Usually when you play jam games you approach them from a completely different standpoint than the games you buy and play in your spare time. But this one... This one I played for the pure enjoyment of the process. This game just blew me away with it's polish and volume. The story, the characters, beautiful music and even fully voice acted! Thats what happens when a fully fledged team approaches the task.
There are just a couple of very minor things. Character talking animation is out of sync but you stop noticing it after a minute. Subtitles appear long before the actual voiceline starts thus creating a little dissonance. Overall the art is great (especially the classroom), but the chessboard is a little bit too stylized for me. I'm not a very competent chess player but I couldn't make up which figure is which, so I lost that challange after a couple of wrong turns.
And I got the bad ending (I suppose there are multiple). Which is actually really-really good! It's not always a good ending in real life, especially if you are such an irresponsible person as our main character.
Great graphics and audio, parveen could have been a little louder though
This game has so much content. The story just keeps on going and going! I have no idea how you managed to put so much "Game" into this in only 72 hours but it is amazing! The graphics are awesome too. And not to mention this whole thing has voiceacting. Simply awesome!
It's beautiful and despite it's flaws it's much more than anyone can expect from a 72 hour game jame :) My personal pet peeve - dialog should end/continue automatically after a certain time, not just after click, that stuff annoyed me a bit, but not like quitting annoyed. But I'm sure that and plenty other things is that polishing you don't have enough time for in game jam, otherwise amazing work and I like it very much! :)

I am so impressed that you made this over a weekend! This is the only game I've played so far that I got all the way through, so kudos on the level of polish. Alida's voice acting and the art were the strongest points for me. I'm a huge softie for point and click adventures (since I was kid playing the King's Quest series), especially in fun themes like this. I would definitely play the full game if you decided to expand this, very charming :)
Very ambitious game for Ludum Dare and very well done! It's amazing how much content there is in this game and the puzzle are pretty well designed, maybe a little straightforward but still very competent. And also you really did A LOT of voiceacting for this game. Graphics are pretty and this art style really fits the atmosphere of the game. Well done!
Thank you all for your comments! Yeah we are very happy we got all the voice acting in as well in such short time, it really adds a lot! @detectiveLosos Thanks for your feedback! The out of sync issue seams to be mainly in the web version. In the downloadable version its is fairly synced, but the loadtimes are higher between rooms instead, it seams the webversion loads the audio when it's played which sadly results in a lag. @honey I understand your preference in this, we chose this way to make those who have trouble with english have time to read the subtitles in their own time.. but we could definitely add it as an option to choose if you want the dialog to continue by itself. Thanks for letting us know!

Congratulations for the content and the voiceovers, this is a nice touch.
The puzzle path is a bit unequal though, and would gain some polish. I blocked on how to finish the dreamcather (thanks for the playtrough !), when the rest didn't require very much thoughts from me (ex. clicking every ingredients until finding the correct ones).
Note that the character sprite wasn't flipped correctly with the movement orientation, resulting on a lot of moonwalks from Alida :)

Really nice game! Impressive that you managed to get all the components together to form a complete game. Really good graphics, relaxing music, decent voice acting (could've been more immersive), cute story and nice puzzles. You get a bonus point for that terrible wood-joke ("that wood not work") xD You could have made the puzzles a bit clearer, I was lost for a while when I was trying to create the dreamcatcher; I read the book but she wouldn't tell me what it contained. Nice that you included a walkthrough as well.
I enjoyed my playthrough. Managed to summon evil and possibly destroy the whole academy... I think I encountered a bug with the potion though, because when the items on the shelves respawned I only got to use the holy water and the potion was ready. I had put in the Holy water and another item before, but couldn't find the rose petals earlier. Anyways, nice job with all those voice lines! The audio did clip/cut out at times or had some large audio level differences, but I really enjoyed it!
@TheM we were especially happy with that line :) @Zetre definitely a bug, will put in on the list for fixed up version :)
@jsmars I forgot to mention how I laughed out loud at multiple puns! Also, were the The Room (film) references on purpose? :joy:
I love this so much. The art and the music go so well together and overall it is so polished and enjoyable to play. Sometimes the audio levels differed between characters but this is really a minor issue in my opinion. Getting all that voice acting done on time is so impressive too. Well done :)
@Zetre None of the lines I wrote were, I'll have to ask the others if they made any on purpose. Not sure which you are referring to, the urn maybe? :D

