It's pretty all right. The sound design is nice and and doesn't blast out your ears (with no volume control of course). The platforming feels kinda... sticky? Like a lot of early platformers for PC it doesn't have any kind of momentum. There seems to be a good amount of content for a Ludum game.

twopm 2018-12-04 04:02

Woah really polished effort here, nice work!

pez 2018-12-04 04:02

This is great! Made me lol at the first sacrificial moment too!

silvae 2018-12-04 04:02

Very nice. Loved the graphics and sound. World seemed nice. I found the controls a little tricky. Movement seemed too sensitive and I think a buffer after leaving the platform where you can still jump would be very helpful.

There was something fishy with this game from the start ; the yuuuge cute eyes of the protagonist, the "happy but kind of maniac" soundtrack, the all too cute friends, the many achievements and the reference to the "moral code" on the itchio page... Something was lurking beneath the cheerful appearance of the game.

It all happened faster than I thought.

My eyes went as big the player character's at the opening of the first door, and then at the sudden change in gameplay mechanics. It made for one of the best surprises I've experienced during a Ludum Dare.

Pros : - Beautiful graphics, excellent soundtracks (with several tracks, if I'm not mistaken) - Tight platforming controls - Multiple funny elements (acheivements, visual dissonance between the acts and the graphics) - Great level design

Cons : - Reloading the webpage is mandatory to restart. - Some jumps are a little hard from the get-go, especially with a keyboard.

All in all, excellent job !

One of the best!

jimmothysanchez 2018-12-04 04:04

Very cool, well polished game. I noticed a couple of bugs though. If you stand facing a wall and throw a buddy he goes through the wall making him unreachable. Also if you stand on your organs you can't jump, making it really difficult if you dies a couple times in the same location. All in all though a great entry.

I thought the game was really cute at first, gathering the first three purple creatures. Then I saw them explode when used for the gate! haha, great game. The controls definitely could use more work though to make it smoother for a platformer.

myalias 2018-12-04 04:17

Interesting game. I noticed the vines before one of the friends aren't working correctly and the final statistic shows X/Y and 0/40 instead of the numbers.

tabitha 2018-12-04 04:21

Hey @myalias thanks for checking out our game! We noticed the vines too and JUST pushed a fix for it. We're working on getting the stats page working right too. Thanks again!

ogtoad 2018-12-04 04:23

I really like the platforming. The movement is very accurate and fits the level:)

tabitha 2018-12-04 04:25

oooof, great catch @jimmothysanchez ! We all busted up laughing at the prospect of losing friends through the walls! We'll work on that one. Thanks so much for playing!

unplugred 2018-12-04 04:31

who doesnt love a bit of the ultra-violence??

this game is a lovely grotesque piece which i find hilarious.

it seemed lovely at first, and i jumped when they exploded for the first door.

the art is beautiful, and although the controls are a bit sluggish at first, you get used to it quickly.

i did however get stuck after i passed the first door.

could use some playtesting, but overall its really quirky and fun.

doubleblackstudios 2018-12-04 04:34

I think it was really funny how it started because I knew that there would be a twist somewhere.

sandpile 2018-12-04 04:46

The death sound and blood particles were certainly not what I expected from this game when I booted it up. Sacrificing the little thingies made me very joyous indeed. This is very polished, great job!

flashviper 2018-12-05 00:25

Really cool game here! The sounds are very on point and mostly fit the game. The platforming is a little primitive, and as a result, some of the jumps could be a little closer together, and maybe some of the platforms a little bigger. I love the character design. They are really cute! You did a great job with this game.

meenners 2018-12-05 06:10

Fun little platformer you got there! Just some feedback: the level design may need a little help. Not sure if it was the learning curve by after passing the 1st gate, i had difficulty figuring out where the purple guys were. Maybe cause there was no "minimap" to see where i was and/or no seeing enough of the landscape. I think games like Metroid and other puzzle platformers make use of a mini-map to alleviate my concern. Other than that, great job! im a sucker for achievements.

D: WHY!!! I watched ElysiaGriffin play this on stream and the first time she did it... D: D: D: Why!!!

nelson-william 2018-12-05 18:05

I love this! It's so cute, pretty and polished. It doesn't feel like a jam game! I don't like those types of fast-moving platformers, but I guess that's just a preference. Anyway, I really liked this and am really impressed.

wugbor 2018-12-06 03:09

Fantastically adorable and hilariously brutal. I was slightly horrified but couldn't stop laughing when the first door opened.

plugworldg 2018-12-07 02:41

This game is awesome, I still feel bad for killing those little guys.

arnau 2018-12-07 11:42

You took into account so many amazing details that it really seems a full game experience, tutorial, acheivements, many SFX, particles, VFX, but I really missed the game over or automatic reset of the level when the character is killed which is kind of core in this genre. Overall, fantastic game you made!

emperor-eagle 2018-12-09 07:00

Cool game with interesting mechanics. I like it! I especially like how it feels like a ready to publish game with the achievements and so on. Great game!

Well that was definitely a cute platformer with a certain mood-twist twist to it. The first time I had to sacrifice the friends to open the first gate I honestly felt like laughing out load. The unexpected guts on such a colourful and cutesy platformer really caught me off my guard and really gave the game a nice humour tone.

The presentation of the game was really charming, and the music was also pretty fitting. The game felt a bit standard-ish in terms of the platforming action, but the controls felt pretty tight anyways. The achievements and all were a neat touch as well. Some more variation in the level design (such as using the cave tiles a bit more) would have given it a bit more variation in terms of level design.

The only thing I feel that would have been welcome would be having some indication of where the finish is, as in the two runs I've made, while in the second trying to collect every friend, I didn't know there were two different paths to finish the game, and ended up finishing the run again before understanding it was the finish line. A quick reset instead of having to refresh the page would also have been welcome.

On [behalf of our team](https://discord.whalesandgames.com), congratulations on this entry. I am going to have my friends guts exploding as I open doors in my mind for a while. Cheers! :whale:

lilou-cormic 2018-12-12 01:35

I must admit I was not prepared for that door-opening! Actually laughed out loud! Complete game with different biomes, achivements, collectables, large level to explore, great graphics, music and sounds. Excellent job!

Really juicy for such a short time. Maybe the contrasting tones between exploding giblets and the very happy music really sold it.
