LD27 — 10 Seconds

1.863 million miles by netmute 2013-08-28T07:28:00

What a plot twist xD
The text could've been faster at the beginning or better, totally controled by the player (I read pretty fast), also that sudden now-you-see-me-now-you-dont teleportation felt pretty awkward.
But besides that the pixel art is great and it has potential for an amazing full game, hope to see some progress in the future ;D

Graveyard Shift by Kortuga 2013-08-27T03:51:00

Unexpectedly moody, didn't even got to the first boss (my current pc is kinda of shitty), but really liked the experience.
The game is simple, but I noticed your effort in there, it's impressive how you managed to create something solid and in 3D at the same time in only 48 hours, good job.

<-Saccade-> by Rave Radbury 2013-08-28T02:32:00

Hello thear, fancy reviewer!
After seeing your face in so many comments I was pretty damn curious to check out your 48hour piece of art, and wow, can't say i'm darn impressed.
This is some genious work, implementate time dilating illusion was something that I would never think being included on a game before, you really should start working in a full release, I would buy that gem without thinking twice. Hope you make to the top.

The Saddest Landscape by BradleySmith 2013-08-26T10:00:00

Yet one of the best games I've played so far
The drawing, the mood.. it's almost perfect
The saddest thing is that isn't complete yet, but I guess you can't make that much in 48h. It would be just impossible.

Boxer's Seconds by madk 2013-08-26T06:03:00

DID I JUST KILLED AN ANT? (srsly, man, I thought it was some real deal 2-3 times)
Well, this one is pretty solidin the amidst of so many buggy and incomplete feeling games, it has that Dukope (www.dukope.com) feel to it, excellently polished, if It wasn't for a certain dose of repetition, I really would say that every man is pretty much unique (and has some pretty cool quirks)(Talking about man, you could've tried adding some females too, if it was supposed to have any, I didn't get them in my gameplay run).
In my opinion, you just got one thing wrong, and it was theme part, although you stimulate the hyperfast hiring/killing thing, this is a game that is best played slowly and patiently for achieving best results, I don't know if it was supposed to have a time bonus or something, if there is one, I'm sorry couldn't notice. (But I liked the tick tick clock-"oh shit, i'm out of time"-part)
This is yet, another game that I would recommend you, author, to implement and develop deeper, it would make an awesome full game if released with some story and/or other cool features ;D.

Blank Screen :(

Jack is gonna Die! by psychomonster 2013-08-27T03:57:00

Didn't beat it, but at least I know the ending by the screenshots
Well, didn't like this one so much, but I found the lack of a timer thing interesting, it gives an unique tension that makes you getting pills not matter what time do you have, this would've been frustrating in a long game, but in this one, it works nice.
Some more animation and sense would help.

OHNOES by zedutchgandalf 2013-08-27T03:32:00

At first I thought it was unbeatable after the second level, but my friend did it, so I said "why not" and made it. (Best part was actually discovering that we suicided in different ways)
Loved the ending, got me by surprise.
I would recommend some sound and music next time ;D

Chez Angelo Almost Home by EdoMiyamoto 2013-08-28T04:38:00

I feel kinda of lost, I imagine that I should've played something before this..
Well besides, my feel of complete lack of context, the surreal setting + music made for a quite unique experience in this devastating situation. I look forward for a sequel, also will check the prequel you mentioned.
P.S.: Missed a better interpretation of the theme.

Interim by Figglewatts 2013-08-28T04:05:00

I liked the way you used the perspective on this one, The thrill of finish on a level on the run without dying pretty much makes the whole experience, missed some sounds and music though, it would've helped a lot.
I find the presence of a level editor very impressive, but I couldn't manage to use it, hope I'm the only one on this boat, level editors in 48hrs games are pretty rare.

Audenary by Andrio 2013-08-26T04:35:00

That was amazing, really.
But where is the source code?

