LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Harvest Boom by andreimarks 2015-04-27T23:13:00

Great game! Definitely interesting to combine the stress of FPS accuracy with farm management. It would have been nice if the targets were a color and not white so that I could see them against the cloudy background. This was very well put together and clever.

Quiver of Claws by Bensonance 2015-04-27T22:58:00

Great game! Took me a long time to realize I would do more damage if I charged up to full, so I was constantly running out of arrows shooting enemies three or four times. Graphics and overall design were superb.

LUV GUN by Andrew Adams 2015-04-21T14:08:00

A clever parody of the original GTA games. A little confusing telling what the characters with black symbols in front of them meant (I think I finally figured out they were haters and could hurt my luv'd people?). Overall I felt there could have been more of an immediate challenge to the game (I think I got run over once on accident) as I was a bit disinterested without something to impede my goal of spreading "da luv".

Nasal Defense Force 2033 by ShuddaHaddaLottaFun 2015-04-22T13:01:00

Holy. The end. Is sooooooooooo amazing. Great work on the graphics and menu. Seemed like it was very hard to lose, maybe ramp up the challenge a bit? This is definitely the funniest game I have played this jam.

Dirty Fork: Unleash the Mayhem by SmilingCat 2015-04-22T13:10:00

Haha, this was very silly. I think the controls could be improved if you didn't need to accelerate from zero to gain speed. Maybe try Input.GetAxisRaw instead?
I really liked the fact that the food stuck to objects and that the goal of the game was to create mayhem.
Now where can I find a restaurant that serves pizza, hot dogs, and waffles?

Lisa vs. the Tornado by Wertle 2015-04-22T17:32:00

Great twine game! Really enjoyed reading it. I like the "flickering" lights when you hover over certain words, however I discovered them accidentally. Perhaps if you made the spotlight that follows the cursor much smaller I would be forced to hover over each word as I read it which would ensure I would have my mouse over the interactive word and am reading them at the same time. Very cool, and very effective atmosphere.

Billy McMath Solves Problems by Manky 2015-04-22T17:45:00

Bahaha... I thoroughly enjoyed this. Reminds me of the good ol' days of flash games. Difficulty level was ridiculously high when the player does claim to be good at math. I'm good at math but apparently I'm slow at it haha.

Frickin Lazorz by Kep 2015-04-21T14:40:00

Excellent concept (I don't think I've ever seen the laser mirror mechanic used in a twin stickesque battle arena).
It would have been nice to see some kind of graphical indication that the enemy turrets were suffering damage. I also was a little overwhelmed by the pacing. I think slowing that down a bit would help the player get into the flow of the game. Nice work and very ambitious idea.

Dischord by Wefiends 2015-04-21T15:02:00

Hey, this is really great! I would have liked some kid of visual indication of the notes I was hitting like in the 3d zelda games as I had trouble remembering the order of what I had been tapping. I also ran into a bug in which a yellow slime froze and would not run at me nor be effected by my notes (so I was stuck). Other than that this is superbly polished and was a lot of fun.

DATAWIN Lite by sorlok 2015-04-21T03:18:00

Very ambitious to make an RPG system during the jam. I like that you including different AoE's in your system. My biggest criticism is that there was a long delay waiting for the enemy to attack between each of my attacks. I also ran into a problem when I ran out of MP and went to select a spell there was no way to back out and wait for my MP to recharge. I love that you animated all the trees and rocks. Good job getting so much content in!

Selfie Assault! by mint 2015-04-22T15:10:00

Haha, this is a great concept. If you keep working on it I can see it being absurdly funny with graphics (I'm imagining our character making duck faces and peace signs into the camera while ghouls and goblins shamble up behind them).

Laserino by 43iscoding 2015-04-21T14:21:00

Hey, very solid game! I know I've seen the reflection mechanic before but this was very well executed. I like that it is somewhere between a puzzle and an action game, in that it tests your timing and reflexes as well as your brain.

The effect on the last level looked cool, but didn't really add anything (it just obfuscated the challenge for me as a player). I also don't feel your font choice matched the tone of the game.

Anyway kudos on so much content (achievements?!? holy cow!). Very, very good entry.

