LD22 — Alone

Alone in Space by The Evil Cult 2011-12-20T01:38:00

Thanks for the feedback! :) I updated the move speed a bit (and fixed two other bugs), I am allowed to do that right, since the time isn't up? First time so I'm not entirely sure, and the rules weren't too clear.

I liked the concept. From your text I found that there was some sort of message the game was trying to tell me but it wasn't quite there. The gameplay itself was a bit lacking but the look and feel was nice. Would love to see what you would have done with this with a bit more time.

Good concept. Music was really distracting when reading the opening text. I also found that I seemed to die very randomly. Tried to play through to the end but had to put it down after a few deaths. Still what was there was quite enjoyable and could be great with a bit more work. I did find that the game made me think about how to move around the level which is awesome but I think the random element was a bit too much. Good work getting this done in the 48 hours!

Cool concept but I found the minions to be really slow and couldn't really get over that combined with their collision. However I did enjoy simply going on a rampage killing all the red dudes solo. Audio could use a lot of work but graphics were quite charming. Could be great with a bit more work!

Don't want to be one of -those- people but it's spelled 'enough' not 'enaugh' (just nitpicking sorry). Sad to see that you ran out of time with this, hope it goes better next time! A couple of things I noticed when playing the game was that the menu controls were arrows keys only but the in game movement was with WASD. Likewise the interactions were with space but closing them with enter. I think that the game could benefit from more consistent controls. Sorry I don't have much more positive to say but there isn't too much of a game here yet to really comment on.

Giant's Crash ! by Hatscat 2012-04-27T07:23:00

Was very surprised to see a first person game in the jam! The gameplay didn't really do it for me but I was impressed that you were able to get all this going in the time limit. Double jump was very confusing. All in all I think this was a good achievement but still needs a lot more work. Congrats on finshing your first LD!

Not really sure what you were aiming for here but it has a load of potential. I love the setting and I think it could be pretty awesome with a bit more work. As others have said I feel the combat is a bit lacking. It is possible to attack stuff without it hitting you if you play it right but it still feels clunky. I like that you can gather wood and was hoping to find some sort of use for it that I could not. Placing it down as a barrier would have been an awesome idea except I couldn't shoot out from behind it so it became fairly useless there. The graphics are quite charming and I love the snow, but the audio is a little annoying. Good work for the time limit though and I hope you expand upon this game!

Love the concept! As others have said below I think the random element probably works against the game a bit. It also took a little bit to realise the buttons were pressed by mouse. I think this is a cool idea and could be great with a bit of tweaking.

Wow! That was a hard game but I got through to the end and with only 135 deaths! This was one of those games where I just had to keep going even though it was insanely frustrating. It reminded me a bit of super meat boy which is a big compliment in my book. Good graphics, music could use a bit of work. Level design was great, movement worked well. Would have liked to see WASD controls for those of us that prefer that. Loved the deaths stayed there a little bit as a reminder of my past failures. Very polished. Could go on and on about the features I liked but I'll just say it's one of my favourites so far! Great work :)

I like the mood the game sets up from the outset, just the title itself made me smile. As for the game itself I found the movement felt pretty good for the most part but there seemed to be a lot of oddities with it at places. The graphics could use some work, particularly underground where the background gets a lot of contrast which makes objects harder to see. The open level design was very overwhemling for me and it is probably that alone that made me put down the game. I like the idea of the probe as well but I think it could use some tweaking and perhaps it could show the directions of nearby parts.

The start of this game was pretty slow but it ramped up just enough to get me playing right through to the end. Great concept but it could really use some more challenging gameplay. Graphics and music suited very nicely to make a great mood/tone to the game. All in all good work for your first game!

I felt that a lot of jumps I made should have been sucessful but ended up going through planets instead of landing on them. This unfortunatly set the tone of most of the game for me and the humerous comments then quickly added to my frustration. I liked the concept but thought this should be more about thinking which way to go rather than trying to work out where -exactly- you needed to jump to reach the next platform. Could be great with some tweaks though.

Very charming game but I felt that a lot of it could be bypassed by just waiting for the stomp and other parts involved just you waiting for the stomp to proceed. Also the grappling hook sections seemed a bit wierd at places and there were a few graphical glitches. Other than that though like I said this was quite charming and great for the time limit you guys had. Very cool to see you guys tackle a 3D game of this scope. Good work :)

Wasn't initially aware that I could venture right to combine materials. After I found that out the game made a whole lot more sense and I found it pretty enjoyable to the point where I had to play right to the end. I think the speed of the scientist in the lab itself could have been increased as I found it frustrating to have to walk across the room. Also I would suggest adding a list of combinations you have already discovered to the game. Overall though, good work!

To the person asking about the music it's from Kevin MacLeod at incompetech.com who does royalty free stuff.

I really loved the look and feel to this game and I think it is the only game that I've rated so far that really got me wanting to see more of the story. The gameplay was pretty good also, although there seemed to be some bugs in places where I fell through objects I don't think I should have. One really small gameplay aspect that stood out for some reason was that was that the heat-seeking shots from the plants lined up at a good height where you could shoot them which I thought was pretty cool. There were also a few places in the graphics that didn't really line up properly so I couldn't quite justify 5 stars there even though the rest of the graphics were completely fantastic. I loved the backgrounds, the falling particles, and the dialog boxes in particular. Great use of Kevin MacLeod's music too, very fitting tracks for all the levels. Great game all round that really got me playing right through to the end. Well done!

I've been pretty damn critical with my comments and ratings so keep that in mind when I say that this game was really fun and addictive. Simple concept but just made me want to keep on playing until I won (quite a while). Probably the only complaint I have is that there is no reset button so I can start the game afresh when I balls it up. Also I think there should be a more final sort of defeat. Other than that it was a great experience and very well balanced. Good work!

Different guy here (to the above post). Also played it. Was a heap of fun. I got yelled at though for skipping straight from purely building level 1 energy generators to building a universe, seems that there needs to be something to balance against just flooding out cheap generators all over the map (and just taking the losses, because the massive income offsets that).

I like the concept but I think this game is definately lacking some feedback. Suggestions below such as a HP bar and more visuals for seasons would be good to see, also perhaps the monsters could flash red when they are hit. Sound would also be a good addition to this game. Not quite there for me but a good result for your first Dare especially in the solo 48 compo.

With the sound effects there are a few sound generators that work nicely for simple video game sounds that are very easy to use. I haven't really worked with them too much but http://www.bfxr.net/ is one that you could try out.

The movement was a little different but once you get used to it it worked quite well. There was a couple of collision problems when walking along the ground or pushing boxes. Other than that this had great graphics, music, and level design. Quite fun to play and great to see that you got a complete game with a proper ending!

Pretty fun and addictive but a little rough in places. The frame rate dropped considerably at later levels which really decreased my enjoyment. The only other complaint I have is that it was very annoying stopping you doing anything everytime you made a building. Very cool concept and very enjoyable though. Was especially fun to chain combos together.

Sorry to say I did not make it to the second level. I liked the music and feel for this game. Even though the grahpics were basic I wouldn't consider them bad. There seems to be a bug with movement when you are next to some blocks. Also the attack doesn't work the way it looks like it should. Jumping up and breathing down on monsters does not work even though the animation shows them being hit by it. The other thing I found lacking was a lack of controls tutorial in the game. It was only open seeing an enemy I could not pass at all that I button mashed and found the attack.

Visually appealing but I found it quite hard to get a grasp of the gameplay. Camera and controls felt great but I think the zooming in and out could have been a little faster. I think maybe the game could have used some very simple levels with a smaller field as a tutorial to get used to it. Other than that quite a polished game for the time and great concept. Good work!

Simple but nice graphics. Good sound except double jump sound got a bit annoying. The level design was a bit too open for my tastes as it got overwhelming and I felt like I wasn't sure if I was going the right way or not most of the time. Lots of cool little gameplay elements packed into 48 hours that were quite fun to play with. Good work getting this out there!

Audio did not work for me in firefox so I switched over to chrome and everything worked fine. Fantastic graphics and feel! Pitty about the music, I think that would have added a lot. The gameplay seemed a little bit lacking. Most of the game for me was just clicking everything onto everything else to see if anything happened rather than thinking things through. Still a fantastic game overall though.

Cool concept. I found the mouse sensitivity a bit odd and the movement a little slow but it was really cool to see a first person game done in the time limit! I think the puzzles could also be a bit more thought out. Most of the concent at the moment seems like it is just trying to find hidden objects and reading the text that pops up. Still, this had a pretty cool overall feel to it!

Does feel a little unorthadox rating based on a video but I wanted to anyway because this seems like quite a cool concept. Would take quite a bit of work to be a complete functioning game however. Would love to see this expanded upon with some original music that was very carefully constructed for it's tone and then writing up some interesting stories to go with it. Very unique idea that is something I would never have thought of!

A good, challenging game.
There seems to be a bug where the cat keeps shooting, after load, if the game ends while you have the space key down and I killed my cats of like that a few times (it might have been me pressing space when the popup loads, not sure). I'm using Chrome if you want to look into it.
Despite my mad rushes to the refresh key, the game was fun to play.