Whoa, this is some serious work for only 72 hours. The dialogue volume is a bit "everywhere", but considering that it even has voiceovers is just amazing. Just stunning.

ok :) so i played through the whole thing, i think i got the bad ending with the spell.. oops.. over all i liked it a lot. i thought that the puzzle with gathering ingredients for the potion could have been drawn out a bit more... like you could have had to get the water from the fountain that you have to figure out how to get working again. i didn't manage to get through the locked door either :( but i liked the art and the setting was really good. some of the voice acting is a bit choppy, some words got missed out on some of the lines, but it was good. a nice addition, although some dialogue was quieter than others. and some sounded like it was recorded in a different area that was more echoey. theres really nothing bad to say about it :) a solid entry although i don't think it meets the theme as it is just a point and click adventure game. but its still good :)

Hey, I played the whole game and had a lot of fun (I lost, by the way haha). I really like point and clicks. You achieved incredible results for a one weekend jam. Congratulations to the whole team for pulling this off. The one and only thing I could say I didn't really like was the inconsistency in recording and output levels for the voice. However, you did have voice acting which is really commendable. Oh, and I almost forgot...you had saving and loading options (which I didn't try). Thanks for the experience! PS: I'll play it again to get the good ending. *cracking knuckles* Let's do this!

Saw your comment on our game, and I agree - it's tough to get story-based games off the ground in 72 hours, and it's harder to do that in a non-linear story. Yours is a pretty impressive example of when a story-based jam game works. I appreciate that you included voice acting consistently; I didn't notice any NPCs who didn't speak, which helps to keep the mood intact.
I'd also say that you did a good job with choosing the right scope. There are bits of the typical game-jam clunkiness - nothing happens when you click "castle" from the courtyard, and the main character occasionally walks around in an odd way - but there are far fewer issues in your game than most, especially given how much content there is. Well done!
Really ambitious project for a jam game, i really adore you for the try. You made pretty long game with a lot of content in a small period of time, and that deserves a lot of appreciation. You even made some filler reactions to background items. But sadly i will say that it wasn't much fun to play for me. Puzzles in adventure game should not be so linear. If you can complete most of your adventure game without even exploring every accessible scene beforehand, you are doing something wrong. And maybe i'm wrong, but i think the chess puzzle has wrong solution actually. If you put White Queen right before the Black King, Black King can just eat the Queen, because it's not defended. It's a Π‘heck, but not a Mate. Nevertheless, great work on every other aspect of the game.
So well done. I am very impressed.
@Brendan Toy Yeah we wanted a few more puzzles in but didn't have time to make them all so some of it was a bit simpler.
@corc0 thanks for the castle find, we really tried to not have any non-clickable objects, will put it on the update list
@Annie Owl Yeah I agree that the puzzles are too easy, it's our first time making an adventure game though, and we would rather many people can finish it than make it too hard so people don't make it through, since they will be trying many games. I think the chess puzzle should be correct tho, the correct move is (spoiler) queen-two steps forward, then queen-one step right to take rook.
I'm really happy that so many people completed the game @Brendan Toy @corc0 @Zetre etc, but I'm sad you all got the dark ending.. I wouldn't say you lost tho, there are just multiple endings :smile:

The voice acting was convincing (especially the main character !), some of them were sadly too low. The graphics does just what we ask them, the music is perfectly fitting, and you have some really inspired and sometimes funny dialogs π
It's impressive that you brought us a long game with such content, great job to all the team, you deserve it π
It is a good game, not very innovative but good. I love how the spirit tell you to go out of the room so she can appear (funny way to save some animations :D).
Yay, I've always wanted summon some darkness. I am amazed that this can be done in 3 days only, it is missing some polish (especially the walking sequence) but I can't complain given the incredible amount of work needed in so little time. The story was funny and relatable (no I am not wizard but I am a master in the arts of failure too). The voice acting was nice but it needs some editing to make the volumes feel similar. I still couldn't solve that chess puzzle but she will be fine, I think ghost don't need to worry about starving due to bankruptcy. I also would like to praise the music which was so great. Excellent work.