Chicken Philosophy by Dwel 2013-08-27T02:59:00

This is some deep shit

Anti - Explosive Babies by ToadieTechnika 2013-08-26T11:25:00

Didn't play it all (yet)
So still don't know if any surprises are awaiting for me at the end xD, but dude I will be hearing those beats for quite time, I mean, Is there any other game in this compo with SOUNDTRACK? dont think so.
Random, good physics, simple, functional, challenging and fun, there is nothing left to ask for.
Excellent Job, Roan!

Lair Raid by Parappa 2013-08-26T05:12:00

"Diablo's minion grows stronger"
OMG gotta kill 'em all!
I really didn't know what the fuck was going on, but then I read your notes, and it became easier to abstract the concept.
This game is pretty much automatic and you could add some instructions in the main menu or whatever.
But you know f*ck it! My wizard's name is Ygritte AND THIS MUSIC IS TOO AWESOME!
P.S.: Gotta ask, did you use flixel?
P.S.S.: I laughed my ass off with raincole's commentary LOL

Stellar Countdown by Khopa 2013-08-28T06:48:00

19080

Hell, that was pretty addicting for something so simple, liked the concept, you could improve it into something bigger, but didn't like the music so much
P.S.: What's with the girl?

ApocalypTEN by SlayerEXE 2013-08-26T12:34:00

DAMN YOU LEVEL 14!
Simple and.. kinda of fun
The only thing I would suggest you is: Try to put more effort next time, this one is not bad, but you could done much better if you got dedicated to it (Capitally music, music and sounds make an huge difference in any game atmosphere)

QuickWar by XtremePrime 2013-08-26T12:36:00

No offense, dude, but this look rather like an prototype then a game itself, music is pretty fine though

what is a shame, because the concept seems pretty awesome to me :(

Dungeon Crawling Simulator 2013 by MrBlade 2013-08-26T04:51:00

Although is a pretty amazing job to code such a game in C++, like, with no assets, no libraries, nothing at all, I wouldn't recommend the same next time you try to make a game. I can kinda of feel the effort you put in there, but we gotta admit it, it's pretty buggy and fond for some bizarre errors, and it's pretty counter intuitive. There are pretty much good game makers (even text adventure making ones), try to play with that, and save your coding pr0ness for real engines (like Unity, maybe xD)
Nevertheless, I liked your 10-second idea, you could invest on that to make a good future game.

Sixth of a Minute by Tork 2013-08-26T06:54:00

simplistic but nice
Liked the idea of health system, and how you seamlessly go from one level to another, gives a pretty chaotic feeling.
Missed a menu and/or a exit button, It would be a good idea for the windows release.

Micro Management Simulator 2013 by daOyster 2013-08-26T06:47:00

Plain and simple, who could ask for more?
Also, I have to agree with @tork, this would be awesome in Touch devices.
P.S.: Loved those glasses.

Time Loopy by DaleP 2013-08-26T07:09:00

yay time-travelling! \o/
I just hoped that would be more gameplay time, but the concept it's pretty awesome, you explored the theme quite well.
First time-travel game, I play in this LD, I have a strange feeling that this is one of many.
Just quoting @Andrewves
"...I really like the main character art..."

Don't let Them Hug you! by Jicken 2013-08-26T12:52:00

"You stop them from hugging you by shooting them, like any normal person would!"
Well, that synopsis made my day, really xD
Jicken, your game is playable, but I wouldn't say "real". It misses some basic concepts and this bothers me a little.
First, I got nothing against endless games, on the contrary, I pretty much like them, but reading one comment and another makes me conclude that your game runs until the computer can't even process it anymore, some level design or "wave" planning would've helped. Also, a miss a crosshair or anything that gives me a reference on where the hell i'm shooting at. Another thing, your game is not losable, kind of misses that feeling of challenge, since nothing "punishes" you for being hugged or whatever you are trying running of from.
I liked music though, it's pretty cool.

