Wow! Nice idea and really well executed! Great game all around.

croewens 2018-04-24 12:14

I bookmarked this. Game feels, looks and sounds great! In my top 5 :)

blu3bird 2018-04-24 12:26

Both my enter key and keypad enter key trigger player 1's start button.. Bookmarked, will be back when I dig out a game pad.

elhombrebanana 2018-04-24 12:34

HOLY SHIT THE MUSIC SIR I LOVE IT

You got a great game concept there, seriously, congratulations!

kensou 2018-04-24 12:35

Game title is awesome. Card figthing awesome, art awesome, i like it

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2018-04-24 12:37

@woergbi @croewens @kensou Thanks ! We'll go and try your games !

@blu3bird We're working to make a fix for that right now, thanks for the feedback !

@elhombrebanana Thanks :) We'll probably release the tracks in a few days and talk about that in some post mortems, as we did for Den : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/den/den-postmortem-4-the-beast-the-music-and-the-sound-effects

jcwelgemoed 2018-04-24 12:39

absolutely awesome. nothing more to add

juju 2018-04-24 13:00

Simply amazing. You guys should invest in this game. Make a full version or something.

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2018-04-24 13:43

@jcwelgemoed @juju Thank you so much guys !

We have on paper a lot of ideas to go further with this game, but we limited its scope to fit in the time and have a functionnal primary gameplay. So we'll totally think about continuing development depending on your feedbacks !

(We quickly made a single player mode to release today, that didn't fit on the 3AM jam deadline. We're spectating right now two IA fighting each other :)

gvs 2018-04-24 16:17

Really nice and polished game. Very well done!

greymouth 2018-04-24 16:32

Amazing execution! Would love to see a game like this fully developed into something bigger! Loved it!

carvster 2018-04-24 17:23

Well polished and well executed, little clunky on keyboard!

samupo 2018-04-24 17:54

Great game. Graphics are awesome and the game feels polished. A step by step tutorial might come in handy for new players, though.

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2018-04-24 18:12

@gvs, @greymouth Thanks!

@carvster Thanks! The keyboard controls are indeed less worked than their controllers counterparts. Do you remember what kind of clunkyness you saw ?

@samupo You're totally right. We tried this time to build a gameplay/system with more depth, allowing replayability and experience building, and as a result a tutorial/training would be needed for players not at ease with the versus fighting games core concepts. It was on our todo list but we didn't had time to implement that correctly :)

lectvs 2018-04-24 20:45

What's good: It's polished and professional-looking. Graphics and audio were stellar, and the controls felt responsive and intuitive.

What could be better: A tutorial of some kind would be nice. It takes a while to get used to the flow of the game, with so much information being thrown at you and so little time to make strategic decisions.

The AI for 1P might be a *little* too good, but I think this would be more fun if I had another person to play with!

hannah 2018-04-24 21:19

This is really nicely done. It fits the theme well and feels very slick - can see it getting quite addictive.

bomb-x 2018-04-24 21:48

Hate d'avoir un copain et deux manettes sous la main pour tester ça !! Très jolie et le gameplay donne envie :)

wallie 2018-04-24 21:56

Awesome graphics, good game, looks and feels well polished. Very well done!

dkdwrek 2018-04-24 22:28

Very well done entry! Graphics, music and sound effects were on point.

Would love some additional keybindings for PC.

kilosaurus 2018-04-24 22:45

@dkdwrek key bindings for pc are detailed in the post, sorry for not showing them in the game

merrol 2018-04-24 23:48

Such an amazing game. I don't know if I have anything wrong to say... I guess maybe the learning curve at the start is a bit steep, I couldn't figure out how to play it at first. But it's a really cool game for a jam. Really good job :ok_hand:

ekkoekko 2018-04-25 04:53

Very Cool Graphics i didnt imagine that you made it for only 3 days. Cooooooooool!!!!! Good job.

2018-04-25 06:48

I love the card names !

pranjalbisht 2018-04-25 11:38

A little hard to get into, but this was an amazing experience. So fast paced, and you had to keep track of so many things! But after a while I genuinely started enjoying it. Awesome mechanics. And ofc, art and music were pretty good as well, and hilarious sfx! I double-KO'd with the AI...looking forward to playing this with my friends!

atelier-duchu 2018-04-25 12:02

Hey, really nice graphic, i like that combination!

kilosaurus 2018-04-25 12:35

@pranjalbisht Yeah we knew making it that the mechanics where complex as we copied it on Fighting games frames data (like https://fullmeter.com/fatonline/#/framedata/Ryu). And we couldnt make a step by step tutorial in the weekend, but thank you for taking the time to overpass this difficulty gap. We made our best to make this investment worth.

honey 2018-04-25 14:14

Is there anything you wanted to do differently or didn't make in time? Cause it doesn't seem like so to me, feels pretty much finished and pretty deep and complex gameplay :) Just had some trouble controlling it on keyboard (block sometimes doesn't get noticed, no idea why), but apart from that, I had some serious fun! Thank you for that!

PS: Maybe just one thing - allow player to rebind keys, a bit uncomfy playing on qwertz keyboard with Y down the left shift ;)

merzlot 2018-04-25 14:18

Wow, that is very impressive! Cool graphics, hilarious sounds, very stylish and clean game. Amazing job! Congratulations!

nash 2018-04-25 14:21

Very good and impressive presentation. Even though it took me quite a while to understand what on earth is going on, it was still a nice game.

