LD46 — Keep it alive

The Storm by NvrSkipGameDay 2020-04-21T18:41:55Z

Loved the look and intuitive game-play of this title. I agree that I found little reason to release shift the entire time - why walk when you can run. But I guess that's the case of near every videogame with a "walk" option. I can only imagine the headache of making one of these games on your own...congratz!

Do you have any link to what you did get done of the song?

Conservation Inc. by Sharks 2020-04-21T18:33:38Z

Great and fun concept but it may be a bit too complicated to be developed in only 72 hours.

Dungeon Farmer by TheQiwiBoy 2020-04-21T18:28:18Z

Game won't work...

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

PRO TAX SLACKER by pcmaster 2022-04-11T18:56:19Z

Given the theme I assumed there'd be a whole lot of "death and taxes" games but this is the first I've come across.

A very charming and funny puzzle game. The graphics, sound, music, and gameplay are a lot of fun. If being developed further, it's easy to image a rouge-like generation with each of the "time" that are simple interactions being turned into their own little mini-games. Overall, great job!

Hold Time by Local Minimum 2022-04-15T14:39:43Z

Played it on a keyboard. I couldn't quite grasp **why** I wanted to break the clocks but it was a fun little minigame in within the larger platformer. It was quite difficult and (when not being able to see what was ahead) that difficulty seemed slightly unfair. Overall though it was not game-breakingly difficult just frustrating, which is what was aimed for!

Overall, this was an interesting innovation and a daring entry that appears to have worked well for the goals it set for itself. Good job!

Bomb Shift by klianc09 2022-04-13T20:20:16Z

A deceptively straight forward game that takes a number of plays to get what's going on...and I never quite figured it out. The graphics, while not explosive, work for the style while some audio would really kick it up notch.

HutHut by Mr_Field 2022-04-13T19:22:52Z

This game looks and plays very well. The graphics reminded me of a childhood playing SimCity late into the night. Music fits perfectly. Had a few issues with the game crashing but, still, overall very well done!

Run Do by nervous-composers 2022-04-13T20:27:19Z

Cool look to this game but....what is the goal? There is a note that the audio may stutter but I couldn't get any audio to play.

Sheep Heard by ChrisAntem 2022-04-14T18:32:31Z

Very clever gameplay that took a lot to get used too but is very fun. The graphics, music, and sound are all very well designed (or selected) and make the game pretty immersive. As noted above, the balance feels a little off and there were times when the wolves just wouldn't stop their headlong charge into the sheep even though the dog was extremely close by.

Overall, very fun game!

Don't save the planet by winniehell 2022-04-14T19:29:21Z

Are we currently on the trial version of Earth?...is it worth getting the full version?

The design is straight forward but still fun. The little details are very fun: the changing beverage type, the changing alien name, and the three different scenarios all tickled my fancy. I'm willing to chalk this up to using trackpoint or just being bad at these kind of games, but the difficulty really did ramp up quick. On all three difficulties I got to about the same level of rescued people before losing.

Overall, solid game!

Evacuation of Zorkid by SIGILL 2022-04-09T20:43:31Z

As an apocalypse builder sim, the game is ambitious and fits the theme very well. Although the learning curve is a bit steeper than most LD50 games, once you figure it out it all plays quite nicely.

The lack of sound kills the mood and the pace is touch too fast, but that may just be my minimal math skills talking.

Eldritch Crossing by _for_science 2022-04-10T05:48:03Z

Extremely well done. The style, quality of graphics, responsive controls, and the audio. Would suggest putting in the ability to invert X/Y axis to accommodate us with "goofy stance"

Abysmall by Wakobu 2022-04-15T14:49:48Z

Noticed a glitch - if I set up isles shelves, loaded them with items, and then reset the items would still be picked up by the shoppers who walked past the empty space.

Game was very fun. Was great watching a guy go in to buy toilet paper, get frustrated, run towards the register to leave, and pick up a porno mag on his way out. The music, graphics, and ui are all very well designed. Maybe I play too many of these kinds of games, but the difficulty is a little low with the AI being a bit too predictable. This is a relatively small complaint given the limited time of a Jam.

