I'm a little confused how I lost a battle against a box, but I'll go with it. I liked how everything bobbed to the beat of the music.

Wow.
Best music I've heard so far. The rings are neat, but I agree, a bit of animation on the racers could go a long way. A little bit of sliding would be good too. Good job though, don't really have anyone to try it networked with, but kinda cool to support that in a LD entry, jam or not!
I just wish I had a mouse rather than a touchpad to play this. I really love how the music is synched up to the action.
Definitely my favorite entry so far.
Graphics were definitely within the window. Actually just had a box jumping around until half-way through Saturday. I had my wife's little sister test it out and realized how bad the harvesting mechanism was, but it was a bit too late. I had plans for more types of things to harvest and little things you had to do to harvest different crops. Thanks on the graphics though! Aside from the title screen, they were all made within GameMaker's icon editor. The only thing that might be considered "out of the 48 hour timeframe" would probably be me referring to my warm-up entry for my lerp() function and a little bit of the platforming code.
@netmute: Sorry for the lack of Mac support, though I heard it works in WINE on Linux at least
@gritfish: Yeah, good point. The ESC to exit thing is a GameMaker default I probably should have just taken out, but I definitely agree some on-screen hints about keys would have been good. I wasted a lot of time, was surprised I got done what I did. lerp() is short for "linear interpolation", it lets you sort of "blend" between 2 values. I used it mostly for smoothing out motion of walking and the items you're carrying.
@everyone: Thanks for all the comments! Good or bad it's just neat to know people are checking out my game. I must say I'm surprised by all the compliments I'm getting on the pixel art, maybe I should do more of this stuff ;)
Crashes for me when I try to run it. (Win 7, intel graphics)
Ack, forgot to install XNA... not bad, bulls remind me of Serious Sam.
A bit too slow on my laptop to really give it a rating, doesn't look bad though :)
"The Secret Plan.exe is not a valid Win32 application"... sorry dude
Definitely the bloodiest game I've played of these so far. Particularly liked the trail you leave after squashing someone on the next few hops. I'll admit, soda was not the first thing that came to mind when the theme was announced, but bravo for such a villainous interpretation of a soft drink.
Oh wow, hello comments.
Thanks for the props on the artwork. Definitely agree with everybody on the "needs a clear goal" bit. I really just hadn't gotten to making that clear. REALLY wanted to get some satisfying noises to accompany the whole whipping mechanic. Believe it or not I DID record a "whoosh" noise using a thin piece of PVC pipe down here in my basement, but there was some static noise in the background, and my wife watching Netflix next to me.... and... I only had about 15 minutes to go until I needed to submit, so that didn't happen.
Again, thanks everyone! Polished or not, it was still fun to make :)
Oh, and JZ is actually a dude. Him and "Mr. Bowtie" are sort of exaggerations of 2 interesting characters I've encountered at work ;)
I'd say it'd probably be a little more challenging if your enemy moved around but... after all... it IS a potato.
Don't really have a 2nd person to play this with, but I approve of the multiplayer on one computer thing. I miss those days.
Reminds me of a simpler Skyroads.
I am impressed. Excellent, artistic use of the theme. Strangely felt like I was creating art as it progressed. Might be neat if some of the cells took on different sizes. Very neat idea!
I just spent... WAY too much time playing that. My only gripe might be that you're able to do TOO much, and it takes away a little from the feeling of accomplishment (at least for me). Obviously up my alley though, I've been playing it for at least the past half-hour.
A bit disappointed by the lack of sound, too, but overall very pleased with the entry. Very consistent style all around. Bravo!
Muffin gun. Damn, now I'm even more hungry...
Reminds me of Chopper Commando http://www.classicdosgames.com/online/chopper256.html
The colors are very... Lemmings-esque, and I swear if my guy had green hair, I'd be compelled to continually jump into the waterfalls.
Agree with the very Kirby graphics. Nothing wrong with that :)... Kinda felt like I should have scored a hit on enemies as long as I was higher than they were when I collided with them... but it seemed to be based more on my vertical velocity. Was kinda slow on my laptop. Nice job though!
THE BLUE KNIGHT ALWAYS TRIUMPHS!!!
...well not really... at least not in my case.
Admittedly the screaming noises without anyone actually having a mouth was a little disturbing... excellent take on the theme though. (Wish I'd thought of something like this ;) )
Loved this. Though my "friends" did bludgeon me mercilessly against a wall.
Nice job. Cute graphics for the penguins.
Didn't actually finish the whole thing here, but very well done. Dig the art style.
Not sure if I need something else to make this work, but I got "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running." I've got Win7, 32-bit. Just FYI. Looks neat, sorry it's not working.
@DustyStylus Yeah... I actually started on sound for them walking around, but had some awful bug with it repeating, sounded like grinding, and rather than spend a bunch of time fixing it, I just pulled sound out.
@lilinx Sorry to hear the transparency didn't work in the exe either... I was trying to do modulative blending with the spotlight, but ended up with some other hacky solution... which I guess doesn't work too well
@everyoneelse Thank you so much! I got off to a rough start with this, and it seems to have turned out rather well. Happy to have provided some entertainment, however brief :)
This is... way beyond my ability. It's saying something to even HAVE music in one of these things. Nice take on the theme... I was considering doing something sort of like this actually, but had no idea where to start... Great job!
Really dug the DOS-era graphics.... sound effects fit with that as well. Would be more interesting if there was some consequence based on whoever you ended up rescuing.
Odd, for sure, but certainly entertaining. I rarely play these all the way through to the end, but the different forms kept me at it.
Nice job! Didn't realize the mechanic of grown plants becoming walls essentially until it was too late. Very cool entry.
