The Crown Jewels Job by Will Edwards 2012-12-18T13:24:00
It's sometimes a bit hard to see if you can stand or something or not or whether something's gonna hurt you or not (e.g. I first thought the pumpkins were loot)

It's sometimes a bit hard to see if you can stand or something or not or whether something's gonna hurt you or not (e.g. I first thought the pumpkins were loot)
Nice concept! I'd love to see this fleshed out a bit after the compo :)
Right now it's real easy to just endlessly keep spawning skeletons without one knight ever reaching your treasure, so some more balancing would be cool :P
Oh, and I ADORE the help screen! :D
Awesome!
There are some minor bugs but I'm pretty sure those are emulator/gameboy related :)
A rather short but nice and definitely very original game! :)
Works fine on Mac, no error messages. But how is this even a game? There's no goal whatsoever, you've got unlimited gold and you can't seem to be able to die :/
Trying to run the mac version throws up an UnsupportedClassVersionError...
I just love the sound effects!
Dafuq did I just play? ._.
Don't know if it fits the theme or not, but I do know I f***ing loved it :D
The wolf runs so fast it's almost impossible to control...
I played the OS/X version, don't know if that's the problem...
@Alex, I basically had the same problem as Crimsoneer on the OS/X version.
If it's Flash, why no Linux and Mac downloads? :P
Very original game, although I'm still not really sure how you have to play it. Seems like spreading the media out is a good tactic, but still...
I don't really understand this game...
Seems like there's no tactics involved. I just randomly clicked the PLAY CARD buttons and won 4 times in a row :/
Each game also lasted about 20 sec...
Strange game... For the entire length of the game, "The Fuzz" has been at 20 coppers and 0 new recruits and this never changed. I've never seen them on the map whatsoever. So I just had to wait and take over all areas to win. I played the OS/X version, so maybe that's the reason for this strange bug?
Also, why are you distributing the Windows batch script and dll's with the Mac version? Or are they needed for the OS/X version to work? In that case, just ignore this question :P
Great idea! And beautifully executed :)
J, care to contact me?
Twitter: @zedutchgandalf or Email: contact@zedutchgandalf.be
I'd like to ask you a few questions :)
I'm sorry for everyone having performance issues... I made this on my 8Gb RAM machine and made sure it worked smoothly with that. There wasn't any time left to increase performance for lower end computers...
I didn't really know what to do at first... So I randomly started shooting people, turns out that's what you're supposed to do :P
Nice! The sound can get a bit annoying imo, but I love the concept and you did a great job making it into a game :)
An acceleration button would be nice :)
The plane is a bit slow...
Overall this is a lovely, be it a bit short, but fun game.
I like the graphical style :)
It's so silly I like it :P
Doesn't fit the theme at all though...
But it's a fun little game :)
The levels won't load in Firefox on Mac (the intro and map load just fine). But they do in Safari.
The game is very nice, though!
My only complaint is that sometimes it can be a bit hard to see whether they can walk over a certain tile or not (especially on Thando Shores)
I love the HUD :D
And the "pew pew" sound the tanks make :')
Really cool game, great job!
It took a while before I figured out you can run. You could have shown that in the text at the beginning, imo :)
I like the game, though!
Also, some kind of sounds/music would have been nice.
But overall, it's great fun =D
Controls are a bit wonky (at least on Mac), and the timer is doing some weird stuff (most of the time, it counts from -8 up to +2), but overall it looks good and it's quite fun :)
I managed to kill them all but got 0 points :o
Very simple but nice concept! :)
Very nice game! It reminds me a bit of the Trine series :)
It's a shame you have to start over from the beginning if you lose...
Nice game though!
I once managed to win and lose at the same time. That seemed kinda buggy...
Mouse should be catched in a game like this...
Other than that, these are some really neat graphics and the game's very moody! :)
Fun game with great music and a nice art style! :)
I'm on Mac and the game didn't launch with a "Could not find the main class: com.thecherno.ld27.Game" error...
Very good for your first entirely-self-made game :)
The only issue I had with it is that it's quite laggy (I'm on Firefox on Mac), and it hangs for like 1/3sec every time I click a turret (on the field and in the 'shop')
Other than that, everything's very good :)
Did you know that if you hold down the UP-key, the character just goes flying of the screen? This is beautifully done, but very, very short and there's no gameplay whatsoever...
Very nice! As an electrical engineer, I just love this kind of game :)
One thing to note though, in the Kongregate version (haven't tried the other one) it's possible to click the blocks (of the level) to make them disappear... This can make some levels extremely easy, and I'm pretty sure that's not intended behaviour :P
Pretty stressful... I like the graphics :)
And this is a quite original idea.
