Fun game, definitely Michael Bay approved.
Interesting mechanic!
intresting mechanic... not sure why you need to press the mouse button down... only reason to release it would be to click on the bomb
The mechanic is pretty curious, though I must say I sucked at playing it ^^'
What an interesting mechanic, would be nice if you add some different buildings (different sizes). Good job!
Good job doing the swiping mechanic! There's a bit of a broken strategy of just holding the mouse button done while swiping left and right constantly. Audio is a little unbalanced (the ending is kind of harsh) and the graphics feel a little mismatched.
The swipe mechanic is really well implemented, congratulations!
Swipe mechanic is very nice. And the audio 5/5 I particularly liked it.
hard to play, but a nice game
I'm not sure it really had anything to do with the theme really, honestly though I'd have to say the opposite. Swiping isn't even needed, I just held my mouse don where things pop up, they blew up anyways, so it's just click about where the buildings are and they vanish, and as another guy said, the audio balance on the final sound effect is rough.
Look at me I'm swiping like crazy!
Hi nice game. Easy to understand. Was able to get 800 with laptop touch pad. I held the mouse down and swiped vertically down the buildings.
Very fun and fast paced. LOVE IT
Nice little game! :) My high score was 730, but this is most likely because I am playing on a TrackPoint. The music really helped with the pace of the game, and I liked it too. A small problem would be that, at first, I pressed the play button, without reading the tutorial, so I did not understand at first what I had to do. Maybe in the future you could integrate the tutorial in the gameplay, without making a special button? I don't know. Anyways, good job for making the game! :D
I really like the music and sound effects. Well done! The game itself was fun to play. Got a score of ~1.300 and enjoyed it!
Nice intro/UI and gameplay feedback (sounds, camera shake, effects). I like that everything feels well-packaged and finished!
I like the theme and swiping mechanic. What was your process for coming up with the story and gameplay?
Some ideas to make the world feel more consistent: * Buildings blocks appear on existing stacks (rather than flying up). * Swipe construction workers to halt progress on that building. * Use the bomb to clear the stage (or remove 80% of the existing buildings).
Well done overall!
Easy to play and easy to learn. It needs more explosions.
@fre I was inspired by a city like Benidorm in Spain, where it was allowed to build too many huge buildings almost inside the beach, blocking views, and making it look pretty ugly. I think most people prefer to preserve natural creations rather than that, but yeah. Thanks for bringing to us your ideas!
I really liked it! Definitely not my kind of game, but this was very fun. The music was very appropriate: stressful, but happy. Not too difficult, which is *perfect* for a noob like me. The super-bomb is very satisfying to use. I didn't really see the theme of "sacrifice" in your gameplay, though. Otherwise I've nothing to complain, you did a great job.
Fun game, easy to understand, the artistic direction (graphics, music) is coherent. It does the job and it does it well!
This game was really fun to play! I loved the audio. A couple things that I would say is that I feel that the game is a bit of a stretch on the theme. I think there needs to be some idea that what the user is doing is a sacrifice (rather than just being, "swipey swipey"). Maybe the developers get mad at you or something. I thought that the swipe mechanic was cool, and was well implemented, but sometimes I can just hold my mouse in the path of a building and destroy it by barely moving. Also, the powerups are very useful, but it was unnatural for me to move my mouse all the way up to the corner to click a button. Perhaps using right click would be better. However, I thought you guys did a good job with this, especially for the time that you had!
Interesting! Reminds me of Fruit Ninja! Never thought I'd be slicing up buildings right now!! Well done!!
Like the sound effects! Alittle bit of fruit ninja...what is the sacrifice? Great work, keep going!!
Very quick to get into. A very silly setting. The hit detection was sometimes off.
very fun. Could be super great on a tablet. Nice work!
I appreciated bouncing the water sprite to help simulate the exploding of the bomb! I think it could be nice to have a keyboard shortcut for the bomb, but I can understand if you wanted to keep it mouse only to make going for the bomb a little riskier as you have to plan to get it in advance before buildings get too high.
I think it could be nice to change the swiping to only destroy buildings if you do a horizontal swipe across the whole building, right now you can go vertically down the building which seems to be easier since the hitbox is larger that way, but it doesn't work as well thematically.
The score system and menus are nice!
Overall this was a good entry!
Interesting concept, i liked it! The explosion is a little confusing -- are the waves going up in the background?