Battle of Tolzford by Franklin's Ghost 2015-04-21T13:50:00

Ran into a bug in which if the game isn't full screen there were some invisible walls preventing me from getting to the bad guy. When I went full screen I was able to finish the game.

Other than that I enjoyed the graphics and presentation. I wish it was a bit longer, because I think you could have built up to the idea nicely and created a better narrative by seeing a little more of the "dungeon" (or even just more dialogue options with the bad guy). But, yeah you only have so much time to work on it obviously.

ClanFree by Daiwen 2015-04-21T16:58:00

Hmmmm interesting switch up of twin-stick play. I think the zombies could have ramped up in numbers more gradually, it becomes overwhelming very quickly. Could be cool as a local multi game in which one player controls the character and the other the arrow.

PANIC★PARTY by molecats 2015-04-21T13:33:00

I really enjoyed the presentation. Some of my favorite pixel art I've seen while rating games (love all the different characters and animations). I think the music fits very well also. Unfortunately the movement in the game seemed a bit broken. When I press space to make people panic I'm not sure why my character moves towards the bottom right of the screen. And there appears to be a bug in which if you go all the way to the bottom right you can no longer go back up the screen and are trapped.

Good Grandpa Simulator by eddynardo 2015-04-21T13:43:00

Dang, this one made me laugh harder than any other so far. The third and fourth levels especially were amazing twists on the beginning. I feel that the heart rate mechanic could be improved if when you stop it would recover exponentially faster instead of linearly (maybe use a Lerp?). That way the player doesn't have to spend their time standing around and can get back to playing more quickly; it's enough for them to recognize they need to pause what they are doing.

PandaMEOWnium by grotewold 2015-04-21T03:43:00

Had a lot of fun with this! I really like that it is set up for speed running, with a static layout of enemies and a time completed given at the end.

Don't die, Red! by goglmogl 2015-04-21T02:50:00

I tried to download the OSX version to play but it was a .exe which can only be run on Windows.

Floyd the Pufferfish: Slayer of Squid by killako 2015-04-21T14:00:00

This is a nice arcade game. Whenever I play a game with a timed powerup like this I like to have some kind of cue (an animation, a change in color, music, or some other creative thing) to tell me when the powerup is about to be exhausted. For example: how the invincible stars work in Mario.

I think the core game is good, but the presentation could use some added polish. A music track would help and maybe you could add some nice particle effects (like a trail of tiny bubbles following the squids). Anyway, solid game and fully functional!

Peashooting Funnel by klbrazil 2015-04-21T17:13:00

Solid game! I like the management of two characters. I think I like that uncollected dropped objects become barriers for the eater, but I think an improvement would be to give the eater a jump to use to get over them. I also was able to run off the screen on the right edge ):

Kid Kannon by ElanGleiber 2015-04-21T14:33:00

Had a ton of fun playing this. The dialogue at the start was a hilarious setup for the kid toss mechanic. There were some nice game design elements, like the enemies being on top of the laser buttons triggering them.

Unfortunately I bugged out on one of the moving platform rooms (I died and the platform never reset) so I didn't get to finish ):

One polish I would add is having the enemies fade or pop in as they spawn to give the player time to react to them appearing (also it would look nice). Great work overall!

Quest for the Golden Spork by squirrelbot 2015-04-21T01:56:00

Seconding the cart retrieval comment. I think a graphic during attacking that graphically shows where the hit box covers in front of the character would help a lot more than animating the characters sprite each attack (and be just as quick to execute). For an example of what I mean check out the original NES LoZ sword attacks.

SNIFF by dyfer 2015-04-21T02:27:00

This is great! Really enjoy the concept, although the mental hospital theme both tired and insensitive to people who suffer in those institutions. I feel that the drugs threw so slowly that it was very difficult to accurately land them at a pursuer's feet. If they acted faster I could aim them much better. I also think the blue drugs may as well knock off the baddies just like the red, as stalling them temporarily didn't seem to add much. In terms of aesthetic presentation: audio was definitely noticeably weaker than game's graphics which were superb. Overall: excellent work!

