That was hilarious, really enjoyed it.
Also crashes on launch for me.
Reuploaded, since the spawn point was accidentally placed in the last room.
If you like this, you might like this guy's game: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=22124
It's pretty similar, one of my favorite games so far.
Thanks guys, your comments mean a lot to me. I plan to continue working on the game for a few more days and posting a non-compo version. I really would like to fix all the game breaking bugs at least, and make a few puzzles a little bit less confusing.
@Phase I was originally trying to make it a 3rd person game, but since I ran into issues with mecanim, I finally gave up. I left the walking animations in place though, since I wanted to use the character for something.
@KaiMcKenny42 we didn't have time to complete that last puzzle. That will be one of the things we include in the non-compo version.
It crashes when I click the play button. I'm disappointed, since it looks really fun.
Pretty nice! The jumping is a little bit unreliable if you're already moving though.
I can't manage to upgrade anything, since I never get coins, no matter how many times it dings. It seems like it would be fun if I could upgrade stuff, but it's still too broken to play at all.
If you ever add anything to this, I recommend the end screen asking you to "Insert Coins to Continue"
I really like the 10 seconds crashing (probably wouldn't if I played a long time), but the insta-murder guys ruin it for me.
Nice game, but I would have liked a better input scheme. Either using the keyboard for the directions, or clicking and dragging. I also wish that it would keep your path inbetween failures.
@Dew, I'm going to rate your game because of that comment.
This game is really great. At first I didn't even feel like I would ever need to use the torches, seeing as I could see just fine near me.
Then, as soon as I saw the eyes in the darkness, I realized they were dangerous. Everything immediately felt darker, and the torches became really valuable, and the darkness became really scary. One of my favorite entries so far!
Really great! I got stuck on the level with the button behind the top and bottom spikes, but I'm bookmarking this to come back to!
I think I found a bug! You said you fixed a bug where you would die with only one hit? I think it still exists if you restart the game. I played through once and died perfectly fairly, but when it restarted, the first monster that got through killed me.
You need to recompile your web build without the context menu. I can't right click.
I want a mac build so desperately.
Very fun! It took me far too long to solve the first puzzle, my first thought was Helium (2) + 110, and the real solution took me a while.
I love how the moving platform gears are attached to the clock gears, and I really like how you seemed to subtly stick the whole game into a story that you don't really have to tell. This game is great!
I like the story and dialogue. Very funny.
Haha! This is great! Best humor in any game I've played so far.
Oh hey! Were you on IRC while I was telling people about arcseconds, or did you think of it independently.
This is really great!
I love that you have a Doctor Who quote in among all the literature quotes... I assume they're literature quotes because I've only heard of some of them and they sound fancy.
YEAH! -1700 POINTS!
Nice game, quite silly. It seemed you didn't have much variation in the types of people, but that's to be expected with a LD game, isn't it?
Wonderfully simple and well executed! I got to level 19!
Silly, mean, and quite funny. Nice job.
The controls don't seem to be very good. I can't predict what way I'm going to go based on what I do, and I randomly teleport places.
I like the collapsing effect a lot, but the rooms start to feel repetitive after only 5 or 6.
Love how you used the theme! 5 for theme for you.
The game just says "Welcome to prison of hell", and then just sits there with things floating past. I can't get past it.
SharkNATO is the best thing ever.
SO HARD! I don't understand how to kill an enemy without taking just as much damage as I deal.
Nice game, I love physics games!
I can't beat the mine-sweeper bomb. I've tested every single one that ends up left, but they're all mines.
I'm using the OSX version, if that makes a difference.
Ah, okay.
Good game though!
The robots not being able to find their way around is a bit annoying, this'd probably more fun with smarter pathfinding and a visible action queue.
Nice! I would've liked some more checkpoints in the second level, had to retry the whole thing a few times. It was very good!
Also, I love how you use the theme in so many ways. Great job with that.
Fun! My best is 8th dead I think. Worst is 1st....
Wonderful graphics and mood! The controls were a bit strange, and I didn't actually read the description before I started playing. It might help to write them below the player in your webpage?
Doesn't work on mac here.
