LD49 — Unstable

Family Little Horror Show by ashtheevil 2021-10-11T23:39:02Z

Great atmosphere!! Nice graphics, audio, script! (but dark, I totally understand the censored mode now!)

I would love to know how to reach the other endings people are talking about in the comments, though... I was only following the requests, so I probably did only the basic path.

The Unstable Zone by Zarkonnen 2021-10-07T22:59:19Z

Loved the story, the scenario chosen (Tierra del fuego) and the mood. Very well done! I could totally imagine myself there while playing.

I tried to play it again more than once, but couldn't reach different results (as the other folks in the comments). It looked like most of the choices make no difference in the ending. Or was I just unlucky? Anyway, I'm looking forward to a post-jam version, would love to see how this story will evolve! Great game!

Animal Farm by nervous-composers 2021-10-04T22:30:19Z

I really like the jokes and the animals names (and the twerking dance!), but I had a hard time figuring out what I had to do. Not sure if this is intentional, but I would like to have instructions offered at some point.

In the end, I managed to rebuild the stables, yay me! (Not without making pigs and chicken angry in the process...).

Ciftlik Bar by gord10ahmet 2021-10-11T23:16:54Z

Hey, very nice game! I LOVED the voices, laughed a lot -- "waiteeeer, give me beeer! Give me MORE beer!"

I found the controls a little hard, though. At first I thought I was to be using the mouse only, then I understood it's a mix mouse to direct-arrows to walk (or wasd) (right?). Got only $64 (mostly from one remaining customer, lost all the others), but it was fun nonetheless! Congrats on the entry, good work!

LD49: Homeward by LMB 2021-10-06T22:20:06Z

I really like the fun jokes in random events! My favorites were the one with the philosophers and the works of Russell <3

Despite the instructions, I instintively kept trying to do something while there was no ship on sight and the indicators were hitting alarming levels - and I felt a little frustrated when nothing happened, not even a dialogue. But this would be polishing, probably -- maybe in a post-combo version? ;)

The Blue Bedroom by SplitPainter 2021-10-20T21:53:30Z

Your game is SO beautiful - for the art, of course, but also how you put everything together. Sound effects give a nice touch. And I learned something, also - I didn't know any of the story, just the "cut his ear" quick fact.

I can even imagine your novel being used by art teachers to engage teenagers in class, for instance. Have you thought of that?

Anyway, congratulations on your entry. Great theme ~~choice~~ interpretation and execution. I'm glad I came across your post and got to read your novel today :relaxed:

Mosquito got my Brain by ardorugus 2021-10-16T15:21:56Z

The art is super nice, as the atmosphere (music, sound effects, voice, timing). I felt that mosquito buzz'ing in my head!

A longer story would be nice too, but who knows how long could we'd survive with that buzzing sound? (Without going even madder, anyway.) Great work!

Pale Moon Shone by ditam 2021-10-05T23:05:47Z

Amazing atmosphere, and very nice effects (the glass pushed, the pouring of the drink, the shoes...). I did a lousy job on aiming, though - too much drinking, I guess.

I'd love to see some hints at some points (if aiming was possible or not, what was the main goal, and so on). But maybe this was part of the experience? Anyway, very well-done, with beautiful, polished details.

Icecream Crusher by Elektroney 2021-10-05T22:43:52Z

Very fun and cool graphics -- I love the blood tears in the mad cookie! I notice other comments saying it's impossible to die (and I took some time to realize this while playing), but for me this was probably a good thing, since I could never dodge the cookie bullets in time.

Magic Knight Out!!! by Jahwffrey 2021-10-16T14:59:56Z

Great images and story, very imaginative! The music gives a nice touch to it - and I simply love the arara bird as beloved mentor!

I have to say I envy people that could beat any of the opponents, though. I found the game very hard to play - but I don't play games like this very often, so this may be on me. I kept ducking when I should have jumped (and vice-versa), and missed several attacking opportunities.

I find the idea (and execution, specially art-wise) very very creative. Congrats on the game!