Lookout by Pixelcyborg 2015-04-21T02:08:00

Really enjoyed the artwork and sound effects. Unfortunately (and I could be missing something) I wasn't able to walk past the first two guards. I seemed to successfully hack them (I got green check marks and numbers appeared above their heads?) but I couldn't move past after this. Seems like you are definitely on the right track with the great in-game instruction queues. It's a shame I couldn't experience more of the game ):

Terraforming Blues by jordinuco 2015-04-21T17:08:00

Haha, I could not get the hang of the controls of this game. Had to spam buttons and hope things worked out. Mapping to WASD or indicating what each button letter does visually would help. I'm still not sure if I was supposed to be hitting keys in rhythm or matching particular keys to different pitches? Maybe making this indicated by an animation like most rhythm games do would help a lot. Really like the idea of a clunky awkward shooter built around having to stay in rhythm, just needs a lot of work on the controls.

Malilbro by uniuni 2015-04-21T03:30:00

I enjoyed the character art and and animations a lot, but for the environment sprites it looks like you had some trouble with the transparency around the sprites (they have white outlines). Make sure you are saving as .png's and make sure your import settings in unity are getting you the right alpha transparency. I also noticed some of the graphics (very large rocks) were too low resolution and looked blurry. Beyond the graphics the gameplay seemed pretty smooth although perhaps it felt a little slow paced to be a fun combat system.

Pedestrian Mining Corps by mildmojo 2015-04-21T15:08:00

Haha, I had a lot of fun with this. The animated texts and animations are really well done and look great. It would have been nice if you found a voxel model of earth and the asteroids as the graphics didn't mesh too well together. I also think a few less asteroids spawning would have freed up some space and made the challenge more interesting (only once or twice did I get to see a civilian flung deep into space to be caught in orbit by one of the asteroid's gravity fields). Great work!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Ecosystem by AtkinsSJ 2015-12-28T21:37:00

Awesome little simulator! Very impressive movement of water for a jam game. I enjoyed watching cactuses take over everything, and discovering how to grow water lillies. I tried to set up an irrigation system for the flowering plants that need water, but it didn't work out too well. The seed popping sound and rain sfx were a bit annoying. Great concept, would love to see this expanded.

Seedling by handCraftedRadio 2015-12-15T15:13:00

Nice game! Like the retro arcade feel! Like Snake meets Sokoban. My biggest complaint is restarting at level 1 each time I die becomes frustrating. Particularly since the game has puzzle elements, I just want to be able to retry over and over very quickly. Good job!

Sea Level by Christian S. 2015-12-15T19:42:00

This is a very curious game. I enjoyed the open ended prompt of the island with all the objects. The way pieces snapped together were very impressive. I have no idea how to achieve the growth of trees and grass featured in the screenshots. I tried building some trees and sticking the coconut and skull to them. In one playthrough my goal became to see how far I could get off the island by building a bridge of branches. It went pretty well until I drowned. The tension of the sea level rising was also a nice element. Good work.

Rocks, maps, scissors by Split82 2015-12-16T14:32:00

Very impressive little card game. It's hard to make a great strategy game in such a short period but this delivered pretty well. I often felt a little too at the mercy of luck (much like rock paper scissors) which isn't a great feeling for a game of strategy, but overall it was a pretty impressive take on deck building. UI work and graphics are very polished. Theme is not particularly well represented, but I'm glad you made this particular game regardless! Nice work!

The Last of Egg by ShuddaHaddaLottaFun 2015-12-19T16:02:00

Heh heh heh. Sausage zombie demons are really what made this. Favorite funny game so far. I need to go make some breakfast.

Ministry of Growth and Information by ashdnazg 2015-12-15T19:00:00

Nice work. I enjoy the voyeurism of listening in to each station. Not sure how much it really lives up to the theme, but I'm glad you made this regardless!
I accidentally reported "The Truth" a lot because all of the dialog sounds like conspiracy theories and something that counts as "falsehoods".

Seicho Boru by Robert 2015-12-15T18:35:00

A very impressive katamari clone. I'm surprised you were able to replicate so much of the game in three days! I do wish there were some more original elements to let the game stand out on it's own. Really this plays as katamari without some key mechanics that make it great (knocking into buildings, etc). But it is a nice send up to one of the greatest games of all time.