I'm getting some errors in the mac build,
[0x0-0xed3ed3].com.apple.JarLauncher: Exception
[0x0-0xed3ed3].com.apple.JarLauncher: in thread "main"
[0x0-0xed3ed3].com.apple.JarLauncher: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/slozigec/tenSeconds/Main : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0
And some more things.
It felt a bit laggy. I like the idea, but as it is it feels too simple, and somewhat luck-based. (I suppose I could've looked upwards more often, I dunno.)
Quite merciless. Once I got to the enemies, I just couldn't do it anymore.
It was REALLY hard to get fired! I liked the style, nice color theme. 5/5 for humor as well.
The controls feel awkward. I think that's the main limiting factor of the game. It's funny and very hard, but those controls man.
I can't get the game to launch. I downloaded the cross platform, is there only supposed to be OnBorrowedTimeWin.jar?
Seems really nice! I'm going to bookmark this and try to beat it later. Seems nice and hard.
I enjoyed this, although I couldn't get past the rainbow level. I did think the controls felt a bit floaty/drifty, but it's pretty fun.
@MrBlade, the sound only beeps if it forces a choice for you.
@Pestodesign thanks! One of my friends told me "This fixes all the problems with Choose-Your-Own-Adventure games."
@OkayHughes I tried to make a warning sound, but it never really worked.
@PTSnoop, I'll put up some offline builds right away.
The 10 seconds to choose was the initial idea of the game, but it ended up playing a more minor part than I would have liked.
If I work on it more, I'll change where the timer shows up, instead of being every single choice.
@N427 The pack your things and leave was one of my favorite jokes. If you chose to pack your things and leave it just sticks that "You have no things here" card inbetween.
Hey everyone who rated me, thanks for rating me! You guys are all awesome!
I don't really get it, but it was pretty and funny. Good dialogue!
This is brilliant! I love the controls and the art, and it's multiplayer! And the animations and oooh! Bookmarking this one.
A bit confusing at first, but quite interesting! I agree the first comment, I thought it was a behavior experiment.
Nice game, the narration reminded me a bit of Thomas Was Alone. The controls were a bit too floaty for me however, and the graphics felt a bit strange. Your normal map might be inside out? It would look more like stone flipped around.
I'm impressed by how nice the demolition physics is, even if it's not the same sort of realism that those CoD guys want you to have.
Can you upload a webbuild, since you used unity? I'd like to play it on a mac here...
THE BEST GAME.
I was a bit surprised when it never ended and it just got laggier and laggier. Within the hour there will be 2Googol crazy hug people. There is no escape.
Nice!
Interesting game, but the 10 seconds is too short for this. It feels like you need to be very lucky to get the right tiles.
Very nice game! At first I thought it was easy, and was going to be too easy, but you ramped up the difficult quite nicely and the levels got nice and hard. Bookmarking!
Practically a fully polished finished game? How do you do it?
Very nice, I especially loved the animations.
I remember seeing a progress post for this sometime during the compo. It's very nice!
Art wise, I think it would be more ominous looking if the eyes were just eyes, and would simply blink back into being in the darkness instead of running away in the light and looking small and helpless.
I can't quite figure out what I'm supposed to do, but all the weapons are very polished.
I like this game, although the title is not very fitting. Your physics are no startship physics, so much as tank physics. Good nonetheless!
Amazing!
I eventually got stuck, but it was fun before that. I liked trying to work myself out of the debt I built up early on, and the music and sounds were very nice.
The single player version is practically pointless, but playing against myself was a bit more interesting, I don't really like button spammers though.
I got all 31 bananas too! Really fun, would probably be an successful mobile game. (You should port it and make more levels and make a meeelion dollars.)
Love the mood, but it feels too slow. I didn't make much progress, and at first didn't even understand that you could stay with the little fish. Interesting game overall.
It's too hard to tell what's going on, since you aren't really differentiated from your bullets, and they're barely differentiated from your enemies. Even so, I really enjoyed bouncing around the screen spamming everywhere, the particle effects look nice, and the sounds are nice, it's just difficult to play very deliberately.
Seems nice, but I had a hard time enjoying it because the controls were so strange. It made the interaction feel clunky.
I love that you can shoot their hats off! So great!
Haha! Won 2, Lost 2, Tied 1!
Pretty fun, but I have a few complaints.
Level 2 seems a bit arbitrary, it's hard to figure out what to do.