Are you? by Drubert 2013-08-28T05:21:00

Don't know about the others, but for me this game was truly amazing!
Although the gameplay was almost about absent, the story was so well written, that was enought to get me completely sucked in, even for a short experience, what is pretty impressive.
It would be awesome to see you working in a full-fledged story-driven game.

Tick Tick Mother F***er by eckcz 2013-08-26T12:20:00

DAT MENU SCREEN
Just.. wow..
I never thought I would see a dubbed game in any Ludum Dare.. ever.
The sounds are kinda low, I had to pump the volume to the maximum, only then I could hear those clocks' voice and your guitar normally, talking about guitar, you could've improved on the soundtrack and tried to compose something original, just a suggestion for the next time.
The gameplay is kinda quirky, making it difficulty to play smoothly in the final levels, leading to a unfair difficulty
But amidst all of that, your game shines in the AWESOMENESS, and there is no way of rating AWESOME.

Best LD27 so far
Incredible graphics, nice sfxr-like sounds, addicting gameplay (can't stop playing xD), hilarious names and so on
Oh.. and unbelievably polished for 48h parameters, this is just amazing.
Definetely going to be checking your site from now on. :DD

Dead End Corner 10 second Wave Evolving Zombie Games by mirzasan 2013-08-26T06:28:00

Pretty good, hard as hell, but good.
First zombie-themed game of this ludum dare that I'm playing, and I don't expect to see many.
This game reminded me of those classic NG games from the 2000's, when indies developed games just for fun (like you), in the amidst of this Unity wave, it's good some good ol' .swf.
Loved the way you "painted" the Title and Menu buttons on the wall, also I think that Game Over is pretty slow, dont know if it is my shitty computer, but even then it's just a little detail in this big pile of awesome.
P.S.: Also loved the 10-second evolvin thing, ingenious!

Also, itens are pretty hard to see

Mayfly by targaciej 2013-08-26T10:21:00

At first, I thought it was some kind of "Explore what you can in 10 sec", and I was like "Oh, what the hell, at least the graphics are awesome", and then I found out those pink things are collectable and the whole thing turned upside-down in my mind, couldn't make past the level 3 though, not because it's impossible, it's really because i'm lazy.
Nice way of using the theme, simple and creative, the controls felt kind of clunky though.
P.S.: the main character deeply reminded me of those Rayman's lums xD

Dance Instructor by st33d 2013-08-28T06:40:00

Using a timer in a text game, that's something, very nice way to pratice my dynamic reading xD
Still don't know If I managed to beat it, there's no more options and the rewind doesn't work, so I think maybe this is it.
Also, creative title.

10 seconds to LAUNCH!! by senseidav 2013-08-26T06:17:00

Mashing the buttons, is that the only option?
jk

Dude, your game is pretty simplistic, in a way I would say, you didn't put too much effort in that.
Ok, I can be wrong, my own game is pretty much minimalist too, and I had a hell of work to make that sh*t work properly on construct, but you could at least try to explore something different, srsly, it's pretty dumb, I don't know if you love rockets or anything, but if you do try to put some extra effort next time, even your game lasts 10-seconds or something xD

The only one by JaJ 2013-08-28T05:45:00

Nicely done, good drawings, excellent score, unbelievably solid.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Dwarves Manager, NES Game by Khopa 2014-04-29T08:07:00

Fantastic premise, but the execution was really bad.

The gameplay is pretty basic and confusing, the fireballs kinda glitched a little (so sometimes I didn't know how and where to dodge) and the motivation to keep playing is real low, you should've invested some time in giving that gold some value.

But, well, I can't criticize too much, I ought to praise your initiative in coding at low-level and for NES in a 48-hour solo jam, that is pretty risky and is commendable that you made something this solid, amazing.

Also, I checked some screenshots of the original game on the play store, it looks pretty neat, it's a shame I don't have a smartphone to test it out.

Congratulations for participating.