Off with the show! by edwigelel 2022-04-13T19:55:06Z

The graphics and premise of this game are solid. Like everyone else, I also struggled with the "combine with" option. At points, I'm pretty sure I got it to work, but then at other times I felt like I was clicking around wildly. The music and humor of the combinations (that I got to work) were pretty funny and made me want to play multiple times to uncover additional things.

Overall, great job!

Inferno Fox by jkniest 2022-04-20T18:09:17Z

Really enjoyed the calming music, smooth animations, and fun take on the infinite platformer. I got a kick out of jetpack fox which game me some real StarFox vibes. Issues other's have mentioned: Like @trev3lyan, had some issues where my fox would jump up when landing slightly below the platform and, like @suchista and @autogibbon, there were many times the fox appeared to make it to a platform yet fell through. Overall, I had a good time with this game in spite of the faults which you just have to learn around.

The Journey of the HMS Theseus by Tad 2022-04-13T20:39:17Z

A straight forward game that worked well a "figure it out as you go" play. I really enjoyed the use of posers and logos to patch up holes. The music worked well along with the sound effects. The simple graphics added to the charm along with everything being activated by a hammer. Overall, great job!

Age of Chips by MaiMai 2022-04-20T18:19:17Z

Played Jam browser version on Opera:

As one of the original Command and Conquer fans, seeing someone just attempt an RTS in a two day Jam is impressive. The artwork, smooth play, and intuitive controls are well implemented and point towards great potential. Although, as mentioned, the start is pretty slow and the lack of audio really limits mood/emersion. I see there are updates which address these issues - I hope this project takes you far!

Send Nukes by MrSchlag2 2022-04-09T21:11:13Z

Nuclear holocaust has never been so fun. Although its chaotic in nature the learning curve is exceptionally shallow. The art and graphics were killer - the newspaper/typewriter style was spot-on.

Not a valid complaint given the time crunch, but a greater variety of mini games would have been nice and I just could not figure out what the "Mushroom" one was.

Brain Burgers by joni-jarvinen 2022-04-18T17:42:13Z

I had assumed this would be very straight forward when I began playing and had a bad time. After reading the instructions the game is pretty fun! The whole process has a surprising number of steps but once you get into the swing of things the balance of preparing, fixing, and attacking is entertaining.

Had a bug early on where my character started fixing a machine, got caught in a fix loop, and just continued fixing the machine until I reset

image_2022-04-18_133957609.png

LightQuest by Tempii 2022-04-18T17:31:02Z

The game has charm and the concept has a lot of potential. I couldn't quite get to the end because of the controls but the concept did give me the **desire** to get to the end.

Not much I can really add that @antti-haavikko hasn't articulated better.

The Lute & The Liar by ConnorThompson 2022-04-11T20:03:07Z

Incredible art, mood, and concept! Loved the combination of keystroke and platformer.

My issues with the game's difficult are about the same as everyone else. I tried for awhile but I could never get the hang of the timing and it being disjointed from the sound of the music messed with my ability to get into any kind of pattern. I understand the extreme amount of work that would have to go into making a random generated music play long without it sounding like garbage so consider this a very slight complaint.

Overall, this game is a great!

Icecream Runner by ChickenChaser 2022-04-18T20:25:58Z

Played HTML on Opera Fun idea, good graphics, engaging mood but not enough gameplay. The ingredients for something great are here but they just haven't had enough time to gather together - a pretty common issues with a Jam. A great effort!

The Oscar Slapdown by n00b 2022-04-20T20:13:26Z

Very funny and that's enough!

Delaying Death by gabbeeder 2022-04-09T17:07:08Z

Very good entry! The graphics were a charming pixel art that really built the world. I liked the dark lighting with the sound and music being alright. The gameplay worked smoothly and involved strategy over luck.

Though the gameplay was well developed, it became a bit repetitive. A greater variety of enemy would have been a huge upgrade. I only got to wave 5 so there may have been more variety after that which I missed. I often had a lot of issues getting the shotgun to fire but... since none of the comments have mentioned it I'm willing to put this on my ineptitude. It was also unclear what boarding up windows really did beyond delaying the start of the game but I didn't do a lot of experiments on this.

