Puhh, this is quite hard. I played till level 6, then I gave up. The only complaint I have is that sometimes you get a color for which you don't have any viable targets. This is even more frustrating when it happens multiple times in a row.

Otherwise it's a solid game.

howardcs 2017-05-01 21:33

@dagegen Yeah, if I continue to develop this it should definitely do more to reward skill and reduce the luck required. Thanks for the feedback.

richard-michael-smith 2017-05-01 23:58

Like @dagegen said - it's very frustrating when you keep getting colours that are no use to you BUT having said that, I agree with him that it's a solid game. Nice work.

howardcs 2017-05-02 04:11

@richard-michael-smith Thanks.

slowian 2017-05-02 12:53

Fun game, with good mechanics idea. If you are going to continue development, I want to suggest a few ideas: * the level score can be added for destroyed planets, with score multiplier for combo of multiple planets destroyed with single one. * after destroying planet there could be a chance for it to drop a pickup with a special astronomical objects - for example, asteroid that will destroy all planets in line, comet that will create a small fire wave after hitting planet that will destroy adjucent ones, planet with moon that will destroy 3 lines at once * different astronomical objects can be used to change level properties, for example sun that needs to be cooled down by firing ice planets at it, big planets with gravity, that will pull the planets, and could be used to change their direction to reach ones behind it.

howardcs 2017-05-02 15:58

@slowian Great ideas. Thanks!

khorm 2017-05-02 19:22

- First reaction: meh I will probably not like this - Level 2: Naah this is kinda no fun - Level 3: Hmmm I can't stop playing - Level 4: GIVE ME A GREEN BALL COMON!!

Strangley addicting puzzlegame that looks kinda simple and boring at first but has some hidden depth and just kept getting more fun as I played it. Nice job!

gamepopper 2017-05-02 20:21

Pretty good game, I was hoping for something similar to either Arkanoid or Bust-a-Move, where the planets can ricochet, or hitting groups will destroy all of them. There is definitely room for addition. The planets look nice as well.

howardcs 2017-05-03 07:19

@khorm Thanks. Glad you liked it! Much of the gameplay came together in the final two hours.

@gamepopper Good ideas. Glad you liked the planets. I found a tutorial on how to make them in Paint.Net. Only problem was making and saving 36 frames each.

fiote 2017-05-03 18:07

I like how the balls/worlds actually go through the same-type balls. That mechanic was new for me ^^

zorg 2017-05-04 06:29

For some reason i could not stop playing it, despite the simple main mechanic. It's addictive. Luck is a big factor, especially at the beginning of later levels. You could reduce the influence of luck if wrong color hits would not be ignored completely, just do far less damage (1/5th, for example). I'd like to see additional mechanics, like trickshots. Slightly curves trajectories. Or (limited) bouncing. Or a wildcard color. The game looks suited for mobile.

daisy 2017-05-04 07:11

Alas I was defeated at level four. Surprisingly got into it though, I expect it's the satisfaction of clearing the planets.

I think a darker background might be a nice idea to tie in with the planet theme, also since the blue is a little bright for me.

Great job! :D

howardcs 2017-05-04 14:12

@fiote Great. Glad you liked it!

@zorg Good ideas. I'm thinking of maybe adding walls for bounces and maybe putting a blackhole in some levels to influence the trajectory.

@daisy Thanks! It was an intentional design choice to make the background bright blue to represent the sky because the mini planets are invading Earth and are not in space.

merrak 2017-05-07 05:14

Pretty good game overall! I would've liked a score and some indication of when the planets would shift downward... like Snood's "danger" bar.

jackyjjc 2017-05-07 07:53

Surprisingly fun for such a simple game! I find destroying the balls satisfying because probably because the sound effect and explosion animation. Sometimes I find that the ball's hitbox is too large though, it was frustrated that I thought i got a good angle but then it hits the ball that I didn't expect. Overall very simple yet fun game. Well done!

howardcs 2017-05-08 14:50

@merrak Good idea. Thanks.

@jackyjjc Yes, that's a confirmed bug. It tests for collision in the wrong order. When the planet is going fast, it can overlap more than one target and sometimes the farthest collision is detected before the nearest. I wanted to fix that but didn't realize the problem until after the submission period had ended. :(

bunnery 2017-05-09 13:50

I like these types of games - and this one put a different spin on it (geddit? :-) ) I loved the spinning planets and it was challenging as the planet you launched didn't always get the ones you were aiming for. Made you work a bit harder. Nice work :-)

howardcs 2017-05-09 14:56

@bunnery Thanks! Glad you liked it!

fixedgerald 2017-05-10 17:31

Simple and fun. Some kind of score counter would be nice.

namrog84 2017-05-10 17:55

Smash all the small worlds!!

pcmaster 2017-05-10 20:39

Surprisingly playable!

unidaystudio 2017-05-11 11:19

Good game. And I have to tell you that I LOVED the sound effect! You should make the planets near, with the same color, be destroyed too.

Good job!

blaster391 2017-05-11 14:45

This is nice! Reminds me of a little minigame that I used to play on my Sky Box when I was young. Surprisingly difficult when you get to later levels.

One thing I would add if you are going to improve on this is maybe make it so that you can see the next color of the ball you're going to get, this way you would be better able to plan your moves, making it feel less unfair when you keep getting a color that just can't hit anything

howardcs 2017-05-11 16:12

@fixedgerald Personally I only care about getting to higher levels in this type of game but I now see people want a score too. Thanks for the feedback.

@namrog84 True.

@pcmaster Thanks!

@unidaystudio Thanks. I'm thinking maybe some sort of bonus or power up will do that in a future version.

@blaster391 Thanks. Good suggestion.

ajayajayaj 2017-05-12 22:03

I wish you could bounce off of the wall, but otherwise a good game.

conrad123 2017-05-13 18:59

This game was pretty good. I like the planet animation. However, you should make it so you can bounce planets off of walls. Much of the time there's no visible target for a planet of that color. Bouncing might fix this, and it would add a new gameplay element as well.

wati888 2017-05-13 19:12

I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Well made, great visuals, nice audio, and challenging. That's not easy for a Ludum Dare game. Especially on the theme this time and in the browser. Others have also commented on this, about there being no valid targets that you can get to, and it is frustrating, but I don't mind it too much as that's part of the game. I overall don't think it needs too much improvement. Great job!

howardcs 2017-05-14 10:12

@ajayajayaj, @conrad123, @wati888

Thanks. I'm planning to adjust the planet selection or add walls or both to help with lack of reachable targets -- possibly some sort of power ups as well to help focus more on skill than luck.

pandakipu 2017-05-14 22:36

Nice game, fun playing it.

Good job.

howardcs 2017-05-15 16:33

@pandakipu Thanks!

garethjenkins 2017-05-15 19:38

I like clicking on the things. Solid implementation of clicking on things :)

howardcs 2017-05-16 07:44

@garethjenkins Thanks! I've always dreamed of making things people could click on and now that dream has come true.

rahtainka 2017-05-16 22:46

Pluspoint for the webversion! Not particularly innovative but very well implemented. The destroysound is maybe a little bit to loud but this is grumbling at a high level. I like it. Really good first entry. Well done!

2017-06-08 15:38

Simple but fun! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piKz6z64rgg