Frustration by parDal 2014-05-01T06:31:00

Guys, thanks for the reviews, I loved them, know that I read each one with attention and care.

So, I'm planning doing a revised version of the game, removing the bugs, adding a little more content and polishing some aspects. Feel free to report any redundant parts, errors in general and suggest anything that you think that might add something.

Also,

@TwoScoop, could you say what type of computer you used to play?

@arrogant.gamer, Could you elaborate more? I couldn't understand where you found difficulty.

@Suese and @lonewookie, I thought of a solution, I'm already working on it, thanks for noticing/commenting (it's going to the revised version)

Underground Racing 2 by Zelun 2014-04-28T03:21:00

Well, I gotta say, just loved that music, I really want to know what the woman is saying but guess I'll never know.

Initially, I thought it was a normal top-down 2D mario kart-like racing game, but then, I saw the magic behind the "underground" part, amazing, would love to see this in a polished and less rushed version.

Also, oh my god, how the hell you coded that AI in less than 48 hours? That's just unbelievable.

Ben Eath: The Surf Ace by Afal 2014-04-29T08:56:00

I just can't stop laughing when I read this title.
Simply the best "interpretation" of the theme until now.

HAHAHA OH MY GOD THIS MUSIC.

Well, I'm happy to see someone programming in the same engine as myself (like, really, I didn't see any other game in GM:S until now). First of all, I think you noticed that Gaem maker isn't the best engine for programming adventures, next time I would suggest you to test coding in AGS or similars.

Second, the gameplay is pretty bad even for 48 hours, you could made the dialogs trigger by button pressing + collision and not just the latter. The design is pretty disorganized, for example, I gave the bucket to the kid without even knowing he wanted it (I spoke to him first time AFTER getting it) that could happen with any character as they are scattered along the beach without anything limiting the player to talk them, this freedom can make the players confused if they don't follow the order of actions you had in mind.

Besides that, I laughed a lot with the bechdel test part and the ending was just fantastic, it would be nice to see a longer and well-polished remake of this one, you have potential.

Congratulations for participating.

Paranoia by WetDesertRock 2014-04-28T04:00:00

Well, I took a while to beat this one, but I managed to make it.

For starters, the game is really well polished, good graphics, nice music and couldn't find any bugs, and we're talking about LOVE programming here and not some kind of construct drag 'n' drop stuff, so yes, pretty amazing.

About the game itself, the gameplay is pretty simple, but effective, your major error was not developing it much, I didn't have any big difficulties until the last level, that really made me stop to think. With some effort can be worked in a pretty decent puzzle smartphone game (if you remove the story, oh, and talking about story.)

The idea was not bad, but your implementation in-game is pretty shallow and uninteresting, couldn't relate to any character and the ending was pretty disappointing.

Hope I wasn't too bold, my game is not all that good either, 48 hours of hard work isn't easy to anyone.

Congratulations for participating.

pr0tip: Next time, if possible, include the instructions in-game.

CTS by Ping78 2014-04-29T08:32:00

10 hours? Like... are you serious? Damn.

I'm not a 3D modeling specialist but those tunnels looked a little complex to be made and coded in so little time and i'm not even talking about the lighting and the torch.

About the gameplay as a whole, I'll have to quote @hexabeast "The spiders are easy to escape, just run forward", ironically I was the polar opposite, because of this long-time bug-hate of mine I prioritized purging those little monsters, what was kinda frustrating, because no matter how I spammed the mouse buttons and tried to kept a distance, I always got some damage, but not little damage, I finished the game with about half of my HP, I don't know if that's supposed to be normal for an such short experience (Understand that I'm not criticizing, I'm just pointing out that in the little "fight or flight" choice in your game, "fighting" tends to be disadvantageous, which is ironic, considering the size of your enemies).

Oh, and somehow I managed to get lost in your little cave, normally you could see that as a design fail, but I would say the complete opposite, getting lost in a game like yours contributes with the feeling of claustrophobia and added some fine difficulty aside from those hell bugs.

