Tiny World - Ideas in the Sea of Thought by uprightpath 2012-04-23T16:01:00

I agree, this looks like it has potential, but it's just not there. There's a lot of stuff going on and it's impossible to decipher what is happening. What are the swirly things? Why are they moving? What are they going to do? What's my objective? What do all the buttons do?

Some of these could be mitigated by a text instructions on the entry post, but I agree with Suese, perhaps the idea was too big for a 48 hour game.

Thanks for participating and best of luck!

"Vesta: Galactic Convict Colony by Phased 2012-04-24T06:20:00

At first mowing down guys was surprisingly fun. Got a little tedious after a while - I wish something had told me how many were left. And man, that was a hard boss. Liked the story too.

Flight of the Ladybug by robcozzens 2012-05-06T01:52:00

Nice job on making a really simple quick game. Super fun for about a minute or so. Would have loved to see something that extended it or made it longer, but I thought it was well polished.

Deity by Blake 2012-04-25T04:30:00

Really production values here - the smoke looks great, the people animate really nicely, good music and SFX. However I thing jeffz made a suggestion that points to the only issue I had - the main gameplay is based around waiting for these guys to get into place. It feels pretty slow at some points. But overall really great idea, feels nice and original.

Tininess Defense by The-Force 2012-04-24T05:39:00

I like the graphics and how the little guy says "Can you help me?" I got stuck - my guy died almost immediately (Doh!) and then I was just sitting there. Fun to run around the ball though.

Tinysasters by Volute 2012-05-09T05:11:00

Great music, great looks and animations, good design, high marks all around! I really like it - I think that the long term goals and progression could use a bit of work, but it's really fun. Nice job!

Atomic Galaxy Factory by MrBarnslig 2012-04-24T06:21:00

Thanks! I went back and forth on how to tune the difficulty - when it gets more aggressive you can wait to get more Energy automatically and then invest in more Defense Upgrades.

Atomic Galaxy Factory by MrBarnslig 2012-04-24T15:38:00

Ack, that's one bug that must have fallen through the cracks. :-P

Atomic Galaxy Factory by MrBarnslig 2012-04-25T01:59:00

Thanks everyone! Wow, skipping from level 1 to a universe - nice! I hadn't thought of that. Would definitely be something to tune against if there was another version.

Atomic Galaxy Factory by MrBarnslig 2012-04-26T02:50:00

No way to skip, sorry. I would have liked to make the tutorial more integrated into the game, but didnt have the time. Thanks for playing!

LHC by Datw 2012-05-09T05:03:00

Great job on finishing LD! Unfortunately I couldn't figure out what to do, and the instructions didn't help. They told me lots about what was positive and what was negative, but I wasn't able to figure out my goal or objective. As far as I could tell pressing space would turn things grey...I do like the LHC though.

Tiny Island by Zathnic 2012-04-23T16:11:00

Great level design, looks like you put a lot of thought into your stages.

A Tenthlings Quest by zenasprime 2012-04-24T06:12:00

Wow, what an intro! You guys must have spent tons of time on that. It was really high production value. Wish that more time had been put into the game - I got to the princess in about two minutes, but it was really nice. The lighting really makes this game shine (no pun intended!)

When Worlds Collide by AlwaysGeeky 2012-04-24T05:34:00

Nice graphics, definitely has the Minecraft thing going on. There isn't really much of a game - I didn't really have any choices to make, just keep clicking "Comet Storm" over and over.

Light the Lighthouse by GranaDa 2012-05-06T01:46:00

Really amazing art. Also loved the music. Sadly it was way too hard for me to get past the beginning. Really tough difficulty ramp and tight spaces, made worse by the loooooong load times to restart. But the story and the world were incredible, awesome job, glad I played it!

Atom Factory by datahaven 2012-05-03T05:33:00

Fun little graphics and sounds. Would have liked to see some other level of complexity. I feel like the strategy is just "grab the balls, try to make combos if you can". Maybe there was something I was missing. Great work on coming up with a new concept though.