This was a well executed game with a few bugs that are understandable given the nature of Ludum Dare. I hope you can create a polished version with additional content, the game didn't quite stand up on the second play through.

Awesome game! Went out of my way to get 100% fruit :)
Even though this seemed very complete I thought it could do with a tad more gameplay. Other than that it was fantastic all around. Good graphics, sound & movement. Great work!
P.S. Reading through the comments I came up with a suggestion: You could perhaps hold space to soar inbetween the levels rather than tap like normal.

Good stuff! Only a couple of minor complaints about the game. I overlooked the instructions at the start as I didn't want to read through all the text so it wasn't immediately clear that you had to go back to the ship after collecting all the critters. Also I thought the game was a bit too easy. It wasn't until the 3rd level that I got hit by a grey thing and after I learned they didn't kill me I was a lot less careful about playing through the game (the grey things even helped me in places!). Don't get me wrong though, I loved this game. The movement was great, the humor was gold, the graphics and audio worked quite well. The storyline dialogue actually made me really want to play through right to the end which I'm glad that I did because the ending was super cool! Great work for the 48!

Really liked the black and white king kong feel of this game but the gameplay was a little lacking. One problem like others have said is that you can just do a sweep to clear the ground. Another problem I had was that there was no real way to avoid damage and it never reset between levels. This could be quite cool with a bit more work though!

In the game I noticed what seemed like a collision bug when approaching some tiles from an angle. The exploration mechanic was cool but the open level design and searching for a needle in a haystack style gameplay didn't really click too well with me and that is what made me put down the game. One thing I would have loved to see is a 'you are here' on the map. Great to see you had fun making this, keep it up :)

Simple concept that was fun to play. Tutorial could have indeed used a bit more instruction and the difficulty of the later tutorial levels seemed odd for a tutorial. Other than that it was pretty good!

I have seen a few point and click adventure games in the comp so far but this is the first one that actually made me think about how to logically use everything rather than just click everything onto everything else. I liked that there were multiple paths through the game. Inventory UI was a little buggy in places. Overall not bad!

Love the look and feel. Music was wonderful. Difficulty seemed to ramp down instead of up though. At the start of the game I was very heavily struggling but as I got pickups I just zerged through until the boss (where I died). I didn't feel as if I could have fared much better against the boss no matter how I played. Didn't play the Post Jam version so that may have addressed some of those issues. I think the game could benefit from some knockback on your weapons or some way to avoid melee damage better. Overall good work!
P.S. Loved the look of the weapons. Very creative :)

Just played through the Post-Jam and I do think I had a better time with it than my first playthrough. Really love that music! Still haven't managed to beat the boss! Perhaps some sort of block could be added to the game? I feel like there's not much I can do against that guy. Still quite a polished and fun game though :)

It's a rather nice game, a little hard to use the facilities but the work side was simple enough. The only thing missing was a gradual increase in difficulty level.

This game has quite a few similarities to the one we made! I like the art and the concept behind the game but I feel that the gameplay and controls were a bit off. The right control/alt keys were a bit of a pain to use but the main annoyance for me was having to keep spamming the button down to attack and also having to press a key to collect resources. There were also a few graphical bugs in the last level. Other than that, like I said great concept and good look and feel :)

Holy crap that scared the hell out of me. Not sure I want to play the version with sound because I could very well soil myself. Cool concept, movement worked well for the most part. Really loved the unique game over sequence and making the game darker when you take damage. This could be really awesome with a bit more work. Going to play the post compo now, hope the sounds aren't as scary as the graphics were the first time.

Ok so I played the post compo and even though I was expecting it it still scared the crap out of me. A lot.
Anyway, whilst playing again I remembered that I wasn't too keen on the way the light worked. I think the controls were a bit off and it felt like I had to spam the button the whole time. Not sure how to fix this but maybe you could let the player hold the light on for a couple of seconds then wait for it to recharge a bit. Another option could be to have the light pulse automatically.

For me this was an extremely relaxing game. I built right up to the end and got my little guys home! The game is a bit rough around the edges in places such as the camera, the blur effect, the balance, and a couple of bugs, but I think this could be really special with a bit more work. Very well done for getting this done in the time you had.

Very unique and fun game. I think the difficulty ramped up a bit too quickly though and the ship slowed down a bit much with a fully charged laser. Other than that I think this could make also do with a side on shot so you don't feel so helpless about colliding into a nearby asteroid. Gave you an extra 'Mood' star for the message hidden in the high scores :D

Got to 6 monoliths then lost because I didn't know you had to stop the aliens getting to the cave. Good game other than that! Let me preface this by saying I am not much of a reader. This led me to skip what was to me an overwhelming amount of text and from what I can make out much of the core of the game. The game itself was very difficult to understand as there was no notes as to what I should be doing. It was only until I came back to this webpage that I realised there was a help screen. On first playing through I assumed 'About' was information on how the game was made or similar. On the plus side though I did like the feel of the game, the music in particular added a lot to it.

Web version did not work for me in firefox so I got the windows version. Really like the idea for the game and was fun to play. Music did get repetitive and I thought the movement could have been a little smoother. I did find a glaring bug where when I died and it reset the music played over itself. Also I think when you destroy a planet you should be able to pick up it's remaining asteroids rather than them remaining in the destroyed planets orbit. All in all not bad for 48 hours!

Good concept! Unfortunately I didn't notice that I had to install the font until after playing through. Quite a cool game you have here :) I think I managed to exploit the level with the I LOVE YOU bear, bypassing most of it by narrowly sliding past the shrink item. The level after that I found was very overwhelming due to it's open level design and I had to put the game down there. Other than that the game was pretty good. The graphics were great and the music was very relaxing. The movement was pretty smooth and it was very clear how to play from the very start. Not bad work!

The idea for this game seems pretty cool and the sounds were good, but I couldn't really get into this game at all. I even restarted a few times to read the controls screen to see if there was something I was missing. The controls themselves seemed awkward with the mouse being used for look and the cursor at the same time. Hope this doesn't come off as too harsh as I do like the idea and think it could be cool with a bit of work.

I started up the game, the music was great and I was very excited to get into this. I typed in my seed OMGLOL and proceeded on normal difficulty. Then I walked right one step (off the edge of the world!) and got the game over screen and had to close the game. Opening the game again I picked a new seed and went straight to the EASY option. Took me a little while to find out what the controls were but after that the game seemed pretty solid. Graphics were good, animation was very smooth. Sound and music as I already mentioned were awesome. The only real complaints I have about this (and probably what stopped me playing) was that you only have one life and you have to quit the game then reopen it after that.

As is said in the other comment I think the controls are a bit clunky and diagonal movement could really add to the game. The attack was also a bit hard to work with, perhaps it could have some more range on it. The only other thing that didn't really click with me was the openness of the level design as it overwhelmed me somewhat. Other than that I thought this was pretty cool. The simple graphics worked well and the audio was quite nice. Good work getting so many features added in the time limit!

I love these sorts of games and this one got me pretty intrigued. Shame that you ran out of time for the other acts because it was looking quite good other than that. Will definitely check out the extended versions. The only other thing I have to add is that I think this would be great with some audio. Just that '...' sound you get with some older rpg dialog boxes if you know what I mean by that. Would love to see this evolve into a completed game.

Thanks for playing guys!

We were hoping to package it up as an applet for web, but for some reason the game was streaming files off the site as-needed rather than caching the entire thing, and we couldn't get it fixed in time (tried looking into MIME types on the server, alas, no success).

You can actually use F, Space, Enter, or Control for anywhere where Space is usually used (menus/shooting).

I know people probably won't read replies to their posts, but I think I should address things anyway, for the benefit of anybody else reading this.

The lasers-through-walls was actually a conscious game design choice on our part. The aliens would have been useless otherwise (the levels would have had to be much more open). Ideally (given more time to work on it) a compromise would have been to make half-height walls in some places.

I also should have added (again, didn't due to lack of time) a piece of code to order entities in order from top of the map to bottom of the map, to get them to draw in the correct order (thus avoiding say, walking very slightly under the door).

I listed it as Windows because I wasn't able to test it on any other operating systems. Updated now though (downloaded a Linux VM to test). I actually changed it before reading that comment. :)

Thanks all for playing the game! The comments are appreciated.

It's truly great to see something that we worked on get so many positive reviews.

In response to several of the points about the music, yes, it is a bit short. I find writing music within a time limit difficult, it's a creative process that doesn't really take kindly to being rushed, and I rarely manage to get anything completed that I'm happy with. I would definately have liked to make it longer, perhaps in the realm of a minute or so before it looped, but time constraints prohibited me from doing so. Unfortunately, I also wrote several pieces that weren't included in the final product (Again, due to time constraints) that were significantly longer than the music for the Grasslands/Title Screen....but that's the way these events work.

Learnt quite a bit about composing on a deadline and working through the block, and alot more about writing in varying keys of music with more than just block chords. You should see some significantly more developed music should we participate again.

- Brendon (Audio).

