Great work guys! Was awesome to see the progress on stream as well. Care to review mine?

kindred 2018-04-24 04:49

Of course @theArtifacts ! Drop the link or send it over Discord! And thanks for all the comments. I'll be playing a ton of games on Twitch over the next week.

I'm very impressed with the graphics and the idea! :fireworks:

artur-hawkwing 2018-04-24 06:21

I love the idea, and the gameplay is incredibly smooth and simple. The art and sound in amazing as well!!! Great job!!!

tibseydon 2018-04-24 08:21

GG, nice game, I love the concept

deadlymidnight 2018-04-24 09:01

Thanks all! We really appreciate the feedback and positive reviews!

afroant 2018-04-24 17:03

Yes! I adore the artwork! The graphics plus the story made it feel like a real world. Music and sfx were fantastic as well. I think the text-based input didn't need the shortcuts (but then you'd have to redesign all the levels to be easier). Can't wait to go back and finish the game and enter Heaven for real. Nice job!

kindred 2018-04-24 18:05

@AfroAnt So I think if we would have gone more with a more Mario and less "fall to your death a whole lot" approach then it could have worked better with the fully written controls. But we wanted an almost puzzle/twitch platformer feel to really smash some opposing genres together. So shortcuts were pretty necessary. There's definitely some situations where you end up just mashing your keyboard trying to get her to stop before falling of a ledge. Lol

After the prototype though, I can see some actual text adventure-esque potential here if we cut out a lot of the twitchy platformer stuff.

cassio-eduardo 2018-04-24 18:36

The presentation is very good (specially for a game jam) and the gameplay is smooth and functional. One minor annoyance is that the portal takes too long to build.

Great job.

velocity7 2018-04-24 19:25

Amazing idea and a great game. Well polished and it made my typing faster

zukureneno 2018-04-24 19:33

Type to move and platforming done well and I don't know how you made it work but good job you did

deadlymidnight 2018-04-24 20:11

@Cassio-eduardo Thanks for the feed back on the portal build time. We actually got this a few places and think the first time you build it, it felt good but not waiting for it every time, so likely in future versions this will become more tuned to the importance of the event.

2018-04-24 21:12

I saw the dev team working on this game via stream and i could say they even did a better job then what i was thinking they could do.

This guys never stop to amaze me.

The game is hard in an old platformer kind of way in association with a text mechanic that really works (and makes it harder)

Be prepared for some level design surprises and some curve balls you really aren't expecting.

mister-kweh 2018-04-25 01:26

Super impressive! Loved this game. Will probably actually end up playing some more later. Trying to give a bunch of games a shot. The music kind of reminds me of the music from Dofus if you've ever heard of that! Will definitely keep my eyes peeled for more stuff from you guys in the future! Oh and we're currently working on a fix for the memory error you got when trying to play our game before! Check back and give it a try again later! GREAT JOB!!

trickster511 2018-04-25 01:50

Great game! Awesome use of theme! Love the typing aspect and it was great seeing it being made on your streams

darkphnx 2018-04-25 06:26

This game has fantastic art and a good soundtrack to go with it. You did a great job of combining two "incompatible" genres in a very unique way.

Well done!

goat-toaster-games 2018-04-25 07:23

Wow, this was fantastic in so many ways. I loved everything about it. It was such an interesting idea and really well executed, too. Loved the graphics and music, it was just so intriguing! Well done

erebus 2018-04-25 07:43

Really cool idea. The game looks and sounds great! I think the controls weren't for me but I appreciate what you were doing with it!

javasaurus 2018-04-25 07:44

Awesome game, incredible graphics for a jam game. Highly entertained, thank you for the submission ! :)

langotriel 2018-04-25 10:12

Visually, this game is top notch! I think it could benefit from a few quality of life tweaks but generally, it is a solid entry and a good example on how to do this theme right. Also, rage.

eott 2018-04-25 21:16

This is a great game, good scores all across the board.

kindred 2018-04-26 00:39

Thanks everyone for the kind words! It's really exciting watching everyone stream the game, and so satisfying when they figure out some of the nuances in the commands and figure out how to finish each level.

kovakomes 2018-04-26 08:21

Great way to incorporate a text adventure into a platformer. Wanted to keep playing, but couldn't figure out how to go through the portal so I ragequit. :(

kindred 2018-04-26 09:05

@Kovakomes Oh no! Lol You just have to "enter" the portal to go through it... We ran out of time to polish our tutorial. Biggest regret so far. That and level 4.... *shudders*

kovakomes 2018-04-26 09:12

Welp, I guess I'm one of those players who's hand has to be held throughout the game. LOL. Great entry none the less. Well done.

yahialds 2018-04-26 13:07

Im really impressed with the art and polish of this Jam game, but the design is overall a good idea too

topbraj 2018-04-27 07:31

What an amazing effort. The polish that you guys managed to achieve is super impressive. Even though there were some minor annoyances at times, I feel that this game manages to pull off that elusive combination of *hard* AND *fair*. This is reflected in the clips my users took of me while streaming the game - hands thrown up into the air, a muffled curse, a shake of the head, followed by a smile and "...I can't believe I did it wrong AGAIN!". Well done.

tuomo 2018-04-27 15:38

I really liked the idea and enjoyed playing until reached the third level. After that it became more of platformer with awkward controls than text command platformer. You could have focused more on puzzle elements instead timing “j+enter” action as it is now. In whole your game is solid entry: nice crisp visuals, soothing sounds and music, and interesting storyline.

paula 2018-04-28 19:00

Cool game!!! It's great the mix of generes and really well done. The ambience and scenary is amazing, also great music. The only think I would change is to add a shorter version of commands to make it easier. Excelent job and really interesting gameplay.

f1krazy 2018-05-14 21:01

Sadly my laptop isn't capable of running this at anything higher than about 10FPS, which made it almost impossible to play. I really am bummed about that. I was so looking forward to playing this. I won't fault you at all, it's my terrible old laptop's fault. I'll just judge what I can.

The graphics are astonishing. For 72 hours' work, you've managed to make something that almost looks like a retail game. The concept is great: it looks like you managed to work in quite a few commands, and I like how they're revealed naturally through the dialogue, though I would have liked to have been able to type just "left" and "right".

It'll be way too late for the jam, but once I get a new computer this'll be on my list of games to play. For now, I've just rated what I can.
