Epic game! Graphics were perfect, music was great.
But I just can't get 350 feet, I'm stuck at 334.

Epic game! Graphics were perfect, music was great.
But I just can't get 350 feet, I'm stuck at 334.
Wowzers! It was very deep and very well made. Thanks for the journey!
I'm getting many errors.
In all browsers, when the first game stars, the character falls and brings me to a side-ways version of that level in which the player is gone. If, however, right when the level starts I stop the character from falling, there's no way I can fall. When I tried to jump in Firefox I got error message. Sorry :(
Stranger087, all the game is, is one graphic. No movieclips or images. It is were, I'm pretty sure it would be a lot slower. Particles and the background slow it down a lot though. Press Q to decrease quality if it's that bad ;)
Same with you Pentaphobe, try decreasing quality with Q :)
I like the effect as well :)
I would have liked to make the entities (moving tiles) link up to each other, but I'm sure that would have caused unnecessary lag. And yeah I would have like difficulty and variation too. When I started making it, I just wanted a relaxed, slow-paced game ;)
My sleep was normally from 11:00pm to 7:00am. I didn't really take many breaks. It was a lot of work >.<
I'll make a faster version soon. Sorry for the inconveniences :)
Thewiseguy99, I'm glad you didn't have lag issues! It's weird that some people do and some people don't have problems with that.
Thanks for the music complement Derevensky :)
There definitely are checkpoints. It says so at the beginning of the level (Press R to turn back time)
No you're right, I'm drawing it from a small set of tiles. It's all very quick. The thing that makes it slow down is probably the tiles linking to each other. They have to check the tiles next to it...
Ironically, I wanted to have the colors change to the music, actually! It didn't seem to fit with the design though, and the timing would probably be hard to offset properly.
Thanks! ;D
I raged-quit my own game because the character doesn't like to jump at certain parts. Is this a bad sign? xD
"only run these tile checks for tiles visible to the player?"
Haha of course :)
I'm very glad you were able to play it on a faster computer. Also, thanks for the compliment! My first experience with actual level design was the last MiniLD where I made a puzzle game (Lab Lights) and I thought I did quite well there also..
By of course, I mean of course that's the case already.
If I had to clarify what I meant by 'of course', then no, you shouldn't have known. Sorry 'bout that. I was actually about to comment thrice, haha, but that would have been ridiculous ;)
And yes, making things work together is not an easy task. I'm sure we all know that! I left out a part of the game where a moving wall carried up a box, but I realized that I didn't make box fall physics like the players. I turned that into the spike-wall part. :)
Thanks for liking it ;D
I know about lag. People have been angering me about it on Newgrounds all week. (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/601953)
But my engine worked fine will all my older games; I'm not sure what's wrong with this one. :(
*with -_-
Thank you very much for coming back, I really appreciate it :)
Thank you! The collision on buttons is because the character slightly sinks into the ground, therefor the button's never pressed. Oops! xD
Thanks everyone for your feedback!
Oooh the results are coming soon! Again, thanks everyone for commenting, playing, and rating! I did manage to play 60 games, and most of them were impressive!
#61 overall is nice! Apparently you guys didn't think I fit the theme, or was funny enough! I made up for innovation and some bonus coolness though ;)
I couldn't play. The game started up and it was just flickering like crazy. Hope you get it fixed!
I wish you luck Jawn! I can't believe you made this by yourself after only making, like, 3 Flash games in the past. You've definitely got potential :)
Yep no link. Make sure you put the http:// before the link (That seemed to fix it for my friend)
Aww I can't try it out :(
The program crashes as soon as I try to open it in Windows XP.
Same here.
Hey commenters! Thanks for playing and rating! I'm SO happy that I didn't get any complaints about lag yet; my last Ludum Dare was a wreck in that perspective.
Ix: I agree that it is kind of slow. I felt that no one would replay the game anyway (since I haven't added anything to come back for, such as achievements), so I just made it a bit longer. I'll have to fix that soon :)
Yogr: Thanks for getting the point! The game's more about the fact that you're the boss, and you can do whatever you want!
Aeveis: I was thinking about that while I was play-testing, but didn't act upon it. That'll be something to change. Thanks!
Gravity Games: I'm glad you enjoyed it! The stamina can be a bit annoying, I agree. It's something I can tweak to make it more fair :)
Edocentrique: My slogan for making games is that you can never have too many particles. ;D
I should have made it X, and pick up Z or something. Don't tap on shift to use fire, as a quick-fix. Thanks ;D
illugion: Thanks! I was thinking about adding some sort of way to just eat people, but I don't know exactly how it can be properly implemented... I have to think about it.
Shugor: Thanks for your review! Buildings do give you a lot of goodies, and I was considering decreasing that. Either that, or increase the amount that other animals produce. The background music is quiet mainly because my last feature was making the game mutable. I'll raise the volume in the post-compo version.
dansludumdare: Thanks for commenting! Yes, I thought of many ways to make it feel more organic, but graphics took me too long already, and I decided to leave it out. I'm actually glad because it keeps it more polished, rather than having extra glitchy features. The glitch you found is actually just a non-generated tile made by the world generator (it's actually NEXT to the house, in an empty tile). I noticed it happen a few times while testing, yet I have NO idea why it occurs. I already fixed it post-compo. Thanks for letting me know anyway ;D
DavidErosa: Thanks! I'm planning on adding in-game help with the controls (they'll show up on the screen somewhere).
