Wow, that was awesome! Loved everything about it, keep up the good work!

Wow, that was awesome! Loved everything about it, keep up the good work!
Yeah, I wanted to have blood gradually respawn, but I ran out of time :(
I do have commits ready now to make both hair and blood respawn over time to make the game "endless," as was originally intended, but I don't know if that counts as a win condition "bug," or a new feature, since I knew it was unfinished when I submitted.
I don't want to break any rules, or the spirit of the jam. Anyone know if there's been similar fixes in the past that would set precedence?
Heh... actually, the voice was javascript text-to-speech; random speech was also done in javascript by another member of the team. I would have Unity send an event to the webpage to fire off the speech generation function, which would generate a random phrase, speak it, and send the string back to Unity to be displayed in-game. Kind of hacky, and I'd wanna' use an in-engine TTS engine in Unity should a more complete version of the game be done (it's in the works).
Solid entry! Had a lot of fun playing, feels very complete.
While regular turrets didn't feel terribly useful, all the other turrets were very much so, and perhaps should have been a little more expensive; after placing about 3 or 4, I suddenly found myself with very little to shoot at :/
Keep up the good work! Look forward to your next entry!
Very good atmosphere. Movement could be "pepped up," seemed a little slow. Very impressed by how much you were able to pack in with such a short timespan!
Hah! Loved the subtle storytelling, solid entry.
The slimes are so cute! I love the concept! My suggestion would be to add an enemy attack animation or visual.
Such a great idea and I love the humor. I started out by delivering a few letters to where they were supposed to go and then decided to send them all over the place. I do like the suggestion of some sort of indicator as to who lives where.
The voice-over really creeped me out and I think I could live without it. Maybe it was too loud? I felt like it was really jarring. There was also the sliding movement but other than that I really like it. The backgrounds and music really set the mood and atmosphere!
Hah! That was a blast! Great idea, and great execution!
Great concept. For me, it was a bit hard because I instinctively always press "spacebar" to jump and since that makes a connection it would really mess me up, hah.
Thank goodness for an option to turn the background music off. It took me a few tries to figure it out. I think you could probably explain the instructions a bit better with a tutorial level or two. Overall it isn't bad, just a bit confusing at first!
I really enjoyed this game. I feel like it was a little hard to control the taxi but it wasn't too bad! It was a lot of fun and I loved reading about the different types of passengers. Once the bomb-passenger came on I exploded almost instantly.
It took me a while to figure out how to connect planets (collect resources?) but once I figured that out it was pretty fun. I love the little animals ... especially the one with the banana-shaped head, haha!
Hah! Incredibly clever, and very fun. Great work!
I really like the sword swinging and found myself trying to swing it as often as I could. There's just something organic about the swing that I really enjoyed! Great music and I love the graphics.
I can see it becoming fun with actual players or an AI. It's a great cross between Chinese Checkers and Checkers - at least that's what I felt it was like!
This was awesome to play and really challenging! I didn't understand what "Shift" was until I realized it was dwindling every time I'd smash into something :P
Nice!
I got to 20! It was a little hard to understand at first (even with the instructions) but once I figured it out I finally had some fun. Great concept and I love the music!
While it is playable and the graphics are decent, I didn't really have too much fun. I also didn't feel the theme come through at any point unless it's the part where you can share the garden?
This is an awesome game. It is a little confusing at first and I think if there was a better indication of which end of the wormhole I was picking up it'd be a bit easier. I see the purple outline but it gets hard when dealing with so many wormholes.
I'd definitely love to see this as a finished game!
Some odd story connections (like waking up "still strapped" when I was never strapped) but overall I liked it. I chuckled at "toe-fingers."
Some things that through me off though since there isn't much in way of graphics or audio were the grammar mistakes.
Not bad! I did feel a bit dumb for a few minutes when trying to figure out what to do but I got it eventually. I still think I only made it through because of luck but it's better than nothing!
The boss made me chuckle out loud. Great game! Love the humor.