Level 4 breaks the previous theme of only using the lens flare for the goal, so that causes some confusion.
Level 5 has a missing collider, and seems to be unbeatable.
Pretty good artwork, but after a few rooms it all felt the same.
I also did a pixel-art branching path game! Yours branches way better than mine though. Good job, nice replay value.
I found the guards very annoying, since there was no warning of them getting suspicious. I suppose that's realistic though!
Very frustrating when I get sent back from near the end, I wish you'd put some checkpoints.
Managed to win immediately after my last ship was destroyed. Love the art, fun game.
I do wish you had some keyboard shortcut for next.
Oh wait you do have one.
Seems like an interesting game, but the controls need a lot of work.
I managed to get to the predators (the controls aren't as bad as I thought, they're just not very standard), but the predators were too hard to catch.
Running mac. I really wish I could play, the lighting looks beautiful.
Am I allowed to rate the graphics solely based on the screenshots? I want to.
Yay! A mac port!
Wow! It was as great as the screenshots suggested, and not only the graphics! Nice puzzles (probably should be harder and more controlled though), nice controls.
I managed to play the first few levels, but it started getting laggier and laggier, and then my computer crashed.
Nice! It's hard to type things which aren't words fast. And now my typing is all weird from doing it.
And why does 10 seconds draw everyone to bombs, anyway?
Why isn't the file public? I can't play the game unless you give me permission.
The game needs quite a bit of work, but I love the story!
Nice game. Pretty simple and fun, but gets repetitive once you've beaten 5 or 6 levels.
Loved the graphics and animation, I had a hard time seeing some of the platforms in game though.
I saved that day! Very nice controls.
Beautiful and powerful.
It seems too hard to avoid the obstacles.
You can have a unity game play directly in the browser by putting it in a dropbox public folder (If you want to try this, consider using my link here: http://db.tt/QSPSy2Uh), right clicking on the html and doing "Copy public link", and then using that link.
I can't get the mac version to work, but if you get an actual web build online I'd love to play this.
That was terrifying. I'm dissapointed that I can't rate this higher for mood, because on the scale I've been rating, this is the highest by FAR. Anyway, it doesn't seem so much like a game, I don't really control anything, but it's absolutely wonderful writing, and it wouldn't work without the images and music.
It's too laggy to play for very long for me, but I like the map generation a lot.
I love that you can shoot yourself in the head, and I love the way the characters are made. I would've liked the character textures to be a bit higher resolution though, that'd be my biggest complaint.
Beautiful game, nice music (although a bit repetitive). The art reminded me of nintendo game, and the controls of pac-man. (I think it would be even more fun with a joystick) One thing that I would change, is maybe make the viewpoint a bit higher up.
Beautiful game! I love the black-holer, and orbiting the planet with the recoiler.
Nice, simple game. Would have liked if you had disabled compression on the lightmap, but it might've been worth it for download times.
Haha! Great title!
Nice game. I'm also experiencing the problem Zeppelin Captain describes.
Quite a nice game! Very much enjoyed it, but it does take some time to figure out that you keep items between games. You might want to add that as a note somewhere.
Great game! I had to play it a few times to finally win, but there were enough items that there was new fun each time!
That was the best game I've played so far. My one complaint is that it's really hard to get to daisy. If you don't do lots of diagonal walking, I think it might be impossible.
I loved the "Remember to work together, as a space team, except you're alone"
That was great, don't know how many other people got the reference.
I can upload a mac version!
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47802619/LD/LD27MacBuildOthers/CombatTimeMac.zip
I just had to rename some folders and package it up with LÖVE
Nice game, I both like and dislike the cutscene at the beginning of the level. It adds some tension, but it also feels like its' getting in the way of playing.
It's quite fun, but I wish it would stay normal speed until right before the explosion went off. The slow-motion just forces you to wait too long, and the controls feel a bit awkward when you're not dodging shrapnel.
Great ship! I'm a bit disappointed with the engineer who designed my viewports, but I think that's realistic.
Very innovative!
Haha! Love the ending.
Sometimes "null" would pop up. It's quite a fun game though! Loved the music and art, and quite funny. Very nice entry.
Very fun!
Nice! I agree with Falcon, some audio would make this game really good.
Pretty fun!
I love how juicy this game is! Really nice entry!