Overall, Cool game! Very unique from other stuff ive seen.
Nice entry. Good idea. the kind of gameplay that would work very on a smartphone
If it needed a swipe, this would be more challenging. how it is now is too easy, just swipe up and down and you'll hit everything.
Great game. It gets really fun with all the chaos, haha. I definitely did have a bit of an issue with getting the swipe to register a few times, but overall it was a really neat game!
firstly i just convused what i have to do with the building or floor, but after some play i manage to hold for a moment i kind of suck with the game that not turn based hahah. but this game is fun to play game. Graphics and the music is good. But for the theme i still cant find what sacrifice tha been made , but overall good gamne. ^^
Swiping with the mouse doesn't work very well and I didn't understand what to do at first (but I checked the tutorial!). But after you get it it's quite fun :-)
Interesting mecanics, great ambiance with musics, maybe a little hard to play/too fast? and too much with a trackpad. (my first try...) A good Mouse is really recommended.
@rikun, as the descriptions; the sacrifice is to kill people by avoiding that their buildings from rising too high.
Nice and addictive game! Well played !
Interesting mechanninc, didn't expect a videogame like that...
Simple and effective, but I don't really see the theme
A nice game, though I sucked at it (tried 3 runs, died at 1.5k score points) Music fits quite well, but I fail to see the theme, don't know... Good job, anyway.

Game is decent, just not sure why you have to continually hold down the mouse button. Just cut automatically in my opinion. Also it does fit the theme very well. Would work on mobile well. Also maybe add a button on the keyboard to explode rather than having to click the button in the corner
@johnnyginard OMG! How did you do it, bro!!!so amazing!!!
meme.jpg
Nice job guys, love the feeling of crushing some real estate speculation in the coast! Couldn't get over the 2K mark in score though, 10K seems impossible for my lousy mouse skills ;) Congrats on the entry!
I got a 1450 score in the second try. This could make a mobile game, guess there are couple of them like this. I would say a free-cutting or somehow less limited cutting mechanic could make a more enjoyable game. Anyway I like the simplicity of it. Not a fan of music and graphics. Sorry!
Very cool idea! Good job! :top:
Fun game!!! I did 5670 points! Good luck!
really liked it
Fun game, I got about 7400 or so. This would make a good mobile game as swiping with the mouse is a little bit difficult. It would be neat to see a few power ups. I thinl it might be more intuitive to swipe the power ups instead of clicking or tapping them.
Building Ninja? I can dig it
It would make a good mobile with more time and polishing! As of improvement, what if you make it more rewarding? Like giving the player more scoring if he precisely cut the glowing line without hitting the non cuttable ones, for example! Maybe also adding power-ups and juicy sounds/animations when you successfully cut the building, it could do great. What do you think? Nice work, tho. Keep it up :))
Intro music is awesome. Game is fun and addictive. Very nice!
1040 points. Nice game, but i personally don't see how this relates to the theme. Am i missing something?
Good job guys. Always enjoy team-made Ludum Dare games. Love the music and it was the right amount of play time and content for me personally on a Ludum Dare game. I really couldn't figure out what to do though until like my 5th playthrough. Then I was starting to pick up you click or swipe the colored lines and nowhere else. I only got up to 1,500 points so no record posting for me (T_T)
Congratulations, creative idea. A crazy game
The mood is truly the strong point of the game. It is super frantic! The concept, though, didn't really seem to fit the theme though. I wish there was more going on, because as it stands I can just swipe back and forth at the bottom of the screen and do really well. It was awkward having to hold down the mouse button when there is really no reason ever not to, I have the same problem with something like mario kart where you almost never want to stop accelerating or shmups where you never want to stop shooting.
o jogo é criativo nao posso negar isso o audio tambem mostra algo alegre e empolgante parabens.
Holy moly was that intense! *explosions* Great job!
Amazing game with cool graphics!)
It was very hard to achieve the goal of 3000 points :) Generally, very simple and pretty game at the same time, I enjoyed the explosion sound and effect, and the game is balanced enough not to leave the game in a short time
Creative mechanic with intense gameplay, very enjoyable. great job!
This defo is a game that needs skill to play. I found that I was 10X better playing this game on my IPS screen. Bearing in mind, it only took 24 hours - its very impressive. Any plans for a slow easy mode for casuals like me?
Nice game! Good luck!