This is an amazing game! I made it to the very end and beat the boss. It took me a few tries but it was worth it! I love the puzzles - they were challenging yet simple. The music fits perfectly and the graphics are adorable.
One of the better LD games I've played ever.
Nice game! I didn't get the battle system at first and eventually figured out the counter/timing.
This was such an awesome game! The music, the art, everything fits.
A bit confusing at first and I'm not entirely sure I understand what's going on yet but nice game nonetheless.
Sorry everyone! We've gone to a different host, game should be playable now :)
Whoops! Sorry about that, Alexbrainbox. Uploaded new zip :)
Nice top-down. I feel like the pace could be a bit faster and of course, like everyone else, an ammo counter.
Theme-wise, I don't like the subject matter or choice of weapon but it *is* unconventional so it fits.
Controls aren't working so I couldn't really play it. Graphics are nice but movement seems a bit floaty. I like the use of tea bags as power ups.
Great game! My favorite was the Nyan cat bazooka and possibly the fork thing, haha. I played by myself since I really don't have anyone here to play with but I could see this being a lot of fun.
Graphics and music are awesome. I couldn't play the web version and instead just downloaded the Windows .exe and it worked fine. Just a heads up!
Ahhh roomba death! I love the concept and the art. It's very intuitive and fun to play. I like that the music and sounds were subtle and made the explosions that much more satisfying.
Now if only those helicopters would just leave me alone.
- C (since Z and I are sharing the account to vote)
Art style is great - so is your take on an unconventional weapon. Dying right after using a cross gets a bit old though. I gave up half-way because I guess I couldn't get my timing down. Overall, I really liked this game.
Love the unconventional weapon and great submission.
Very cute and I love the atmosphere. It was more frustrating then fun because of the inverted controls. Most of the time was spent underneath it's belly and while it's pretty cute, I was a sitting duck for those damn rabbits.
Nice game! I like how simple it is. Some of the sounds were a bit loud but overall not bad. I love the music and art. The one thing I couldn't figure out was how to smack bats?
Great little game. I think using faster trolls (like the ones with 20HP) more would make it a bit more challenging.
Such a cute and fun game! The tutorial is a nice touch. I did get an error the first time I loaded it but the second time around it was fine. Here is the error in case it means something:
"

"
It took forever to load! But, after waiting it finally loaded and I was able to play. Game play is nice, graphics are great, I just wish there were some audio. Not bad!
This is a great game! My hand hurts from the anxiety and quick tapping but it's worth it. The music and art is great. Good job!
This was great! Pretty challenging but a lot of fun!
Definitely an interesting concept! I didn't get right away which character I was. I kept thinking I was the top-left and didn't realize I was the bottom-right. It made it really hard the first time around.
The second time it wasn't so bad. The music got a bit repetitive. I also didn't see the list of abilities until now (the ones you put above) so I had no clue what each power was. Now I know.
I think this could have benefited from a little bit of instruction but overall pretty good once you get the hang of it.
This was a bit too slow for my liking. I don't think the audio tutorial was necessary either and felt it added to the slow pace of the game. I would have rather had visual cues instead. The controls were a bit .. unnatural. It felt weird to move my hand from the mouse to the keyboard so often to change magnets and use it.
Nice idea though a bit simple. It wasn't too hard but it wasn't easy either. Not bad!
Really great action! Controls a little difficult on keyboard, but on gamepad I imagine it'd play really well. Great work!
Simple, yet very satisfying controls and gameplay. Great execution, had a lot of fun with this one! Would definitely be willing to pick up a lengthier game developed in this style.
Slow going to start, but gets interesting later on.
Definitely wins in the mood category, carries it in fact. Wanting to follow the story pushed me to finish. Very unique! Would love to see more games of this sort.
I just... I. What did I... this... wuh?
I love this. I. Love. This.
Switching from attack and defense is a little buggy, but great game!
I'm uh ... not sure what's going on but I managed to win, I think? I ate everything :)
I feel like planting the seed was really trial and error and that wasn't really fun. I guess I don't know why it was wrong or why it was right when I did get it right.