Martin Vilcans: The pass was mentioned before - it's going to be improved post-compo. Having at least some inertia could be more realistic, I like that idea. :) Press M to mute the game. Thanks for the comment and ideas!
Someone: (I like your username) The broken block has been mentioned in my previous long-reply. Stamina will be tweaked as well. I'd rather not annoy the players like this x)
Woah typo!
*Martin Vilcans: The progression will be improved post-compo.
Benjamin: Yeah they don't catch on fire very easily, even when you're flame is all leveled up. Also, what do you mean by impact damage zone?
Luis Anton: Hm, it does look a little similar; I just looked Alley Cat up, haha. xD The funny thing is my live stream joked around that it was a cat with wings -_-
Eamon: Graphics wise, it is glitchy. Speaking in code, it works like a charm. I could be wrong however - there is probably a variable of ways to break the game :)
Jujule: Yay :3
Thanks Maple ;)
The people don't actually have health, unfortunately. They just instantly die after they've been on fire for a random amount of time. This will be improved upon in the full version. I know about the random invisible block and I fixed it too. Too bad I didn't have time to figure it out during the compo!
The pace of the game is slow. I actually cut it in half for the post-compo version (and it feels a lot better).
Thanks for your feedback!
Jackspinoza: That's really cool! I'm not old enough to have much nostalgia of the NES, but now that you bring it up, I understand what you mean. Thanks for bringing that up! I think this serves as a lesson - something along the lines of 'design games primarily for fun, not for purpose.'
It doesn't have much, but it is very complete and fun to play. The difficulty is PERFECT - I didn't get frustrated but it did take me some time to finish (one time, I was just a few seconds away from the exit!). Great music, nice graphics, and fun :D
Woah this is amazing. This is a great game - the graphics are amazing, the audio fits very well, and all of the features are there! I think the junk should have been more fun to collect - it didn't add anything meaningful to the game, in my perspective. I just loved the exploration part. The white outline of the text is distracting and doesn't seem to fit the theme very well. Perhaps a shadow would be more acceptable. Other than that, *fantastic* job!
I can't really see how it is possible to actually beat it with only 10 health. It's pretty cool though, anyway - a great entry ;D
This was quite interesting! It had character, I must say. :D
Wow you had practically the same idea as I did! Arrows and everything! I really liked the map and the overall design. It felt like a pretty solid game.
I loved how the villagers would yell "OH NO!" and stuff. Small touches like that were fun to see, and it looks like you added a lot of them! I'm very impressed by how much stuff you managed to add in 48 hours.
I do think level game progression was a bit too slow for my liking, but there was a lot of content to see anyway.
Overall, it's a great game! Good job! ;D
I really like this one! I love the little details you added in, like the how they can fall down as they walk. Great job! ;D
132. Yeah at first I was like "Seriously? That's it?" but after you upped the levels I thought it was a great game. Hope you can continue to work on this :D
Love the goat clouds, by the way.
Ima beast, Cell.
So yeah, I thought it was pretty nice. Could use a lot of work to make it a finished product, but what you have is pretty solid. I wonder how far you could have gone if you made it in 2 days :O
Nitpicks:
The background music was way too calm for a game like this. I'd expect ultra-epic chiptunes or something, haha. Also, the shooting sound still resonates in my head.
Was the "lots of people visits" a typo, or for humor? If it were for humor, I think it should stick out more :D
Great submission! :D
Nice work for 7 hours! I like the creative level design, and taking advantage of clipping through the block to make solving the puzzles more challenging. At first when I heard that you had limited jumps, I wasn't sure how 'hard' a game of such design could be, but thankfully, it made me think about how I was going to solve it.
Great game for the theme! Good luck!
Thank you Hyaku, I hope the finished product turns out well :)
Thanks for the comment Brunodev! I always appreciate your feedback <3. Remember to check out bitmapData if you want to make pixel-y games :D
Hi arrogant.gamer! I didn't expect the music to be liked so much, actually - I spent literally 15 minutes on it haha. Well I'm super glad it worked out. Yes, the game was more designed around getting the highest score rather than just beating the level (I would connect it to Game Center for iOS). I might perhaps have a menu for selecting different game modes to change that kind of game play too.
Thanks for your comments ;)
RARoadkill - I would love to try it out on my iPod in the near future.
Tanius - I actually never intended for it to be difficult. It was more of a speed thing, I guess. I did think about different game modes, where difficulty does play a factor in some modes.
Thanks! I'm glad you saw the video. I loved all of the games I saw on it.
Thanks for your compliment GhostID! I was actually quite surprised that I actually came up with a unique idea for the theme. That was most likely due to me being half asleep in a hotel room before a party, haha. When I thought of minimalism, I thought simple game rules, and simple concepts. I started with just blocks going in an elliptical path, because that was easiest to code. Then as time went on I decided circles would look better. I downloaded GIMP and made them into circles which turned out great. Lastly, I added a couple more shapes to make the game more challenging and pleasing to the eyes. At first the text were hand-drawn graphics, but once I got back home I spent a few minutes implementing the text rendering code I made in an earlier project. All in all I'm really happy how the graphics and game rules both match the theme at the extent I was hoping for.
