I Loved your sounddesign and the music, but I didn't understand the gameplay.

foursay 2021-10-04 15:07

@erikengineengineer Thank you for your playing! You might want to check the instructions above: You need to hold (not click) your Left Mouse Button to breath in, and release to breath out. The fixed tempo is 2 secs, which is exactly the same tempo for the clock clicking background. I need to make this more obvious since lots of player like you are confused for this gameplay. Thank you for your playing and I do hope you can play it again with this instructions!

foursay 2021-10-04 15:20

@erikengineengineer And yes, I might do some late post-jam modifications. Thank you for your feedback!

elveverx 2021-10-05 02:38

This was incredible the level of detail and polish on a jam let alone a comp game was incredible, it felt like a neat little package! I especially enjoyed how it started off with normal casual bed time thoughts and then got more frantic and let the self hate creep in, I really enjoyed the experience but wouldn't recommend it before bed! :P

ivysly 2021-10-05 02:45

Oh my god! this is so good! what!!! you blew me away. bravo man. out of all the games i've played so far, this one surprised me like no other. good work

banksho 2021-10-05 03:46

Wow!! This was amazing! I was having a pretty decent time already at the beginning, and then that next scene kicked in and completely shocked me. The music, text and art all together really made that great. This game was extremely well made!

ashley-gb 2021-10-05 03:54

It's wild to think that this was made by a solo dev over a couple days, but I think it's really well-executed. Great job!

wang-tianliang 2021-10-05 03:57

牛啊,音效和画面都绝了,但最后一关我没搞明白怎么过,玩的很懵逼😂

foursay 2021-10-05 04:00

@elveverx Thanks! Absolutely don't play this before bed  @banksho @ivysly Thank you for liking this game! @ashley-gb Thank you! I spent most energy on the audio parts, which took me like nearly a whole day, and I spent the rest designing the show. I seldomly sleep (which suits this game, Insomnia) in the 2 days and guess it's paying off XD

rayredd 2021-10-05 04:37

Very dark! But a very beautiful art style. Good job!

vsi 2021-10-05 05:05

The game idea is very fascinating, I liked it, the Musik pays a lot of effort,gj!

shade2810 2021-10-05 05:26

I find this game really fascinating and intriguing to play. Definitely differs from the norm and quirky in terms of mechanics at the same time. But hey! Jams are perfect to explore those quirky yet fun ideas so props for that. I also love the audio set. So kudos all around! :)

polymathld 2021-10-05 09:53

This is incredibly artistic and easy to relate to. I love it. The tying of figurative gameplay elements in with conceptual, emotional concepts is a really powerful thing you rarely see outside of indie developers and you did it really well here. The soundscape in particular is incredible, but the imagery is great too. Thanks for the poignant experience!

purpledartfrog 2021-10-05 10:39

@foursay I couldn't quite find the WebGL build? Am I looking in the wrong place?

:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:

xwilarg 2021-10-05 13:10

The music, gameplay and visual effects went very well together and gave a very good experience!

aplegatt 2021-10-05 14:45

That was an interesting experience. I liked music. Unfortunately I got consumed by negative thoughts and lost any ability to sleep again :(

bootak 2021-10-05 17:53

Ho. Ly. Hell. That was. Quite an experience. From calm and peaceful to. Well, nightmar-ish and destructive. I couldn't avoiding "bad thoughts" and keeping my breath at the same time, that seemed to be impossible, so I got the "bad" ending. I wonder if there is a good one. However, I enjoyed your game, its beautiful.

shmador 2021-10-05 17:53

Very nice game, you accomplished the atmosphere beautifully with the sound. Now i'll never stop thinking "are all ghosts naked?" before sleep

parttimeindie 2021-10-05 18:06

That was really cool and relaxing

mrbell270 2021-10-05 18:38

Great experience, very coherent work. I loved music and clicking syncing/ Even my breath changed to the rhythm.

Controls arrows+space or wasd+mouse would be more natural IMO. And maybe sound should start before gameplay to immerse player faster.

