LD27 — 10 Seconds

Short Circuit by Nick Cash 2013-09-06T17:46:00

I really like the idea. Bullet hell shooters are primarily about dodging and shooting second so having to put yourself at risk by collecting power ups is an interesting way to go about it.
Really all it needs is some polish. The ships movement was too fast. Understandable as it needs to dodge quickly but the speed just doesn't look natural. In shooters it's best if the enemy explodes instead of disappears. I know it's just for looks sake but it feels cheap to just see any enemy disappear after shooting them.
If you were planning on expanding on this, an upgrade system and boss battles would be beneficial. Boss battles in particular could be very interesting as you would need to collect your weapons to defeat them.
Fun game.

A Love Story by Shmarah 2013-09-02T22:11:00

Art was very good. Definitely puts my Kinetic novel to shame. The use of the renpy system was also excellent. The story was alright. However I can't help but feel it was strange for nether one of the characters to comment on how creepy it was for a grown man to confess to a little girl. I guess it was intended to be romantic but still...if you heard that you would be more than suspicious. The final action of the main character was also rather spur of the moment. I don't really see the logic behind it.
Nice work.

ARGENTUM FORM by blackotus 2013-09-02T20:27:00

I really like how you have matched the theme. The idea of finding ten clues in the house and having a old style tv countdown is quite innovative. For something that was made in a short amount of time it's impressive.

However to be completely honest I really don't know what to think of it. One thing is that I can't really see the draw of a game like this. There is too little story(A majority of it left up to interpretation) to state it is a story driven game and I was waiting for a reveal that never came. There is too little gameplay to consider it a gameplay driven game as well. The main challenge lies in finding the rooms, as finding the objects is really easy if you just enter each room and spin the camera.
The only real advice I can give would be to strengthen either the story or the gameplay. Storywise you just need to add more to it. Maybe place suspicious rooms that insinuate something or perhaps flashes of the mans memories as he entered certain rooms which would fill in more of what happened. Gameplay wise would be trickier. This would involve adding a new gameplay mechanic. The obvious choice for a point and click style game would be puzzles. Collecting codes, solving riddles, etc.
Just a thought.

Endless Run by gmaker 2013-09-06T17:27:00

I was going to give this a bad review...but then I realized you could double jump. I died a good many times before I figured that one out.
As others have said the graphics are excellent. I have the feeling I heard the music before but none the less it's suitable. The games execution is up to par too.
The only real complaint I can give is that it's hard to go wrong with an endless runner. I feel this one is too safe. While it was made in a short time I think you should have tried to add an element that differentiated it from the large amount of endless runners out there. The ten second hour glasses and attack button aren't enough to make it stand out.
Still, good work.

Doctor Drown (Ph D) by paulmcgg 2013-08-29T03:27:00

The art and animation is good. Though I wish the opening movie had gone into detail about flooding the rooms. The lack of a pause or a retry button is inconvenient.
Gameplay tends to devolve into mindless guesswork. I think ways of avoiding this would be to highlight the rooms which the player can flood to make it that you don't have to check every screen by rolling over it. Or to highlight rooms previously flooded. Or some way for the player to map out how rooms connect. For example, the camera's could be numbered and on a pause screen could have a text box for players to make notes. 1 goes to 12, 12 goes to 5, etc. This could add a whole new layer to your game.
With some added modifications this idea has the potential to become very interesting.

Ten Seconds To Space by Arcana 2013-09-02T20:44:00

The random spawning in the middle of the screen really killed it for me. It makes the game more about luck than anything else. Also having the enemies disappear when you hit them is pretty unsatisfying. It would be preferable if there was a small explosion or something. It makes it look better and feels better.

You had one job by stewthepoo 2013-08-29T02:41:00

I liked the art and the concept is quite nice.
Though on repeat plays the messages tend to get in the way. It would be better if the messages only showed up once or if the messages were randomized to show different messages every time you play. Also it can be quite easy to get the timing if the red is always in the same place. While I feel this may make the game too hard, it would be nice if the place were the life line went red would change in-between clicks. This could be a more effective way to up the difficulty that making the red place smaller and smaller.
That said it got me to repeat playing it until I got to the point were getting the clear became outright impossible. Considering that I don't waste time on things I don't enjoy I say that's is an achievement.

Kickbox by Epiphane 2013-09-02T20:50:00

I can't say much considering I played it by myself. I can definitely see it being fun with another player. All I can really say is that it would be nice to have a method of controlling your spin. Maybe a kick button which spins your player rapidly.

Insomniac by AidanAK47 2013-08-29T03:04:00

@Epiphane, good point. I did think of a reason as to why he didn't tell anyone but I didn't think of countering someone being in the same room as him. I should change that after judging is over.
Though I would approach it in a different way that just having it appear when the other person is asleep. I think I will have it that he asks someone to stay in the room but it is at this point where his mentality is slightly unhinged. So rather than the person becoming scared of the thing tormenting the main character, they instead become scared of the main character standing guard with bat in hand. And then leave him to face it alone.