Thanks for the comment joe40001. The sound effects were very rushed actually, and I see what you mean about the match noise being weird, hahaha! I didn't exactly want this to be very frustrating as a first play, actually. I was more focused on the score mechanic, where your goal is to beat your high score (and eventually, others). Plus I am not sure how it will fend on iOS yet.
Hey Sebastian, thanks for playing. High score boards are planned for iOS, and I have not yet added the Newgrounds/Mochimedia api yet. I would also love to see how the competition stacks up! From what I've seen so far, your score is actually really good! Still need a little work to beat my high score though: 271231. ;)
Yes, zkenshin, it's going to be for iOS :) (I do not have a phone.)
Thanks very much SEPHY - TurboDindon!
I agree with the difficulty of grabbing pieces. Perhaps grabbing pieces should be made easier than placing them, just to be more fair with the gameplay. We'll see what happens when I make it for iOS.
Thanks OnlySlightly!
Wow this game sure was polished. I like the attention to the different categories of the voting - it had it all.
This is definitely something you can beat after a few minutes. Good job!
Awesome job Brunodev! You're improving so much it's insane! Keep up the amazing work. I really like your humorous style and creative ideas.
Since there's minimal controls, and simple rules, I think minimalism fits with it well. Good luck sir!
Fun little game man. I liked how the difficulty ramped up at a steady rate, rather than being completely easy/completely difficult. Nice mechanics, and clever idea ;)
Boodog: Thanks Boodog! I'm happy you were able to join me in LD this time, it was a blast!
Terrabyte: Thank you very much! I think this would be an interesting thing to expand upon, maybe even make a mobile app for it.
Puzzlem00n: Hey, thanks for comin' by! Yeah, the 10 seconds theme was really tough (I hate timed games to begin with). I decided to make a game that didn't really have a consequence for making a mistake, haha! If I were to continue the game, I'd change the timing to 20+ seconds or something. Your recommendation about the score on each person is nice. Their smiles give it away, but an extra verification would definitely be great.
TehPencilmaster: Haha, thanks dude! I'm glad it's not very difficult! And nice game, yourself! I was very happy you decided to join with me :D
Entity2D: Thanks for commenting, and also for joining the stream! I'm glad you made it for the Jam, haha good job! :D
pbdiode: Thank you XD
Hello Martin_Monosys!
Haha, the 'lying' portion of the game was unintended, but it is something I tried to factor out. Unfortunately I wasn't sure how to do it, so I just stuck with it. Another lesson you could think about is 'the truth hurts'. Good point nonetheless! :)
Thanks!
Roan Contreras: Thanks for commenting/rating! It was a fun weekend, but very tiring.
BNeutral: I totally agree. Didn't know exactly how to get around it. 10 seconds is a bit too short and I would have gone with 15 seconds, 20 second, or not time limit at all if this was a serious game. Thanks!
xhunterko: Thanks! I understand how fast it goes, and it definitely was something I wanted to rethink... but... 10 seconds! Haha, after playing a few times, you start to get in the swing of the conversations. In a remake, I'd love to change the time limit, as I mentioned in my previous comment. :)
Capro, I'd love to concider making it a bigger game! I've never put a price tag on my games yet, but if I could make this for the mobile/iOS platform, I'd wager some people might support the game. Thank you ;D
Wow, that was really creepy, dude... PERFECT! Nice work, haha :D
Haha nice work on your first entry, bud! I forgot to comment when I rated, lol, but my feedback is pretty much the same as the above commenters.
I thought it was fun and exciting - 10 seconds felt like 20 when you're sprinting for an exit, haha! The only issue I had was the jumping. It made me rage a few times, hehe. Good job nonetheless <3
I love that cat's smile! :3
Really cool game! The gameplay seems really balanced and I love it.
Great game! I really love the idea, and you executed it really well, with nice graphics and everything :)
Thanks *everyone* for playing, rating, and commenting! Went off to check out some awesome games and came back surprised to see a flow of comments <3!
gmfk07, I was contemplating for a few hours on how to make that not an issue! Thanks to some Skype buds for helping me brainstorm! Sorry about the lag. I realized this when I played at school (shh!). The slow-down effect doesn't help in that case, haha! Hope it didn't ruin the game for you!
FrozenCow! Thank you!! Once I got the idea for it, I knew it had to be very powerful and trippy. I don't know where the idea game from either, and it's kinda awkward to explain to people, haha :)
Desmarkie, that's exactly what I was hoping for! Thanks!
SerialVelocity - :D! I did test that before, and you can definitely hit everything that comes at you if you plan a bit ahead :)
Thanks again, everyone! Your comments are too kind! :D
Xaedes and HeyChinaski, the background is actually pretty easy! I used Flash's Perlin noise function. Feel free to download the source if you want. But this site has a really cool code generator that makes it much easier to set up:
http://houseofthead.com/blog/flash-as3-perlin-noise-explained-and-demonstrated-part-1/
:D
Oh boy, more insanely kind comments! You guys rock <3!