Wonderful game that attracts attention to horrible problems. Thank you for this!

thomas-boeglin 2021-10-05 20:02

Woaw ! Such a great game ! The mood is incredible and it tells a very valuable message. The game is innovative, it seems weird at first but it works surprisingly very well in the end :). Congrats !

happ 2021-10-05 20:39

Very innovative idea and superb audio! Great experience before I am actually going to sleep :D

jayjack 2021-10-05 21:39

The music and sounds were incredible! I hope one day I am half as good. I also loved the experience and the message, especially since I struggled with both insomnia and hypersomnia for a long time when I was younger. Thank you for this incredible experience!

foursay 2021-10-05 23:14

@rayredd @vsi @xwilarg Thank you! @shade2810 Exactly! That's one of the reasons I love Ludum Dare and other game jams. You can experiment with whatever your want, and that feels awesome ;P @polymathld Thank you for liking this game! @purpledartfrog I upload the HTML link at first, but it can not play in the browser. Guess the audio files are larger than I thought... @aplegatt Sadly, that's how Insomnia is. But anyway, thanks for playing! @bootak I don't anyone can reach a happy ending there because that's how Insomnia is, which makes me sad as well. Thank you for enjoying this game! @shmador Somehow, this question matters... I can't sleep now, @parttimeindie Hope you are relaxed... Other than in the last scene @mrbell270, the instruction for control is designed deliberately to make players feel cringe at first and unable to deal with the movement initially. I hope that's not too annoying but create the atmosphere of "Insomnia." @thomas-boeglin Thank you for liking the audio! @happ Wish you a good sleep then! @jayjack I hope you are well nowadays and wish you good health! Glad to see you get the message

kbf123 2021-10-06 00:34

That... was actually really cool! I like how it played like a rhythm game in the first part.

And the ending was certainly something.

arken 2021-10-06 05:49

So awesome! I'd like the audio and game design. Actually I can't sleep well too. This game vividly displays what I'm thinking and what I'm trying when lose my sleep.

pixel-error 2021-10-06 20:02

So that's what happens in our brains when we try to fall asleep. I didn't excepted rhythm element, but i got it quickly and it was fun. So far this game fits a lot in theme! Nice!

kekkodude 2021-10-07 00:40

Hm, i thought i was in for a pleasant ride of relaxing breathing practice, and to some degree it was, but then... well you know. This hit a strange spot for me i got to say. Loved it! and hated it at the same time, sadly i can relate.

I'm left a little speechless, just got to say, great job, loved the music and the atmosphere, even though, yeah like someone said, not a bedtime game.

Fun side note, towards the end as i was botching the breathing rhythm a thought struck me, Hm, what's WASD going to be used for? and then it hit me haha.

foxtrot-roger 2021-10-07 18:46

You've created a very nice atmosphere here, well done! I'm a bit confused tho, you've entered the compo but didn't make the sounds during the 48h period?

nahuelito 2021-10-07 18:48

Great sound design!

foursay 2021-10-07 18:59

@kbf123 Thank you for liking the ending! @pixel-error @arken That's the point I try to make this game. Thanks! @kekkodude, you can control the player with WSAD, but I prefer to let players use arrows keys to move. It is the weird control that it gives players the feeling of anxiety @foxtrot-roger So I did make all the sounds and music assets in 48 hours. In fact, that's where the majority of time goes. I collected sample assets with my personal library and freesound.org and manipulated them in my DAW. I also made the music within the same DAW and have it arranged. At first, I tried to use Wwise integration for Wwise to Unity, but that turned out sucks, so I gave that up. @nahuelito Thank you for appreciate the audio!

foxtrot-roger 2021-10-07 19:05

@foursay I see, that wasn't clear from the description ^^, thanks for clarifying that :-)

zimny11 2021-10-09 23:20

Well done with the music and sound effects design! That was an interesting experience.

blue-pin-studio 2021-10-10 03:05

Very nice submission! I actually had a lot of fun playing it, surprisngly. I guess the part at the end is impossible to survive? I don't really have any feedback, this type of concept could be cool in a more bombastic action style too, timing shots or explosions with the breathing :)

junjunlowpoly 2021-10-10 04:39

气氛营造得超棒!失眠的感觉非常还原,让我想起很多夜晚的痛苦记忆。 最后要一边掌握呼吸节奏一边躲避负面想法的关卡好难,失败的绝望感也超级真实。

coleslaughter 2021-10-10 23:59

[Thanks for submitting your game to stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1171489560?t=04h05m54s)

This game was an absolute treat. Any game that is able to convey a narrative or emotion through mechanics instantly wins my heart, and the wonderful visuals and audio are just the cherry on top. Wonderful job!

matias-correa 2021-10-20 04:33

nice game, great audio! I had to see where it ended, but I already imagined it would be impossible to sleep! Nice to have directional controls too on second part. good job!
