got to day 48, played twice, not sure how or if you can go further.

very visually appealing game, although i don't think the low poly life boat matches the style.

overall i liked it, my main gripe is that you use crashing wave sounds, but those are for beaches.

kingofspill 2022-04-05 14:40

This game has a very strong mood that carries throughout. Something about the pixelated shader gave the whole thing the look of stepping into MYST for me. I appreciate the little touches like the bottles rolling back and forth on the bottom of the boat and the lighting changing as the day passes.

Ended up making it 52 days on my second go. When I saw the plane and the flare didn't work my hopes were dashed.

Very well polished! I enjoyed it.

PS, I Love Crabulon. crabulon.png

The visuals are very pretty, however there's not much to do to actually "delay the inevitable". Interactible elements don't seem to have any practical effect. As said in the description, the sights are really all you have left.

legolula 2022-04-05 21:40

This might be my favorite entry so far. The low res works great, the mood and story hits hard, its a smart take on the theme, congrats!

jamieok 2022-04-05 21:45

@kingofspill I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Watching the bottles roll side to side was one of my favourite parts of testing the game :) PS, Crabulon loves you too.

jamieok 2022-04-05 21:46

@legolula Awesome! Really happy you liked it, and I hope you're enjoying the jam :)

bananaguybob 2022-04-05 21:47

I love crabulon

magic-mike 2022-04-05 21:49

The game is crazy beautifull, it works incredibly well, with the mood and i think the theme. Although you could push a bit the interactivy with items, i liked the almost no UI choice. Great entry and experience

aflatthrasher 2022-04-05 21:53

I'm curious how far you could actually survive, best case scenario, given the supplies. I made it to day 50, but I'm curious how much further you could go. I can't imagine it's far.

An interesting game. There's not a TON of "game" outside of just seeing what happens, but there is just enough resource management to make you actually put some effort in. The art was very pretty. Very good take on the theme.

escarpoulpe 2022-04-05 21:56

So cool i love it

sagiii 2022-04-05 21:58

Hello! I liked your game so much. The idea is so great. I hope you will upgrade some things like maybe the sharks and whale silhouette. Great job.

raphaeltan 2022-04-05 21:58

Really freakin cool. Procedural story is amazing, the graphics are on point, everything is great. good job Jamie

ciderpunk 2022-04-05 21:58

literally dripping in atmosphere, the pixelly 3d is awesome. it told me I survived after 49 days both times i played through? it didn't feel like it...

nikolavuk 2022-04-05 22:00

I think that pixelated screen gave the game a really unique look. But I also think that the low poly boat could have been smooth shaded since everything else is smooth shaded in the game. Gameplay-wise I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't really any survival mechanic so you can survive longer, but the mood of the game is really top notch. My mouth is dry.

jamieok 2022-04-05 22:07

@aflatthrasher Thanks for the feedback! I'm sure I could work out the maximum amount of days as there is only a fixed amount of water that can be found. However the game is less about surviving and more, as you said, 'seeing what happens'. There definitely could be more gameplay but as I usually fixate on gameplay during Jams, I wanted to challenge myself to focus more on the visuals of a project this time round and unfortunately the gameplay was lacking because of that.

@nikolavuk I appreciate the comment :) if I work on this project further I'll definitely adjust the boat, as another comment mentioned it being out-of-place with the rest of the assets.

mooptychunk 2022-04-05 22:09

Love the look of everything in this. Great interpretation of the theme and great entry!

2022-04-05 22:35

Great little experience. I reached day fifty-something. I liked the variety of events. I wish the days lasted a bit longer.

klumaster 2022-04-05 22:37

The game looks great and has a good vibe, but I feel there was too little feedback to understand what actions were doing - on one fade it said my mouth was dry, so I drank water, the next fade it said it was more dry. I starved to death with food rations in the boat, just after a meal.

tieran 2022-04-06 17:53

Cool game, I love the pixel shader look. I need to learn how to do that myself!

Although the game runs well it was using 98-100% of my RTX 3090, so something seems off there. I only survived 52 on my first go. I kinda was hoping the plane would see my flare but it just flew straight past it. I think an improvement would be to give the player some more feedback to how hungry or dehydrated, even some as simple blurred vision or something.

Overall great game!

tygrak 2022-04-08 13:04

Very cool game! Love the look of it, it has a great aesthetic. It felt like I survived much longer than I would have expected after I ran out of rations. It might have been just me muting the game somehow but I think the ambient sound effects stopped after some time? It would have also been cool to make the player actually move slower as they got hungrier and thirstier.

Great job making the game! :)

ranj 2022-04-09 05:10

Very atmospheric game. It was an unusual experience, the game conveys all the hopelessness of the situation. An interesting solution was to pixelate the graphics, and it looks quite interesting and realistic, I don’t even know why. I don't even know how to improve the project, very good work. I wish you good luck with your future development :)

kudneus 2022-04-09 14:40

Very good effort was put into this game, i like the art style, the idea of the game is incredible! very nice!

alex-xing 2022-04-09 14:54

Nice work on the shader! The calm sounds of the waves combined with the endless stretch of the ocean really invokes a feeling of dread. The shader adds to the mood. The rations were a nice touch, once they ran out I knew I was going to starve. Well done!

korvack 2022-04-09 15:06

I would have liked to have more possibility of interactions (use empty bottles to recover water when it rains for example, or try to repair an air leak on the raft for example) But the atmosphere is very engaging and art is really original. Good work! Thank you for this experience =)

ludumdaredevil 2022-04-09 16:57

The graphics were breathtaking! I would have liked some kind of crosshair. Also I somehow fell out of the raft and fell into the abyss.

jamieok 2022-04-09 18:16

@ludumdaredevil That is impressive, chalk that one up to me being lazy and not fool-proofing the collision around the raft. I'd like to work on a post-Ludum Dare version 2 of this and a small crosshair would definitely be on the list of things to add. Thanks for playing :)

tigerj 2022-04-10 00:57

This is one hell of an experience! Thanks for bringing it by the stream! Highlight: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1451440143?t=00h09m14s

chocolat-endive 2022-04-10 14:19

I survived 50 days! I'm quite impressed by the graphic polish you made in this game: the models, the water shaders, the sky, the water, and the forced low resolution works really well together.

Some little things: when the box is open, the next day we can click to "open the box" (and it closes it). Also, after a ~~whale~~ while, I felt like nothing else was going to happen, so I just waited for the end. Days are are little short, and I feel that it breaks the slow pace of the game. As other said, more interactions could have been great.

Overall, that's a nice little narrative game, and the little crabs are super cute.

acearcher 2022-04-12 21:02

Made it 51 days! Quiet and introspective, I really liked that there wasn't any backing music. Loved the crabs, although for me one of them was inside the boat's geometry and I could only see its name. It was a bit hard for me to interact with things, I think some manner of reticle or even just a little dot in the center would've really helped show what the cursor was over. I also agree that more interactions would be nice, especially with the rain. Overall, "fun" is probably the wrong word for a game about slowly dying alone and desperate, but it certainly was engrossing and worth a play!

minaus 2022-04-16 15:53

Really liked it, especially the graphics and the day and night cycle. It could be great to feel a little more our character slowly getting weaker. Maybe we could be slower to move, small addition that can add a huge amount of immersion I think. Also for some reason around day 35 i could not hear any sounds.

beefbone 2022-04-16 15:53

Cool style and visually pleasing. Wish there was slightly more things to interact with or some more dynamic storytelling. Well polished tho and feels like a whole completed game.