Nap Time by Pizzasgood 2022-04-18T18:10:38Z

Excellent little game. The music was a lot of fun and fit with the mood perfectly. Also enjoyed the increasing difficulty with the disintegrating furniture and, though it has been said above, I got a real kick out of the chandelier. The little details really made this game: the mother's disheveled look, her outstretched arms, the little sound effects. Very well done

Denuke by JimmyC 2022-04-15T15:34:19Z

Straight forward and cute vision of our shared dystopian near-future!

The graphics are great, the start of the game was inspired, and the music was super on point. Though simple, the variety of approaching objects to deflect kept the game interesting longer than expected. All that said, the game is what it is - you either like how it work or you don't: there's little to seriously suggest in terms of growing the game. That's a rather **tame** critique of a very good Jam game!

Train Wrecked by darkmonkey inc 2022-04-13T19:20:46Z

This game was solid and fit the theme super well. As mentioned above, the mouse-only controls made it pretty difficult to do precise placement. Maybe that was the point? But it made it significantly more difficult to learn at the beginning. After this curve though the game was a lot of fun!

Crisis Chef: 28 Plates Later by simba 2022-04-09T17:21:53Z

Very well designed and executed with great artwork, amazing game loop innovation, and smooth gameplay. Pretty funny stuff

The only suggestions are only implementable if you had more time, nothing BIG: -Variety of weapons, food, tower defense placement -A mechanic to fix windows -The gun firing and aiming was a bit wonky. This may be an issue with my mouse though as nobody else seems to have had it

Great job

Down The Rabbit Hole by KingOfNova 2022-04-18T17:36:23Z

The graphics were a really cool idea but I don't know that they worked well with the mouse controls as I quickly lost sight of my mouse as I played. As mentioned many times above, the start is the most difficult part. Consider adding a runway so the player can get their bearing before obstacles hurdle toward them. I know this is an issue of the compressed development time, but it would also be useful to have a longer tunnel so the player might anticipate the items sooner. In a further development this tunnel, while longer, might have curves in it which throw off the players perception and make some decisions come through very quick. Overall, there is a lot of promise here!

Salvos by magus77 2022-04-11T19:25:43Z

Played the web version:

The breadth of the game is quite impressive for a 3 day Jam. The graphics reminded me of Illusion of Gaia, a real nostalgia trip. The sound, the music, and (for the most part) the mechanics were all pretty smooth even if they took a few deaths to figure out. I agree with the comments that noted that a tutorial might have gone a long to move this game from "overwhelming" to "expansive."

Overall, great job!

Trash Simulator 3000 by Esben Jensen 2022-04-18T18:19:26Z

Played HTML5 on Opera: Tried as I might, I couldn't figure out how to pick up trash other than running over the cans and bags. I enjoyed and admired tackling the physics of a driving game by yourself in 48 hours. The sounds, the concept, and graphics were fun and polished enough for a Jam. I agree with @ildenh that a lose condition would have provided consequence, incentive to move faster, and would have fit the theme even better. Overall, good times.

Not Af-RAID by JM Studio 2022-04-09T21:00:24Z

Very polished effort. The graphics are great, the music and sound effects are incredible, and, although the mood is very dark, the over-the-top approach comes off pretty funny with the kinda-cute graphics. Great game!

Click to Continue by Daniel Foutz 2022-04-14T18:38:44Z

Nothing I can add here that hasn't already been said...worth the time!

Foster The Beeples by Deylinia 2022-04-10T06:01:40Z

Very nice game. Graphics work well with the genre, music is super smooth, and the gameplay is simple but addictive. Unless I misunderstood the mechanics, there is no penalty for spamming "play" and it was difficult to see the incentive for spending anything on room upgrades since, with the room meter full or empty, the pet seemed to live just as easily.

Overall though, great job!

Delayarrhea by BearDing8 2022-04-11T20:29:18Z

A deceptively fun puzzle game dressed up as a silly game about defecating in your pants. Liked the graphics and the level design was challenging without being too difficult. The sound was a little lacking with missed opportunities for a whole assortment of fart noises.

Overall, this was a great game for the whole family.