Cool sound effects! ;)
The game is pretty hard, but I like it :)
It looks kinda buggy at times. But other than that, nice job! :)
I really love the character sprite (if you can call it that :P).
I take it's inspired by Bit.Trip Runner? :)
@bnhw there are multiple ways to kill yourself :) don't break your head over what is the 'right' one ;)
@RHY3756547 There are more ways to die than those two ;)
@blay09 There are other ways, you just have to experiment :)
Are you sure all images you used were made by you during the compo?
This is a pretty cool concept, albeit kinda weird at first (especially the controls take some getting used to).
I found myself just looking at the minimap the entire time, which is a bit of a shame since the game looks quite good...
I like the idea and this is a decent execution of it :)
Nice, kind of minimalistic presentation :)
It would be nice if there was time to read the text before the timer started running, though :p
Great job! :D
The core game mechanic is pretty simple but watching the story unfold is just amazing :)
This is really complicated. It looks and feels really good, but, God, is it complicated!
Nice game! Pretty hard, but that's okay :)
I just could not get the treasure chest. Never :(
And I've got no idea what the fishing rod is used for :P
Nice and original use of the theme :D
Very cool!
This is pretty confusing, to be honest... I never really feel like I understand what's going on or how to control the guy. At times I think I know what each key is doing but then I press one of them again and it seems to do something completely random it didn't do before...
Very, very nice game! :)
Fun little game! :)
Really nice! I love the art, love the concept and love the music! :)
I got 6s in the first try :)
Nice take on the theme! I wouldn't mind a few more levels though :)
I'm on Mac and I get this NPE when clicking "Start":
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.atomicvikings.viking2d.Graphics.drawSingleSprite(Graphics.java:81)
Wow, this is really great! Nice job! :D
Very fun game :D
Don't worry about the writing, it's perfectly clear what you want to say :)
I managed to survive in two different ways, not sure how many there are :P
Simple but hard game. The NPCs are really hard. And sometimes I couldn't even completely read the instructions before the game started...
Btw, if this is a compo entry, you need to provide a link to the source files :)
Very nice! I had great fun playing this :)
And, for me, it definitely has that "one more try" factor to it :D
I feel like it's missing some crucial gameplay elements, it doesn't really feel like a game at the moment...
Works perfectly on Mac btw :)
The controls are a bit "loose" at times, but other than that, this is pretty good for a first game! :)
Luck plays a pretty big role in this. But otherwise it's quite fun :)
I love the music, btw!
Controls are a bit confusing and the game is overall pretty weird, but kinda fun.
Btw, is that a selfmade cover of Smoke on the Water? :P
Fun, new take on an old concept :)
Best I could do was 10.2 though :P
Really fun game! Stressful and hard, but I like that :D
Interesting concept, beautiful execution! :)
I love the slider at the bottom :D
Some way to speed time up would be helpful though, especially in the first levels :)
First off, congratulations on finishing a game!
I like the atmosphere of the game, the concept and the subtle take on the theme :)
I got pretty far but ran out of oxygen, so I didn't completely finish it. But from what I saw, the puzzles seemed diverse enough, and progressively getting harder.
The only thing I had a minor "problem" with is that I had to try 2 or 3 times before I figured out you have to hold space to carry Dave (that little word extra in the control screen would help :P)
Anyway, great job! I like it! :)
The concept and graphics are nice, but this could really do with some kind of AI so that there are always 4 runners :) (even a very basic one would be nice)
Sound doesn't work at all in Firefox on Mac, but it works great in Chrome...
Great game though :)
Nice, but rather short, game :)
I love the little pixelated Bolt guy doing his "archer" thingie :P
I think you should try to get some sort of Win/Unix version out... Mac only is a really small target audience...
Nice idea :)
Also looks really good and the music's great! :D
Immediately crashes on OS X, with the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Error creating shader.
at chris.hertwig.LD27.ShaderHelper.compileShader(ShaderHelper.java:110)
Pretty glitchy... All the things I see as text on your screenshots are for me just weird blocks in-game. The controls feel a bit odd and every now and then the player character seems to spaz out a bit...
I do like the music though! :)
Finished it first try somehow :D
Nice game, sadly there's only one level :(
I'm not quite sure how to control this... I know it's just "press any key to use the anti-grav thingie", but I'm not really sure how that thing works...