SILooET by Pantelis Petsopoulos 2015-12-15T14:14:00

Awesome game! Spent a lot of time with it, I think I had almost beat it but then I accidentally navigated away in my browser ):
I felt the difficulty ramping was on point for the first 10 levels or so, but later into the game it gets a little stale as there aren't new mechanics introduced. Still very impressive that you designed so many levels and I spent far more time on this game than I do most entries.
Not sure I bought into the moody black and white graphics and ominous music were a good fit for this game as I felt it was actually a bright experience mechanics-wise. That title graphic is great though!
Overall very impressive!

8 Questions by keanerie 2015-12-15T17:18:00

It's a fairly interesting concept. I'm not sure that the bars mechanic is necessary, it makes the experience a bit confusing and distracting from the decision making. I think really critically thinking about what information we are able to (and not able to) read within communication with our partners in our day to day relationships and emulating these things would yield a more compelling game experience than including stats in the game but keeping them largely hidden. It's a cool theme to tackle and I really liked the graphical presentation.

Pizza Panic by Didi 2015-12-15T19:59:00

Haha, solid arcade game... Now I'm hungry. I liked the music and sound effect choices. The graphics were a well put together mix of illustration and textured backgrounds. It would be cool if the difficulty progression was that to complete orders you have to provide larger and larger stacks of pizza.

BloatBlaster by the-arrival 2015-12-15T19:52:00

I think the mechanic of gauging how much I should fire depending on the enemy's size wasn't that fun and hard to read. It was a bit too hard to strategize around that element while also dodging and firing at enemies for me. The graphics and lighting of the arena were well put together. Well polished entry.

Kitty Glacier Surfing by HUMANICS 2015-12-15T13:48:00

Game crashed when I tried to open it. Looks pretty funny though!

Dungeon Wheel by BeardyBard 2015-12-15T15:56:00

A clever idea. I wish the wheel turn animation was faster so that I could fly through battles as the game became I bit monotonous. Pixel art and animations are on point. It would be cool if I could set my wheel slots or something to mod my character's actions. Imagine if this game had skills and spells that you could put in your wheel slots! It became frustrating to never get defense + when I was rolling for character growth--I was limited to 2 the entire game and this made defense+ worthless. Anyway, nice work and great level of polish.

Unicell Manager by PanKamil 2015-12-15T16:54:00

Good concept for a game. I like that the player has to do some strategy builder stuff but also manage this hectic space that involves physics bouncing things about. It may have been too quick paced and dense for me to get a good handle of what was going on. Perhaps including the graphics for the different elements in the little tutorial intro panel would have helped me understand more quickly. Overall, nice work.

Super Kawaii Timeshift Desu by chaomoon 2015-12-15T18:22:00

Hmm.. Unfortunately I am stuck on part that is only about a minute in. The mechanic is pretty cool and the graphics are pleasing to look at. I like that you including gamepad support!

Bouncing Bounces by khofez 2015-12-15T13:37:00

Mac version on my computer wouldn't open, unfortunately. Screenshots look nice though!

JellyPirates by Blobby101 2015-12-15T16:42:00

Hmm... this game has some great ideas and features but the mechanics are kinda wonky. I love the idea of a physics based naval battle. I think you got the boats rocking about down pretty well, but the jelly cannonballs seemed to never be spawning in the correct place. This made it difficult to feel like I was actually controlling the flow of the game. I had some pretty funny moments though, like when my ship was rocked way up ontop of a rubbber ducky and I had to move my pirate over to counterbalance it.
I really liked the wobbly effect on the graphics and the generally clean looking style.
Good work, just needs to be cleaned up a bit gameplay wise.

TreePlanting Simulator by Cursed Embassy 2015-12-15T14:29:00

The graphics, idea, and mood are good, but I wish you had more gameplay to offer. One implementation you may have been able to get done quickly would simply be removing all of the trees that are already there and making them all plots. Then the player would go around and make a forest instead of the forest already being there.

Hope by Vidinu 2015-12-15T15:37:00

Nice game. The graphics and animations were very impressive. Scroll wheel is a notoriously finicky input, it can be completely different depending on the mouse and the player's calibrations, so I would probably avoid that and stick to either panning the mouse up and down or the up and down arrow keys. The game itself was fun and the boss fight was pretty neat. Nice work, well polished.