If you used Unity, why not publish it for platforms besides Windows? I'd love to play it if you put it on mac or web.
Quit interesting, I liked planning for all of the different people, but I didn't really feel any payoff to it. Probably because I didn't understand how to play during the party.
Quite a nice story! It's a shame you didn't manage to add graphics to it.
I got to 2m! Great fun, far harder than QWOP itself.
Really great game! I loved having control of the captain as well as the ship.
It'd be nice to have space stations for resupply rather than just a dialogue that appears out of nowhere though.
Hi guys, by the second day I was quite aware that it was too ambitious, but I really didn't have any other ideas, I also wasted to much time on the art. Those of you who can't use the webplayer, I'll submit some standalone applications tonight.
It's great to watch you improve! A jumping game like this definitely needs better gravity and jumping, but you did quite well with what you could manage.
Also, I had a bit of fun porting it. Hope you like it.
I liked it quite a lot! The graphics are nice, the music is soothing, and at first glance the AI is pretty good. After a bit of examination it becomes pretty obvious that the AI is bad at focusing on multiple fronts at once, but I still had some interesting battles.
Great game! Jim was a boss worthy of mario (and quite reminded me of some of the Bowser fights in Super Mario Galaxy)
10/5 for humor. (Although I didn't see the "...nvm" the first time through, and it was a bit weird)
Love the game! Took me a bit (second playthrough) to realize that you used the mouse to shoot. The effects were very juicy (CAMERASHAKE), especially the end. A very good entry overall.
There's a typo in your controls, it says that q is jump but w actually jumps.
Quite a nice artstyle, it's a shame that I don't get to beat it.
Launches to a black screen and then quits with no error messages here on OS X Lion.
I get a segfault when I try to play it here on OS X Lion.
Great game, I played it for quite a long time. I was a bit confused about what were platforms though, and I didn't realize until about wave 5 that you could jump up on the branches on the right.
Pretty fun; nice and juicy interactions. The constant tumbling was quite frustrating at times though, when I would find the right one and then it would get carried offscreen.
Also, if it actually requires right click, you should republish it for web with the context menu disabled, it gets in the way of the right clicking.
I played about 4 floors, but I lost a boomerang across a pit and had no way to get it back. It was pretty fun up until then though!
Seems really fun! I was just talking with one of my friends about the Knights and Knaves puzzles a few days ago, so I think I'm going to come back to this one with some paper and try to win.
It looks very nice and seems interesting, but I can't get the hang of killing them. I managed to run past the whole mob. I'd suggest focusing on making fighting individuals more interesting, rather than throwing groups at the player.
Pretty good.
That was very fun! I haven't really played the classic dungeon crawlers, but it reminds me of Legend of Grimrock, so you're doing it right.
That said, it is quite frustrating to get your attack all lined up right a long way into the dungeon and then attack when the enemy is one tile too far away and lose all your progress. I think it'd be a more fair punishment for _missing_ to just lose all your charge and have to run away to recharge again.
Amazing and beautiful, I loved the music and the art and animation and everything. But having to walk back to the bosses every single time I died was nothing except HORRIBLY FRUSTRATING. Having to walk through a maze 15 times to fight a boss who is insanely difficult simply makes it less fun, but I really don't know how you could have handled it without making death meaningless.
Frustrating, but one of the best so far.
Pretty nice, but it felt like it'd be a rogue-like and then it let me down. I wanted to manage my inventory!
I destroyed the sun! This is really interesting, you should call it an interactive poem, if you want to call it a poetic (not)game.
At some point the air raids got so frequent there was literally nothing I could do (I played for almost half an hour,) and so I just had to sort of give up. One of the best games this LD!
WOW. This is the one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. For 48 hours, it's amazing.
BEAUTIFUL game. It was hard to figure out that the goblins were bringing me the money, I thought they were just wandering around, but other than that it's really great!
Really great! 100% boss battling fun!
This seems really interesting but it's SO HARD. I think only having one bullet at a time makes it a bit unfair. I never got past rectangle, but it was a nice challenge.
That was really fun! I'm glad I came back to play it. I managed to get to Möbius on the normal version, and played all the way through the caffeinated version. That's some really cool game mechanics.
@ENDESGA I plan on working on it more! I have some ideas that could make it way more fun.