Thanks Symmeteer, and great job beating it in only 2 tries! :)
You're right about the lag. I wish Flash was just a tad bit faster, haha, because I loooove particles a lot!
Gosh, that's a very generous rating olafsworld98! Thanks so much :D
xk - that's exactly my intentions! :3
This is a really amazing game with beautiful graphics. Fantastic work! I just love seeing games from you!
I'm getting a 404 error! Your account even seems gone D:
I really loved the idea! Nice work!!
Gosh, great work Bruno! Could use better graphics, and some "fleshing" out (heehee), but besides that, I love how there are different types of zombies, powerups, and the gameplay is straightforward. :D
Such a clever idea, it's amazing!
You should make this become a much bigger thing, it has so much potential and it's already really cool. Nice job Folis :D
I like the consistent style! Level design has some really great potential! :D
With the right strategy, the game is actually pretty easy! But nice work! The art is fun and I like how you can hit other guys by throwing them xD
Haha that's great for your first LD! Keep up the good work! Thanks for using my characters. It'd be nice if you credited me for them, but it's not a big deal xD
Good job!
Played again! Still a really cute game :)
<3!
Wow, really cool mechanics!! The last stage sent me to the second level. Isn't that considered a game-breaking bug? You can fix it ;D
The idea was really cool! Good game!
The dialogue is fantastic! Great job with this! I love the little details throughout it. The black background was sort of sinister xD
Thanks for the comments! It's fun to see how players take the challenge, and how some people get all of the achievements and beat the game, incredibly. I'm thinking about how I can make it more balanced (less frustrating, still a challenge). I'm guessing I'd need to add lots of levels, where it starts out easy and gets more of a challenge for experienced players. That'd be a fun, full, release-worthy game, right? :D
I was hoping for a tip on how "jumping can be tweaked a bit." I'm not much of a game player, which probably explains why I don't notice what's wrong with it. @madflame991 ;)
Thanks!
@d__adee! This game is totally beatable lol! I'm not too good with difficulty balancing, am I? XD! Thanks bro!
@MrJohnson22, thanks so much!! :D Your comment is really nice!
The lava balls are actually timed to be exactly the same timing (although they are still a bit unfair nonetheless). I agree I could have made them better!
Also, great job at 29 worms, haha! That's no easy task! :)
These gameplay mechanics are perfectly balanced and are really fun to play with. You are one genius designer! xD
Nice game! You did really well with the graphics and humor (that ending was so random xD)! I just wish Unity had a more stable physics engine to work with, since it made jumping seem a little inconsistent.
:D Nice game, Bruno! I figured out the strategy to beat it and went to town! I have that music stuck in my head and I thought the concept was nicely designed. Good work ;D
Great work Adee! I love how much symbolism you put into your game... it's really surprising and interesting to see how you connected it to the theme like that.
Collision seemed a bit strange, but otherwise it was creative and has lot of potential! You took the concept to a different level that shows how you can expand even the most basic of ideas into something powerful and complex :)
Hahaha wow this game is so strange; I love it! It would be really cool for this to have a high score board to see how good some people get at it xD!
Wow dude this is insanely nice! There's a lot of potential in your execution here and I think it would be cool to see a mobile app of this some time in the future haha :D Great job!
Nice game! The story at the start is cool, and I love what you did with all of the different mechanics! Great job! :D
That spider is evil.
What a nicely polished game!! If the gameplay was balanced a little more (more threats, a bit faster paced), this would be a perfect game to market ;) Good job!
Thanks gana0! :)
I don't want the coins to lead you directly to the end - I want them to be an added challenge. That being said, a compromise would be pretty neat... I'm not sure how to go about that though :\
Thank you so much Danidre! That's the first time I ever made a score thing like that - I'm so happy that it worked out :] (I think it's a little buggy, but it's the best I had time for, haha). It's all about timing - you just need a variable to stop the game, keep track of time, and add up the score as time goes by. It feels hackish, but it works!
Glad you figured out your level :) I should make a thing that warns you when you're stuck and should reset.
Thanks @Zwergesel! :) True, the entire game isn't visible at once, haha, but in terms of game design, I'd never want randomly generated levels of varying difficulty on one screen... especially for mobile. XD Instead, I interpreted the theme to be representing the levels... and snowmen. :D
Thanks, fellow devs! I appreciate the feedback.
I'm really glad to hear the music didn't get annoying to you, @Ossi! Usually I get a few hours to make the music, but this time I had like 7 minutes. But I'm really glad you like it (:
I love how you guys liked the level design :D I'm wondering if you guys knew that the levels are generated randomly each time you make a new game? It makes the experience much more interesting, if you ask me :3
Also, I'd like to mention that I play and rate the games of everyone who comments here. :]
Thanks again for the comments, you awesome devs! (All your games are really neat and cute and fun - I'm rating all of yours <3)
@Kotucz, yes you did! Your level design is really nice! I love how your first level looks almost exactly like how mine generates the first level(s). :D And yeah, most of the time I was fiddling with the generator to make it work perfectly, haha. :D That's why my UI and stuff could use a bit of love ;)
@rjhelms Thank you! Honestly I wouldn't have done this Ludum Dare if the level difficulty wasn't so quantifiable! I was surprised how things just... worked out!
