LD27 — 10 Seconds

Clocked In by rylgh 2013-08-27T14:25:00

Nice take on the concept, and quite a fun game to boot. I like the idea of "bouncing" if you hit another ball, but it needs to be tuned, sometimes it's just too punishing when you don't realise you've walked into a dead end. It's a minor gripe though. I think with a minimalist aesthetic like you've picked you need to choose really good colours and I think you didn't do that. The beige doesn't look too nice and the shadow behind the clock face is not too great. Also love the affordance of the heart following your dude around.

Hoard Frenzy by ryan0788 2013-09-03T14:09:00

The game is very similar to plants vs zombies, with the caveat that there's a new wave every 10 seconds. Quite a fun game, but rather unforgiving to a beginner. Difficulty curve needs some fine tuning, but other than that I'm having trouble finding fault. I like the presentation, I like the game design, I generally just like it :)

I HATE AIRCON by Wuhao 2013-09-03T13:57:00

I don't understand the point, nor do I understand where 10 seconds comes into it, but I found myself having a lot of fun. I like the evisceration, it's great with blood on, and the tension as you speed up is great. I didn't know whether I wanted to have more air conditioners or more speed, but maybe the game is just like... subversive... man...!

Nut - timeout by van noctar 2013-09-03T13:14:00

This is about the first idea I had for "10 seconds" as well. Mario-style platformer where you stamp on dudes to get time extensions. In practise it doesn't work too well, but I think you guys got about as much mileage as could be had. The fact that hitting the guys without jumping on them cost time felt "right". However, other bits of the physics just didn't feel right. I loved the characters (they're carrying watches or pendulums which is cool) but not the background. The background seemed to bug on me as well, and I'd often be walking on air (?)

Leveling on borrowed time by Xatulu 2013-08-27T14:14:00

Overall, the theme was very loosely adhered to. The sound and graphics were nice enough. A huge problem was the game balance -- there was a jump button but you could only just not jump over the zombies. They also took too many shots to take down. There was a gun but it had a "200" over it and I had no idea how to pick it up, and a "tunnel" which you went into when you basically ran into zombies and died.

10 Seconds Before the World Ends by Lustdante 2013-08-27T13:56:00

Wow great! Not only are the graphics and sound adorable, but the concept is brilliant. It keeps the game as long as you want it but uses time as a resource. Very bit.trip. There's also checkpointing, which is such a great affordance. The only downside I can point to is that a mistake in the game keeps rolling on, you can't "correct" for an error late in the game if you've "wasted" those precious seconds and something's happened on a later level which you cannot predict. Still, based on concept alone it's incredible.

Blobb has enough time by bitowl 2013-09-03T13:25:00

I kind of didn't understand this. Sometimes you timed out but the level didn't reset. Some of the levels just plain old weren't explained too well. The hitboxes were also slightly too large. The different types of switches were not explained, and some looked too similar. However, I like the concept of solving a small puzzle in 10 seconds. I also think the sprites look nice, and the zelda-style presentation warms the heart.

Planet Smasher by thesunnyk 2013-09-04T11:31:00

Thanks for the love guys, it's really built up my confidence. I'll try a game for LD28 and hopefully it'll be better.

LD27 Matching Platformer by anthonyl 2013-08-27T13:10:00

I couldn't really figure the game out. On the one hand, strategically, once you are trapped between two two-high blocks you're basically stuck. Also, if several blocks match in colour, they don't disappear until you cycle through the colours (maybe? Sometimes they still don't disappear then!) It would make more sense if there were more constraints, like don't put a block on top of a block until the "level" below is full. The concept is a neat idea though.

Every Ten Seconds A Kitten Drowns by matthias_zarzecki 2013-08-27T13:46:00

Capture game, but fairly effective. The time limit makes it addictive, but there's no challenge ramp, and there's nothing to "spend" your money on. The mines don't move and there's really not much to contend with other than time management.

10 Sec Hero by StabAlarash 2013-08-27T14:05:00

Adorable graphics, and a unique take on the brief. I loved this concept that you could get loot and then re-use it for later battles. And it's a webapp to boot! However, there's a huge affordance problem with the "battle icons. You needed to overlay an enemy onto them or something. I also found the mage a bit useless. If you could get a spawn point on the map, that would be pretty handy.

Dark Interval by alexandervrs 2013-09-03T13:05:00

Does manage to be scary. The game just oozes atmosphere even though it is fairly bright. quite an achievement in such a short time. However, even though there's a lot of tension the player just ends up mashing the keys to get out, which means not reading any of the flavour text. However, still quite an excellent game.

10 Seconds Jump by Hopps 2013-08-27T13:32:00

The audio was pretty grating, but overall the game was OK. Had some similarities to Thomas Was Alone. Also used the time mechanic when removing bars at a particular time or when stepped on. Fairly fun too. On the downside not very imaginative -- just a platformer with a 10 second limit.

There is no time by brodavi 2013-08-27T13:20:00

Played this while waiting for another to download, love the affordance! The atmosphere is tense, and really uses that 10 seconds well. It isn't too pretty, but I liked the sense of discovery as you "loop" around time. There's also the concept of "sleep" which could mean creepy things. I could envision this being a very large and intense adventure game.