Sooo, the bad first : I founded some art inconsistent like the main character was nice but some background or characters looked strange just next to the main, same with voice
Then the good : Well I have finished the game and I didn't expect me to go so far, the potion and the chess part was fun to get I was like "dude I have remember the spell and even reoder it ??? How ?" But I did it and was so glad. The music setup a gud mood and I have a great experience :D Impressive to see you've done this much ! Thanks and good job all team !

Excellent work. Some of the voice acting was a little quiet or odd but some of it was really good. The art was great. The game seemed fairly fleshed out even for how small it is considering the time it was made in. I didn't beat the game but I played it for quite some time. Nice job! Amazing graphics, I didn't expect the game to be fully voiced. I'm impressed. The spirit asking you to leave the room is a nice touch. The character tends to moonwalk a bit too much though ;)

I liked it a lot! It was a very ambitious project and in many aspects I think you nailed it. The sound volume varied a lot among the characters' voices and the chess part was really confusing (and I'm a chess player). The quality of the acting also varied a lot. When the girl was pulling off a twig it sounded very sexual and totally out of context. Other than that, it's a sweet and interesting world with a lot of potencial. At one point the character moonwalked and it was very funny! I checked the middleware you used and $70 is very expensive!
All in all, a great entry. Congratulations to everyone involved!

You made a huge work. Well done. Maybe, you could improve the sound mixing. Some voice line levels were really lower than others.
Thanks all! @Reality Blind @Yetman @Cole and Jordan Studios @gdort @DjeyCreations It seems like the voice volume is one of the biggest issues people have and I'm sorry for that. We were all first time voice actors/recorders, and some of it was done with different setups, also Alidas cast got sick at the end but wanted to finish so she lay on the floor for the last of her recordings. We should definitely get this balanced out.
@Narudgi I'm so glad you managed to get it right, I think you are the first to report that you finished with the happy ending :D
@smatcher Also the moon walking is due to us not having time to finish the walk in/out animation in time. Hopefully we will get this into a post-jam version.
@Annie Owl @AdVd Thanks for pointing that out! They do look quite similar. I realized too that they did look a bit similar, but it was too late and our artist had gone home already. I'll definitely put this on the list to be fixed though.
@gdort Yeah like many Unity tools it's a bit expensive (one of the many reasons I don't like unity tbh), but it was quite a good tool for making this type of game. I guess it's a very niche tool so they probably don't have very many sales, thus the price has to be higher. If I make any more games like this tho, I'm very tempted to build my own tools for it from scatch.. but then again I'm a bit of a tool coding junkie :D

This is an incredible amount of work for a game jam game. The visuals are great, and I'm really impressed that you managed to get full voice acting done. I wish it could have been a little less linear, like I don't see why the player can't work on preparing for the dream reading and alchemy trials at the same time. On the whole, this is fantastic!
I am curious, how were you planning on implementing board game elements?
* Half the fun of these games is finding what the main character has to say about random things. I think my favorite was "I am NOT putting a dead fish in my pocket" followed by "That window must be expensive" :smile: * Some of the title text is cut off on my 1920x1200 monitor; Consider letterboxing instead of filling? * Mrs. Wolf, Mr. Wolf, four sons, one daughter: that adds up to seven, doesn't it? I feel like I must be really bad at riddles :smile: * I thought the first hint for the spell the ancestor gives you was to swap the first and last parts, like Lugi's instructions on the summoning spell :slight_frown: * The art style was great, it was like a king's quest game made by studio ghibli :thumbsup: * I got two endings; is there a third? I want to know what's behind the locked door! :smile:

Wow! For as ambitions as a game of this nature is, you pulled this off in 72 hours and you pulled it off well! Great work on the art, the voice acting, and all the fun little scripts that give a game like this character ! Wonderful submission!
I really admire large teams that can perform in LDs since we are one ourselves and I know how hard it is to coordinate everything, so grats on making such a polished game. I'm curious what the breakdown of artists and writers there were? Seems like there was so much work on every front I can't even think about how you'd split up your team like that.
The background art is outstanding!
The common RPG issue of very slow dialogue and voice acting cropped up but you probably know that. For some reason the game got quite laggy after a while, too.
The subtitle font was super hard to read for me on a 1680x1050 screen. I think a solid background for it might help, or possibly a different font.