Anyway, congratulations for participating. I'm very curious to know what would you do if you'd worked the full time. Hope you participate the next LD so we find out.

P.S.: for what CTS stands out?

Beneath the Surface by mandrake 2014-04-29T09:52:00

Simplicity is a keyword for your game.

You managed to make what a few managed to accomplish (and I exclude myself from this), a good, solid and entertaining experience.

First, I would like to praise the pixel art, it's just... fine. (Really, I don't know how to express it in words, it's not excellent, but not bad either, considering that the latter is the common ground among the compo participants, you did it very well.)

Second, the gameplay is effective, the sliding mechanic is kinda hard first, but as soon as you get the practice, it turns to a nice challenge, considering that the difficulty constantly turns up, it's even better.

I just missed some music, well, maybe you didn't have the time.

Beneath the Surf Ace by Scruffylooking 2014-04-29T08:34:00

Gray Surface by Geckoo1337 2014-04-29T09:29:00

For a 7 hour game, this is incredibly well polished, It's not the first game i'm reviewing by someone who completed the jam in less time and I am inclined to ask the same question that I asked for those like you: If you did THIS in 7 hours, I wonder, what would you made if you explored your full 48-hour potential?

@pansapiens pratically resumed any kind review I could do, but I can contribute with one small detail, the cube sneaking thing is very tense, that's nice, but it's too punishing because you don't have any clues that it's close to sneak you and since it's one hit kill, that's pretty unfair (if it wasn't, the damage that it could make would be a good signal, although a pretty bad one), good horror games add some bizarre and frightening sound or voice just before some monster/creature sneak up behind you, that not only creates terror, it also alerts players of incoming danger as well, in another words, a pretty convenient mechanic, you could've done something similar.

Well, that's about it, congratulations for participating.

Surface Of The Skin by Suese 2014-04-28T04:14:00

Ok, I tried playing your game for 10 minutes like you recommended, and... I couldn't quite get it, it felt surreal and the music was fine, but the I didn't feel the interactivity part, maybe I need to play some more times, but I'll rate based on the experience anyway.

Also, I felt you put quite some work on this one, good job.

LD33 — You are the Monster

Sewer Monster City by bitslap 2015-08-28T22:13:00

Good game.

Amazing pixel-art, incredible sound work and music and solid gameplay, albeit it's too retro hard to me.

Impressive that you made this in 48h, nice work.

Brainless Attack by ReddogStone 2015-08-31T18:06:00

Flawless game.

Please consider making a post-LD version.

P.S.: somehow the brainless wrapped through the map, it happened when I switched tabs, but I don't know if it was that what really caused it.

Separated by rxi 2015-08-28T22:30:00

Short and interesting experience.

The pixel art is pretty good, as well as the sound design. The music is very moody and congruent to the experience.

I wonder if I've missed something.

sector.33 by ziege 2015-08-24T21:58:00

Nice game.

The existence of a start menu is really a difference in the compo and showing the controls in-game is a big plus.

So off we go to the game, I really liked the minimalistic graphics, although I still not understand what am I and what are my enemies, are we our respective footsteps? If yes, why my feet have mouths and has to ability to consume the enemy's feet? Anyway, it portraits the gameplay precisely (I know what where I am and what I'm doing), and that's what matters. Or maybe not that precisely, I didn't see any indicators of the projectiles that my enemies were shooting, I know that bullets are fast, but using my leap to dodge bullets would be interesting mechanic, think about it if you are planning to do a post-LD version or similar (Also, any indicator, even if it was instantaneous would add to the game feel, it doesn't seem right to die to "nothing").

I don't know if you wanted to make a intense hardcore experience, but you managed to do it, the lack of checkpoints takes the difficulty to another level, I couldn't manage to beat the game, adding some between sectors wouldn't hurt, but it's your game, do what seems more fit.