Either way, not bad!
At first when things started sprouting I thought to myself, "Great, another game where I grow plants."
Then, I realized what was going on and some of the levels are kind of complicated! I think you could have benefited from making 'SPACE' the jump button as well.
Great game!
This was a solid entry. I loved the "story-mode" to the game and I liked how each time you played it was a little bit different. Great work!
Loved movement feels, really solid. I love the theme and the checkpoints being snow globes. Just wanted to mention the WebGL worked fine for me on Firefox as well!
The sound effects and music were a bit distracting to me. I did like the concept and your take on the theme of growing up. I used the mouse since the controls seemed unnatural to me.
This is a really nice concept! I love the 3D models and the simplistic look to the game.
The enemy AI really impressed me and presented a really nice challenge. It takes a little getting used to the fighting controls but it's really nice.
I think having to use multiple buttons/keys for movement and attack is not quite necessarily "two-buttons" but no one said it had to be. It can be taken literally or even not at all.
Either way, I enjoyed your game. Good stuff!
This was a very neat game! I love the art and the simple play style. I felt so bad every time the polar bears would hit something. Poor baby polar bear just didn't want to stay close to it's mom ... :P
It was a bit challenging to control four keys but it wasn't too bad.
(Level up) Two... buttons.
... I see what you did there :D
A lot of waiting around for enemies, but all in all, good execution!
This was pretty cool. I enjoyed the fact that it was a rails shooter, haha. Movement can be a bit wonder at times and seeing my cursor would throw me off, but not bad!
I almost made it too. Backup was coming in 10 seconds and I only had 2% HP left!
Hah, this is a pretty decent point + click interactive story. I did play twice just to see what the other options were. I also really liked the graphics - their style lent itself to the humor :P
We noticed there was that awful bug where you got stuck and couldn't do much else - sometimes it happens on the first pop-up as well. We've fixed it now!
@Solifuge, we're happy that people are picking up on our twists on these rituals :)
I (the artist speaking) was trying to channel Krumm, the Pale Man, and Y'Golonac and mash them together without trying to be too ... creepy, haha.
We do wish we had more time to make gathering regeants/ingredients more exciting but all the comments are giving us some great ideas (in addition to the ones we were already throwing around) for an expanded game!
I love the story and the graphics are great. Aiming, firing, and trying to move all at the same time made it hard but it wasn't too bad. It's a nice addition.
Great game!
I liked that you guys tackled the issue of how to move around without using more than two buttons. It worked out nicely. It took me a while to get used to the movement but I had a lot of fun with it.
Loved the music!
Solid game! The difficulty might be a bit too high as one mistake can set you all the way back. I still had a lot of fun and the mechanics are awesome.
I love the music, the animations, and it comes so naturally on a game pad. Good job!
There is no context really to what you're supposed to do. I figured it out after my second play-through when I just kept going down and I guess I found a portal?
A lot of it is trial and error and guessing which direction to waste all my moves in. I'm still not quite sure if I understand what's going on.
Not bad! It's a simple game but it's not terrible.
It was confusing at first simply because I didn't realize there were saplings. I think you could make them a bit more noticeable or maybe not have them blend into the foreground and ground so much.
I like the music - nice and soothing. Visually, it could use a lot of polishing but for a 48hr compo I'm impressed you got audio, graphics, and game-play in there all by yourself.
Good job!
Great little puzzle game! The music got a bit repetitive and I would have opt for right-clicking being the rotation button but nice nonetheless.
Great game! It is a little short but still fun. My favorite part was having to hide/sneak :)
It's kind of difficult but I think it's because it's a little buggy. I will completely clear a jump but will still die anyway.
Love the music and the graphics aren't bad.
I really enjoyed the story and the graphics. Those little pictures definitely made it more enjoyable!
My only suggestion would be to pick a better font. I know the one you currently have matches the theme but it could be saved for titles and larger text. Once it gets smaller it starts to get illegible.