Running Out of Time by Arthur Mairs 2022-04-11T17:36:38Z

Played on the Web version:

Extremely ambitious concept for a Game Jam. The random street people voice lines and the kick to the coin purse when caught in the warehouse made me laugh - very nice touches. The stealth genre in not one I'm very good at and it's barebones approach here (which I fault more to the limited time of a Jam) made it very hard for me to get through. The suggestion for a minimap would have been a huge upgrade.

Overall, I had a lot of fun with this game and was very impressed with the amount of work and attention that was put into this Jam. Great job!

Escaping Precedent by DecrementedPalindrome 2022-04-20T17:53:04Z

The mechanic and concept is **very** cool even though I couldn't quite get the hang of it. I feel like I was getting better as I went along so chalk that up to a learning curve. Music is well selected and the whole project, over, works quite well! Not so certain that it fits with the theme...Great job!

save me by Kisilin 2022-04-14T23:27:32Z

Although you didn't make them, the music was special and did a lot to set the mood of the game. The artwork and narrative were handled in a beautiful "less is more" approach that worked in tandem with the straight forward game mechanics.

Though others here have said it, the gameplay was perhaps **too** straight forward. There wasn't much ado about strategy it was just about how long you could move the blue into a corner until you gave up. That might describe a lot of games this Jam and the music and artwork does make this one stand above MANY others.

Overall, a solid game!

Tsunami by GameDevTraum 2022-04-11T19:15:56Z

Very cute graphics all around with a lot of care put into the design. I quick "reset" button would have been a great add - it made me bummed out to have to wait for the dude to drown each time.

Overall, great job!

Stranded by TheGamer 2022-04-11T20:45:28Z

The art is a lot of fun and the gameplay is very smooth. The overall concept is straight forward and plays quite well.

I had to turn off the sound because the laser reminded me too much of a dentists drill.

Overall, good job

Cope till Dawn by edgeboyo 2022-04-11T19:55:30Z

Very well done artwork and concept. The sound, whether created or found, fit really well with the game.

The lack of a UI including time, health, etc. would have been a big help in understanding the whole objective. I gathered staying alive was the central point but couldn't understand why I would explore rather than bunker down.

Overall, a fun game

TAB-BOT by Constantine Pallas 2022-04-13T20:11:00Z

Fun concept, but like other reviews, I had crash issues attempting to play the piano minigame in HTML. The graphics are charming but the novelty runs out fast...unless I'm missing something...

Edit: Turns out I was! Finally clicked on the speech bubble. TAB-BOT certainly did make me laugh with a meta-humor that reminded me of Undertale.

Princess: Unwed by saintchristopher777 2022-04-15T16:02:23Z

i was pretty surprised by how engrossing this game was. The text based gameplay was very well put together and offered enough variety and misdirection to keep it all interesting. I, like some other commenters, was a bit overwhelmed at first by the sheer amount of information that is thrown your way at the beginning. Perhaps a **little** tutorial would have been a big help just to get your bearings. For instance, I didn't see all the paper at the bottom until I had already sent out a couple letters...but that's also my fault for just jumping in and not getting fully familiar.

A quick note that the graphics, music, and sound while rather simple fit extremely well with the "princess" theme. It'd be easy to see this with polish going from charming to a beautiful homage (or parody given the premise) of the cultural juggernaut that is Disney.

This game has a lot of possibility in terms of further world building and affixing more mechanics onto a solid framework of a game.

Deity of Jigsaw Puzzle by BigFantasyTree 2022-04-11T20:12:07Z

Like many of the comments here, it took me awhile to figure out how to get going. After a number of deaths I happen to start with pieces that fit together and worked from there. Getting the core mechanic started appears to depend a lot on chance. With more time it'd be great if code could be developed to ensure a fighting chance at the beginning.

All the same, I really enjoined the innovation and huge amount of work that clearly went into making it functional.

Say Something by Andreia 2022-04-11T19:05:02Z

Very cool graphics and a sweet take on the theme and the platformer genre. The difficulty level is a bit low and it'd be great if there were more "levels" but this criticism (not enough of a good thing) are about the best and most common critiques on these Jams.