Last but not least, the absence of sound really bothers me, any sound would greatly add to your game and wouldn't require much time, especially if you used sfxr or something like it.

In the end, it's a good game, congratulations.

P.S.: For some reason, I can't manage to leap to the upper-right diagonal.

EyeShot by parDal 2015-08-27T11:42:00

@phil, I'll consider that in the Post-LD version, thanks for the feedback

The Club by Steve | tacospice 2015-08-27T13:01:00

Good, but I didn't get what does this have to do with the theme, maybe I needed to finish to understand (classic plot twist, maybe)

I didn't like the platforming, it doesn't feel intuitive and sometimes doesn't even work properly, I fell a lot from slopes and sometimes I pressed down to go down one platform but it went down two and I fell to death (lots of times). Maybe I'm just a casual though, I'm not a platformer player myself. By the way, I quit playing when I felt at a pastcheckpoint and I respawned there and not in the one I was originally, you really should work on that, if you are planning on making a post-LD version.

Also, sometimes I died to a shooting enemy while respawning from a checkpoint, it happened just one time, so I really don't know how it happened.

On the good side, the overall graphics are very nice and setting is somewhat unique. I loved how your blood splatter stayed even after you respawned. The music is fine and the sound work is solid.

The Virus by okmmjyygv 2015-08-27T13:22:00

This game is pretty hard

There's not much to comment on this one, the graphics are good, the gameplay is innovative and hard, the sounds are ok.

Are you a physician? This vocabulary seems pretty advanced for a common person, especially english-speaking people.

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-28T21:11:00

Nice concept, very original.

I think you could have made the acceleration be optional, like an extra difficult, I really would like to test my skills at linear horizontal velocity.

GhostMan by Mac70 2015-08-24T11:30:00

It's pretty bad.

The graphics are uninspired, the animations are lifeless and the restart doesn't work

Also, the controls are quite stiffy.

The idea is good though, you really could keep working on it, it may lead to something nice next time.

Subject Status: Alive! by Flatgub 2015-08-24T12:32:00

I loved the music build up on each level, although it hurt my ears a little.

Also the lighting FX is very well done, but I didn't seem the darkness mechanic working anywhere in the game, maybe I'm just dumb.

I noticed that some npcs are completely
used as props, mainly the scientists, you could add some kind of reward for killing everyone, it would add a nice extra challenge since I can just stealth out the place in the first levels.

The platforming parts are mostly trial and error, you could somehow force the player to learn about the red buttons jumps before subjecting then to a "jump right or get laserd to death" session.

The later levels got quite hard and strategical, I loved that, but I think you abused the difficulty curve a litte.

In the end, it's too hardcore for me, couldn't finish your game, sorry.

Controls are good, but could have an keyboard alternative, clicking repeatedly through a grid doesn't feel good.

Also, I like to imagine that the creature's perception of time is based on individual ticks instead of continuous flow, I know it's just a game mechanic, but it's cool to think about it.

Overall is a good game, an impressive feat considering that you made this gem in 48 hours, keep up the good work.

Cecile and Clyde by Claire1605 2015-08-31T17:43:00

Looks unfinished.

The art is good, although I missed a stationary sprite, since you used some kind of skeletal animation it wouldn't be so hard to make it, if I'm wrong disregard this last part.

As for the gameplay, the concept is very solid and I loved the central mechanic, I think you could work on that post LD, the level design is ok as it avails the central idea very well, but still very simplish and that invisible wall at the end doesn't help.

The game feels unresponsive, the only indicator that I'm losing health are the disappearing bullets and the subtraction of the health variable which is very forgettable since it is quite small and generic.

Sometimes, the bullets go full barrel roll (start rotating and fly away), I really don't know what triggers this, it happens almost randomly.

Sound and music would be a great improvement over this initial build.

The morality system works well, but I couldn't find any immediate consequences for it, maybe it does in the ending but I couldn't find all the antidotes, so I can't really say anything about that.

