The idea of the game is good. I liked being able to kill monsters with a box it was pretty fun. Nice work !

talia 2018-08-13 08:36

I tried your game and I really like your UI and your GameOverScreen - nice animation. I wish the player would be a little bit faster ;)

call-me-nutty 2018-08-13 08:38

It's a fun idea and it's actually pretty fun to play! The crushing is brutal but satisfying as hell. The controls need some work, I'm not very convinced by the "turn on your own axis" movement system but I got into it after a while. With some polish this could be a pretty fun little game.

alexkarate 2018-08-13 08:50

This game is pretty good. I think the game would be better with some sound at least and the controls are not that great, but overall it's very fun. I also really like that after some amount of time the boxes and the red zombies corner you and you really start "running out of space" to work with.

drunkardwolf 2018-08-13 09:16

Great work. Would have been nice if there was a how to play screen in game, as I was a bit confused how to kill the zombies at first. Sound effect would have been nice too. Other than that, I had a lot of fun! :D

dries-vuylsteke 2018-08-13 09:48

I like the animations, mechanics and concept. I'm not too big a fan of restricted four directional movement, but that's personal preference.

Perhaps it could be cool to be able to drag boxes? that way you'd have more control of the contraptions you build to trap zombies.

serious07 2018-08-13 13:48

I was having a nice dance around the box with a zombie. 😀

guilhermoni 2018-08-13 13:53

Solid game, really fun, well done!

conorod 2018-08-13 13:58

Really nice implementation of the theme and very well made! Had a lot of fun with this, and especially loved the visual effect when squashing zombies. I did encounter one bug - when a box you're pushing turns into a zombie, the game crashes. Apart from that, no other problems.

Would love to play this with some sound effects added - I think they'd enhance things greatly.

2018-08-13 15:39

Clever idea! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/wNBCLkIQclA

kaboosh 2018-08-13 16:43

It was fun to squash the enemies and it was an overall interesting take on the theme, great job!

linky439 2018-08-13 17:56

Nice take on the theme! I would have loved a few more animations when you move around and some sound effects, but I understand 48h can be a bit short for all this ^^

8 kills for 158 points. I'd say the character is a bit slow too, but other than that, it's good :)

manbeardgames 2018-08-14 02:38

Interesting game. Took me a minute to figure out that you kill the zombies by pushing a box into them. Given the name of the game and that the boxes were falling, I thought I had to lead them under a falling box to kill them.

The splatters are a nice touch.

I did encounter an error, I believe it's the same one that @conorod experienced above as well. When pushing a box that then turns into a zombie, it throws the error. Here is the error information that is shown if it's helpful at all.

``` ___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ FATAL ERROR in action number 1 of Step Event0 for object obj_player:
smithy 2018-08-14 07:45
@manbeardgames @conorod Thank you for letting me know about the error. I know what is causing it but the time is up, so unfortunately I can't fix it
call-me-nutty 2018-08-14 09:50
@smithy Hey smithy. Just a quick heads up. If you read the rules it states that you're allowed to fix any bugs or adjust any unexpected behaviour in your game even during voting. You just aren't allowed to add any new features to your game.
fredmaaktgames 2018-08-14 11:20
Cool concept and nicely done!
smithy 2018-08-14 12:48
@call-me-nutty Thank you for letting me know, the bug is now fixed
siridakis 2018-08-14 13:18
Cool game, simple and very addictive. It's that kind of game you lose and think "I can do better", then procede to try again at least five times. Got me engajed enough to remain alive, managing crates for almost 11 minutes! @_@ Congratulations for your game :) Screenshot to prove it:!
@siridakis Thank you! As a reward I put up your highscore as screenshot on my itcho
siridakis 2018-08-14 14:27
Wow, thanks :D
jackou 2018-08-14 22:03
This is indeed a really simple game, that somehow keeps me engaged anyways - it feels satisfying. I really like the art, I just wish there were some sounds or music, that would have been awesome. Good job on this entry!
ceasar 2018-08-15 10:14
Nice job dude! I loved the graphics!
bazld 2018-08-15 12:42
Great game. The mechanics work really nicely, and its fun getting out of tight spots with some accurate squashing :)
balance686 2018-08-15 18:32
Fun game! Simple and well executed. Squishing zombies is a blast and you made good use of the theme. I would like if the player rotated faster but the current speed adds to the challenge. Good submission!
nam-nguyen 2018-08-16 03:34
Right of the batch I have to say this: The boxes cant have a circle shadow! So that is something can be improved. Enemy movement is a bit slow compared to the drop speed of boxes, Idk if thats intentional or arbitrary, if it was arbitrary, I suggesting making them more in sync in speed, creating an overall pace for the game. Otherwise I like the programmer art, the death particle looks very juicy too, good job putting it all together in a short amount of time!
mrjoshuamclean 2018-08-16 13:17
Love the blood effect when the zombies get squashed. Definitely needs audio, a good meaty squish to go along with that. Also, would be cool to be able to pull the boxes. You'd still run out of space but would have more leeway arranging/using them. Here's a video of my play: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297350503
mike-inprinciple 2018-08-18 01:23
I liked the blood permanence. I think there ought to be a way to control zombie killing. From what I understood, the boxes would fall on zombies and it would be pure luck whether they would be killed or otherwise. Generally I didn't feel much in control of the game.
smithy 2018-08-18 11:50
@mike-inprinciple You missed a crucial mechanic. You can push boxes and squash zombies that way. (It is my fault I should have included a small tutorial) Most people figured it out
pnghasemi 2018-08-19 05:54
Minimalistic but quite fun. I wish it wasn't mute. Music has an important role in setting the mood. Or at least sound effects! In my opinion, the game should feel better on mobile devices!
james-shipp 2018-08-22 11:19
Cool entry! I think the movement and player rotation could be a little speedier/ more responsive, and it isn't super intuitive how to kill zombies at first (at the beginning I thought I was supposed to box them in or something) but no huge complaints, really fun game. I especially like the effect for when the boxes fall down into place.
rahim-pxr 2018-08-27 22:22
Nice game, Love how everything is balanced! Good luck, Don't forget to take a look at ours if you don't mind and see what it's like when we just focused on graphics in this game jam! Game Link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spacelab-42a
repusv 2018-08-31 21:03
Pushing the boxes on the zombie to kill them was quite fun! Well done!
hungare 2018-09-02 19:25
Nice work! I thought the idea was very creative, and the animation of the boxes and text was a nice touch. I would have liked a bit of sound, but it's no biggy. Well done!
wisstopher 2018-09-04 10:51
Cool idea. My initial concern was the stickiness of the movement, its kind of at a point between grid based and free movement. It's an interesting idea though, good entry!