@01101101 Thanks for looking at the post! I hope it encourages people to try level generation some time :D
@pvtroswold Ohh don't give up, haha! I can confidently say that it is possible ;D My room mate and I played one level and it took us almost 10 minutes to figure out a puzzle. xD It felt so good when we found the solution! Thank you!
@klianc09 I'm really glad you like the music! I'll develop it further for the actual release :D
@ViKing Games Thanks for the review! The theme was interpreted more based on the game play, not so much the aesthetics ;) I was more interested in the snowman theme anyway, haha! Cool idea though!!
@Grindstorm I think I know what you're talking about. The goal is to land on the end, not to pass through it :) That might be where you're getting stuck. Thanks!
@alabebop :D Thanks, I did my very best to make it look polished in the last few hours!
Yes! You're right @GFM, I've noticed that too. I'll probably lessen the chance of water appearing on most levels. :]
@igoramendola Oh cool! Thanks for reading about it! Those posts got way more <3 than I imagined :O
And I'm working on the mobile port right now! https://vine.co/v/O6YnzpPbTMp This might be my first mobile app!!
Thanks, commenters!
@Si1ver HOURS? Holy cow XD :D
Wow! I really love how you brought in multiple stOnes, which makes the puzzle dynamic and challenging! Great job. Your level design is great.
Beat it on my first try, but it took me a few more tries to understand the win condition exactly, haha! Great job; I love figuring out Towlr games. I think this was a cute submission! :D
A rage-platformer to the max! It's pretty fun once you figure things out ;) I like the added challenge of getting gems!
My biggest problem with it is having the level so small on the screen. Yes it fits great with the theme, but it isn't really that good for the gaming experience (just imagine a Lets Play with it - it'd be so small on the screen!). Maybe you could make a second version later on that's viewable in a different way?
Other than that, you just need to polish things up at this point! :D
- The art is nice! Just kind of dark. Those dungeons be scary, haha!
- Even though some of the sound effects are low quality, it reminds me of old games I used to play XD Nice choice using Chipzel's music! She's an amazing artist :D
- Some times I phase through walls, haha! It happens to the best of us. You're close with the physics though! Using boxes and buttons and levers and water is really cool! You fit a lot into a tiny space! :D
I think this is another big improvement from you! Good job, and keep up the great gamedev work! :D
Very clever idea! I think you should take the idea and expand it into a polished game :) maybe it could be more arcade-y!
Anyway, great job ;D!
Thanks a ton, everyone! :D
mtanton - Oh yes the cutscene is my favorite part! The design of it was so fun to create! :D I tried doing defeating the boss before the top room, too! After I succeeded, I made it 3 times harder to do, hah!
WeaselZone - Woah yeah I was also really surprised I was able to get as far as I did! I'm worn out now though haha! Whoof! Next time I will have to come up with a super simple idea! XD
Suese - Glad you were able to figure it out! I was going to add text instructions in the level, but decided to just make the level design hint at your abilities, in an attempt to increase immersion. Plus, at least the boss waits for your to figure things out ;)
Thanks again everyone so much for your kind comments! I appreciate it!
Good luck fluidvolt and JenniNexus! :D
I'm really happy with the framework also, Buko-Studios! It runs well too, so I'm seriously considering to make a full game with this code! I need to visit all my old Ludum Dare sequels I promised too... haha.
I'll probably need to redesign the level, nicotuason. I can improve it in a lot of ways, I believe!
Thanks, danidre14! I'll make the boss fight more discrete in the polished version. That should make things more fair!
I agree that the controls could be a bit tighter, maunovaha! It's pretty challenging to get the timing to work with fast pace controls, but I'll do my best! (Also in response to seraphki)
Haha TheLemonKing, I also noticed that when I started speedrunning - it was easy to fix for the final version. But for this version, use it to your advantage ^^
You're suggesting even more damage pkenny?! Some people think it's hard enough as it XD Maybe I should get inspired by your dynamic difficulty when redesigning the boss's behavior, haha!
Thanks OnlySlightly, I really appreciate your attention to the game design! I really wish I could have made particle sprites before the compo ended, but I knew it was necessary to have some sort of detail ;) Screen shake works magic as well :D
That was awesome to see you stream the game JenniNexus! Thanks for that! And I cannot believe how many times you got the dress in a row! Hope you beat it!
Thanks thanks everyone ;D
Yeah Pilly, I'll make a proper HUD that shows the weapons and the stolen item when the game begins :D Also some more graphical hints and differences with those things! Thanks!
Awesome playthrough Vaughn! I really enjoyed watching you figure things out! Thanks for playing!
Ah I gotcha, pkenney! I thought that's what you meant at first, but wasn't sure. Yep I'll definitely make it more obvious and effective when you or the villain takes damage!