Recluse by chambers 2012-05-05T21:16:00

Ha! Really clever. When the screen moved at first I literally said "Whoooooaaaa..." out loud. Nice work. Superb level design too, very Metroid like, how new abilities unlock new areas. My only gripe is that it's a bit slow, so when you die it's demoralizing. Nice job!

Dude, where's my planet by Zamando 2012-05-03T05:48:00

Wow, incredible art, really cool. I love it all, the backgrounds, the clouds, the little guy, the painting type planets. Didn't really match the title though, which was more goofy I thought. The music was great too, reminded me of Super Mario RPG.

Epiquest - mini edition by tjhei 2012-05-03T06:09:00

Great job on your first LD game! I wish that there was more of a game, the battle system was very interesting, reminded me of critical points in Paper Mario battles. But after the 10th guy and seeing that nothing was changing except the text, I got kind of bored.

My Little Dungeon by thegreystudios 2012-05-03T06:17:00

Pretty interesting idea! I wish that didn't need the enter key to move down a level, however. Also you get stuck when you run out of gold - perhaps a slow boat option that gives you a trickle of coins? The graphics and music were nice too. Great job!

Tiny Basket World by stromchin 2012-05-04T05:20:00

I think you have something here. If you wanted to extend the gameplay maybe you could have different challenges with different distances/heights of baskets for different levels, and only a limited number of shots. Nice job!

The Last Rainbow by Vandash 2012-05-04T05:16:00

Great graphics, the stars and the meteorite effects are awesome. I felt like there were a lot of separate things going on - you're trying to bounce the ball, and then suddenly there's this separate game of shooting the meteorites that comes in. And like some other players it took a long time before I figured out why I was losing - I think the white continents on the planet do a disservice to the white buildings you're supposed to hit. Nice entry, it was fun.

Giant Apple Pie by mmarcati 2012-05-03T06:12:00

Haha! Pretty funny, I liked the concept a lot. I wish there was a bit more game to it, more ways I could approach a pie shop. But the giant idea is funny. It's hard to get to those pie shops!

Circus Flea by Ted Brown 2012-05-06T01:39:00

Great take on the theme. The narration and sounds of the mom and kids were really charming and fun. Nice work!

Oh Boy, Oh Boy by Digitalis 2012-05-03T06:21:00

Putting together planets is fun, if anything this LD has determined that! I wish I had a little more agency in the process though - I didn't feel like me moving around the planet did a whole lot - things kind of moved forward on their own, albeit a bit slower. Also the meteorites come in a bit too fast to do much about it. That said, graphics were great, has a nice feel to it. Thanks!

Cruel space by Stalker_23b 2012-05-05T18:36:00

Amazing graphics, I couldn't figure out what to do though. I ran around and collected these blue boxes, and tried to shoot things but no dice. Wasn't able to figure out how to "launch" to other planets unfortunately. Frame rate was also an issue, but it looked stunning. I enjoyed just running around the planet to see the effects. :-)

The Elves end the Shoemaker by Nora Shishi 2012-05-04T05:10:00

Ha! This was really fun, albeit incredibly short. The control scheme was a little unintuitive, I expected to use space or X and the arrow keys for a side scroller, it kind of reminded me of that Mario AI competition. But the artwork and the music were spot on NES era. Love the Street Fighter beat up the car gameplay. Nice work!

Desire by zazery 2012-04-25T04:40:00

The graphics are nice, it's a nice bright color palette. There were two main issues I had though: one is small - the game screen was actually too big for my browser, so I had a hard time mousing over the guys at the bottom and reading the text at the top (probably not a problem for most people). The bigger issue was that I felt like I wasn't getting much feedback or pushback. You don't get the score until the end, and you aren't compelled to get a certain score, so it makes placing the guys and the flags feel meaningless. I just ended up placing guys randomly, and it said "You got 133!", and I thought to myself, "So what?" I wish there were some kind of scenarios, like a certain board with certain guys and I had to get a certain score. But looks like a great concept I like the direction a lot - the idea of having to piece together this puzzle is fun.