I didn't find this game to be very intuative at all but once I got into the swing of things I felt a lot of satisfaction from solving how to proceed. The thing that made me put this game down at the end was the fact that restarting always put me back at the same place. After not getting a box to where I needed to be (When you get shrunk) I had to reset and could not stomach going back through all that again. I think that the basic idea behind this game is pretty good but the learning curve needs to be a lot softer and the punishment for getting stuck needs to be reduced.

This game could have really benefitted from audio. Other than that it was a decent, short and to the point game. Difficulty was fairly well balanced. Dinosaur Survival Bash!! by Orni 2012-09-03T08:09:00

At first I didn't like the way the camera moved but as I played more I really liked the frantic looking around feeling as if I was playing an FPS. Graphics are fantastic. Audio was good but could have used some music I think. Gameplay was also great but I found that a couple of my deaths seemed a bit unfair. Fantastic work for the 48 hours. Probably the highest rating I have given a game thus far.

Tiny Evolution Adventure by AdventureIslands 2012-09-04T21:15:00

Awesome game! I have a couple of criticisms but all-round this was great!
I found the death a bit too punishing. In some cases I had gotten halfway or more through a level and dying at that stage was a very frustrating setback.
I think the game could have also used some sort of interface for showing the player how much more they have to eat to pass a level.
That said, this is one of my top rated games so far! Graphics were very nice although I felt a bit cheated by them in one place by a leaf that I thought I should be able to jump on, where instead I fell through it to my death. Audio was nice too and it was quite a fun game in general. Very impressive for solo work in the 48 hour window!

Wow lots of comments here. If you are anything like me you are reading each and every one though :) Loved the graphics, they are amazing! Even without sound this game conveyed a great mood but I think music/sound could have added a lot more to it. The gameplay was a little lacking but I didn't really mind because the tone of the game kept me interested. I found the ending a bit creepy so it's quite impressive you managed to get that emotion out of me in the time you had. I think with a tiny bit more polish and introduction of sound this game could be a really special experience.

Yellow Dog by Barry Abrams 2012-09-02T19:09:00

Lovely :) Graphics were simple yet effective, mood was great. Audio was almost on the point of annoying whilst eating/drinking but wasn't too bad. Poop animation was hilarious :) I felt the gameplay could have used a little more depth, maybe having to clean up the empty dog bowls in-between tasks and perhaps some options to pet/scold when he has done good/bad things. This game reminded me of my dog (except that my dog has been rather naughty lately unlike my dog in the game :P) and it made me smile. Good work :)

Cellvolution by thewiseguy99 2012-09-02T08:11:00

Fun but I thought it could have used a bit more depth to it and perhaps a bit of a speed increase. I also felt that luck played into it too much. Only bug I found was that some powerups spawned right on the edge of the level and I couldn't pick them up. Still, this was fun and a bit addictive. I got to level 8 before I died.

rEVOLution by TwilightFlandre 2012-08-30T18:29:00

I quite liked the LOS lighting used as well as the augments system. Nice subtle humour in the starting inventory of the gentleman. The graphics could use some work and the level generation could do with fewer "corridors" and more "rooms". Nice work for the short space of time though. A good amount of content.

Augment to advance by littleball 2012-09-02T07:22:00

Ouch that was hard. I got to level 7 before I had to give in. I liked the challenge and felt as though I was achieving something when I beat a level but the jump was just a little too frustrating for me. I did like how the length of the levels and ability to reset meant that you could just get straight back into things when you botched it. I also loved the fact that the powerups doubled up as a platform which lead to some nice little puzzle elements. I think the movement might need just a little bit of tightening up as that was what made me have to put the game down in the end. Great work though!

Dr. Helix by SecondDimension 2012-08-30T18:57:00

UN-Natural Selection by Haddy22 2012-08-30T18:47:00

Cool concept but could use a bit of fleshing out I think. Unfortunately for me a lot of the game seemed to using one pair for the whole round to try and pass and their seemed to be a lack of control over what you had left to breed with in later levels. Sound and graphics worked well, great concept, and matched the theme pretty damn well. Not a bad game all-round :)

The life of Cat by Amoaeba Junior 2012-09-02T19:30:00

I gotta admit I wasn't sure from looking at the game page but I played this and it really had feeling to it. In regards to the cat's speed at the end I think that it is pretty spot on with the mood but the length you have to walk in that level could be shortened so it isn't too frustrating. Good work getting such great feeling into a game in the time you had.

Human Fatality by MrHalfman 2012-09-18T00:29:00

I found the movement a bit frustrating and had to put the game down because of that and the lack of checkpoints that made me do everything all over again when I died. Also I felt the spikes should have been a bit more noticeable. Other than that the tone of the game was nice and the graphics and music were pretty good :)

Eat or Die by yettatore 2012-09-02T08:17:00

Nice concept :) As pretty much everyone has said the fact the guys head falls off is hilarious. I found one bug that got me caught in a wall and I couldn't move. Other than that pretty solid for the 48 hours!

Planet Conqueror by Maacus 2012-08-30T18:44:00

Pursuit Of True Self by Kyoutashan 2012-09-18T00:21:00

Loved the art style but the gameplay was a bit too chaotic for me. I felt like I didn't have the control I needed to survive the onslaught of bad stuff coming my way. Still, the game had a good tone and I liked the idea of collecting positive energy as a goal :)

Super Clew Land by Team Clew 2012-09-17T23:05:00

Great game all-round! Music and sound had a great feel to it but the music got a bit repetitive after a while. Animations were spot on. I liked the mini-game but felt it clashed a bit with normal gameplay. I also found it a bit hard to find the ending (I flew around the top of the map for about 5 minutes looking for things up there :P). Also, I felt that the respawn points were sometimes a bit too punishing. Other than that this was an amazing piece of work and outstanding for the time you had :)

Great graphics and the music is very nice. I found that the gameplay was not really intuitive and I got stuck on my first run-through by putting the first key behind the gate. Very nice mood/tone though, good work!

Targeted Evolution by johnfn 2012-09-03T11:31:00

Nice humor, and decent game all-round! I felt the ending was a bit abrupt and the movement was a little frustrating at times. I also wasn't too keen on the audio but apart from that it was quite nicely put together and a fun one to play.

Dino Chef by RichMakeGame 2012-09-18T00:49:00

Looks good and was fun to play. Shame that you didn't get more time to work on this.

How evolution really works? by keenblaze 2012-09-03T11:40:00

Simple and effective graphics. I found the boss incredibly frustrating because I had to sit through the dialogue each time I failed. Other than that it was quite fun to play through, well done!

MuTaTrIs by yosh 2012-09-02T07:10:00

Nice solid game. I agree with the sideways motion being a bit too sensitive but other than that this is really well polished and quite fun :)

Land Evo by flashkick 2012-08-30T19:17:00

Nice idea, fun game. Hit a few bugs: The first play through, I had exactly 1000 points when the time ran out, but it counted as a loss. The second time, I was thrown through the water off the map. The game also froze quite a bit momentarily. The graphical style suits the game, the simple audio worked well enough, and the game fit the theme. Well done.

Pasazh by harusame 2012-08-30T21:05:00

Nice pixel art. Since you're using LWJGL, you should be able to create a Web applet reasonably easily that packages the natives alongside it - they have a tutorial on their site.

Super Charles Darwin by gnx 2012-09-02T07:41:00

I found the jump to be too weighty and the movement in general needs a bit of work. Loved the humorous sound effects, and the projectiles look pretty cool.

Dinolution by The Evil Cult 2012-08-29T07:13:00

There's a bug with platforms that are only a single tile off the ground causing subsequent platforms to become impossible to land on. This was mostly avoided with map design as we didn't have enough time to fix the bug, but we forgot a point in the Submersion level where it's left in.

Thanks for playing!

Dinolution by The Evil Cult 2012-08-30T20:14:00

Kayelgee, I disagree regarding collision detection. The collision detection currently lines up with the feet of the dinosaur. If your feet touch the platform, you don't fall. If it were the width of the dinosaur then the dinosaur would appear to be floating in mid-air, which would look and feel quite weird.

I agree to a certain point with the jumping, but there was a reason that it acts the way it does - the player has the opportunity to re-position themselves on the x-axis while in mid-air to control their fall. Ideally it'd take into account the momentum of the jump and modify that, but there unfortunately wasn't time to fix the code to do this.

Dinolution by The Evil Cult 2012-09-02T02:24:00

I was hoping somebody would notice the underwater effect. :) Thanks.

Dinolution by The Evil Cult 2012-09-02T10:22:00

@timtipgames, that bug was annoying me. I fixed it today after rewriting a lot of the collision detection and movement code, and I'll be uploading a post-compo version after judging is over (so as to not break the rules. :)

Dinolution by The Evil Cult 2012-09-04T07:51:00

@Yakka
The theme of evolution was conveyed via the upgrades you can get that evolve your character to get new abilities. We had much bigger plans for this system but sadly didn't get the time to implement them. Had we gotten everything we wanted out of the system much of the core gameplay would have revolved around it.