Thank you so much to all the new commenters and viewers <3 :D
CarlsonAndPeeters, haha yeah as I said I would have loved to make the weapons do unique and different things. But the funny thing is as I'm working on the post-compo version, I realize how impossible it is to balance the weapons and keep the game fun. So I think (even for the post compo), it's best that the weapons are just reskinned versions of the same thing. :)
Yep I'm aware of that bug awestsecurity xD It's really fun to find speedrun exploits like that. It was simple to fix in post-compo, but sadly it's not game breaking so it will remain in the LD version :)
Thanks for the handful of 5 stars, eastes! You're very kind! I love the compo, regardless of how stressful it is lol! ^v^
Thanks so much everyone for your comments! :D
Madball - love the constructive criticism! As I mentioned earlier, unique abilities to weapons is nearly impossible to balance. I spent a few days working on that post compo, but it really isn't as amazing as I thought it would be from the original idea. Basically you can't tweak the speed, fire rate, or power, or else it doesn't feel as fun anymore. ;) I like your idea of a pointer to the boss - I might do that post compo. I'm not going to make a big game out of it, but thanks for your awesome optimism :D
Yep the shooting in multiple directions is a known bug SteveSalmond. :) Was easy to fix post compo. Use it to your advantage for speedrunning - someone was able to get 40 seconds I believe! The boss is actually able to rapid fire by tapping in two directions too, so I guess those two bugs balanced out!
Jackugile - now that would be a ton of work! Wish I had the motivation to go that route. Maybe some other time - the engine that I started would be pretty handy!
Crowbeak - Haha music is actually leveled just below the standard of 0 db (then reduce 80% in-game), so it's not actually loud. I'm guessing the high frequencies were amplified by your headphones. :) I took to the time to have a mute option during the compo as usual. XD
Very nice work! Great art and puzzle design. I wasn't expecting that ending - and it was perfect! Character design was well done, also. :)
My only negative comment would be that the movement sound got obnoxious. It was still funny though xD
You did an excellent job with this! The graphics are really slick and the entire game feels well polished. Also, awesome ending ;)
Aww, very cute game/toy! I love the smiley faces on everything! :) :3 ^-^
Really cool game! Loving the art and sound design! The turn-based mechanics are nice - it had more options and scenarios than I would have guessed! Sadly, I didn't have a friend to play, but from what I could experience, the game play feels nicely balanced. Although I can't quite tell if ducking is helpful because the animations seem ordered.
Anyway, the dialog is funny and great, and the idea is funny - I love the options for building your player, and choosing options that will help you with your strategy. :D
Great job, keep up the great work everyone :D
Such a beautiful creation! :D I'd love to see you further develop this into some sort of art-based game. Keep it up :D
You did a great job with this - I think the idea has a lot of potential! Awesome music and art :]
Cool game mechanic! The backstory is great ;) It's actually a challenging little game. Great job dude!
Ah wow, this is really well done - it feels like something I'd have played all day in grade school! Fantastic work, A+ for you! ;D
And that End Of File thing is evil! XD
HAHA omg! Your idea turned out really well! I love all the little details you put into it. All the sounds were perfect.
I think the two things that would really make this game a huge hit would be more action (putting it on the top of a pyramid or something ridiculous xD), and some user interaction (like a boost?). :D
And boy is that top hat a challenge XD!
Clever idea, I like it! It feels good when you get past the enemies - it feels very stealthy. If it was refined and less randomized, I think you'd have a great start to a cool game! Frequent checkpoints would be handy xD Good job :D
I like that you told a short story through a game. Each of the different game mechanics in the mini games were cool - the mechanics changing is like a metaphor about technology changing. :) Great job!!
Wow you weren't kidding, nice plot twist!
The game design is well thought out. I really love the music cute graphics too. Altogether, it's quite a fun little game. Best of luck! :D
Fantastic puzzle!! I definitely think you should make a polished version of this - I can see people really enjoying it on mobile and PC. I'm amazed that you have 40 levels!
I love how you made use of the two buttons! Really cool idea!
It SEEMS to get too fast, where you can't really hone in your skills to be precise enough. Maybe the same control scheme can be applied to a more balanced game style or goal?
And awesome work with the sounds - they were effective and pleasant!
Incredible!! The mechanics work super well, and the game looks beautiful. Great job with level design and difficulty too. Not much else to say - you both should be proud ;)
Very incredible work! The gameplay is nearly perfect, and all the art feels polished and moody. I love how the game is challenging, but fun - especially in that you can try out different paths to progress. Keep up with the great work!! I can see this potentially being a successful game in the market. :D
I really like it! The game flows quite well and is fun to play! Those eye pimples though... ouch. XD Good work! :D
I really loved how clever this puzzle was! It's awesome how it directs you toward the solution without making it entirely obvious what to do. And I loved how you introduced the concepts.
Excellent work! ;D
Absolutely beautiful game! The physics and the graphics were practically perfect. It's really inspiring, and matched both themes better than I've seen any other game so far. Love it, excellent work!! ;D
A good start for a game - that's what LD is for!
An interesting mechanic that you probably didn't intend, is that the size of the window determines how challenging the game is - sorta fits with the theme of "grow"! ;)
I love how satisfying it is to watch a level end, with all your blips and bloops haha. Very nice work!! I agree that you should increase the difficulty quicker :)
So many comments! Thank you all! <3 I will be checking out everyone's games soon, I promise!
Danidre: I can't say for sure if I'll participate in the next one! It's really hard planning around my school schedule. And I have an exam to take today, so thanks for the good luck :D
JanGames & tgrehawi: I should have totally spent more time adding more variation to the walls!