Dont Touch the Button by amidos2006 2012-05-03T05:40:00

I really love the scaling concept. Really can't get enough of it. I was sad when dying sends you all the way back to the beginning, would have liked save points.

Mitochondrion by Rybar 2012-05-06T01:59:00

Liked the idea and the visuals. I lit up all the yellow blobs but unfortunately nothing happened. Would have loved to see more areas. Nice work!

Marble Worlds by Daniel X. Moore 2012-05-06T02:12:00

I liked the dramatic story intro. Level design could use some work - the lava world continually got me trapped on the island with the treasure chest. I know this probably means that I wasn't doing it in the right sequence, but it was frustrating to have to go all the way back. Would have liked some smaller puzzles first instead of one big one. Great job on finishing LD!

Rambros by Black Ships Fill the Sky 2012-05-05T20:24:00

The different characters were REALLY fun. Few things are better than variety in what would otherwise be a normal shoot em up. I think that having them be randomly selected other than letting you pick was a good choice too - makes them seem more valuable. I only had one major gripe: everyone loves terrain destruction, but it allows you to get yourself into a jam. If you accidentally blow away a lot of the next area and create an impassable pit, then you're stuck (as far as I can tell). Since it's fun to blow stuff up, this happens a lot.

Great graphics and music though. Nice work!

Scape by intmain 2012-05-05T21:03:00

Fun concept! The level design made it a bit hard to pick up on the idea - I felt like when a new concept was introduced then it also came along with a really hard level, as opposed to a new concept with a new concept and a simple level to just get it. Very nicely polished compared to a lot of the other games. Would love to see more!

so small by davidpeter 2012-04-24T05:29:00

I love the artwork! Having a hard time piecing the story/world together, but it was fun to click and find the next thing to do.

DINO-CAB by EricTheCoolDude 2012-05-05T18:42:00

Ha! This made me laugh, nice job. It was pretty hard though, unfortunate that the most fun thing (knocking over buildings) is the thing you AREN'T allowed to do. But it was fun and had a great presentation. Thanks for making it!

Astrosurf by Jimjam 2012-05-03T05:38:00

Really great graphics, wow, impressive for such a short time period. I wasn't exactly sure what my goal was, there's population, but I didn't know what affected it. Pretty clear that the black holes kill me but I didn't know what I was trying to do or where to go. Cool concept, just would have liked the gameplay a bit more developed. Nice work!

Accretion by bastiandantilus 2012-04-24T05:54:00

Concept is fun, I like making the planets bigger and bigger - it felt cool when one became a star. Would have loved a bit more pushback - I felt like it was just a matter of time. Nice mechanic of having the guy run on top!

Drop of Life by MrTwister 2012-05-03T06:06:00

Interesting twist on an interesting concept. It was hard for me to develop a strategy - I wish there were some easier goals that kind of eased me into it. Had a hard time getting more than a few moves. Loved the sprite artwork too.

Scorched Earth by Jungorend 2012-04-24T06:05:00

The music was nice. A little confused...you say that you can make 3 moves with the soldier, but I was only able to make one before I had to switch turns. Not super clear what the objective is - you say that I need to destroy all the enemies, but I don't know what an "enemy" is or how to do that.

Congrats on finishing your first LD!

Angle Isle by Rusty Moyher 2012-05-05T18:29:00

This is the perfect 48h game. Simple and fun, completely polished from beginning to end. Awesome work. I like the music, reminds me of old gameboy games. And for some reason, the SWOOOOOOSH areas were extra fun, felt like a nice end cap on each little "stage"

0x17's-TinyWorld by 0x17 2012-05-03T05:14:00

I consider myself pretty good at platformers, but the sliding nature of this one made it really difficult. Also there was a lot going on - stars flying the back and the brightly colored blocks made it difficult to tell what to focus on. I can't believe you made all that music and sounds though - nice work.

Great job on completing your first LD! It's a great accomplishment!

Downsize the World! by shinD 2012-05-03T05:43:00

The intro was hilarious. "So it's a god game. Basically..." Wasn't able to figure out what I was supposed to do, and unfortunately a wall of text is similar to no text at all in terms of helpfulness. Nice music though!