Dinolution by The Evil Cult 2012-09-06T02:49:00

@patrickgh3, this was one of the issues fixed for the post-compo version. :)

Advolvolution by Charlie Hadden 2012-09-03T11:24:00

I think this really needs some sort of feedback when attacking.

500 years by imef 2012-08-31T19:24:00

Nice idea. This could be rather awesome with additional work.

Dissolution by Sergey Mohov 2012-08-31T19:30:00

At some point the camera stopped following with the character. I'm assuming that's a bug and that I didn't do something wrong?

LD26 — Minimalism

Gods Will Be Watching by Deconstructeam 2013-05-17T14:41:00

Great game, you guys did really well! That said, I think there might be a bit too much luck involved and perhaps theres still something missing. I managed to get to day 40 with 28/50 radio as my best. Good graphics, audio and gameplay... just good all-round! Would love to see this expanded upon.

Gods Will Be Watching by Deconstructeam 2013-05-17T15:10:00

Played again and got day 40 and contacted the guys with everyone alive and well except for the soldier (he was delicious). Ending still said my Sgt commited suicide though?

123456789 by piman 2013-05-15T03:03:00

Yeah ok I give up. I managed to push past 7 after a LONG try at it but 8 got me. Brilliant game, maximum fun for minimal complexity.

Only criticism I would make is that pressing escape to go back to level select should be shown somewhere other than in the comments.

Rock Paper RPG by Jan Marcano 2013-05-01T07:40:00

I liked the spin on Rock, Paper, Scissors but in the end playing this sort of game against a computer just comes down to luck which I wasn't a big fan of. Still, I think this game is pretty charming and I liked the feel of it.

Kill Tower by KHANanaphone 2013-05-07T23:45:00

Really nice game, one of the most fun I've played so far this LD. Unfortunately my brain gave way at 4-3(Honor guard) and I couldn't complete the level. Level design was great and the difficulty curve from level to level seemed pretty spot on.

Brian's School of Minimalism by DustyStylus 2013-05-08T00:34:00

Fantastically hilarious. Nothing to say other than that.

LESS [Last Exit Scary Square] by Tsuki_Usagi 2013-05-15T03:17:00

Interesting. Great job setting the tone with limited tools. I found there were some issues with the text that bugged me. I also seemed to get stuck in an infinite loop on my first playthrough which didn't seem too fair to me.

Proxy by Broxxar 2013-05-19T06:17:00

Great game! I also stopped at the abyss level as I found that a bit too much. I really loved the simple but fun and unique mechanics and the variety of stuff you could do with it. Very intuitive.

Steve Can't Zen by DaanVanYperen 2013-05-01T07:21:00

Nice game and quite funny too! I would have loved the ending to have been Steve passing out from blood loss but all in all I had a pretty good time playing this and loved what you did with the theme.

Critical Failure by Ranmara 2013-05-01T09:01:00

Really cool concept. I was a bit confused at the ending though. I removed my comms just before the end and was left with just med bay. I didn't die but the game just ended after the command guy failed to contact me, which felt a bit weird. I liked the little starfox-esque portraits and also your take on the theme.

Critical Failure by Ranmara 2013-05-01T09:07:00

@psychomonster The Minimalism theme can be taken a number of ways. The gameplay/graphics here might not have been minimalistic themselves, but the game is about reducing everything that is not essential which is the very definition of minimalism. At least that's how I saw it. I actually gave this 4/5 for theme.

Street of Rave by TinyDrakkarStudio 2013-05-01T09:35:00

Nice game. I really liked the music but it kept on stopping and starting while I was playing. Other than that everything was quite nice but I thought the cops moved a bit too fast (Or maybe I just suck :P).

Seed by whitetigle 2013-04-30T15:09:00

Nice game. The main thing I liked was the feel that the graphics and music gave. The gameplay was also fun but I feel as though it could have been a bit slower and more deliberate.

Defender. by Tainted_Code 2013-05-01T07:30:00

Nice game. I found that it took a little while to get my first hit in but after that I found it a bit too easy to line up my shots. Love the gameboy style feel to it and I think you worked the theme in pretty well!

The One Road by Dietrich Epp 2013-05-17T01:24:00

Addictive! This is probably the game I spent the longest on the whole compo :) (I Played through once on hard then once on impossible). Things I might add would be a Run button and maybe a scroll of town portal.

Leaf Me Alone by Claw 2013-05-21T05:18:00

Lovely. Finished the game and also found the owl! I found it a bit too hard to find the third star/gem though. One thing I might want to see is the ability to press down to clip back through platforms. Great entry, and grats on the score!

Slime Factory by The Evil Cult 2013-05-15T02:40:00

Thanks for all the awesome comments. We are working on a post-compo version that should hopefully be done sometime before judging is over.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Maze Rush by OneL3gend 2013-08-27T16:16:00

Good effort for your time, movement was a little choppy but basic idea is nice.

Exocolony by Tange 2013-09-02T22:02:00

This is a really solid idea. I love the fact that you can slingshot using gravity wells :) Unfortunately I found it a bit too hard to control and thought the gravity was a bit punishing in places. I feel like this would be a pretty relaxing game if it didn't have the restriction of the 10 second theme. Also, is that an Australian flag I spot? :D

Insert Token(s) to Continue by Sestren 2013-09-01T01:08:00

Nice, charming take on the theme :) I found the game to be incredibly hard, but I think I am just too used to mouselook. Not a bad effort for the 48 hours overall, but can see where more time would have really helped you.

Dungeon Deadline by Orni 2013-09-05T11:34:00

Nice. Took me until my 2nd playthrough to really get the hang of it and be able to explore the levels a bit more, then beat the boss. Graphics/sounds nice and the game felt nicely polished. No real complaints but it would perhaps have been nice to see some time powerups or something that allows a bit more exploration of your levels as I felt that I never got to see all the work you put into them! Overall, nice work :)

The Fall by Qaterknan 2013-08-31T21:31:00

Positives:
Liked the setting.
Good concept for the theme.
Music matched setting pretty well.

Negatives:
Too many units in setup time so didn't have time to think about strategy.
Units took too long to get across the field after the battle was pretty much over.
Tutorial text was quite overwhelming and didn't really want to read through it all.
Felt a bit too easy.

All in all, not a bad game. As said above setting is good but I feel that this would have worked a lot better with less units or given a different theme to work with. The 10 second setup just doesn't give time for strategy and that should be what the game is about. Still, enjoyable nonetheless and a pretty good effort!

NodeNetOS by Zathalos 2013-08-30T13:57:00

Nice! One of my favourites so far. I didn't think the gameplay was too complex but as said below I do think tooltips could help as I couldn't remember what the abilities did. Other than that it was very enjoyable, but would like to see some harder levels. Nice work!

PAC MANy by namuol 2013-09-01T01:15:00

Everyone loves pac man! And this was a very nice take on it. Had quite a bit of fun playing this. Good work!

Elvenglade by AlexFili 2013-09-03T04:02:00

I got to wave 18. Everything before that seemed pretty easy but that one just annihilated me. Decent game, could use a bit of balancing and polish but other than that pretty fun. Could have used a couple of unit types to mix it up a bit. Reminds me a lot of Plants vs Zombies. Also, Elves!? I wanted to play the Dwarves!! :P

10 Sec And Slash by NostraDamon 2013-08-30T14:49:00

Nice entry! Very nice graphics and solid controls. I found the levels with mines to be a little too punishing though compared to the rest of the game. Good work overall though!

Up-Run by garygreen 2013-08-31T17:44:00

Interesting. Pretty fun but felt a bit punished by plain bad luck. Also did feel like the AI took a bit too long to get to the top.

Chicken Snatch by tigerj 2013-08-29T03:03:00

Nice solid game. Controls felt smooth and game actually felt pretty relaxing to play. Good work!

Ten Second Teach Em Up by BumpkinRich 2013-08-27T16:58:00

Fun, but also frustrating. I felt like the jumps had a bit too much weight to them and couldn't quite get used to it. I really liked the amount of cool mechanics you put in and the rate at which they were introduced. I got stuck on the level where I 'forgot' my grenade launcher and had to quit in shame. Quite a nice game for the 48 hours, good job!

Subject 127 by Dohan 2013-08-31T18:11:00

Pretty fun, but I had a couple of issues. Firstly I found that the camera should have been zoomed out a bit so that you can see where you are going. Second was that the jump felt extremely touchy, which was very difficult in some of the levels. Liked that you included an intro and liked the security element to it. All in all not a bad entry!

The Saddest Landscape by BradleySmith 2013-08-27T19:05:00

Shame that you couldn't get more in. Looks like a really good start. Would have loved to see how it progressed.

xhon by savethejets1 2013-08-27T18:53:00

Cute little game. Felt compelled to press through to the end and was happy I did. Love the introduction of new mechanics through the levels. Very atmospheric.

Who cares zombie-swingers from Venus on the Yellow Submarine? by bukt 2013-09-01T03:37:00

Simply amazing. Nothing I could say here would do your game justice. I will say that you definitely know your target audience and this game had so many small, but great details. Gave you 5/5 in 6 categories and that is extremely high praise coming from me as I am quite strict with voting. The only downside to this game is that it will inevitably place higher than mine in judging. Well done.