Justinooncx & Aurel Bílý & Fanttum: Getting mixed comments on difficulty! I really need to figure out how to balance this :)
Fanttum, the shots end on the screen as a gameplay element. You can always see your bullets and plan their locations - also it gives you a chance to see incoming walls and stuff before you destroy them)
GAFBlizzard & killthealias & esayitch: The tutorial is too difficult? I must really be used to it by now. Thanks for letting me know! :)
gkxd: A rhythm game! That would actually be pretty cool, but that would be so difficult to balance with gameplay xD Thanks!
Gyfis: I had mobile in mind when I made the resolution! I might work on it after Spike Tower!
Waynetron: The hardest part was trying to make the game balanced with constant shooting! Thanks!
Thanks again everyone for the kind feedback!!! I did make a post compo version that improves in most of the areas you guys mentioned. The level design was fixed, the tutorial is 4% easier, and I added a scoreboard (There you go, @CrownCity :D)!
I really slacked off on playing everyone's games, but I still plan on getting to it soon. I want to rate everyone back and give feedback if I can. Love your games so far! <3
Thanks @ButtonMasherBros for checking out the game! I wish I had a way to make it more obvious that the seeds feed the plant and make you lose a heart!
And thank you Jupiter_Hadley for playing too! Your commentary is always pleasant and to the point. Keep up the great work!
First of all, yes it's super stressful. If this was my job, I would like to be paid pretty well, haha ;)
But this is a REALLY good concept, and it's executed really well. I would love to see a full game like this, because I feel like there's a lot of room for amazing gameplay with this concept. The important part would be to give the player breaks, so they're not rushing during the whole gameplay.
Great work!
Very nice jam entry!! You have potential to expand this in so many ways :)
Either way, what you have now is really nice. Love the concept and the mechanics are very clever. The way you implicitly convey the tasks is brilliant too. Great work!
I'm not sure that kind doesn't have morals! But that's cool because you were able to do some unique things with them. I think their path following is nicely done. All things considered, it's a great little game :D
I really love the water reflection - great work with the graphics! Would love to see a final polished version, because I think it has awesome potential to be a really fun platformer.
This is a cute small game! I really love that you included a quote - made it feel more meaningful. I hope you inspire some more people with it :)
Very nice looking game! It was calming and enjoyable to play. Nice work! :D
Haha! Very very well done! I saved the orphans <3 The physics were ridiculous but it definitely added to the charm. Good luck!
Great job!! I love the design of the game - it's memorable and atmospheric.
Very cute game with awesome graphics!
The controls didn't feel very natural to me, since it failed me when it looks like I timed it fine. But other than that it was nice! An (endless) arcade mode would definitely suit a game like this. :D Great work!!
I like how the mechanics of shooting, growing, and colliding with enemies kind of balances themselves out. And I really love the different enemy types you've added. Great work!
A fun and challenging game. Seems well balanced!
I'm not sure what I think of the powerup system, but I don't think it should be about guessing or remembering which colors do what.
I had to play in Chrome because there were lag spikes in Firefox. Your post-mortem didn't work in Firefox at all o_o. Everything worked fine in Chrome though.
All in all, great little game! Best of luck!! Hope to see this on mobile ;)
Amazing work! Love all the mechanics you added - they seem to work really well, especially with how the difficulty progresses and your decisions are forced to be quicker.
Awesome art, has music, runs great, fits the themes, is quite fun... you really have it all, don't you!
Very cool game! I wish I had a friend to play it with, but thankfully you threw in a CPU to play against! Very nice job with the design, too.
You definitely started with a great idea. I think if you put a lot of polish into it, you could make an amazing party game out of it! :D
Excellent use of the controls them - it's simple but it's what makes the game so fun. Very nice work - it's very fun, simple, pretty, and totally rage inducing! ;)
You should consider making a full version (for mobile?) :D
Well done! I love the animations and the puzzle was fun.
It seemed like it was more about figuring out how the game wanted me to accomplish the tasks, rather than figuring out how everything should interact to proceed. That's okay, but not as rewarding as the other way around.
Either way, it's adorable and has a great level of polish for a game of this style. Love it! :D
Hahaha XD I don't know what else to say! I played a couple times and got my lowest score to 272. My poor keyboard xD
Incredible as usual! :D Obviously the game was short with the frantically-put-together level, but it's really obvious how much skill and hard work you put into things like this. I really hope you make a post-compo version of this. <3
I really like it! It's a funny game, with a really simple fun mechanic ;) Excellent job with the polish to the game.
Haha! Awesome! I love the grandma, and the fun style to the art. And what a clever use of screen size!
Well done! I made it above Zeriver - keeping the leaderboard alphabetical I guess ;)

Did you get the idea from Multitask?
I love how you have the player flailing to use different buttons - numbers, WASD, Space, and arrows. Really challenging but really fun! Definitely a thing you could get better at with a lot of practice and patience. An in-game scoreboard would be fantastic - I'm sure it would get more people really into it. :)
Also, I love the track you made for the game!
