Hmm, I assume the graphics were not made in the 48 hour timeframe? If so then amazing work, else I'd say so up front.
Interesting idea but I found the controls extremely unintuitive.

Was hard to focus with that GameMaker mark over the screen :( The graphics were great, however!

Graphics were definitely within the window. Actually just had a box jumping around until half-way through Saturday. I had my wife's little sister test it out and realized how bad the harvesting mechanism was, but it was a bit too late. I had plans for more types of things to harvest and little things you had to do to harvest different crops. Thanks on the graphics though! Aside from the title screen, they were all made within GameMaker's icon editor. The only thing that might be considered "out of the 48 hour timeframe" would probably be me referring to my warm-up entry for my lerp() function and a little bit of the platforming code.

Great graphics, polished mechanics. Good job!

netmute 2012-04-24 11:54

Can't rate because I'm using a Mac. Sorry :(

Was cute when the wife jumps for joy at getting a present. Nice pixel art.

The graphics are incredible. The pulling vegetables mechanic felt good but was hard to figure out (an on-screen prompt would have made it perfect). I think it needs to be in your instructions that pressing down exits the shop. I hit escape on instinct, which closes the game TWICE (insert a rage comic thing here), because there wasn't any obvious way out of the menu.

Incredibly polished for a 48 hour game.

Also what does a lerp() function do??

derdragon 2012-04-24 17:08

@netmute: Sorry for the lack of Mac support, though I heard it works in WINE on Linux at least

@gritfish: Yeah, good point. The ESC to exit thing is a GameMaker default I probably should have just taken out, but I definitely agree some on-screen hints about keys would have been good. I wasted a lot of time, was surprised I got done what I did. lerp() is short for "linear interpolation", it lets you sort of "blend" between 2 values. I used it mostly for smoothing out motion of walking and the items you're carrying.

@everyone: Thanks for all the comments! Good or bad it's just neat to know people are checking out my game. I must say I'm surprised by all the compliments I'm getting on the pixel art, maybe I should do more of this stuff ;)

GameMarker screen was very distracting and you are right about the controls of harvesting the crops. Other than that I thought this was a great idea for a game and could have been fantastic with a bit more time. Great work for the time limit, especially the graphics!

I really like the graphics, and the controls work nice and smoothly. But you should really get GM8 Pro, its not very expensive.

sampyxis 2012-04-26 02:41

Really liked the graphics here - and the smoothness

tourgen 2012-04-26 02:41

great graphics and kind of a cool game idea with things working pretty well. Yeah the harvesting key combo is a little strange.

crazyheckman 2012-04-27 00:22

Great game, look really good and plays well minus the weird digging up crop controls. I liked it a lot.

airrider3 2012-04-27 18:51

No Mac version! What a shame!! D:

poohshoes 2012-04-28 20:12

Wow. WOW! This game is amazing.
Biggest issues.
-At the start of each day I have to walk to the market.
-Can only buy 5 seeds a day.

tfendall 2012-05-02 03:21

Cool game. I played it until I essentially beat it, which I can't say for all other entries I played. I ended up buying all the seeds, harvesting them, selling them, and then buying all of the gifts each day. I couldn't tell if there is a winning state. I got to day 9 before I stopped, since it seemed like it was repeating forever. But the fact that I kept going that far is a testament to the game.

It was really polished. There were a lot of little things that made it a fully polished game. One thing that I couldn't help notice is that it was in-your-face sexist. The woman chills at home waiting for designer shoes, chocolates, romance novels, and other shiny stuff. Why does she need that stuff on a farm? Just saying.

Graphics are AWESOME, nice little gameplay (though obvs could use more variety), but it's really annoying to be almost at the market with a load of crops when 9PM hits and get forced to watch helplessly as I suffer through the Pig Gauntlet :(

robert-swan 2012-05-06 20:43

Very nice looking game. Could easily see adding a few more things to do would turn this from a 48-hour game into something that would draw people back repeatedly. I played for a few days until I realised I had essentially "beaten" it. The quality of what was laready there made me feel more was going to happen!

gregdevice 2012-05-10 05:20

Excellent work! Humor, graphics, gameplay all great. I especially like the personality each character seems to have. Love the pigs. Would like to see this expanded. Please buy GameMaker.

tobiasnl 2012-05-10 13:00

Nice game man. Good to see a fella gamemaker user;P I was actually shocked by the gamemaker watermark thing. Back in the days it was only during the loading.. Anyway, nice graphics, cool idea. The game itself was pretty fun as well!