Lady Bug by dickpoelen 2015-08-28T22:02:00

Simply amazing. Best LD game, I've played so far.

I was going to make some criticism, but looks like mrjorts already did it pretty greatly and you already implemented his suggestions, so I'm kinda late.

I'll be sure to check post-jam version later.

The Monster Within by Cheetoturkey 2015-08-31T18:47:00

It's pretty bad.

The proportion of things is fucked up, the art is jarring, the jumping is weird, the story is uninteresting and I can't attack.

Also, I felt at a bottomless pit just because I went left at the beginning.

The music is quite nice though, I hope it is yours, because it contrasts too much with the overall quality of the game.

I played the windows version.

Loopholes by skiper4e 2015-08-24T22:28:00

Ok, first off, the buttons aren't working correctly, they only execute their functions when I click slightly above the word(s) in it

Second, the papers have their own depths (or z-order, don't know how it is called in Unity), so I can never read the bottom one without removing the others and that's kinda hard because...

Third, it's never clear how am I supposed to toss the paper out, I tried tossing it to the left, up and down, and I thought you forgot to create a "tossing mechanic" until I realized it was supposed to be tossed to right, an ingame hint or tutorial would be useful.

Fourth, I barely read the first case and I could easily pick the right loophole, because the right option had a huge contrast with the others and was the only one using actual information of my client.

I dropped the game after this, maybe it would get more challenging, but in the overall aspect it didn't captivate me.

C'mon, man, your idea was awesome, but try harder next time.

Squirrel Eiserloh by SquirrelEiserloh 2015-08-24T21:30:00

Interesting concept, and somewhat fun experience.

For starters, I really liked the intro, it really helped opening up the game, the sound effects were also great, you dubbed it really nicely (I'm deducing that this was your voice, really nice impressions you did there), also the slowing heartbeat to indicate your hunger was really neat. One strange thing I noticed is that sometimes the conversion sound plays two times in a row, I don't know if it supposed to be intentional, but sometimes happens, sometimes don't.

I really liked your idea of a energysucking zombie instead of a regular braineating one, the hopping mechanic also interestingly subverts the slow-walking stereotype, one mechanic that made a little confused at first was the conversion one, in my first playthrough I just killed all the humans and one time accidentally I converted one. On my second playthrough, after re-reading your description I realized all I needed to do was partially suck their qi, although, you explain how to do it here in the webpage, you forgot to do it in-game, the only instructions I receive when playing is "click to hop" and "kill them all", I know it's nitpicking, but the player is always dumb. (Also, I'm being kind of hypocritical, my game doesn't have any ingame instructions at all)

Also, when I die, I have to close and open the game again, one restart button would be really nice... And a pause button too, one time I died just because I went to the notepad write a part of this review.

Overall is an acceptable game, you are in the right path.

Monster by Gaga 2015-08-28T21:21:00

An ok walking simulator with an ok narrative and progression.

The camera feels stiffy and the absence of sound really kills the atmosphere

I like the fact that I can see my own body though.

Hungry Monster Attacks by garvon 2015-08-25T12:43:00

Fun and simple.

It's very strange visually, but I would not count that as a downside.

The mechanics are solid, functional, minimal and challenging, reminds me of games such as Tetris and Pacman.

The sound effects are nice.

Overall, a good game.

Monster can-can by nassi 2015-08-31T18:20:00

90 shakes.

Try to make something more complex next time, we would like to play and rate your games (for more than 5 minutes) too.

BrainZ by tphx 2015-08-27T12:10:00

It's pretty bad.

The jump arc is bizarre, the hitboxes are confusing (I lost a life one time, although I was one box above the enemy) and the overall feel is not good.

On the other side, I liked your level design, I can see that there are ways of finishing the levels without getting damage, considering that, I think you should polish it and make a post-LD version, maybe nobody will play it but, at least, is excellent practice.