Great music though :)
Haha! Nice idea :D
Really fun game ^^
Pretty confusing at first, but when you get used to it, this is fun :)
I love the music!
Nice graphics and a nice concept. The time limit is pretty annoying, but that's probably kind of the point of having the time limit I guess...
Some music would be nice (or maybe that's just Firefox again :P)
I'm not really sure this kind of game is suited for the whole "10 seconds" thing... 10 seconds is way to little time to sometimes even find one word :P
It's got a nice look to it, though :)
Btw, if you enter a game in the compo, you have to give a link to the source code :)
Interesting idea! And a very fun game :)
The game is pretty slow, I think it would be more fun if it was a little faster (maybe just a little, even). I do love the "brainzzzz" timer :)
It's pretty easy to just keep spamming the ZXC-buttons, but other than that this is a fun and well polished game :)
Nice take on an old classic story :)
Nice concept, nice game! :)
I had a bit of a hard time figuring out what I had to do at first, but once you get the hang of it it's fun :)
I played the HTML version and had a bit of an issue with it constantly selecting the canvas object (because you have to click and drag), which made me have to click outside the object to deselect it, but I'm not sure there's all that much you could do about that...
Nice! Well polished, really fun game :D
I love the guy's voice xD
Does not work on Mac. This needs Java 6 on Mac because of the JAWT_GetAWT problem, but it immediately crashes in Java 6 with an UnsupportedClassVersionError...
Maybe you should try to compile it with JDK 6 for Mac users?
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/lesterpig/ld27/DesktopStarter : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0
You really should not require people to download and install python, a python library, git, and your source code themselves... :/
I feel like Space would be more appropriate as jump key (my pointing finger hurts after playing this :P)
Really cool, well polished game! There's some minor collision problems with the movable blocks every now and then, but I was never really stuck or anything.
I like the looks and feel of this game! And the sound design is amazing! Congrats!
Nice game!
I love the graphical style :)
Could have done with a bit of sound, though...
This is really short, which is a bit of a pity...
It looks great though. And the atmosphere you've created is incredible :)
This is really hard! But immense fun! :D
I feel like the rate of attack was a bit slower than it should've been. But I like the audio feedback you give whenever you're able to attack again.
And I just love the graphical style! The way you've used colours is really cool :)
I think some kind of dodge roll would have been really useful.
All in all, this is a really great game! Congrats! :)
Cool, simple game! And an original concept :)
This looks really good! Shame that the dialogue is slowing everything down so much...
Difficult! But really fun :)
This is great! Good job! :)
Nice graphical style! It's pretty short and simple at the moment, but what's there works great! I think this has a lot of potential, could be really cool with some more work post-compo :)
I love the look of this :D
It's a bit buggy at times, though (esp. collision)
Neat game, though! Congrats! :)
This is really fun :)
The mines are a bit annoying though...
This is fun :D
I love the voice acting!
Good job! :)
Impressive! This has a lot of potential, I think :)
Love the art style!
If you play the downloadable version, you can resize the screen and play in fullscreen mode to make everything bigger :)
@bzizizi Haha :D Yeah, it was pretty late when I figured I should probably write some sort of "music" :P
@stvr There is. Living monsters are worth very, very little (regardless of their size). Food is always worth more. And everytime you combine two pieces of food, their combined value is more than their separate values added together :)
So if you want to get a lot of points, it's always best to stockpile as much food as you can. Downside to that is that it's easier to shoot the food by accident and it's an easier target for the evil guys...
I love the intro and the breeding mechanics! :)
There's not that much content, though...
I would really like to see this one fleshed out a bit more post-compo :D
Really cool graphical style! :D
And an amazing ending xD
A bit of music would have been nice, but I'm guessing you ran out of time, right? ;)
Really cool! Reminds me a lot of retro shooters (Doom and the sorts).
I love this :D
This is great :D
I love the graphics!
Good job! :)
It's a shame that you can't get money without building those things. I started by building two turrets and immediately had no way of gaining money except for selling both (!) those turrets again, leaving me defenceless... That should not be possible, imo...
The game looks really nice though! And you've got some fun mechanics in there :D
This is great! But it would have been even better with a bit of music :)
At first I though this was just another generic platformer. Then I died...
I really like the Braidy rewinding mechanic. I do wish the interface switching was a lot faster. Also, a 5 second countdown is a bit lot. When you're experimenting to get past a hard part, you die a lot. And frankly, I did not finish the game just because it felt like a lot of the time I was just waiting to be able to try something else...
It really is a fun game though :)
It's quite difficult to understand what's going on at first. And the controls are a bit strange. But all in all this is a solid, good game :)
This is an addicting little game :) Good job!