Who cares zombie-swingers from Venus on the Yellow Submarine? by bukt 2013-09-01T03:39:00

Do you guys have any other games? Would love a link to check out some if they exist :)

SWEAT by reheated 2013-08-31T19:48:00

Got to admit when I first looked at this it didn't really stand apart from other LD games but I played right through to the end and loved it. SPOILERS INCOMING.. I probably had the biggest laugh out of any game thus far when the dinosaur was revealed, and then telefragged shortly after. Great fun levels, designed very well and the difficulty curve was pretty spot on. Not really sure that I'd change anything if I made it myself, perhaps it could use a bit of polish but was great other than that! Nice work for the 48 hours.

Clocked In by rylgh 2013-09-01T19:38:00

Nice! Very fun. I felt both relaxed yet pressured at the same time whilst playing. I think the music was a good fit, and really liked the simple graphical style. I particularly liked how the balls would change shape depending on movement. I made it all the way through, and only lost my first life on the last level (so close!). Difficulty curve seemed pretty much spot on as well. Very nice twist on maze gameplay and just plain fun. Good work, especially for the 48!

Nerv by arcticleaf 2013-08-27T15:56:00

Seems like a decent concept. Shame you didn't get more time with it. One comment I have is that the movement speed felt very slow, and also I list of controls could help.

Stay Alive by Jools64 2013-09-03T04:58:00

Very punishing. Fun, polished, graphics were great. Personally the game was a little too hardcore for me, the fact that I had to start from scratch if I messed up a tiny bit was off-putting, especially as not all of the game mechanics were explained (food/water bars) until after I died. Had a few attempts though and still had plenty of fun. Also liked the little bits of story each day. Quite an amazing feat for the time you had. Good work :)

Stay Alive by Jools64 2013-09-03T05:07:00

Also forgot to mention I would have liked to have seen WASD keys as an option! Still, nice work though!

10Sec Switch by Arrow-x 2013-08-30T17:29:00

Pretty fun! A bit short, but good work for your first LD for sure :)

Kougeki by ResonantCraft 2013-09-02T23:03:00

Nice game, really like the concept. I found that the gameplay itself was a bit limited and that my planning phases mostly just consist of me resetting my barrel trap for the most part. Would be nice to see a bit more feedback on what is incoming whilst you are in planning, and a few more options for how to arrange what you can bring to defend (rather than just bringing everything). Still, this was fun and the graphics/sounds were quite nice too! Would really like to see how this came out with a bit more time. Not a bad effort! :)

10s dash by shalmezad 2013-09-10T06:25:00

Nice. Good use of the theme. A little short but that's the nature of these things. Movement wasn't quite there for me but pretty close. I managed to finish on my third try.

Haraka by gikdew 2013-08-30T14:15:00

Not sure if I should give points for humor because my attempts at platforming were extremely laughable. Nice entry! Solid graphics, controls, level design. Reliving my SMB nightmares with the added pressure of the 10 second countdown. I really wanted to finish this one but alas I had to give up due to noobism.

10 seconds to live by lightsoda 2013-09-01T04:02:00

I have to ask, what's with the avatar? matthias_zarzecki http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=3880
uses a very similar one, cat with frog head. Is this a thing?

10 seconds to live by lightsoda 2013-09-01T04:09:00

Interesting game, I felt it could use a bit more depth though. I just went around doing positive interactions with everyone, tried a negative once, found a knife, ran out of people to talk to so started murdering everyone simply to reduce the timer and finish the game. And I always play the good guy in games! Would love to see what you could come up with given a bit more time.

Endless Run by gmaker 2013-08-30T15:09:00

Amazing graphics and quite fun, but I felt like I was doing pretty badly a lot of the time but wasn't being punished for it. Very charming game though and a nice entry all-round.

10 Seconds and The Wizard by michail 2013-09-02T20:17:00

Not a bad one. Kept me entertained to the end. Could use a bit more work/polish but that can be said of all games made in 48 hours :P

10 Second Defence by Christina Nordlander 2013-09-02T21:51:00

Really cool, nice setting, but pretty confusing for me. Found myself wanting to do plenty of things that I couldn't, or having to do them in a certain order, and also getting the keywords wrong a lot of the time.

A couple of examples:
I had the idea of using the sleeping capsule in the burner but couldn't find out the words to do that.
After finding out how to do it by reading the first bit of the walkthrough the hitman was hit by my trap with the sleeping capsule and fluid on the floor and I tried to kill him with the knife (Violence isn't the answer was the response).
After having another go, I tried to use glue on the knife, and then the knife on the wall, but had to put glue on the wall first.
I also tried to enter the word 'use' a lot where I thought it could apply but wasn't able to do so.

Still, really cool to see this kind of game done to this quality given the time, and a nice very use of the theme. Good job :)

Hallucivian by Hypnohustla 2013-09-02T21:00:00

Retry? Ok! Pretty fun game but the physics felt a bit out of control which made the game feel a bit more luck based. A couple of the levels I only completed due to pure chance and just retrying again and again. Still, this was a very fun game and had nice graphics. Only realised after playing that this was actually taller than I could see! I actually ended up playing the game without the graphical timer as that was off-screen. Nice game though, very nice for the 48 hours! Good work :)

KARMA by nhmllr 2013-08-29T02:53:00

I did it! Very fun game. Challenging, but not frustratingly so. Good job.

Duel by zlowrance 2013-08-31T18:30:00

I died defending my honour! Nice twist on rock-paper-scissors style of game, but inevitably luck based which I'm not too big a fan of. Nice art and the music/sound was very good, particularly for the setting. Also liked the little taunts.

10 Seconds of Grey by Almax27 2013-09-01T17:39:00

Nice idea and quite charming, but a bit confusing and especially overwhelming given the 10 second time limits. Looks like this could be good if you had a bit more time, but you did very well for your first jam!

MegaPunch by Nick Weihs 2013-08-30T14:23:00

Looks and feels really nice but no one was online with me when I went to play so I might have to come back again to rate it!

10 Second Maze by Bjeaurn 2013-09-01T03:55:00

Yay I did it! Not a bad game but there were a couple of gripes I had with it. Losing money meant that some of the levels then became impossible to beat so I had to restart the game. Thankfully after I learned about the safe zones I didn't have too much to worry about. I did feel the panic created quite a good mood to the game. Only other criticisms were the collision was a bit off, and that my character spazzed out sometimes after going back to home or a new area. I think this could be really good game with a bit more work/polish and it stands itself apart from the normal maze-game genre.

Save a Life by miklyha 2013-09-03T05:05:00

Graphics were pretty good, gameplay was a little jarring at first but when I became used to it it became fun and then even a little too easy. A bit short also. All that said, really liked your take on the theme and thought this was a decent game all-round.

Time Surge by Solifuge 2013-08-31T20:52:00

Amazing game. Like others have said the backtracking is a bit of a pain but pretty much every other element of the game (graphics, sounds, story, puzzles) is really well done. Very polished and very good work!

Love Your Pets by DaanVanYperen 2013-09-03T02:48:00

Not a bad one, shame you didn't get more time on it. Would have really benefited from some sound in particular given the setting. Liked the setting, graphics were nice, story was good/funny, gameplay seemed like it could have shone with a few more mechanics. Like others have said controls could use a bit of work, was hard to control basic movement around corners. Grates could also stand out as a hazard a bit more somehow. Might be worth going for Jam next time because it looks like you have some great ideas here that might be a little beyond the scope of 48 hours. Still, what you do have is pretty nice.

YOGH@)!$Q#4$%7GDF: Destroyer of Keyboards! by greysphere 2013-09-03T03:34:00

Simple but fun. 3736 is my high score. Not much to say really! Good work.

Ten Zero-Zero by Tigro 2013-08-27T16:24:00

I, er.. that was something! Loved the humor but couldn't figure out how to get myself to the second level. Sounds were great :P

Chicks And Dungeons by Kotstulle 2013-09-05T11:43:00

Funny that you used link's awakening stuff because when I saw your screenshots that's the first thing that came to my mind :) Nice little game, felt just like a gameboy game and took me straight back into childhood memories. Levels felt a bit punishing but controls felt nice. With a bit more time on it this could be really good :)

Dan Dynamite by loxo 2013-08-31T16:59:00

Don't have much to say that hasn't been said by others already. Shame you didn't have more time, might be worth looking at making a Jam entry rather than the 48 next time.

Day of the Vampire by drilltail 2013-09-01T18:02:00

Nice little game. At first I thought it was a bit basic but the third level was really fun to play through. Liked the little character and thought this was pretty good all round. Would like to see some more abilities for the character (perhaps a double jump to use those wings for), and maybe a bit more polish but other than that this was very enjoyable, and very nice work for the 48 hours. Good work.