OSHIYA! PUSH! by inbetweengames 2015-12-15T17:05:00

Haha! That was a great concept. Moving between doors was probably my least favorite part, I think gameplay would probably be smoother if you didn't have to spend time trying to line yourself up behind passengers. I love the hand drawn look of the graphics and that song is my jam. I experienced a funny bug in which Takao closed himself behind a door and couldn't get back out. Overall presentation was very coherent, great work!

Spinning Around by DinnerInTheDark 2015-12-15T20:38:00

Great aesthetic! I love the perspective of looking inside of a Coliseum shaped structure. I wished there were a few more interesting puzzles using the mechanics as I walked through most of the game without needing to think much, however it's hard to design great puzzles in three days. Well done and extremely polished!

Sprouting Magic by Dakutau 2015-12-15T15:26:00

A solid game. The lighting was gave a good atmosphere to the game. I wish the window size was perhaps a bit bigger and there was more navigation space left and right. Perhaps some other types of obstacles. Overall, the game needs a unique twist for the experience to really impress, but this is a functional arcade classic.

NarNar Jump by Hackbug 2015-12-15T20:26:00

A fun endless running. I like the evolution element, although I wish the difficulty would scale independently of evolving as I had a number of play sessions were I racked up very high scores only going back and forth between level 2 and one continuously.

Trimmer Tycoon by Oski 2015-12-15T15:19:00

Haha that was fun. I'm impressed by the coloring and trimming mechanics. The controls were a bit difficult as the clippers didn't seem to cut exactly where I was clicking (maybe they were cutting across to where my mouse was but this made me make lots of mistakes). Good job.

ANTI-THUNDER by jamaster96 2015-12-15T13:53:00

Hmmm... mechanics were a little obtuse for me. I need to button smash to win but is it ever strategically better to not smash to avoid the lightning? Maybe it would be more interesting if we saw the lightning charging up so we had something to react to rather than just randomly encounter with no visual legibility of whether we get hit or not. Nice concept, and yay for local multiplayer!

Feed Your Queen by stargardengames 2015-12-15T17:42:00

Nice "twin stick" shooter (would have loved to play it on a gamepad, actually). I loved the color palette. The different enemies were well varied and had interesting AI routines. It would be cool to have gained powerups from growing the queen to give a stronger sense of progress. Good work!

13VS25 - 2D Space Shooter by TripleW 2015-12-15T13:33:00

Pretty nice for a first game. I wasn't sold on the enemy having all the advantages (faster shooting and faster restoring). Maybe if there were multiple stages and it built up to a tough enemy. I'd also like to be able to hold down space and make continuous shots rather than tap it every time. Good job, hope you continue making games!

Jay in Love Garden by Namek 2015-12-15T18:44:00

The game wasn't very well balanced. The first level was brutally short and the second was very long, I think a stronger focus on pacing would go a long way. I liked the animation of the dollar signs changing colors and falling from the trees. The character graphics and walk animation gave me a chuckle!

Junior Executive Assistant by AdWARDS 2015-12-15T15:02:00

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to provide you with a two weeks notice. While I have valued my time at Yondermore Consulting, I must move on to greater personal endeavors. I enjoyed the graphical interfaces provided to me as an employee. I also thought the company's positive platitudes greatly contributed to our work environment presenting themes of labor and corporate ideology. While my experience furthered my knowledge and appreciation of Papers Please-like games, I do feel the length of my work may have been too long for as simple as mechanics as I had to work with. Perhaps if I was provided with more opportunities for personal expression (little rebellions and such) I would have had a more positive experience with the company. Overall, I had an excellent career with Yondemore, and I am proud to say that my time with this corporation was some of the best narrative work I have seen in the competitive field of Ludum Dare.

Normal Factory by exhidor 2015-12-15T16:08:00

A solid game. The pacing took a while to figure out, but once I had that it became a little too easy. Maybe if the speed ramped up gradually that would help with things. I wish there was a little bar that showed how much time I had left in each chamber as that was the trickiest part to figure out. My favorite part of this game were the different object graphics that entered and left the conveyor belt!