This is a simple, beautiful game. I felt like an idiot after waiting for twenty seconds at the start because I thought something was going to happen (because of the "Press UP to skip") :P
It took me some time to figure out what I had to do, but it all went fine from there!
Some puzzles are actually quite hard because of all the sliding around.
And I just want to point out that the in-game About screen states that the keys to change the game speed are "W" and "A" instead of "W" and "S"...
Original, pretty nice game! :)
The sound is really quiet, though...
Damn! Look at those gunblasts! :P
Really cool!
Mouse support would make it even more awesome though :)
Reminded me a lot of "Thomas Was Alone"!
I love how everything gets all glitchy at the end!
This is really, really great! Well done! :D
Really cool! I love the art style, the music, the concept... Everything! :)
I like the art style and the music a lot! :)
This looks really great :)
Coins sometimes spawn on top of the boulders, although that doesn't matter that much since there's plenty of others left :P
I love the music btw!
Once you discover what you have to do, it's pretty short... But I really like the "discovering what you have to do" part :)
This is one of those rare games where it would have been less enjoyable if there were a tutorial, imo.
This is a really cool concept!
I love it! It's unlike anything I've seen before :)
Congratulations! :D
What kind of submarine has to go above water to get air every 5 minutes? :P
I like this. Id have the feeling it tries to be a lot of things at the same time, which does make it feel a bit "cluttered". Maybe it would have been better to remove one or two features and focus on the rest, imo.
But all in all this is pretty fun! And quite impressive given the time span :)
Amazing art! Kinda short though... But awesome music as well!
This is awesome :D
Congrats!
Great game! :)
I just love the graphics!
Congratulations! :D
I love the retro shooter feeling I get from this :)
This is a really great game! Congrats!
This looks great!
It's really short though... But nevertheless, I enjoyed it :)
This is pretty neat!
I like the mechanics, but it could've done with some sort of audio though :)
Lovely little game!
I love the art style on this :D
I feel like eating goats should maybe restore some of my lives?
Anyway, this is really fun to play! Great job! :)
You've got some nice puzzles going on!
It gets hard pretty fast, but it's cool that there's never any pressure. :)
Amazing! I love the artstyle, the limericks and the music!
This is really impressive for a ten year old in as little as one day! :)
Great job, Jacob! :D
Reminds me of Lone Survivor!
Really cool art style and a great atmosphere you've got going on! Good job! :)
I love that you also went with the "You control more than one" theme. And the fact that the top guy has to collect bullets for the ship! That's a really cool mechanic!
Really cool! Everything works perfectly, looks good and feels good! :)
This looks great and I can definitely see where you were going with it :)
It runs perfectly fine for me in Chrome (Mac Os X), but didn't run at all in Firefox.
The line creating does seem to be a bit bugged. It created some random lines which I didn't want to and didn't create other lines that I DID want to make (always telling me a station can only have 2 lines - even when I still only had used 1 line on the entire map)...
I find the mouse sensitivity being a bit too high. And I would have love to have been able to play this fullscreen. But there's no in-game option and right clicking is disabled...
I do love the graphics, the music and the game idea! :)
This is pretty fun :)
The restarts are a bit annoying though... At first I thought it was a bug... Only later did I find out those things on the walls are actually spikes (they don't really look like spikes to me) :P maybe just restarting the room would be better? Also having a way to fall down faster would have been nice...
But all in all, this is a solid, fun game!
After I found out what to do (which took me some time), this really was an incredibly nice game :) great job!
This is great! I love the simplicity of the mechanics :)
And difficulty ramps up just right.
Really great! Well done! :D
You do know that .exe files only work on Windows, right?
Both of your links don't work on Mac or on Linux...
This is a cool, new twist on a (kinda) old concept :)
I love the music! :D
This is really cool! It looks great and it feels great.
I love the graphical style!
But I have to wonder, why is it called "Understanding LD"? :P
Congratulations on such a wonderful first Ludum Dare!
I managed to get myself stuck outside the level :P
This is a neat idea :)
I love it!
I really like the concept. And it's one of the most original things I've seen on here :)
But it does feel a lot like just randomly clicking on stuff and hoping they get happy...
It would have been better if the buttons actually said what they control (the only one that does this effectively is the sound one).
Also, I couldn't find how to control the shifting gear(?) thing. Clicking didn't work, nor did any key I tried...
I love the graphics and audio! Makes it very moody :)
This is really fun :D I enjoyed it a lot!