Extreme Zombie Blood Withdrawals by brobutter 2013-09-02T18:34:00

Pretty fun. I liked this camera effects when shooting and the music fit pretty well. Found it a little bit easy and didn't need to buy any guns other than shotgun to get through the game without any issues. Still, it was fun and satisfying to play. Good work for the 48!

A Living Shell by kraj0t 2013-09-01T19:00:00

Very interesting game. The ending freaked me out quite a bit, though I'm still not sure it had properly finished before I had to close it out of paranoia that it would completely terrify me. I read your notes on this page before I played the game, and whilst I was playing I felt as though you were communicating your own story to me, and it felt very 'connected'. I think that's a good sign of an artist. Sorry to hear about whatever happened in your life, and I wish you the best.

Explosive Space Shuffleboard, A Cautionary Tale of Militant Bueracracy by Ian Small 2013-09-03T03:05:00

Shame you didn't get more time, looks like a nice start.

The Last Memory by Lokarunith 2013-09-02T22:52:00

Not a bad game. I couldn't get the good ending :( I liked the tone that the game had but I felt that the gameplay was a bit conflicting with it. Still, it was definitely worth playing, good job :)

Royal Defenestrator by BasmanovDaniil 2013-08-31T15:59:00

Wasn't quite sure what was going on... I think I won (The Queen got her glasses finally) but nothing happened so I threw her out the window :P Humour was amazing, loved that I could interact with pretty much everything. Nice work.

10 Seconds Before the World Ends by Lustdante 2013-08-31T21:10:00

Pretty fun, nice take on the theme. In my game humanity perished even after I threw the device in :( I really liked the way the title came in as part of the dialogue. All in all, not really anything to complain about. Good work!

Fight The Urge by Keith Evans 2013-09-03T03:22:00

lol
Not much more to say than that! Very nice take on the theme, obviously good on humour. Would have liked to have seen it with the extra levels and sounds.

SlimeZone by SayersLabs 2013-08-31T22:33:00

Every one of the games we make we try to put a slime in it, so this one was a must play for me! This was a good concept but would have used a bit of polish and I felt it was a bit short also. I would have liked to have seen mouse aiming for attacks and maybe multiple capture points or something to make the game a little more interesting. Not a bad entry though!

Totem Wars by PeaCe 2013-08-27T16:34:00

Nice! Really clever twist on the original. At first I found it a little difficult to know what was going on (even after reading tutorial), and in the end I still wasn't sure what each 'item' did. But still really enjoyed it and thought the graphics were great too.

Entropy by Supercannon 2013-08-31T22:44:00

Pretty good for the time you had. Thought the basic idea was good but would have liked to have seen some stuff that really mixed it up more. Even with all the random stuff happening in the game my gameplay didn't really change from any of it so it would have been cool to see some powerups or guns spawn in randomly also. Also the it would of been nice to get some more use out of the jump. Other than that this was pretty good. Difficulty curve seemed spot on and the music/sounds were nice too. Good work!

Interesting. Very simple and yet quite complex. Not much to say that others haven't. The aiming animation lends a lot to the tone. I shot the first time, second time I clicked elsewhere on the screen to see if it would fire somewhere else (nope!), then third time I spared him to see what happened. I didn't feel bad at all for it (it's a game afterall), but it did make me think about the natural reaction to kill in videogames as a default state, even though I don't think it's a real issue (again as it's a game).

Lil' Kingdom Strives To Survive by lucidlarva 2013-09-02T23:12:00

Liked the tone of this game and found it fun, but the controls really let it down. This combined with the strict time element really creates a lot of frustration. Would have loved to see what this could become if those issues were dealt with though. Not a bad effort all-up.

Time Perception by Reyn 2013-09-10T06:37:00

Nice. Director's cut was amazing. I need to work on my timing though. Welcome to Ludum Dare! Hope you come back for plenty more.

Two Deep by Roks87 2013-08-31T17:34:00

Amazing artwork but found the game a bit basic, even though I could not complete it (couldn't find Brakes and Common Sense for the life of me). Also, not sure if you are aware but you were reviewed by Indie Game Magazine! Here is the link: http://www.indiegamemag.com/indie-intermission-two-deep-who-needs-common-sense-anyway/

The Deep Dark by psema4 2013-08-27T18:19:00

I really like the concept but it was a bit overwhelming to figure out what was going on.

Ghost Pirate's Ship of Treasures by immanuela 2013-08-31T16:11:00

Pretty fun but a bit simple and a bit too short. I liked the greed aspect to it, would have liked to have seen harder levels where you have to make solid choices about which treasures you go for and which you have to leave behind.

10 Second Army by Literal Games 2013-08-31T16:23:00

Great concept and pretty fun to play. Graphics were pretty good and I liked the animations. I felt the 10 second theme was a little forced for this type of game, in the earlier levels I was waiting too long and in the later ones I had to keep just pressing reset until I got a feel of what was in the level. I would also have liked to have seen a way to exit back to the main menu because I accidently selected one level twice and didn't want to have to play through it again. Other than that though a pretty nice game! Good work.

Mind-Controlled Monster by Todnut 2013-09-01T04:21:00

Cool concept. Nice little game, cute graphics/sounds. Don't have too much to say about it other than that! Good job.

'Dungeon Escape' by designatius 2013-08-27T16:03:00

Nice little game. Simple, but fun. Only thing I would have to say I didn't like is that the game started at the first level again when I died. Got myself to level 6 before I had to sadly give up :( Good work for your first LD!

LEGACY by DanHayesGamer 2013-09-01T20:49:00

Really liked the setting for this, but the gameplay could use a lot of work. For a long, long time I couldn't work out the controls. I was using WASD but didn't really know what was going on and at one stage I actually thought I was playing as the smaller fish. Mostly I think this was because it didn't really feel as though I was moving until I could really see the terrain come a lot closer into view. I liked the music and thought it was awesome that you had time to produce that within the 48 hours on top of making a game like this. Would have really liked to have seen how this game turned out with some more work, and perhaps a different theme attached to it.

The Duellists by jay griffin 2013-09-03T05:26:00

Nice. Short and simple, but quite a fun little distraction. Nicely polished, fantastic graphics, and the tone and setting were very nice too. Well done!

The Choice by matthewvermaak 2013-09-02T18:55:00

I like what you were trying to do here but I was pretty sure I knew how it would go from the start so it didn't have as much of an impact on me. A good direction for the theme though for sure.

Legend of DerpElf : Quest for the Banana of Time by kattehus 2013-09-03T05:11:00

Like you pointed out game is a bit rough around the edges but the idea looks pretty solid. Reminds me of pacman a little bit but with the enemies kind of kiteable as they dont have to follow paths. Would be good to see what this had been like with more time.

The 10 (other) Seconds Journey by PaperBlurt 2013-08-31T16:47:00

A bit confusing and most of my stuff was just guessing/luck really. Nonetheless still enjoyable.

CaptureZ by whydoidoit 2013-09-01T00:11:00

Nice entry. Was fun to just roll around and jump off cliffs. Controls felt a little difficult when trying to make sharp turns to fence in stuff. Overall I found the game quite relaxing though, and the music certainly helped that. Pretty good entry, especially for the 48. Good work!

Hobaton Kingdom by Feffers 2013-08-27T18:24:00

Nice concept. Didn't really have anyone to play with so couldn't try that aspect of the game myself, but I like the idea of it. One thing to note is I got stuck inbetween some stairs and couldn't get out from that.

Hourglass by DoubleS 2013-08-31T18:00:00

Pretty fun but I felt like the orbs spawn too close to where you need to be so I had almost no time to react to some of them. Decent use of theme and nice sound effects!

Defuse in 10 seconds by archaeometrician 2013-09-01T19:50:00

Da da da daa da da daa da daaa! I did it! Final Fantasy Fanfare FTW! (unintended aliteration :P) Nice game! Took me three tries but really wanted to finish it. Gameplay and music worked to great effect with the mood, felt very tense as it should. I had my 'oh no' moments and my victory, and it was damn satisfying! Good work.

The Clock's Curse by M.O.U 2013-09-01T17:15:00

Quite a nice concept and the setting was good also. I felt that most of my gameplay was just guessing then adjusting which felt a bit off. I also felt that the game needed some sort of guide. Other than that, a pretty good effort all-round. Good work.

Ten Seconds To Home by MrSecretUnlock 2013-09-05T12:06:00

Nice one. Only issue I had was that I used the medical dart on the guy before I could pick up the papers, then couldn't get them after that so had to restart. Very nice take on the theme, and fun to play. Good work :)

The Dollhouse Curse by Saf 2013-09-03T07:05:00

Nice one. Really polished for the 48 hours. Graphics were great, sounds added to the tone quite well. Gameplay was fun but I felt like it needed to be expanded a bit in later levels with some more mechanics. Overall, pretty good job :)

Antidote by Antidote 2013-09-05T11:18:00

Nice one. Not sure if it's a bug but picking up some gems looked like it was actually decreasing my money instead of increasing. Fun game, good graphics and sounds. Found it a little punishing to start from the start again, and also didn't like the knockback on the dead slimes when they were blocking my way entirely. Other than that this seemed really polished and was very nice work for a weekend!