I love the story and the humor. The graphics are pretty neat too. I wasn't a big fan of the button changing directions - it got super confusing, but I guess that's part of the game play!
I liked the ending! Overall I think it's a nice little game to play. It wasn't too hard though there were some parts that threw me off but I managed to finish it.
The music gets a bit tiresome after a while and the growth power up sounds were starting to get to me. It might be that my volume is a bit high, though.
Good game!
I really liked your game! The jumping mechanics were pretty good and added to the complexity. Great job!
The obstacles were confusing and some of the spaces you have to squeeze between are kind of a bit too tight. However, I did enjoy the challenge and the music added to it. Nice job!
It's s pretty simple premise but I like that you changed the perspective - gives it a little oomph.
I've always liked these Wario-type, fast-paced, mini-games and this was pretty good! The accent at the beginning was a little hard to understand.
Love the music and the graphics. Great stuff!
This was really fun to play. I was a little confused when I got to the third stage because it didn't make sense to me which was small and big but it eventually clicked.
I did felt guilty eating the poor dogs :(
Nice entry!
Such a great looking game! I'm going to have to express the same sentiments here - you aren't given enough time between when you see the obstacle and when you can react to it.
It's super frustrating and while the game sounds nice and looks nice, I stopped after my third death.
Tried to get it to run locally after it not working online, nothing happens. I think it's worth it to properly host/embed it somewhere.
This was barely tolerable for me. I know the slow text is supposed to contemplate the mood and story but this was just ... torture.
I'm conflicted because the story was very well written and it did evoke feelings that I wouldn't think it would but at the same time I was frustrated on how slowly-paced the dialogue was.
Absolutely dig the graphics, music, and sounds. Great sense of mood. Immediate difficulty spike on level 2 was a bit much, but I did feel compelled to keep playing (and dying) repeatedly. Good entry!
A little trouble maneuvering the rock around, but eventually got the hang of it. Really love how the map generation unfolds -- I entered the game thinking "Gee, there's not going to be a lot of space to work with," and was pleasantly pleased the find out the world was much larger than it appeared. Great job on that! Great artwork, as well. Good entry!
Fantastic graphics! Took me a bit to get the hang of the special abilities, but then it was a lot of fun, even playing by myself.
Played to completion, good entry! Found controlling the ship a bit awkward, being unable to turn in place, but got the hang of it. Level screens often seemed to repeat layouts, but difficulty level was right in the sweet spot. Introducing some of the hazards (spike balls, moving things) earlier probably wouldn't hurt, though.
Great job! My cat also enjoyed swiping at the little guy as he ran and jumped across the screen.
Enjoyed the idea quite a bit, good play on the theme. Agree that it's a bit offputting to have to move in order to shoot. The collision on the sawblades was also a little larger than I would have expected.
Damn my peg leg. Good innovation, great take on the theme!
Hah! I laughed out loud when I went to Start, expecting to immediately transition to the first level, but fell off the cliff first, immediately setting the mood and what to expect. Nice touch!
Took me a bit to get the hang of the tank controls -- definitely adds a level of difficulty.
Clever concept and execution. Definite QWOP levels of difficulty, but great job!
I'm... I'm tripping. Too many mushroom. Great entry! Great eye candy, really enjoyed it.
Apologies, I should have explained more in the game description. I originally thought of it as part of the challenge of the game (to figure it out), but given how seemingly random some things appear (they're not -- bacteria just change so fast, it's hard to tell), I'll add that info.
Nanomachines have a hidden health stat, and their size is determined by that. Once it reaches a certain threshold, they divide into two smaller machines (with health divided between them). Health goes up when a nanomachine manages to eat bacteria, but this is a contested action: If the number of bacteria around them is low, they'll generally succeed in eating some. If they're surrounded by too many bacteria, though, they'll take damage instead (get smaller).
Keep in mind, bacteria exist in 3 layers, so there may actually be more bacteria in a given space than there appears -- a good way to gauge this is how opaque they are.