Easy to understand ! It escalates very quickly tho :p
Good game for the small amout of time you had !!!!
Tricky with a mouse but not too bad once you get the hang of it!
fum and interesting game. Nice work👍
All of the buildings give you +10 points, I think the colour of the bar on the building should correlate to the amount of points you get for that type of building (example: red = 10 pts, green = 20, blue = 30), also, if you destroy more than 1 building at once you should get a multiplier or something, just an idea. I think the music is really good, along with the power up bomb thing, that's really cool, nice job guys. I also couldn't find any bugs, no matter how hard i tried, so really good job on that!
@matthewjd389 That's definitely something we would love to implement in a future version of the game. Thanks for your feedback!
Great game in so small amount of time
Well done
I love your game! It's really dynamic, and easy to play (em... at least rules are easy :P). But how have you managed to reach 14k in score? This is crazy xD I try and try, and I'm not even close to this so high score :P (And I even didn't reach score over 3k - but I was close! :P) score2.png
The story is super funny and real! While living near the see I would love to have such kind of weapon ;-) Maybe a slower speed at the beginning of the game, would make it easier to start with! Good job!
I really wanted to know how this idea came about lol, all very strange, and I liked it. The audios definitely was what pleased me the most, but the gameplay was also very fun, my best score was 3800. Good job!
Simple idea, but very fun to play, I like it.
Great game. Really enjoy it !!!!
My only issue with it is that there is no keybinding for the bomb special ability (or I couldn't find it). Clicking on the button is way too slow as usually when you need it you are close to dying. Good job!
Nice, small game with simple mechanics. Music and art are good, I just wish there was more to the gameplay than holding the left mouse and shaking like crazy(and the occasional bomb you can use).
Hmm, concept is easy to get right away, so that's cool. Good production value - menu, sounds, and music are really nice, and I like the visuals on the the swipe effect and bomb. I would have liked more oomph to the actual building-slicing though. Maybe some rubble noise, or the sprite actually cutting off and falling away (perhaps comically building up in the background?). Nice job overall!
Definitely an eye-catching game and concept. I highly doubt I'll see another game with this theme for the rest of the jam.
Really fun game that manages to create tense situations in a really short timespan and simple mechanics ! I had a great time.
Pros : - Simple concept, thematically adequate and extremely fun. - Nice graphics and audio that bring something to the fun mood - Addictive scoring mechanic
Cons : - Some kind of visual feedback (or more visible indications that you should only slide the colored lines) would help
Overall, great work !
Trying people to get to 10k score. That is a good goal for players. Good idea and good game 😄
I loved the game, I could not get past 2000 points. The introduction got really good and it would look great on smartphones
Addictive and fun.
Tips: I've played with the stylus of my graphic tablet. It was easier than with a mouse
Well, 6k score ! Concept was simple yet effective. It could use some additional feedbacks and GFX (Clicking on the bomb button was so much more satisfying than seeing building parts just disappear), and you could maybe tone down the sound a bit. Anyway, good job !
Cool mechanic! My score was 1120, not as high as the others here, but I loved the simplicity and the very short and concise tutorial that doesn't try to over-explain with wordiness.
I don't know if a shortcut key to trigger the bomb would be good to have. Since the player's cursor and mouse are preoccupied with the swiping, having a separate keyboard shortcut to trigger the bomb would have minimized the need to break the flow.
I'm not sure if you tried this, but if you wanted to adhere to the theme more, you could add sounds of people screaming (but not too much) and possibly people jumping off the sides of the building as it is being destroyed (again, does not need to be very big). The people jumping off does not only add a sense of you visibly sacrificing people, but also add an additional layer of visual feedback to the game and makes it feel rewarding for destroying the buildings. Personally that would make the game feel a lot better. However, I understand that you didn't have a lot of time for the jam, so keep it up!
I also think you had a nice tip in the comment to say to slice vertically. I think this tip could be added as text in the game's end screen after 1 or 2 losses, as reading that tip actually gave me the incentive to push for a better score now that I knew how to better "exploit" the mechanic :) Haha, of course that is only if it's your intention. It's a really nice game already.
Clean and simple game-play. I thought the bomb mechanic was a good touch. I would've enjoyed a bit more forgiving game-play, or at least an option to have floors that can be missed without ending the game. Overall, great submission!