Last Point by Itooh 2022-04-15T16:29:21Z

Really taken off guard for this one even though it fits the theme **perfectly**

I'm a very big fan of narrative driven games yet the difficulty in designing them is finding the balance between story, agency, and mechanics. In this game there is **no** agency, there are almost **no** mechanics, and there is only story. And the story is told through beautiful artwork, a haunting ambient soundtrack, sparse gameplay, alienating exploration, and a heartbreaking narrative that unfolds through all of the above. I wish this story could be fleshed out with more agency and more game mechanics but something could be lost in the story if it were. As it is, it plays beautifully and ends tragically. Great job

Gladiatorus by Pepper Boi 2022-04-13T19:42:51Z

The stabbing mechanic and graphics felt very responsive and fun. Maybe I'm just outing myself as being terrible at this game, but I had a really hard to getting beyond the first handful of levels without boring my fans. Maybe that timer needs to be tweaked...or I need to get better at the game

The graphics were a lot of fun. The use of multiple colors to designate the behavior or enemies was a nice touch and kept the game interesting as it progressed. As mentioned above, I couldn't get all that far so I don't know how deep the enemy rosters went. The blood participles worked perfectly with the satisfaction of the stabbing mechanic.

The sound could use a bit of work: it felt underdeveloped compared to the rest of the gameplay. Overall the game is great!

D-Lay Guetta Party Hard by Turtle Games 2022-04-13T19:29:16Z

This finally answers the age old question of what a DJ actually does that a shuffle button cannot do on its own. The graphics, sound, and humor are all spot on. Loved the character designs and the sound of the DJ getting pummeled by the fun police was a great touch. I had some issues with getting the party people to move, even when slapping them, which made progress difficult when the fun police were giving me a beatdown. Would also like to note that the tutorial at the beginning was a big quality of life addition. Overall, great job

Lockdown by Squerf 2022-04-20T17:58:28Z

Really enjoyed the built in difficulty curve with the background becoming cluttered with zombie gore. The core mechanic is also unique, infuriating, and enlightened all at once. It reminds me of an old Dos game I would have played as a kid. Although it seems to be a divisive point, I liked the sound effects and though they fit the overall feel of the game. Overall, great job!

Color Entropy by knexator 2022-04-18T18:23:47Z

Pretty neat little game that takes on the theme in a unique way. The music and graphics fit together in a satisfying way. Like the developer says in the description though, there is very little incentive to keep playing the game once you figure out the limits of the possibilities. The concept might be further developed into a more sophisticated puzzle game outside the confides of the Jam theme. Good job

Bitboy by Proxy-Games 2022-04-09T18:47:14Z

Very well developed simple narrative that injects a sense of urgency to a pretty straight forward design. Great job! Only suggestion is one that can go on almost all GameJams: Could use a few more variety for obstacles and settings.

The Final Clue by mirianbr 2022-04-14T23:19:18Z

I'm going to repeat the point made by everyone so far: this game features the core contradiction of being text heavy which rewards **not** reading the text and just clicking on to advance the story. Rather than be real-time it might have been better suited to a time-is-resource style so that decisions affect time. This might be paired with a few real-time events so that the anxiety of the game is kept in tact.

Overall, this was a daring experiment that shows a lot of promise with a bit of polish...which is what a Jam is all about!

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-10T05:33:28Z

Artwork, humor, and digs at late stage capitalism all top shelf. Lining up shots was very satisfying. With more time, might have done more with the upgrades or added temporary upgrades on the field to incentivize risky actions or greater resource management.

Corrupted Runtime by HideyBoi Dev 2022-04-13T20:43:39Z

The graphics, the bodily explosion of the player when taking damage, and the sound really sell the mood of this game. As has been mentioned, the level design is not intuitive and seems to require that the player knows everything coming up in order to be successful. More focus on developing levels that ease the player into the gameplay could go a long was to making this entry into something with broader appeal. Overall, great job!

Lucidity by LagMeester4000 2022-04-13T19:34:16Z

This game has some very well done and fitting graphics and I really liked the beginning animation of diving into the character's dreams. The concept overall was very well executed. I had some issues figuring out how the health system worked exactly, but I figured out pretty fast to just avoid getting hit and hit the baddies! I had issues getting the "grab" ability to work consistently and it took a minute to figure out it only worked on certain enemies. Overall though, I had a good time

Let's Do Alien Taxes! by BurnsDesigns 2022-04-13T14:29:53Z

Very funny and fun! I took my time reading through everything so the music (which is great) stopped looping, but other than that it was a real solid entry. It deserves that coveted criticism: what is here is amazing, it just needs more. Great work

Sauce of Life by Haoyun Zhang 2022-04-18T20:11:35Z

The comic-chaos of this game is very well developed with dramatic music, fun mechanics, a depressing topic, and the inevitable decline of life. As mentioned by others, it is not immediately intuitive but it is easy enough to figure out in repetitive plays. Really liked the artistic approach and the use of hair as a mechanic. Overall, a great blend of all the things that make life. Great job.