So in general, a good strategy is to move nanomachines to where there are only a few bacteria, and keep them away from dense populations.
Pro tip: As soon as your nanomachines divide the first time, it's probably a good idea to grab one and move it out of the petri dish. That way you always have one in reserve, and don't have to worry about running out of nanomachines.
Good intuition; early on while working, I made it so they would indeed starve without bacteria to eat. It was really hard to balance, however, without ending the game too quickly, so as the deadline approached, that feature got the axe. I intend to drop this game into another game I'm working on as a minigame, so hopefully I'll get it figured out then :)
@shaolin-dave: Thanks, the "tutorial" was actually crammed in shortly after submission, in the form of additional "logos" in the Unity splash screen queue. That's why I added a note in the Changelog about their inclusion, and that I would pull them in the event anyone thinks it violates compo rules. It's a bit fuzzy as to whether a simple info dump like that really qualifies as a feature or not (it's not an actual tutorial, just pictures with info already on the entry page), so I was a bit hesitant to add them, but I know people tend to skip the entry details and go straight to game, so it seemed like a nice thing to do, given the confusing mechanics even if you DO have that info.
Again, if anyone really considers this a full-blow game feature that shouldn't have been added after submission, please let me know, and I WILL yank them to comply.
Oh man, I'm loving this. Great artwork, humorous sound effects, adorable cutesy feel. Also, being able to freely headbutt troublesome children is a lifelong ambition.
Great job!
Follow up: Had to share this game with friends. The concept is just too perfect.
Best pong ever, would pong again. Clever mechanics! Good sounds and sprites, as well. Great job!
Nice polish, and pretty easy to get the hang of. Loved the music and sound effects. Great job!
Enjoyed the frequent narration (I prefer story driven games), so this was a fun play through. Was unable to close the build dialogs, but I think that was a UI scaling issue, and I managed to work around it. Overall, ignoring bugs, good execution on the theme!
Really good quality across the board, especially with the humor. Found myself playing for way longer than I initially expected I would. Intuitive mechanics, almost no need for instructions.
I will never throw away my money. Never.
If you opt to iterate further on the game (you should), some way to turn off security lights/cameras would add some additional fun and challenge (I initially found myself trying to figure out how to do just that).
Great job!
Ambitious, and a great take on the theme. Would love to see this with the other features working. Keep at it!
Eagerly waiting... sounds like an interesting concept, and dig the screenshots.
Wow, knocked it out of the park! Great in every category, nice work!
Had some trouble at first... man those bears fill up fast! I found the barrage upgrade was almost mandatory to make progress. Besides that, had a blast! Many blasts. Too many blasts, resulting from too many BEARS.
Had a great time killing me some Elvis! Controls were a little wonky first starting (couldn't get mouse to turn me around, but eventually it kicked in).
Hey hey, quick and easy tutorial. Dig it! Super hectic to start, I ended up intentionally destroying a number of buildings just to keep myself sane :P Agree, a little easy to accidentally demolish a building with a click. Overall, though, good job!
Hey hey, a kindred spirit with a microbial/biological theme. Great atmosphere. As you mentioned, -really- difficult, but the gameplay is sound, and I enjoyed myself a lot.
Great artwork, and nice to take a breather with a game having only one button :P A few additional mechanics might bump up the fun factor. Perhaps ramps you need to push the pedal to the metal on to clear jumps, or oil slicks you need to slow down at lest spin out of control, or perhaps catch fire.
Good job!
Took me a bit to figure out the controls and mechanics, but did eventually get it. At some point, I just started jumping over enemies rather than deal with them :P Not sure if maybe I should have dealt with them more (perhaps some of them yield more part?). Of course, I got the Selfish ending
Stopping off points were a bit long to traverse -- I'm guessing there was intended to be more to do at them and fill them out with more content. Would love to see the game worked on some more, solid concept!
Music was fantastic! Likewise with the art, hands down this one has set the best Mood of the games I've played.