There was no sound for me, though (Web version in Firefox on Os X).
Also I don't know if it's your implementation of the bullet time or if it's the missile particles, but everytime I tried to shoot missiles, it felt as if the game was lagging really hard, which is a bit of a shame...
Anyway, this is a really cool idea with a lot of potential, if it gets a bit more polish :)
Also, I clipped through a wall on the "second level" and was stuck in there, upside down :P
This is a really cool, little game! :)
It looks great and I love the concept :D
You've got some cool graphics and nice music going on here :)
Pretty cool!
The swapping can be really disorienting though.
And when the "bottom" block has to go "high" (near the bottom of the screen), the wiggling can become a bit obnoxious.
But this is an original concept, really fun and quite challenging! :)
"a 5 minute infinite" how does that work? :P
Pretty cool! The jumping mechanic could use some more work (it's more "falling" than actually jumping atm), but the concept is certainly great!
The game lags really hard every time a new sound file is loaded.
And I have the impression the blood spots do not respawn? At least it feels as if I had run out...
First time I tried the game was unresponsive and just going all over the place at random. But after a quick refresh everything worked as expected :)
Some sound would have been nice, but other than that this is a solid, fun entry! Good job! :D
This is a really cool concept! :D
This gets hard really fast :P
Looks great though!
Really cool! Reminds me a lot of the original Castlevania :)
It feels like this one is even more unforgiving :D
It would have been nice to have a screen with the controls somewhere, as I did not discover the "CTRL to attack" one myself (read it in the comments here after failing hard with the touchpad on my laptop).
Strange little game...
It could have done with a bit more gameplay, but it's a cool concept nonetheless! Congrats! :)
Oh God, that last one D:
I though I finally saved someone, and he gets run over by another train :(
Really cool, atmospheric game!
This is fun! :)
Collisions sometimes seem to be a bit of though... But otherwise, this looks really great!
Very fun!
The character looks amazing!
I don't really know what the goal of the game is though :P
Some info would have been nice...
Also, according to the rules, you are allowed to fix bugs with the win condition, if it's not properly activating :)
I love the concept of this :D
The wall clipping is kind of bad, especially in the first level. In the later levels it doesn't matter that much though. The music's just lovely! As is the difficulty level and the level design :) there's a bit of backtracking if you choose poorly at the early crossroads, but it's not that bad. This is a great, fun little game! :)
Simple, yet really fun! Just awesome! :D
It get's pretty hard early on, but I like that :)
Great job on gradually adding more mechanics level per level!
Also, is it just by accident or did you deliberately hide a lot of penile designs in the levels? (e.g. the lower right corner of the second small screenshot, and some other levels featured things like this :P)
The camera can be a real PITA sometimes...
But I like this :D
Also: box box box box box box box box box box box box
This reminds me a lot of the first level(s) in Spore :P
I did wander of as a little drop (I don't know why) and I couldn't find anything again. It felt like the world was completely empty... :(
All in all, this is a fun, good game! Congratulations! :)
This is a fun game, albeit a bit short :P
It feels a bit like gambling, so naturally, I had to keep playing until I'd won at least once :D
Controls can be a bit awkward at times. But it looks nice, and I think this is an idea with a lot of potential :)
First off: the rotation is really slow. And sometimes mines would go off while I was standing on the tile next to it and other times I could stand right on top of the mine to defuse it without it blowing up...
I like the idea though. It's one of the more original games this Ludum Dare :)
Some kind of explosion animation would also have been nice :P
This is a very atmospheric game! :)
I tried several times but did not manage to finish it...
I just love how tense this is. You had me listening to all sounds very closely, waiting to turn the light off the second I hear those footsteps again.
This is truly amazing! Great job! :D
Nice atmosphere! The graphical style fits it well :)
This kinda feels like a really big game of Whack-a-Mole. It's kind of at the slow side though... Other than that, great game! Congrats! :)
Your art reminds me a lot of Derek Yu (which is a good thing! ;) ). I love that the character actually ages as well!
The keyboard controls didn't work for me, but I managed just fine with clicking the screen (although I would have preferred to use the keyboard). Overall, it's a really solid entry!
CremaGames and local minimum, do you block cookies in your browser? I think that might be the problem, but I'm not entirely sure
I've tested in both Chrome and Firefox myself and disabling cookies does nothing (the game just doesn't save but it doesn't crash either). Could you maybe paste your console output (only what's in red)? On windows you can open the console by pressing F12. On Mac it's Cmd+Alt+C in most browsers, I think.
