrough. Really cool puzzle game that evolves as you play, starting off focused more on discovery and then evolving into mastery. Really cool ideas and with some quality of life improvements this game would make a great mobile game as is right now! Really great work!

(edit) No, seriously, put this on mobile, and I would play the hell out of this.

animatrix1490 2021-04-29 02:08

Really beautiful and clear design.

aaants 2021-04-29 09:44

I'll admit, a number of the interactions were lost on me for the first play or so but there's no doubt it's beautiful and well made. Nice work!

she-wrote 2021-04-29 15:46

I like the gameplay, it is so innovative.

cyanilux 2021-04-29 19:12

Really fun puzzle! Loving the visuals & sound effects too

stroe-andrew 2021-04-29 19:53

Ay Oh! I'm really in love with this entry brother... This "elemental" layers mechanism is really something I really like. Very very good and feel very innovative! In fact your game is maybe one of the fewest i voted a high level in innovation, haha! Congrats

The PixelArt is gorgeous, the sound effects are good. As @iellswo commented... put this baby on mobile! It has potential

jhax 2021-04-29 19:58

Took a little bit for me to figure it out but it was good fun once I'd managed to get my head around it.

The visuals are really neat and the sounds are brilliant!

cocapasteque 2021-04-29 20:01

Loved this entry, really clever puzzle game and the sounds/music are really relaxing, thank you for this game. I didn't quite understand how to play the game in the beginning but as you stated it is first an exploration game, when I understood how it worked, it was easier. Also I was not sure of my score, if I did good or bad at the end, maybe showing a bit more the results or in a more intuitive way would be nice.

rawb 2021-04-29 20:09

This game is really creative. Nice design and unique mechanic

thooom 2021-04-29 20:09

Very original game, a bit confusing rules. Loved the look of the game :)

okamit 2021-04-29 20:11

Took a while to figure out but very interesting mechanics! The graphics, style and sound design are amazing and feel like something from a commercial game.

Great puzzle game, I hope you continue working on it!

Great work!

thefoppian 2021-04-29 20:13

I really liked this one! The concept of hidden rules often doesn't work out, but it really adds to the sense of discovery here. Excellent job!

dhim 2021-04-29 20:32

Nice, but a longer tutorial, or a cheat sheet somewhere... edit: well I guess there is a comment on itch.io that kinda help. But a visual one as gorgeous as the rest of the art would go a long way to make the game truly awesome.

The fact that once you know the mechanic the game is a good puzzle is enough. The learning curve doesn't do much I think.

Congrats on the audio/graphical part its truly gorgeous. I'll bookmark it for future ref.

brian-mayberry 2021-04-29 20:43

Super unique little puzzler. Loved the graphics the audio, and the mood the whole package sets up. I for one enjoyed having to learn what each combo of moves might do, and not having it handed to me in the start guide. Great, great work here, congrats!

lucky-trident 2021-04-29 21:11

I really need to praise the UI, it's feels so nice, smooth and confortable ! And the art/design is amazing.

The tutorial at the beginning was a nice touch and reallize helps to understand the relationship between fire and grass. That said, it is sad the other relationships were not properly explained. I had trouble understanding water tiles and how they worked... I started to feel lost when you said "burry the relics below the best soil" because it wasn't obvious which was better. It's clear that fire is the worst possible layer to add. But what about the others ? Is stone better than sand ? Is hot sand better than normal sand ? Is grass better than mud ? Is grass better than stone ? I have no idea...

But I'm sure if I understood the rules better, I'd have a blast. The game looked hella fun, deep and polished ! Really impressive stuff !

kotzi 2021-04-29 22:15

Amazing game, it feels incredible to play! Congrats!

I would try to improve the tutorial to explain a bit more about the game, mainly the score system (maybe avoid going deeper with all the interactions but doing a few more rounds without all the tiles? I'm not really sure).

mog13 2021-04-29 22:53

Great puzzle game, Took a little bit of fiddling to pick up but I really like how unique this feels! Also the animations and polish were really nice, everything fit together really well. Great job, nicely done!

purplealien 2021-04-30 13:30

SUPER COOL minimalistic style, I love it! Also, great puzzle mechanic. Congratz!

derean 2021-05-02 20:16

Slick UI, very nice tutorial and very cool game overall. Definitely one of the best ones here. I also think the sense of discovery adds to the experience, the logical reactions between the different elements really helped to figure out the game. 10/10

hadesfury 2021-05-03 15:58

Awesome puzzle game .. It works very well and your UI design is neat

smbe19 2021-05-04 12:36

Interesting idea. I think the rules could be explained a bit better, it was quite confusing at the start.

evn 2021-05-05 04:47

I don't fully understand this but I love the vibe you've created.

notan-lemon 2021-05-08 08:44

This game is really beautiful! Strategy games are not my jam, but finding out the rules was actually fun. The sound design was also amazing, it prevented reasoning rules becoming just a guesswork and made it feel fair. I could have enjoyed it more if making moves didn't cost me anything, but that would make it a totally different type of game.

roofloorwall 2021-05-08 19:43

I love this game. The design is so elegant, it is the perfect example of how simple rules lead to interesting decisions. The best part is the experimentation, it never felt like the game was telling me how to play, I just moved tiles around and discovered new properties. Also the way you represent all these interactions with elements is brilliant, the first time I moved a water tile to a fire one and created stone, it felt so natural, Of course fire + water = rock!

bluishgreenpro 2021-05-13 14:35

Really neat puzzle. As I mentioned on stream, I'd love to see a mini-campaign where you can learn about the combinations through objective driven puzzles (perhaps on smaller boards) before tackling the primary game. Thanks again for submitting it to my stream!

felo07 2021-05-13 15:00

man I really enjoyed the mood of the game, the colors, minimalism, sound effects and music are amazing, also the graphics. But I couldnt understand what I had to do, maybe to add a tutorial would be great for stupid people like me! Or if you want to teach me here, I will try the game again! But it seems a very good game, congrats