@BallpointPress Thanks, I didn't have enough time to tweak the thrust, it was better earlier.
@WetDesertRock Yeah, the enemies aren't smart enough to chase you very reliably, it's hard to make AI that gets gravity. You're supposed to shoot the red dots.
@MrBlade I'm glad you liked the gravity, I didn't add sounds only because I ran out of time.
@FuzzyWuzzie, I'm glad you liked it!
@tiffi_gaming I'm happy that you think so, it was sort of last-minute fiddling around with garageband.
@jeffalisk Oh, it looks like you're right! I was fiddling around with the webpage and I must have messed up the javascript.
@Spaceoff, the web version should be fixed now.
@Phyyl, yeah, the AI is a bit too dumb to avoid the planets very successfully (n-body AI is HARD,) so you probably got lots of those from them crashing, but that does mean you're good at surviving in the gravity!
Haha! This was great! I really loved all of the programs there. #include <NSA>
Very interesting. I loved the music and the aesthetic, but it was a bit hard to play.
It took me too long to figure out what I was supposed to do, and it felt a little bit random when I was shooting at the ones beneath. (Didn't feel like there was a way to tell what was what.)
I liked the sounds a lot! It could be really fun with some more dynamic graphics and more juiciness in general.
Really cool how the ground moves, I love it! The controls were a bit weird though, and my character got stuck once or twice.
This looks really great, but it doesn't work for me. None of my input seems to register (except for space on the start screen.)
@mystakin It's strange, because it's unity. How are you handling input, are you using GetAxis?
This game feels fully finished.
YOU GOTTA MAKE IT F2P MAN I GOTS TO PAY DE MONEYS FOR CHICKEN. (Just kidding, nice game.)
Man, that's HARD! I think the detection's a bit off, I have to click ahead of the fish. It's a real challenge though.
Man, this game's beautiful, but really hard. Are there checkpoints later on? Because I never managed to get to one.
Best game ever:
"Earth: Don't do it."
It could do with some more rock types maybe, put 'em on the moons of Saturn and Jupiter? The best LD game so far.
I fired a whole lot of the detectors, but I never found anything. I agree that the driving felt weird (I don't think I could drive backwards while on the platform?) but it seems like it could be fun.
Man, this was really cool! I liked how you handled the digging trail, and boy are those enemies tough! (I should've gotten more upgrades.) Very nice game!
I like it, but I'm afraid I really don't get it. Are all the sphere's just to get in the way? Is there any reason that I shouldn't be firing constantly?
It seems to accept lots of two-vowel or consontant-vowel words. It's really fun though, I liked the leaderboards, how did you make them?
Funny, and pretty, but lacking on the gameplay.
It took a little bit to figure out how it worked, and then it was fun grabbing them for a while, but it ended up sort of being a fatigue game. Perhaps having fewer fall, but faster would be more fun, and also allowing multiple men per hook, so that my throws could have more strategy.
I liked it! It was really funny. It did feel too slow, and then it was really annoying when I got almost all the way through and then had to start over, but it was pretty fun.
Wow! I haven't seen shockwave in a long time! I didn't really get the point of the game (I guess you just dig stuff in here?) but I did really enjoy digging.
It did lag frequently, though.
Yeah, I had exactly the same experience as popogames.
I loved this, but I also had the same bug as LTPATS and BoaHeck_ArtGent.
This is the most innovative/interesting game I've seen this Ludum Dare! And I really like the art.
I really enjoyed moving around and breaking things, and the portals looked really good, but the levels felt pretty repetitive and it felt like some really cool things could have been done with the alternate world, but it seemed like it ended up more like a gimmick with not that many changes.
Look, the high gravity ones are nearly impossible to land on already, the virus isn't helping.
Haha. Really though, it's fun, and the help text is really really useful.
It was fun controlling the fleet, they looked really nice as they moved, and it was very interesting to be able to change the spread.
First of all, it was disappointingly short. I know you had 48 hours, so it's obvious why.
I also felt like once you started losing ships, it would just reinforce your losses, making it even harder to do well. This kind of negative reinforcement doesn't feel like very good design to me, although it didn't kill me. I'm not sure if you need to worry about this point, to be honest, but it does bug me.