I was dubious at first, very confused by the tiny window. I have an auto-clicker script I've always had running (activated by right + left click), so once I figured out what I was supposed to do, things started moving REAL quick, and everything made sense.
REALLY cool ideas here! Some performance chug (I think it was the chute causing most of it... performance would fix itself for a few seconds after each upgrade to it). Causing the window to grow as things progressed was NOT expected, and really clever!
Great entry!
Great take on the theme! My only gripe as I was playing was once I got to the last room, I thought the enemy was a bit too easy... then as the fight went on, I realized how wrong that assumption was. I was so close, too...
Saw you mention this on Elysia's stream, and had to check it out. I loved it! And we have similar themes! Took me a bit to figure out how to get that last mouse, but eventually figured it out, and the styoopid human finally accepted all my hard work.
Great entry!
Shame it can't be won, but I found myself sucked in for quite a while trying to get all my resources as high as possible. Couldn't quite find a good use for relics, since the exchange to get them tended to be the same as what you'd get back for using them. But I'm assuming there would have been more uses further along the demon progression. Great entry!
I started out with nothing, but hey, at least I still have most of it left.
Love games like this! Last bit took me a bit to figure out (Are there more puzzles? Do I guess?), but finally got it. Lot of polish in this, even little things I wouldn't have expected to be there. Good job!
Thanks for the heads up on the build not loading everyone -- glad I decided to check my notifications this morning. One of those cases of "Works on my machine" when I uploaded Monday.
Swamped with work right now, but will hopefully get this resolved tonight if I can. Will put a note in the description for now until I can generate a new build with the suggested fix and upload.
This ended up being way more addictive than it had any right to be.
I was stuck... in the compulsion loop. *rimshot*
Loved the creepiness, and all the filters worked well together. Wasn't quite sure what was meant by "don't look away," so I just sprinted for each door as fast as possible. Clever name, too ;)
Really liked the idea of creating more building space as you dug deeper, that was clever. Couldn't quite figure out what the "Build Miner" functionality was supposed to do, but the other structures were fairly straight forward in how to build and what they did. Having resources be discovered as you go deeper rather than generating from nothing would spice things up.
Interface smooth, though had to expand my window to get the scrolling to work reliably.
Good entry!
Really oontzy beat and feel, which I really enjoyed. Got really confused when I kept losing when the semicircles zoomed in, took a number of tries to finally figure out what was expected, that bit could use some clarification. Really great entry!
Wow, that was fun! And HARD! But worth the effort. Really struck by the animation and form transitions, which lent a lot to a feeling of feedback from what I was doing. And a great play on the theme.
Really dig the music and atmosphere, graphics as well. Controls a little tricky, and feels a little short (perhaps unfinished?)
Good job!
Good controls, really interesting lighting effects, and managing of resources was fun. Definitely scores highly on mood. Good entry!
Adored the graphics, and the mood -- spooky settings are my jam. Interesting character dialogue kept me moving forward, and encouraged exploration. Getting stuck in holes occasionally got a little frustrating, but eventually got the knack for getting back out.
Really enjoyed this one.
Waaaay too hard for me (falling too fast, shooting things didn't seem to do anything), so I just cheesed it and hugged the left side of the screen for as long as I could so I could check out more of the awesome visuals. Great graphics and sounds to go with them, just wish I could've gotten farther.
Unfair, this was guaranteed to suck me in with the premise and then it delivered, I'm very upset by this manipulation. Too bad about that final boss battle, I got really excited there for a minute -- finish it!
Really enjoyed this one, hard to go wrong with Scrabble mechanics, and a great iteration on that!
> I'm really curious -- did you also integrate an AI model into Unity to build your LLM simulator?
Narp, it's all just random chance usually, weighted at times by your AI's various stats. Except during the first run of each phase, those always include specific sentences/prompts to help get certain ideas across and set the tone.
Really enjoyed the art and sounds, sets a very peaceful, pensive mood. Took me a minute to figure out what was going on, but once I got it, it was easy to settle into a flow (even if I was only playing by myself).