Love the polish and love put into this game!

goat-toaster-games 2018-04-25 14:26

Haha this was so brilliant omg. The art and sfx especially! Loved it!

rockhoppergames 2018-04-25 14:27

Wow, this was a wild ride! With the timer on each turn, a more structured tutorial would probably go a long way to help players learn the game. As it is, I really had to push my mind to figure out how I was supposed to be playing! Of course, tutorials are one of the hardest things to fit in the jam period, but given how much polish the rest of the game has, that's the only thing left I can recommend improving! A very solid entry!

fabian-pohl 2018-04-25 16:20

Holyshit art and sound are great. Also gameplay is good. This is so damn polished for 3 days.

hagamosvideojuegos 2018-04-25 17:58

Wow! Great game! Really this can be a commercial game with more characters and cards, good work! ;)

honest-dan 2018-04-25 18:01

Visuals are really great - sets the tone. Really nice illustrations to help explain the cards. I found it very overwhelming to begin with, and even once I got a grasp of whats going on, I think the pace of seemed a bit fast. HOWEVER, that was the intention, to merge the fighting game with a card base game. I think the genres do conflict, as card play and cooldowns means you cant use the punches and kicks as you please, and the pace of the fighting games makes it hard to plan your attacks with cards. Due to jam, understand there's no tutorial, but a game like this would really benefit from such a thing! Good effort champs!

drell 2018-04-25 18:04

Really enjoyed what y'all came up with :) Art and Audio combined with the genres made for a really cool game! Good job on adding a single player mode!

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2018-04-25 18:36

@pranjalbisht congrats for the double ko, not everyone on the team reached that :p

@honey Some important things didn't fit in time of course :) Above all, as everyone said rightly, such game require a strong tutorial, even if the initial overwhelming feel is strongly attached to what we wanted (and what made us laugh when designing the "few-seconds-to-think slightly-no-enough-to-plan" side of the game), but we had to drop it definitively a few hours before deadline. Some important mechanics didn't made it too, like character position related ones. But we were pretty close on overall.

@hagamosvideojuegos Thanks ! Indeed, apart for the missing gameplay features and balancing, room for numerous characters/cards/environments has been planned and coded from the start and would now mainly require a lot of art production, bot that's at the top of the list !

@honest-dan Thanks for the live test !

@atelier-duchu @merzlot @nash @goat-toaster-games @fabian-pohl @drell Thanks a lot !

amazura 2018-04-25 22:35

wow.. the graphic and sound are really good, I really admire your work. I find that this game is fun and enjoyable for me. after all, Nice work for this awesome game :D

saintheiser 2018-04-26 17:09

Played 5 times and still can't anderstand what happens on the screen. Just total chaos. Looks like I should spent hors to figure out something =( Visually game looks great! Genres combinations are sweet and unique, well done! Audio is pretty funny and make me smile while playing. Gof job, maybe I'll return to this game later.

benpeterson 2018-04-26 18:41

Wow this is brilliant, the only thing I don't understand is why / how the ai can use shield to block my attacks, I always think I'm going to land one of the big five step cooldown ones and then they block ti

This is just so crazy polished and satisfying great job

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-04-27 13:05

Good job! Cool game!

Need tutorial. I could not understand how to know how much life each player has. I do not like card games very much, but this one I thought was fantastic.

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/witchs-escape

morrilet 2018-04-28 21:56

This was really cool but it was SUPER hard to learn. The instructions page helped a bit, but I couldn't go back or exit a match to check it again. I also feel that the fight timer went REALLY fast. Maybe if the players had to mutually end their turns to progress it would've been easier to learn the ropes. I think that the gameplay was clever, though, and the presentation was on point. Great work!

Edit: Maybe some sort of tutorial fight would be helpful, too? Something with predetermined card draws and an AI built to lose if the player takes the right (guided) steps?

minibobbo 2018-04-29 05:04

It was hard to learn, but I feel like a lot of these types of games are. There is a lot of strategic depth here and the art and card names were great. I was losing track of all the things that I could do.

Maybe if you added the option of setting the round time? So when you are first starting out and learning the cards, controls and how to play you could have longer to decide what to do? Then later you could speed up the rounds? It might make the game more approachable.

csanyk 2018-04-29 20:28

Really weird game. I feel like there's definitely a learning curve to overcome, but probably because I've never played a card fighter before. Understanding the controls did not come intuitively, but if there was a tutorial mode, and maybe gamepad support, I could see this being hugely fun, especially for people who are into MtG or similar games. I'm amazed at how much game you crafted in such a short time. Kudos!

darkphnx 2018-05-01 01:19

Incredibly polished game! The learning curve feels a bit steep to jump into, but there's an impressive amount of depth to this game. Good job all around!

linkwin 2018-05-12 04:13

Feels really good with a gamepad. Th game balance seems a bit off, I got stuck with an AI the just drained the clock by blocking everything. I really enjoyed the art and animations and the fast pace is great, I really had fun playing this. Definitely needs tutorial levels. It was hard to remember what each number meant.