Also, it was annoying that I couldn't aim very precisely. I think my ships should be able to aim very slightly so that they can line up with the advancing ships. I don't know if this would be too OP, but it seem like it would be more fun if it wasn't.
I think this game could be pretty fun, but right now aside from the swarming fleet it's a bit dry.
I have to agree with everything nikki93 said. The art was GREAT, but the game design was dull. The fact that the portals forced you to replay the same part over and over again was bad design, and forcing the player to start the game over if they miss one jump is just brutal and boring.
Seems like random fast FTL!
I loved the running and jumping, moving around was just so much fun. The aliens seemed a bit hard though, the only way I could beat them was to hide right on the edge of a planet and snipe from outside their range.
Having a web link which just links to a download page is pretty lame.
THIS IS SO HARD. I liked it but MAN.
Haha! I know it's not a proper game, but I like the ghosts, and shooting them is strangely fun.
Also, loved your music, best part.
Was there some part of the story that I missed? Why did he end up destroying things?
It'd be nice to have the asteroid belt, so I could find Jupiter more easily. I never bothered to wander any farther out than that, it just gets too big.
I wonder if there's any good way to make it more navigable without making it easy?
Also, the beginning dialog takes too long, I need to be able to click to continue after 5 seconds or so.
Excellent! I made the tremendous profit of -$800! This is by far my favorite game this LD so far, and since it's the first one I'm rating, that's not really saying anything!
In all seriousness though, it was excellent, good job.
I want to play as the fox! The bird gets pretty hard, when the other bird is stealing your stuff!
Also, loved the sound effects.
This is the best, you need to make some more levels and sell this!
This is pretty fun, I am now history's greatest monster, destroying all life with my supernukes. I feel like the gravity visualization could be cleaned up so that it doesn't wrinkle quite as much, and it needs to be more obvious that you can charge up the shots, it took me 5 minutes to realize I could.
Keep up the good work!
All those people who can survive 4000ºF are tough!
Seriously fun game. It's beautiful, it's the right balance of difficulty, it has great dialogue (what little there is from the sun), the planet animations are kind of funny, the music is excellent. I think you'll be getting 5 stars on everything but the theme!
It seems like if you reset the game, the harpoon doesn't work.
Great game! You need some better ingame instructions, and the connecting the roots feels a bit broken/repetive. Still fun!
It was beautiful and polished, but it didn't seem to go anywhere after delivering a lot of things.
Tremendously laggy over here (on chrome,) it doesn't seem like it should be, you need to look into optimizing this thing. Seems like it would be fun, but it's hard to play at 1/8th speed.
Haha! "You made some questionable choices, but at least you get to see this cool effect!"
I'm going to bookmark this and try to see some other endings!
Haha! It's fun to smash things. You should fix it so that you can smash the thing that you're pushed up against though, it was annoying to rush a fence and then have to step backwards before I could break it.
Hey, I remember helping you find cross-browser issues with this! Hi!
In addition to most of the above criticisms, I think one reason it feels boring is that there's very little variety, no real sense of progression in the tunnel. Maybe if the tunnel had some fancier graphics that changed as you went along — even just having different colors in the different rings — as well as some indicator of how far you were would do a great deal to help.
This is tough. I'm glad you added to options to make it easier, things like that are always a nice touch. What I feel is wrong here, is that with manual turning it's boring, and with automatic it's just frustrating.
Some balancing needs to be done to make this properly fun, perhaps making the connecter longer would help some?
It's quite a nice game, although I think I found a bug where planets that I captured would start auto-buying radio towers.
A few things that need improving:
The interface isn't quite obvious enough, mostly the research. It's not obvious that's a button, especially since you should probably also be able to click on the number. There are instructions, but I didn't read them until I had completely failed the first time.
Also, it seems that it's a bit unforgiving when it comes to picking a strategy, since if you do the wrong thing at first, there's no good way to correct your buildings.
I couldn't understand what most of the cards did. What did the swap card do? Why should we play any particular card, because if they play the corresponding card, it'll happen anyway? The design makes the game feel quite futile.
Did you really make all the art for this? The TARDIS looks absolutely perfect!
I agree with the above comments, the jump physics doesn't feel very good, and it also felt pretty easy.
The best strategy seemed to be run really fast jumping constantly until you find the TARDIS, which I doubt you intended.