Extremely cool graphics! The gameplay and sound is nice too! Overall a really relaxing and well-made game. Excellent work Daandruff :)
I like that you explored having a shop and a level structure - makes the game have more replayability. Great work :)
Nice little game Erfeo! It seemed a bit buggy, but I think you balanced your time well enough (3 stages, whoo!). I liked how you changed things up for each stage, including the dragon graphic of course. I hope you consider making a polished post-LD version! :)
Gameplay ROCKS, great work! It's quite balanced and fun (not sure if every part is possible to beat though). I can imagine a leaderboard would do quite well for this game ;)
I like your idea! I wonder if you could expand this prototype into a simple tycoon-type game. Or I guess it also could be an idle clicker game, haha.
Fantastic game all around - even seemed polished! :D I'm not sure if the difficulty is based mostly the random cloud movement or not, but I guess it's comparable to Doodle Jump's difficulty, which is a good thing considering how popular Doodle Jump became. Great work!!
Very nicely done! The mechanics are super cool and feel very retro-arcade (the visuals and sound helps with that too of course, haha).
I would have rather had the controls inverted though; it makes more sense to me to press up to go upward instead of downward.
Either way, I got used to it. Very solid game. Good luck!!
Very cool idea for the theme! I like how the role of RNG adds a skill mechanic to the game. Feels pretty balanced!
Excellent job!
I really love the creativity here! Simple, but fun timing game!
I'd argue it's a one-button game, but hey I see you're point, and it does take quite a bit of skill to make a full game with one button, haha. So, awesome job ;)
Reminds me of the good ol' days playing Pocket Tanks and such! It looks good too :) Nice work and good luck!
Haha, your voice acting was the best part xD
Great job making something with what little time you had.
I imagine it as though the pilot has no idea what they're doing, so when they start falling they freak out and press everything they can - hence one button to do everything.
I'm really glad you were able to join the compo! For a really simple game, I think it gets its point across well, which is really cool! Although I hope I never have to spam-click to save someone's life... because clearly it hurts XD
Anyway, if you had more time, definitely focus on making it more interactive. Eye candy and visual/audio feedback go a long way! :D
It's fun!! I can imagine it would be an amazing mobile app with some extra polish (score, multipliers, and leaderboards would be super cool!). Good luck :D
Nice game!! The gameplay and story really fit together perfectly.
Your approach to this was really cool! I love how the UI changes to help you navigate the menus. Good luck with the post-LD version. You definitely have a great concept that I think a lot of gamers could get into.
Gosh, you all managed to complete a surprisingly fantastic game within the Jam! Doesn't seem like you considered the themes though? Great job nonetheless!
Very unique game ideas and mechanics! I wonder if you could have implemented "growing" in the engage part of the game - it would be cool to have some sort of context as to what the game on the right is. Love the style, great work!
I think you made an amazing game, with clever mechanics and a wonderful atmosphere!
I agree with the previous comments about controls and everything. It was way too hard for me as well, but not in a bad way - I felt like the mistakes were my own, and that I could improve if I kept trying. That being said, starting the levels off easier for new players, or changing the controls at least, would definitely be a good idea.
This game has it all! I was surprised that you had time to add the shop and everything - At first I expected the game to go on forever! Excellent work with everything - I hope you get great scores on this :)
It's actually really satisfying to play this! I love how the bigger you get, the more of the disc you can see. It seems well balanced, and it's really fun to play. Good job!
I can't stop thinking about what just happened XD Great job with the weird story concept, and I love the graphics and sound. Awesome work!
I think you came up with a really cool concept! Needs a lot of tweaking, but definitely worth experimenting with. It would be pretty cool to watch an experienced player playing this game.
I'm not sure I understand why you have the growing/shrinking mechanic depend on the color. I think it should either not be a mechanic at all, or depend on the ball, to encourage switching. I don't know xD
Not sure why dos said it wasn't a web game... it is.
Anyway, good luck with the post-compo version!
Awesome work!! I got 82 seconds ;) The art and sounds are great and establish quite an atmosphere. Overall the game plays really well and is quite fun!
I feel like the controls are backwards than what I would have expected, which might have made it unnecessarily difficult to get used to... but I do really love the unique door mechanic you have.
Not that it makes any difference on your score, but I noticed you misspelled "platforms" a couple times.
Good game!
Gameplay wise, I was hoping that you'd be able to grow a bit more, the more your colony grew, so you'd feel more powerful and be able to progress more. It'd also have more of an impact when you lose a member.
That being said, it IS nice that that the game is score-based, since it's harder to keep a large colony. From that perspective it's nicely balanced. Good job to both of you! :)
The cut scene is extremely amazing. I hope no one skips it!
Not the most interesting gameplay, but it works and is fun :)
I like how the corncobs shoots corn at you!
It's cool that you had time to add some polished features (generation, upgrades, a map, etc) - the extra time you spent on them significantly improves the game.
Nice game!
Very cool little game! I really love how it grows. And pretty much the same as the other comments said - needs replayability ;)
It's a stylish, well-polished game! I wish I had a friend to play with - I'm sure it would be hilarious. Good job!
Wow, very nice! Visually well-designed, and definitely fun to play.
The gameplay isn't too new and the asteroids can appear unfairly and the wall collision isn't generous. But otherwise, gotta love a snake-like game! <3
The sounds were cool, and the wiggly paint art reminds me of Dittomat's style. :D