Nice game! I wish there was a mobile build since it seems more fitting as a mobile game with the swipe mechanics. I felt the tutorial could have been more intuitive, or some explanation given, since I spent some time trying to figure how to actually play the game (you have to swipe with the mouse down and "cut" the colored lines for anyone reading the comments). Also, I think it might be better if holding the mouse down wasn't a requirement i.e. just swiping your mouse should be enough. Overall good entry though!
That was fun. I didn't even notice the bomb at all until my second play through... would be nice if there was a key for it, as my fingers were so busy swiping I couldn't even hit it.
I think what would have made things better is some form of lives or powerups or things you could do - imagine little seagulls that you could swipe through for some powerups or something like that (keeping in theme).
Nice
I've hit the comment length, so this is a multi-part post. Sorry for the massive text wall.
Alright, here’s my takeaway.
I’m going to have to list the major issues before I can explain the mechanics and whether they’re fun or not. So, without further ado: • The controls are annoying because you can only damage tiny slivers of the buildings which are horizontal, not vertical. In a tiny window with a horizontal aspect ratio, swiping horizontally only feels natural, but vertical feels stilted and boring. • The loss condition also felt super arbitrary, especially since most of the hitboxes were on the bottom of the buildings. • Tiny issue: Pausing the game doesn’t stop buildings from spawning, so if you pause and come back, every single row will fill with buildings. • The difficulty was all over the place. Normally, you’re supposed to use a difficulty curve that allows players to pick up the game and get used to the difficulty slowly without ever feeling like they’re being babied or that the game is punishing. However, this game completely misses the correct curve. For the first 30 seconds, it feels way too easy, whether this was the first play-through or the last. From about 30-40 seconds, it seems just about right. Then after that, it becomes a nightmare to use, and the difficulty serves more to beat the player over the head than to provide the player with engaging challenge. • You placed the bomb powerup in the upper left corner of the screen and made it a button you have to press. That causes two issues. One, it’s not apparent that the button is even a button, and I had no idea that you were supposed to press it until I saw your comment at the bottom of the Itch.io page. Two, the button requires the player to move his mouse away from the game field and press it, and even though it has no consequences, it still feels terrible, especially since it would have been quite easy to make right click trigger the bomb instead. • Finally, the tutorial is terrible. It tells you very little about the game and uses an image that doesn’t even try to represent gameplay. Heck, even the images and description did little to explain the mechanics, and that’s assuming that the player will read those (not a good assumption)! You need to include a good explanation of the game, even if it requires a wall of text at the beginning of the game (which is not something I would recommend, but it’s better than nothing). I spent the first 3 games trying to figure out what on earth I was supposed to do. Phoo! That’s a lotta issues. Anyway, here’s a summary. There are a LOT of root-level issues that are a result of some bad design choices. The game is not fun. I wish I could say it was, and there are a lot of times where I can squeeze something fun out of a game, but in this game, the only fun is provided by the other aspects of the game: graphics, audio, and other stuff. Sadly, this will only get you so far. My rating: 2 stars.
Innovation… Hmm… I’m sorry, but I just don’t see any. My rating: 1 star.
Heck, this is a really interesting interpretation of the theme! I’m happy to see some uniqueness here, especially since this theme is very restrictive against creative innovations! My rating: 5 stars.
The graphics are quite interesting! The 2D view of the 3D landscape allowed you to add some neat effects, such as the bomb, the grass, and other visual niceties. However, this is where the trouble begins. Every single bit of terrain and vegetation in that scene is from the unity standard assets, as well as the bomb explosion effects. I also can’t tell if the water, skybox, or buildings are unique, but they certainly don’t seem like they were made for this jam. The UI elements also look nice, but again, I cannot tell if they are made for the jam. This raises a very important issue. If all, most, or a significant portion of your art was premade or downloaded from the internet, that means that you must opt out of the graphics category, according to the rules. I don’t want to be calling any names here, but if you don’t want to get on the bad side of the rulebook, I suggest that you opt out of graphics. With that out of the way, I also noticed a lot of random visual bugs. There’s even one featured in the gif at the top of your game page: the water is freaking out in the background every time you trigger a bomb. I’m going to rate you a 1 star in this category until you can confirm whether the art is original or now, but for reference, my rating would be 3 stars if either the UI elements or the models are original, and 4 stars if both.