A Super Mario Summary by johanp 2012-05-04T05:01:00

Everyone loves Mario, you can't go wrong there! Nice work!

Slime Buster Micro by brenthamel 2012-05-09T04:59:00

Amazing graphics, amazing audio. The framerate made things difficult and I felt like my flamethrower kind of sucked :-). I think this is the only HTML5 game I saw!

Lilac.27 by oddgoo 2012-05-05T17:25:00

This is one of the most impressive games I've played. The worlds were so fun and different, the bloom effect made everything nice and shiny, and the geometry was impressive. Very whimsical music too, lots of fun. Even the start button was great! One minor gripe is the rotating. Controlling a camera separate from the character is always difficult for players.

Awesome job, thanks!

Rocket Boat by RHY3756547 2012-05-03T06:31:00

Amazing graphics. And Mochi integration? That's crazy!

A little hard to figure out what to do. I thought you had to shoot all the boats, so I did, and it said I was too slow?

Probably the most fun part was bouncing over the little hills. That's awesome, and I don't know why.

Nice work!

Spheres.. by Nibelung 2012-05-04T05:07:00

The art and the music reminded me of Startropics - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b7x30_E0Ko

Unfortunately I got stuck probably a lot earlier than you intended. I tried to get in the doors and climb up the tree and everything was locked. Killed all the animals, harvested the plants, and then starved to death. Would have liked a few more clues, but perhaps you wanted it to be challenging.

Thanks for sharing!

Tiny Conflict by Redream 2012-05-04T05:35:00

This game was really fun. Lots of thought and vectors to progress. I love how you can save up and invest in your planet - upgrade systems are usually a surefire way to make players feel good. I wish there was a bit more of a metagame though, some sort of progression. I was sad that when I conquered another planet, my old one started attacking me. I wish that the old one became part of my empire. Really fun though, played it for a long while. Great, great work!

The Underground Court by caranha 2012-05-03T06:26:00

Fits the theme perfectly! Tuned to be pretty difficult - the one hit kills with the cats along with the quickly starving queen make it really hard. Not sure if that was your intention. Moving around is a bit fast as well. If it was a bit more reasonably paced it could really have something. Looking forward to build!

Planet 161 by saint11 2012-05-05T20:51:00

All around high marks. Nice level design, the tutorials and concepts are introduced in a great order. I got stuck on the level with the white blocks though, couldn't figure out what to do. But the music was great, animations were great, gameplay was fun and classic platformer. Can definitely tell it's in your genre wheelhouse.

p.s. Looks like you have quite a following, 10k plays on Kongregate already! Nice!

The Pioneer by Moth 2012-05-03T05:09:00

The level generation system must have been fun to write. I feel like the enemies, the moves, and the platforming were kind of standard, however. I would have loved to see something that surprised me, either in the levels or the gameplay. The music was really fantastic, took me back to old school Megaman. Nice work!

Dragons of Pluto by Lusmu 2012-05-03T05:52:00

Really fun to fly around. I didn't think the controls were too hard, but I wasn't sure of my objective. Ate a bunch of green blobs, and nothing much happened. But the planet felt so alive, even with just a few things going on. The geyser helped. Nice work!

Trucking the Universe by FrozenCow 2012-05-05T20:08:00

Interesting idea, I always like one button game explorations. I got hit by that big pipe mouth thing and then the game froze. Liked the rotating texture effect on the planets! Points for humor.

70 seconds left by emveyh 2012-05-03T05:29:00

Music was perfect for the theme. Wish there was a little more to do, but it felt really satisfying to burn the buildings for some reason. Good job!

Tiny World God by Lawrence Esswood 2012-05-03T05:26:00

This is really interesting. The physics are fun to play with on their own. It's sad that I feel like you might lose a lot of people from not having the menu obvious - I didn't find it until I read the comments here. Making a little planet and having stuff flying around is inherently fun. There's definitely something here, agree with the others, worth exploring after the competition.