Your end is... Cat? by nicknameriu 2022-04-09T18:22:58Z

Pitch perfect cat simulator with a great take on the theme. Very funny! Suggestion that would increase the quality: the narrative is very funny and the overall tone is great but it is all overwritten. Less is more: have confidence in your writing!

Hungry Bird by GameDevAlexandr 2022-04-09T18:33:34Z

Very solid and fun. Art and visuals are well done. Deeper in gameplay variability than I thought at first, but still a very straight forward game. Great job!

The Fly's Eyes by Colossus_Gaming 2022-04-18T19:52:39Z

Great start here, keep it up!

Bomb Digging by tete 2022-04-14T18:45:30Z

The graphics and sound effects are a spot on retro sendup to old arcade games like Dig-Dug and Bomber Man. Like those games, this is also very unforgiving. That aside, the gameplay is solid and could be the bedrock for a great expansion into a full experience with music, levels, and more twists and turns

Don't Let Me Down by Trev3lyan 2022-04-09T17:30:53Z

The artwork and sound are AMAZING! The gameplay is basic but addictive. It's not the kind of game I usually like to play but can say that I played it for a bit longer than I set out to play.

Although I tried more times than I care to admit, I couldn't get past the second wave. Not quite sure if the difficulty is too high or I am (this is more likely) just bad at this kind of game? Either way, a more gradual difficulty curve or a difficulty setting which manipulates the gravity could be a good add.

Nuke No No by Vincent Welax 2022-04-13T20:04:25Z

Straightforward and effective game! The graphics and music sell the concept while the achievement page is a nice touch. As other reviews have mentioned, the fire rate is high enough that its possible to push the bomb into a corner and to prevent it from falling. Perhaps, if this game were to be polished, the bullets would cause a small amount of damage that would heal over time to disincentivize spamming the shot.

Overall, great job

Morituri by omgitsleana 2022-04-13T20:33:55Z

As a "writer" myself (having no ability to do anything else game related) I'm psyched by games that go all in on the narrative approach in such a short amount of time. Rather than point out some of the bugs and hick-ups others have I'd just like to commend you for broaching such a unique approach. In the future you might consider condensing the depth of a single story by setting up story trees to create the feel of player agency. Overall, great job!

Task Manager by ThePockle 2022-04-13T19:48:43Z

Playing on Opera without a VPN:

I couldn't get more than one task done before getting a "dead battery" notice even though my battery still showed a full charge. Not sure if these are bugs or are part of the design. Overall, the graphics are charming and the basic gameplay (what I could get to play) was neat.

Magma Climb by Aldebaram 2022-04-11T19:30:58Z

Very quick and easy game with fitting classic graphics, music, and sound. The random level generation keeps the game interesting and varied.

Like some other comments, it definitely appeared that some of the generated traps just couldn't be navigated without taking a hit. Maybe this is intentional in order to force taking some risk to reach health. If that's the case, maybe setup a script so that this impossible traps are a bit later.

Overall, good job!

Caveman Bob and the Inevitable Dawn by Elias Newton 2022-04-11T19:48:50Z

The artwork was stellar and the gameplay is very smooth. Jumping around and swatting the bugs was pretty fun and watching their lifeless bodies collect on the ground was pretty satisfying.

I understand the hesitation to add sound, but even a small audio element would have done a lot for a game wherein sound is an important aspect of the narrative.

Overall, great job!

Brought me back to the days of playing the old-school brick GameBoy in the back of the bus. I disagree with the requests for a number pad - that would ruin the whole aesthetic. On the other hand, I suggest a directional pad and select button, some 8-bit sounds, and a "brightness" setting be added in order to further **capture** that GameBoy feel.