@Crashmore Studios: Yes, that's also something I would have wanted in there. But sadly there wasn't enough time (I even mentioned this in the tooltips of the upgrade that unlocks the radio :P)
This is a neat idea :)
Very fun to play!
Some kind of AI to play against would have been nice though.
Also, the controls in the menu were reversed for me (Firefox 42, Web version embedded on this page). So I had to press right to mark as ready and left to cancel. In the game itself everything was as it should be.
Also, the music gets quite samey after a while, some kind of option to turn it off / down would have been nice :)
This is very detailed and content-rich for a Ludum Dare entry :o great job!
My only minor complaint would be that the music levels are quite low, I had to actually turn my physical speakers up a lot in order to even hear the music, the ingame controls and those of my OS weren't enough :P.
This is a beautiful, fun, albeit a bit short game.
I found the UI to be a bit too big at first, but I got used to it, although it still would have been nice to have a larger viewport on the world. A great game nonetheless! :)
This is a very neat idea! :)
The text on the cards was a bit hard to read in the web version though. Even when fullscreen, it was really hard to read the text on the card your opponent played.
This is very beautifully done! Some of the minigames seems a bit obscure. E.g. I never really knew when to throw the letters exactly. Some more visual feedback would have been nice. Also, in the hospital one, it wasn't immediately clear to me when to press the heartbeat key. I found out through trial and error, but it would have been nice if a short explanation was given before the game. It's still an excellent game overall though! Very content rich and just plain beautiful!
Neat little game!
Just a heads up: this is not PC only, it's Windows only. Computers running Mac OS X and GNU/Linux are also, by definition, "Personal Computers" :)
My highscore is 4349. Neat little game! A simple yet very fun concept. Performance isn't the best in Firefox 42, though...
Fixing big bugs (or platform-specific bugs) isn't against the rules, but it is recommended to disclose it in the description or something if you do, and to also still include the original version as a download :)
This has some really nice art!
Some letters are a bit hard to read though.
But overall, this is a really solid game! I've enjoyed it :)
This is pretty fun!
It would be nice to have some kind of objective :)
Also, the turning can be really slow sometimes, especially when going fast.
But overall, this is a beautiful, fun game! :)
Neat little game :)
I found the controls a bit awkward at times (why S and D and not A and D?). But it's a nice take on both times and pretty enjoyable! :)
Nice game!
To me it does feel a bit slow. I personally would have liked it if the character moved a bit faster or if the corridors were a bit shorter :)
Also, if I'm moving using only the mouse, why can't I place mines using the mouse as well? An extra option for placing mines (using e.g. right click) would have been cool. It's still a great game though! :)
Nice! This is really hard, yet very fun :)
And it looks/feels incredible! Another great job, Daniël!
I just had a totally bonkers discussion with the police about the century-old merits of a manual corkscrew versus an automatic wine-opener. And I love it! This is very funny, albeit the intro is like twice as long as the game itself (it would have been nice if I could skip to the next piece of text by clicking or something, the default speed was way to low IMO)
None of the keys worked for me (Firefox 42, Windows 8.1). Neither spacebar to skip the text nor the arrow keys to run.
I also can't see anything useful in the console about why they don't work.
It was hard to understand what was going on at first. Especially since it start on the music player screen (?) which is also all jumbled up for some reason. I'm also pretty sure some of the music I heard is copyrighted.
It's an interesting concept, but it could really use a bit more work :)
This is a very fun game :)
The difficulty progression feels just right.
The controls sometimes feel a bit finicky, but that could also be because it's embedded here (I've noticed this with a lot of web games that are embedded on the LD page itself).
This looks very nice. I love the attention to small details. The menu buttons do feel a bit out of place, however. But that's not really a big deal. Great game! :)
Neat little game! :)
The art feels a bit disconnected, there's like three completely different art style thrown together. I've read your description and I don't mind that you've used asset packs and such, but maybe you should try to make them feel a bit more connected. Right now, I find it's a bit distracting from the gameplay itself (which is great, by the way!)
I couldn't play the game because I don't know which buttons actually confirms my selection (I get that there's random buttons to move left/right and that the button your ship's over is the button that's selected). I've tried all keys I could think of but none of them worked...