Understable by vidim888 2021-10-06T22:42:43Z

Your graphics are so beautiful, loved them! And I deeply agree with the comment above, saying it's interesting that in this game, YOU'RE A HEART, lol. Innovation points from me!

As per how the game works, I had a hard time figuring this out, what was happening, what I should do to, well, see more of the story. And I took some time to notice the "death plants" were not just background, as the "life" TV box, this type of thing. Some sound effects maybe could help with this feedback, possibly.

A small note (and not in the game itself, but that can be nice for people playing it online): there's an option on itch.io to allow people to play in fullscreen. I feel this more immersive -- and also, if you're playing with arrows, a jump won't be confused by the browser with a scroll up command.

Cultist aboard ! by Guilloteam 2021-10-20T21:25:47Z

Very nice story and atmosphere (audio effects are amazing!!). I would love to see an extended version of this. And I also agree with @laurari above - some random events here and there would give a nice touch for who is playing more than once (like me).

Congratulations on your entry, very polished and fun to play!

Horse To Home by tims 2021-10-07T22:44:14Z

Oh my, there are so many wrong ways horses can fall in their stables, I HAD NO IDEA

Very nice idea and theme interpretation!

I missed audio, though. Neigh, snort sounds would contribute greatly to mood.

The Auto-Analyst by chainsawmcd 2021-10-04T22:16:06Z

I really enjoyed your test, so fun! Looking forward to see more of it! I'd love to see more questions, maybe in different test attempts (I tried, lol).

Very minor: I had to reduce the zoom in my browser in the home screen a little bit to make it all fit without a scrollbar (I'm using Firefox on Windows, resolution 1366x768). Not sure if this was intentional.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Oops, I'm Sinking! by Criobite 2022-04-16T21:31:55Z

Nice art and soundtrack choice (and cute little player)! I found it quite fun also, when I figured out what to do. Having more ways to dump the water (or to try to fix the boat, maybe?) would be nice and add a lot to the gameplay.

Ten Steps of Life by Igor KinGamer 2022-04-19T20:42:51Z

Very nice idea, but I really would like to see the next steps

Island Management by Pete 2022-04-21T16:14:04Z

Hey, nice game! Not really my type, but I liked the way you implemented it and after reading the instructions I very quickly could play it (kind of) successfully.

I missed a little engagement, though: there were no attempts of humor in the text (or I didn't notice?) and absolutely no audio or soundtrack, so atmosphere was not really a thing. At least for me, these tiny things can make a lot of difference on having me engaged in a game/story, and playing for a longer time. On the other hand -- I find it super hard balancing things and coming up with the variables/resources when developing this type of game, so congrats for having something playable in such a short time.

I hope you make to your 20 ratings! In any case, if you don't, don't let this discourage you: there's always LD 51, and you got a lot of nice feedback in the comments already. Good luck!

Try Again by Flaterectomy 2022-04-14T00:21:18Z

I really like the story, but unfortunately didn't manage to see the end -- just kept going back to the start, until the point I gave up. I like your music, but didn't like it was the same during my entire play, even for different moments (action, waking up, getting the rifle). A little variety would improve the atmosphere, I think?

Other than that, I love to see more and more story-based entries in Ludum Dare each time. Yours is super creative, and with a very interesting background (dystopian stories are among my favorites). Great entry!

Blockage by Dis0rder 2022-04-11T22:42:39Z

Great art and audio - super atmospheric, almost hypnotic! I don't know what happened when I played, got myself into a shooting loop I couldn't escape, but I had a nice time exploring before that. Very nice entry!

Grounded! by ajpl 2022-04-14T00:00:54Z

Hey, great first submission! I think it may be too easy for most folks here (I managed to keep delaying the inevitable for as long as I wanted, and I'm super slow), but anyways: I loved how easy it is to start playing and resolve the issues -- no need for a mouse or for alternative keys in the keyboard. Fun, easy to play, nice atmosphere. Very good job!