PONY! by Phil Strahl 2015-08-27T11:49:00

Uncomplete but yet very charming.

Your pixel art is amazing and the sound work is very solid.

The only flaws besides the absence of a winning condition is the collision, sometimes I can't hit the enemy even when I'm very close to him, his hitbox must be very small, and in the middle wall there is little indication that you can pass under it in that specific section.

I liked your minimal intro and desktop icon, maybe they are unnecessary details (considering you didn't complete the game) but for me they still add to the game's quality.

By the way, Is your game based on Counter Strike or something? This map is clearly some kind of retro de_dust.

P.S.: You really should consider teamworking with a coder, if you don't already.

What?

The Letterpress Imp by StaNov 2015-08-25T11:06:00

Lovely cutscenes and story, your voice is very charming

The complete lack of challenge is a let down though.

In the end, a fun experience, it was the first game that made me laugh here at LD.

P.S.: You really should consider being an animator or an voice actor, it would be interesting to see your scene direction and/or voice with the collaboration of some Ludumdarians who made interesting gameplay mechanics but completely lacked of charisma and overall game feel.

Zombie Rush by facelesstheone 2015-08-25T12:16:00

gamedev noobish my ass, this is pretty solid and fun!

The visual aspects are amazing, I really liked the 8bit 3D thing, maybe there's a tons of game like that out there but I've never seen one, it's a nice twist in the top-down perspective. The 3d models are simple but accomplishes their mission in situating me in-game, I know that I'm a town and there's people to kill, also dat cat.

The game works great, the controls are simple and the mechanic is interesting. I liked how my horde are at same time my allies and my lives, it's an interesting twist to this "infestation" mechanic, believe me, you are not the first gamedev to use this idea in this compo, but by far you gave it the best execution.

When the horde gets bigger, the game gets a little of sound pollution but that's completely forgivable for a compo entry.

You really should consider making a full version of this with a more challenging level design and enemy variation.

P.S.: "You are the zombie, you know what to do", I laughed reading this.

Tales of the Memory Dragon by raducumiczzz 2015-08-27T11:57:00

Great start, mate.

The gameplay is innovative and very solid at the same time, the music is nice and the sound effects are working great.

The artwork remembers me of those old classic flash games and looks great.

If you are a pro dev, consider porting to mobile and making millions.

Cutesy destroyer of worlds by Graham Weldon 2015-08-25T11:32:00

Awesome and fun!

The gameplay is simple and intuitive, killing people to get your health back is completely congruent to the premise and using platforms as cover is somewhat innovative, I found really interesting how the bullet impact kind of fucked up the physics, 2 times that I died it was because I didn't get to a platform in time and the citizens blasted me to the sky (shooting from below and the bullet impact wouldn't let me fall on them), an interesting twist but it gets quite unbalanced in later stages, mainly because of the lack of platforms and the exponentially growing number of citizens.

Also, I loved the implementation of the high score system, not entirely necessary since this is a compo, but the way you managed to make a solid game and this is a big plus, same thing for the game over menu and start menu.

The graphics are good, not anything amazing, but it really fits the game and adds greatly to the experience. Fun fact: we used the same font.

On the bad side, this game really would improve with some sounds, and using sfxr is not that time taking so you don't have an excuse, music, on other hand, is completely forgivable since your clearly invested in other qualities.

By the way, why pressing P turns me red?

BYSS by Gareth Jenkins 2015-08-25T10:21:00

I really liked the graphics and sounds, the whole atmosphere gives a very tense feel.

But the lack of gameplay really turned me down, the first 2 islands didn't have any chance of failure at all, and although I liked the idea of sacrificing your "lives" to have a little control of outcome, the seemingly random nature of the monster really breaks the mechanic, one time I converted a human and there was zero kills, another I did with the very same guy and drowned 1 of them, there's no premise of challenge like that.

But still, pretty well made.