Also, the text at the bottom is completely illegible for me. There's two sentences rendered over each other. I know one of them tells me which buttons move left and right but I've got no clue what the other sentence is. You can see what I mean here: http://i.imgur.com/9pge8rW.png
I'll check back every once in a while to see if you've replied or fixed the issue. If you have, then I'll give the game another shot :)
Thanks for the fix! I was able to play the game now and I really liked it! :) It looks good, has an interesting format, and is very fun :)
The only suggestion I'd have is to implement some form of grace period in between letter changes so you don't immediately fall back down. This made the game a lot harder than it otherwise would have been
This is a neat little game :)
Just a small heads up: whenever I right clicked in the Web player, the context menu would show up. This gets really annoying real fast. I don't know if you can disable this in Unity, but I'd imagine you can (most other Unity web games don't have this - especially not when they use the right mouse button for something in the game)
Like others have said, the game doesn't work as it is now. Also, that's not a Web link, its a Windows download.
This is pretty fun, although it gets a bit samey rather quick. Also, the game stutters about every second. I'm assuming this has to do with loading in a new part of the world?
The first screen (with the controls and such) doesn't scale with the resolution. In the default resolution Unity suggested me, the part with the actual controls was outside the screen, completely invisible to me (I know what was supposed to be there because of the "mainmenu.png" file in the sources.
Just a heads up: Dropbox does not permit cross-origin framing, so the version embedded on the Ludum Dare page doesn't work at all (it kind of suprises me that you didn't notice this yourself).
When I try to download the game in order to play it, a warning pops up saying "Exported games won't work until you upload them. (When running on the file:/// protocol, browsers block many features from working for security reasons.)".
You could upload your game to itch.io for free, and then embed that version here. That should work and it should stop that warning from appearing.
About the actual game: After pressing "-" the first time, everything just went black and nothing else happened. Is that supposed to happen?
Honestly, I find it very hard to find any kind of value in this, I'm sorry...
I love this concept! It fits the theme perfectly, and I really like that you can control it by actually unplugging your laptop's power supply. The graphics look very nice, and the sound design perfectly fits the game and theme :) If I had any complaint, it would be that the pacing seems a bit too slow at the start, especially for an incremental game like this.
Overall, this is a pretty good game :) The UI could definitely use some work though, it was very hard to see what's what when first loading the game. Also, the text at the beginning was way too fast. Both graphics and music were pretty good! Please remember to rate other Ludum Dare games yourselves, otherwise people won't find your game easily. The more games you rate yourselves, the more people will rate your game!
I liked that there was a story, but it seemed a bit slow at the start. The idea itself was very neat. I loved that you could choose which powers to lose instead of the game forcing you in a certain direction. The jumping felt a bit weird though. It's also possible to stick to the walls, which was a bit of a problem when I was trying to run all the way to one side and tried to jump over the guys following me. Often, my guy would stick to the wall in that scenario and wouldn't jump at all, which made a lot of guys run into me :( Overall, this is a great game. Well done! :)
@gagapete The events are selected at random, so they're bound to repeat often in some playthroughs. I've added a ton of them, but it's still very noticeable sometimes. I think about 60% of my time was spent purely on writing content, it takes really long to get a basic set of events for a game like this. I hope to update the game sometime after Ludum Dare, but I'd like to write an event editor for it first. It's becoming a hassle to handle everything manually in plain text. Also, thanks for your review and rating!
@oxrock What? That's not supposed to happen. I also can't reproduce it on my system. And as far as I know, I didn't implement anything to skip events, not even in debug mode :stuck_out_tongue:. Maybe, for some reason, when you scroll your mousewheel it emulates multiple mouse clicks? And those happened to be right on top of one of the options? That's about one of the only ways I can think of that such behaviour would happen... *EDIT:* Weird, now I can reproduce that. It only happens if the mouse is indeed over one of the options while scrolling. I'll see if I can fix that. *EDIT 2:* This has now been fixed. I've updated the description to detail these changes as per the compo rules.
@btwj Thanks for your comment! I still have an entire list full of things I wanted to add in - including more visualizations like you've mentioned. But writing all the content in the game took a big chunk of my time (about 60% of the entire weekend I'd wager), so I had to scrap a lot of things sadly. I might update it after Ludum Dare though!
@cakemonitor Well, there is a (substantial) degree of randomness involved also. Both in which events you get and in how aggressive the neighbouring countries are, so it could be that you just had bad luck in your first run (or great luck in the second one, depending how you look at it)
@jackyjjc Thank you for your great feedback! Sadly, sound was one of the things I had to cut due to the time restraints. I rather wanted to have a few more events than sound/music with almost nothing to do, but I do fully agree that the game would have been better with some music playing in the background...