Placeholder by teamenschede 2013-08-31T14:44:00

This game is taking a lot longer than I thought it would to get through so I'll post my thoughts now and some when I die. Currently at round 27 (234 kills) and finding that I basically have infinite energy at this point and am not seeing a point where I can die in sight. My first couple of attempts I got pretty owned until I figured out how to make the most use out of my initial resources and the first couple of rounds. Really enjoying so far, will comment and rate after I finish :)

Placeholder by teamenschede 2013-08-31T14:50:00

Round 40 (305 kills), enemies getting noticeably faster now and starting to kill off my beacons pretty quickly. Still have a lot of energy (1236) but can see that I will die eventually.

Placeholder by teamenschede 2013-08-31T15:04:00

Round 60 (428 kills, 740 energy). Things are really easily killing off beacons now. Managed to learn a strategy to make them bounce a little bit between beacons but can't figure which ones they will target now, seems a little random and so beacons are becoming less and less effective.

Placeholder by teamenschede 2013-08-31T15:10:00

Round 66 (476 kills, 494 energy) Things are overwhelming my defences, taking out large chunks of my infrastructure quickly and without effort. Given up hope of beating teamenschede's score. I'm not going to make it out alive. Tell my wife I love her!

Placeholder by teamenschede 2013-08-31T15:14:00

Round 69 (516 kills, 8 energy) Spent all my energy rashly in a last ditch effort to try and kill portals. Things could not be held back. I am dead. GG

Placeholder by teamenschede 2013-08-31T15:16:00

Sorry for all the spam posting! Final thoughts: Fantasticly fun game, great idea and feels nicely tuned. At first I thought the game was going to be way too easy (after the initial learning curve) but it really escalated and provided a nice challenge all the way through. That said, I feel it could have progressed a little faster. Only issue I felt was that I couldn't be sure which beacon things would go to if I had a few overlapping and thus couldn't really plan out properly. Amazing game though, most fun one I have played this LD yet. Very nice work.

Proletarian Ninja X by deepnight 2013-08-31T15:36:00

Holy crap. Infuriatingly hard, but very satisfying. Graphics and sound amazing as always. Felt very powerful playing this. Loved the little attentions to detail such as jumping over furniture. Only criticisms I could give is that some levels felt out of place in the difficulty curve, the 3rd and I think 5th in particular. Also, I felt that getting caught for discovering a corpse was a bit too brutal given that the guy catching me would die with the same shuriken (pretty much instantly). Could not finish this game but got a lot further than I thought I would and felt very satisfied by that.

Every Ten Seconds A Kitten Drowns by matthias_zarzecki 2013-08-29T03:11:00

I am not very good at saving kittens :( Nice entry! Only issue I found is that one kitten spawned on a mine.

Pro Crastinator by Jedi 2013-09-03T02:33:00

I lost (Drove my lawnmower off the edge of the world as I was curious :P). Too bad about running out of time, perhaps the project was a little big in scope? I like the lawnmowing game and would have been happy with just that as a game if it were fleshed out a little more! Not a bad effort, hope you come back for next time :)

10 Sec Hero by StabAlarash 2013-08-31T18:41:00

I won.. eventually :P Really like the art but don't think the 10 second theme really worked for this game. I had to read the comments before I learned I could actually equip items and that they carry over from death. I think the game could do well with a lot more feedback from the interface and perhaps some added sound too. Still, had a bit of fun playing and it's a pretty good effort for the 48 hours!

Turnip Archer by LastResortGames 2013-08-27T16:46:00

Not a bad game but the difficulty could use some tweaking. Right up until the end of the game I found it too easy and never had to even think about using a powerup, but in the last 10-20 seconds before I died I felt myself completely overwhelmed and lost really quickly. I also felt the button mashing to be a bit spammy and would have liked quick thinking to play a bigger part. Having said all that I still enjoyed this quite a bit and thought it was pretty good in general :) My score was 2,521,280.

The Parameters Have Been Altered by wbobeirne 2013-08-31T17:53:00

Holy crap how did you manage to put so many trivia facts in? Good job! Oh, and the game was pretty fun too, if a touch too hard.

The Ten Second War by Cake_Catastrophe 2013-09-01T01:00:00

Nice, if a little too easy after I realised stuff respawned. Quite fun and even a bit addictive! Would love to see this with a bit of polish and maybe some sounds.

Card Smack by qualia 2013-09-02T20:11:00

Looks solid, but I didn't find it very intuitive at all, even after reading the tutorial. That coupled with the large array of keys to control and the 10 seconds left me with a lot of panic, frustration and confusion. Having said all that, this game looks like it could be pretty good with a bit more work and I liked the visuals of it.

Factory Wars by The Evil Cult 2013-08-31T16:28:00

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Personally it's been a bit of a shock for me to see the level of compliments we have been getting and it's great motivation for us to continue working on games in the future.

Unfortunately we haven't got access to a mac to test on but if we work on this game post-compo I'm sure this will be something we will work towards.

Factory Wars by The Evil Cult 2013-08-31T18:19:00

@wbobeirne
We were actually going to have walls for the top/bottom paths to make them harder to get to! We wanted the majority of the combat to be on the middle path with the other lanes meant as alternative bonuses as they had the extra resources. We also wanted to include health bars but did not get the time! They will definitely be included if we do a post-compo version.

@Jeremias
Initially we wanted to block the lanes completely by making some sort of tiles to seperate them (cliffs, water, etc) but we ran out of time so had to face the issue of the mobs moving between paths :(

Thanks again all for the feedback!

Factory Wars by The Evil Cult 2013-09-01T04:11:00

Thanks! The punchbot was the first bit of art I did for this game and one of the first things I've ever animated before. I was pretty happy with how it came out!

LD28 — You Only Get One

Shine by AdventureIslands 2013-12-20T08:10:00

Been following your games since Tiny Island and this one again didn't disappoint :) Fantastic art, good music, loved the way you put the story into it, and a very unique and cool gameplay concept! Challenge level was pretty spot on also, last level took me about 5-6 tries maybe, and almost got to the point of platformer rage as it was hard to concentrate on controlling the orb and the avatar at once but it wasn't too frustrating either. If I had to make any suggestions I'd say make the light colliding with stuff a bit more forgiving, maybe have it take a couple of hits to die or make the hitbox a bit smaller, but it was pretty good as it was anyway.

Shine by AdventureIslands 2014-01-07T02:58:00

Congrats!

Hatsumei Mage by OrangeeZ 2013-12-20T16:39:00

Interesting one. I really like the concept here but I was a bit confused because the spell removes all of a type of item, it doesn't leave them with a type it like you said in the description. Graphics were great, love the style. Combat felt a bit luck-based. Would love to see this game expanded upon because it looks like a solid idea :)

Burning Love by Ted Brown 2013-12-20T08:24:00

Really like the concept for this, I thought the rain levels were especially cool. I felt like the controls were a little awkward though, and that made me put this down before I could finish. Still pretty fun though, and great work for 48 hours! Also I'll add that the dying sound was great and humour in general was awesome :)

Mother Love by Zener 2013-12-21T20:01:00

Nice! Very cute and pretty fun. Movement could use a little work, was pretty hard in particular to move with the moving platforms. I quite like what you did with the theme. Nice work, especially for the 48!

VisiOne by ThatGuy 2013-12-18T19:00:00

Cool concept, initially a bit confusing and frustrating though. I did have a bit of fun after a couple of goes though.

Shadow Night by ParaPup 2013-12-18T18:39:00

Looks like a good start. I'd be paying a bit more attention to the mouse controls, the sensitivity felt really weird between up/down and left/right.

Xbowan by VikingJonathan 2013-12-20T06:29:00

Took me awhile to get it but I really liked the idea once I learned what was going on. I think the brightness I had was a bit too frustrating to work with in the end though.

UniSwarm by ChaseC 2013-12-18T18:44:00

Fun concept, quite similar to Galcon fusion. Feels to be lacking a little depth though, and luck can really mess you up. Still, good job :)

Uno Terra by Diptoman 2013-12-20T14:47:00

Your game was so addictive that I burnt my dinner.

Uno Terra by Diptoman 2013-12-20T14:54:00

Okay! Salvaged dinner, managed to play some more. 4 days 19 hours is my best. I think my previous comment speaks to the fun of the game, which I obviously enjoyed, but this was pretty good all-round. Liked the music, art, gameplay, and theme. Balance could use a bit of work (to be expected of a LD game), but this was probably the most fun game I have played so far.

Uno Terra by Diptoman 2013-12-20T14:57:00

Oh, one criticism I forgot to mention (sorry for the triple post), was that the learning curve was a little steep for an LD game, I felt like too much information was thrown at me at once, whereas I'd prefer to learn through playing. But it wasn't too bad though, I stuck with it past the curve and my patience is normally pretty poor!