I can hear a lot of audio that isn’t original in this game. The seagulls and ocean effects at the end are, without a doubt, from somewhere on the internet, and the main menu is only slightly less obvious. The UI element and the bomb explosion sounds are unoriginal. The in-game music is hard to tell, but my guess is that it’s a mix of several different, unoriginal loops. Not to mention that it’s super loud and sounds terrible in the middle with a lot of clashing instruments (although the beginning sounds great). Heck, even the tower swipe noise is both awful AND unoriginal! It doesn’t get much worse than that! I can understand and even respect a little asset usage (or a lot if necessary) if the user is respectful of the Ludum Dare rules, but right now, you haven’t opted out of the category. I’m going to rate this a 1 star until you opt out of the category, because right now, this is cheating people who legitimately worked hard on their audio out of a higher placement.
Humor. Nada. My rating: 1 star.
The mood was inconsistent at best, and immersion-breaking most of the time. The audio, graphics, and gameplay are all inconsistent and serve more to prove that the game is an asset dump than to make a good mood and experience. As if the transition in music mood from the main menu to the game and to the death screen don’t speak for themselves. My rating: 1.5 stars.
Overall, I was really disappointed by this entry. It seemed interesting and looks like it had some time and effort put into it, but under the surface, it’s really just an asset dump in disguise. It only adds insult to injury when the creator doesn’t even bother to respectfully opt out of categories. Even if you take the art and sound away, the gameplay is boring and dysfunctional. I wish I had more good things to say, but I just don’t. My rating: 2 stars.
Also, a tiny little nitpick: Why is it named Venus? There are no relations between the name and the game. I mean, you couldn’t have just picked something super cheesy and used that? My second ludum dare entry was named “The not-so correct platformer,” which is an awful name, but it’s at least representative of the game. There’s no reason to call the game Venus. You might as well have named it Potato or Excel Spreadsheet.
Cheers, The Koala Squad.
@koala-squad First, thank you for taking your time to give us feedback about the game, probably you have put more time into that than the amount we had to develop the game in the jam. Jokes aside, we are already aware of many of the things you said but, once again, the time resources were so limited that we had to make cuts where we could in order to reach the deadline, and this applies to everyone that joins the Ludum.
I will gladly answer to some of the statements you made that worry me the most and that are not a point of view. But first, I am happy to se that you really liked the theme!
The game was made playable on HTML5 as it has the best accessibility for everyone, however, as many others say in the comments, they know that it is much best suited for mobile or simply a touch screen, you may take that into consideration. Many games are made for trial-and-error, and as far as I am concerned, the streamers that played my game or even the testers, understood the game like in your case, in about three attempts. I do not see that it really matters to lose your first 3 games in only 10 seconds to play another one consecutively to end up understanding its simple and only mechanic, I have seen much worse wastes of time.
Regarding the artistic branch, we had a dedicated artist for that job and we are very proud of her work. Same goes for the music. There are multiple platforms were you can compose your piece digitally and thus, creating your own content without having to rely on purchasing real instruments, learning to play them or even hiring musicians when the plan is to make a game with no budget in 3 days.
I would like to remark that the games made in an event like a gamejam should not be placed out of their context, where the main goal are not profits, but learning and gaining experience. But, do not get me wrong, the first person I would love to have writing a review of a full production game of mine would be clearly you! :)
To finish up, I do not understand what you mean by "Venus", the game is called "Views" which I believe it IS enough representative for the game.
Cheers, Arnau
@arnau I'm glad to see that you made the art and music yourself! Thus, I'll be giving them 3.5 and 3 star rating respectively, which bumps the overall score up to a 3 star rating. I especially like the UI elements, although the vegetation is still from the Unity standard assets, and while the menu music and beginning of the game music are good, they lack thematic ties to each other, and the instruments clash still in the middle. Good job!
Sorry about the venus thing! I misread the title, and was a little brain-shot by the time I finished that post.
Hey, very interesting entry. It fits very well with the theme and made me think about overpopulation. I specially liked the menus and how you created very well in a very solid and consistent way. The game ide is interesting, but I found this a little bit easy to play. Maybe if you add some kind of blocks that we can't cut it will help a lot. Congratulations!
I like how you turned the theme in something twisted like that  It's fun, adictive and the graphics are pretty nice. The only downside I can see is that you can't make "combos" when you cut multiple buildings in a short amount of time / with one slice.
Piu-piu-piu!