This game looks great. The sounds also nicely fits what you were going for :) The gameplay itself is pretty boring, however. I'm not sure if a mechanic like this can be made interesting on PC, but I would have at least liked to see some more things to interact with than the two there are now. Also some more levels would be nice. Right now it's impossible to buy as much toys as there are in total without replaying the last level a few times. I didn't really enjoy the idea that much, but the execution however was very good! Also, I'm not sure if you've seen this already, but the people behind Godot engine are keeping track of LD39 entries using Godot on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/godotengine/status/892019189682241536), I've also used Godot for my game:)
Omg, I love this! :D Who would've thought the life of a fridge could be this hard! Very nicely done
What a nice little puzzle game! It was a bit confusing at first, since the game didn't specify what the central battery-thing is for, but I quickly figured it out. This is a nice take on the classic pipe-puzzle concept thing :D Great job!
This is pretty fun! Reminded me a lot of Papers, Please! with the end-screen and health-vs-fun-vs-work balancing. The game did lock up a few times for me, becoming fully unresponsive. Overall, great job! :)
I like the idea and the graphics. But, like others have said above, the character feels very slow. Also, I'd really like some kind of visual indicator that I'm extracting energy from other robots (at first I thought it simply didn't work, until I noticed the bar going up). Also, I find it kind of weird that other robots don't shut down after you've extracted their energy, I feel like that would make the game feel even more stealthy as you could sneak up behind a turret and shut it down by extracting it's energy. Finally, I would have like a restart button or at least some kind of in-game indication that I have died and what I have to do to try again. Also, I don't know if you've already noticed this, but the people behind Godot engine are collecting LD39 entries made using Godot over on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/godotengine/status/892019189682241536)
This is a nice little game! The controls are a bit weird at first, but once you get the hang of them they're fun to use! Great job!
Sweet! Now I can play that it's Ludum Dare during Ludum Dare :D The game itself is a bit simple once you find out what to do (which - as others have said - isn't really clear at the start). It also took me a while to notice where I can see how much money I had left. I don't know if this was on purpose or not, but there were a lot of machines that had an option to turn them off in the context menu but that couldn't be turned off. Overall, this is a solid first entry! I especially enjoyed the hand-drawn graphics which added a bit more personality to the game  Great job!
I really like the art of this! It looks gorgeous! The jumping/platforming is a bit buggy (the first time I jumped, right at the start of the game, I got stuck in the wall). The game itself is pretty hard, but I don't think it's necessarily too hard. It is annoying however that the camera is so zoomed in on the player, I'd like to be able to see a bit more of the level at any given time. This is especially frustrating with some of the weird spike placement. Overall, it's definitely not a bad game at all. It just needs a bit more polish and maybe a tad better level design. Also, I'd really like some kind of feedback that I hit a spike. It took me a couple of deaths before I realized the game thought I was hitting spikes that didn't look like I was hitting them to me.
Hello, my fellow Godot-user! I like the aesthetic of your game, it looks beautiful! The enemy pathfinding is a bit simplistic, but the way the second level was set up made me think that's done on purpose, since the walking guys can't path around the holes in the ground while the flying guys simply fly over it. The balancing felt fine to me. Some rooms were quite hard, but it never felt unfair or anything like that. Great job!
This was a fun, albeit short game  The graphics are also very nice. I would like to play a more fleshed out version of this!
This is a nice little puzzle game :) It reminds me a bit of Spacechem in fact. Great job!
The controls are pretty hard to get used to. But once you do, it's a lot of fun and can be pretty tense at times. I maybe would've liked for the monsters to die a bit quicker to the light since it's already difficult to hit them. But overall, this is a solid entry
Nice game! It's a bit hard to get started, so some hints as to which ingredients you need to combine would be nice. I love the art, the music, and the stirring minigame. Neat idea!
@zarkonnen Did you get an error? And what browser are you using? I've never seen that happen before...
@theviraldragon @haydads @javicoder @pashaloban Thanks for all the nice feedback!
@loudlout Thanks for the feedback! I know it's a bit easy / short. I didn't want to make it overly complex but I might have gone too far in the other direction...
@morris Thanks for the feedback! If you want to fully read the upgrades you do have to pause the game. I couldn't find a way to make it work without pausing. Just buying the upgrades without reading them does work fine without pausing, especially once you get a few stabiliser upgrades.
This looks and sounds amazing! I don't know if my game was bugged or not, but after the initial enemy a whole bunch of enemies triggered all at once (way too much to see and hit reliably) and after that nothing happened anymore. My guy just started wandering around without music or enemies...
Controls are a bit rough which makes it very hard to get even 1 extinguisher, but I like the idea and the hookshot!