Creator Story Saga Tycoon by Bruno Massa 2013-12-20T07:36:00

WHY!? Oh god why..? I already have had cookie clicker and clicking bad open for weeks and now I get this. The girlfriend joke made me lol (not easy to do). Sound is a bit of an issue as you have noticed, also the window size looks like it was obviously made for a phone and was a bit difficult/frustrating to work with on PC. Other than that good work :)

Cure the infected! by archaeometrician 2013-12-18T19:11:00

Cool idea. Balancing was a bit off though, the first 4 levels I won before the virus spread to more than 2-3 people at most, but then level 5 it all kind of exploded and although I was able to keep curing people it just looked like it wasn't going to end. Movement was also a little awkward because it was very slow to decelerate. Could be fun with a bit of tweaking. Good work for 48 hours.

The Selene Project by sandbaydev 2013-12-20T07:16:00

I really like the idea of this game. Moral decisions in gaming are one of my most favourite mechanics. However, I feel like the ending was pretty much just reading my answers back to me, and not really extrapolating them into consequences. Also I felt I had to spend almost all of my energy trying to understand what the audio was saying and even then I missed some of it, which took away a lot of the mood for me. Despite all that this was a really cool entry and some of the questions struck that thought-provoking string I was hoping for when I loaded this game up. This would be cool to see expanded upon. Good job! Looking forward to see what you come up with next time :)

Drone! by FistBumpGames 2013-12-20T08:52:00

Nice. Good job all-round. Was the number of alien swarms random? It felt like there were more in some of my tries and less in others, which felt like I was being punished by bad luck a bit. Only other criticism would be that sometimes I 'slid' off the console mid-way through typing stuff, perhaps the hitbox for them could be a bit bigger. Other than that, like I said, good job :)

Lumen by Nelien 2013-12-20T08:44:00

Nice. Great use of the theme. Game felt a bit tense in places when the light had gotten away from me a bit and I had to traverse the darkness to get it back (not a bad thing). Not sure what else to say really, but well done!

You Only Get One Life to Live by jsjwooowooo 2013-12-20T08:36:00

A nice concept and great start, but feels like this game could be a lot more. Ending also felt kind of abrupt. That said I love the core mechanic, simple graphics and the audio. Maybe having some texture to the background even if it's just tiny odd pixels might help your feeling of movement issue. Would love to see this expanded upon but good job for 48 hours.

Dungeon Raider by The Evil Cult 2013-12-24T04:58:00

Wow, lots of comments! Thankyou everyone for your feedback.

In regards to the theme, one of our first thoughts when hearing "You only get one" was a typical roguelike game, where you only get one life, and as a result random elements and quick progression are introduced to make for fun when replaying after death. We maybe didn't get enough time to implement everything we wanted to take from the roguelike genre, but we think we got the core elements down and were pretty satisfied with that. Unfortunately for people unfamiliar with roguelikes the theme might not really shine through :(

Gold was something we wanted to have a use for in game, but we didn't have enough time to implement. We wanted to have a shop room that you could randomly encounter and purchase items from. In our second Ludum Dare game 'Stranded' we had pots in our game similar to this and one request we kept getting was to put something in them, so we are moving forwards at least! We also think that even though gold isn't useful in game, it still feels pretty fun to loot.

@SuperPokeunicorn
The scrolls don't actually cost mana. Not sure what was happening there for you.

Again thanks everyone for taking the time to download, play, and comment. We worked really hard on this so it's really great to see people take the time to post some thoughtful comments about it here.

Thanks for the review. :) You can contact me by email at vaelzan@evilcult.net (I can pass on messages to the rest of the team if you send them there).

I think there may be a bug in the current version where later levels have issues (it's either in the item drop code or the monster spawning code, since they're the only things that change due to level you're on) - I'll see if I can reproduce it when I get home from my vacation in a few days and fix it.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Interplanetary Harvester by Sestren 2014-08-28T08:59:00

Nice :) Took awhile to get used to it but was quite fun once I did. Normally I don't have much patience for puzzle type games but I felt this one struck a nice balance where you didn't have to be exactly right in your placement of everything but still had to keep it in mind. You could even probably include a timed mode! I played till the end and was having fun the whole time. Well done :)

Nexxuz by rustybroomhandle 2014-08-28T07:48:00

Great art style, loved that you used minecraft to make assets in. The gameplay was quite fun, I took my time to go through and make sure I had explored each world and gotten all the upgrades. I found that I was simply just holding space the whole time though and only focusing on dodging and aiming (Still very fun!). Good work!

outhack_ by bogdan.tana 2014-08-28T04:23:00

Cool concept. I liked the Art and Sound. I wasn't sure why my hacking attempts failed a lot of the time as I hadn't moved but I got up to round 5 though :)

Altrein's Portal by MacronCPP 2014-08-28T10:38:00

I loved the drag select mode for placement of defenses and upgrades, and how the placing/upgrading of defenses worked once I had discovered this feature. It would have been nice to drag in all directions but overall: you created a good, challenging game.

How to Adventure by brogrammers 2014-08-28T09:20:00

Nice game. Cute aesthetic, but... is that the Minecraft sword? Pretty fun, controls get a bit awkward if you move the camera in a different direction though. Difficulty was a bit easy, I died once and bought a bunch of upgrades then had no trouble the whole way through. Really liked the concept of the floating worlds with bridges. I feel like the world could use a bit more colour like the player and mobs have as they looked great! All-around not a bad game :)

Where have you been so long? by Satyre 2014-08-28T04:38:00

I think part of the message you were trying to convey was lost on me, but it did get me thinking. I think the music fit quite nicely. I played until I got all eyes and 'woke up'.

LyftOff! by mcapraro 2014-08-28T07:29:00

Simple game but amazingly polished! Really loved the aesthetic, particularly the amount of character the aliens conveyed and the stuff orbiting around the planets. Could easily see myself playing much longer if there was a little more to do as the game progressed. Very nice work :)

Precipice of Eternity by tjp7154 2014-08-28T11:43:00

I did not quite complete, but it was a good challenge making it as far as I did. Thanks for the game.

Spacecat Marines by matthias_zarzecki 2014-08-28T08:44:00

Yay I rock! Interesting gameplay having to find the weak spots in your team's defense and cover the gaps. Really enjoyed it! Difficulty was pretty spot on too. I also really liked how all the missions had a bit of a backstory. Well done, especially for the 48!

Gunship Diplomacy by blubberquark 2014-08-28T11:17:00

Good fun game, I found myself simply favouring one faction was thus disappointed not to see the game end when they gained dominance, but I am aware that was not the goal, so good work.

Prometheus Unbound by The Evil Cult 2014-08-26T21:55:00

Hey doos, thanks for playing! I have a feeling that what you encountered was us not giving enough information on how to play (we wanted to make tooltips for everything but ran out of time!) - if you don't have enough free workers when you create a building, the building won't operate. You can use the minus and plus buttons next to the building to adjust worker levels.

Also potentially useful, the food processing plants take either seafood or crops each resource tick, but won't process both at the same time, so if you have a mixture, they'll alternate (the logic at the moment is specifically crops if you have enough, seafood if you don't - not ideal, but we considered it done enough for LD). If we release a post-LD version I'll rewrite it to work on both at the same time.

Prometheus Unbound by The Evil Cult 2014-08-29T00:13:00

Yeah, there was a bug there when destroying buildings that don't use workers (such as the ship factory). I've uploaded a fixed version since you downloaded it (just bug fixes, no new content).

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

The Tower by Chaoseed 2014-12-19T08:54:00

Great twist on a text based game, going into it I thought it would be the standard text game but was pleasantly surprised that you had used the theme so well. I felt a bit clumsy just randomly exploring everywhere without much purpose but I really enjoyed the visual element showing me where I was on the screen.

Count Explodem in : "From Behind" by schizokoa 2014-12-19T08:34:00

Pretty fun. Took me awhile to get that I could drag everything around. Second time around had a bit of a bug where nothing would spawn. My top score was 690! The gun felt really good to fire with the graphics and sound attached to that.

Survive the Attack by alhvi 2014-12-19T08:42:00

Love the concept here :) Beat the game on my first go, got 19893 pts. Really good work for the jam and was quite fun to play. Would love to have seen a medic included!

Nixtopia by Saker Games 2014-12-09T18:19:00

Hey, I'm sorry that you couldn't run our game. I've uploaded a fixed version - for some reason Eclipse wasn't creating a manifest file with the exported files. All good now, feel free to take another look and let us know what you think.

I'm downloading your game now and I'll give it a go a little later on today. :)

Terra by Canyon 2014-12-19T08:46:00

Great idea for expanding on a traditional game. Against a computer player this feels a bit like blind luck so not really my sort of thing, but I think this would be awesome played two player. Kind of reminded me of a pokemon battle for some reason :P Great work for 48 hours!

Kaleidoscope by Madball 2014-12-19T11:53:00

A-maze-ing! Lots of fun, I really loved that the player ends up creating quite an elaborate background just through playing. The spinning direction change thing was unique and quite fun. Personally I enjoyed the levels without the red hazards, and just running around collecting stuff without too much worry. I thought it was an interesting choice that failing puts you to the next level, I liked that in that it was unique and lets you move on rather than getting stuck. Great work for 48 hours!