I'd like to have audio effects to signal when things are about to go out of control. More than just visual controls, this can help the gamer (and it's usually easy to add -- not sure about your platform, though). And the random events/issues appearing (despite they are a nice abstraction, smart concept!) could have a random description... It might have been hard to get them to match the different rooms in the house, I get it, but just the yellow and red bubbles could use some story behind them.

Very nice entry nevertheless, looking forward to see what you come up with in the next Ludum Dare

Pachinko is Life by Don Fouts 2022-04-16T00:43:33Z

Whoa, I wasn't expecting this to be so fun  Funny jokes and writing, easy to start playing (even for beginners to pachinko) and the soundtrack was a perfect fit. Great entry!

LD50: The Mages Massacre by LMB 2022-04-11T22:32:09Z

I loved the story and the writing. When I first saw the dice system I thought it was going to be too hard for someone that didn't play RPG a lot, but that didn't happen - it worked perfectly and (for me) didn't disturb the story at all.

I missed a little sound though - it would make the game super immersive in my opinion (I just saw you have already commented on this). Also seeing the boat progress (and the mages' agreement) in more real time would add more action (but perhaps disturb the reading? not sure!). Great story! :hearts:

Nekawa by Akanthaur 2022-04-14T22:17:34Z

Beautiful game, the art and the soundtrack is very... well, dreamy  I couldn't do much more than explore and wake a few times, even knowing about the double jump. Am I missing something? Anyway, it's a very beautiful entry, good luck on future versions of it! :hearts:

My Story by Ausstein 2022-04-19T20:54:01Z

Super cool entry, loved it! The narrative kept me engaged the entire time, and the puzzles/little games in the middle were a nice touch. Congrats!

Death Or Taxes by Fionnabhair 2022-04-17T22:26:26Z

Hey, very nice story! Fitting soundtrack and audio effects, pretty good options (despite they're never enough for who is playing, we always want more lol). Also, it was good to be able to try the other story branch ("Go back") to see how it played out without having to restart the whole story.

I just felt it was way too short, even exploring the other branches -- but this is a Ludum Dare thing: we never have enough time

Warmer by S1l3Jamal 2022-04-20T22:11:50Z

Very nice game, especially for a first jam!

The game may be incomplete, but it's very playable and (at least for some fires) actually fun. Besides the soundtrack and graphics, already mentioned, we can also see little touches here and there, like increasing the game speed, for instance, or having a instructions page -- few games in the jam have it, and I usually struggle with anything more complicated than pressing enter or direction keys.

Congrats on your entry, see you in the next Ludum Dare!

Run Run Granny! by Hartvichio 2022-04-09T21:39:10Z

I'm the worst, poor grandma!

Very well executed, nice graphics and audio effects. I couldn't get too far though, and would love to see an "easy" slower version

Timeflight Alpha by Quinn_Patrick 2022-04-16T00:57:33Z

I'm too ashamed to share my score  Fun game, even though this is def not my kind of thing (I'm too slow!). So, I'd love to see an "easy" version people could play maybe with the mouse (or just with a more generous timer?).

Something else is that I kept confusing the signs for the upgraded gun and next level (so I got this new gun and hurried to the base, only to die with it). Not sure if this was just me? If they could be a little more different, or maybe use different colors, it would be easier to differentiate.

Anyway, super nice entry, and wow -- done in the Compo!! Congrats!

GameJam Tycoon by Dobryn 2022-04-17T22:38:31Z

Hey, very creative idea! I'd love to see new situations, but the ones you put there are very fun (a little dark, perhaps). In some of them I didn't know for sure how my option would affect the variables, but maybe this was intentional? Also, a soundtrack or audio effects would add a lot to the atmosphere, if you're planning to work in a extended version.

Nice entry overall, congrats for your project!

A Dank Cave by ssh.randy 2022-04-18T23:01:15Z

Beautiful ascii art, and fun mazes! Nice work!

Another suggestion, besides the simple instructions people above already commented - I'd love to have audio effects to help me understand what I was doing  for I didn't look at the text all the time while moving (and even for creating some atmosphere).
