LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

FINGERSLINGER by Mnemusyne 2015-04-21T17:10:00

Wow... I've never given all perfect before. But this game was really fun! It was so simple and at first I didn't get it. But after a few tries I kinda got the point. Playing against the computer was fun. When I thought I had him figured out he would surprise me. Great job! I'm going to have to try playing this IRL. Its like rock-paper-scissors but more intriguing.

RoboFight by Sri Harsha Chilakapati 2015-04-21T16:18:00

I'm on a MacBooPro, OSX (10.9.5), Intel i7. The jar did not run when I double clicked, right click -> open, or ran from console with java -jar RoboFight.jar.

RandomSpell by animanegra 2015-04-21T15:26:00

The Good:
- this was a pretty fun little game (even though I was horrible at it)
- I liked the idea of getting a random spell when you hit the attack button
- the platform physics were not too bad

The Bad:
- the idea of having a random spell was good, but the fact that I could see the next spell made it so that if I didn't have the spell I wanted I could just shoot spells until I got something I wanted, maybe removing that would make it feel truly random, but I'm not totally sure how fun that would be either
- I liked the 5 ton spell, but HATED that it spawned close enough to me to kill me unless I immediately ran backwards. It made it impossible for me to use.
- the menu was really hard to navigate because it was picking up my key-down event on every update, instead of just catching the initial key-down event, so I had to very quickly click and release the arrow keys to actually get to the menu option I wanted, also, it was hard to tell which option was selected

The Ugly:
- the game started in probably it's lowest resolution so it was just a tiny box in the top left corner of my screen, about the size of a postage stamp. Thankfully you had a resolution option, but see "The Bad" for comments on that.

Good job! GO LD32!

Venari by Lissar 2015-04-21T15:48:00

The Good:
- the art was really unique and I really liked how it all fit together (the demon dog was a little out of place)
- I liked the sound effects and the atmosphere it created

The Bad:
- I almost rage quit from getting lost, the scenes were cool with the art, but trying to play an art piece can really suck sometimes without proper game elements
- I didn't quite understand the story, but I'm guessing its because I got lost so frequently and could only find the village by pure luck (and I never figured out how to pick up the burnt book)

The Ugly:
- nothing really, the app ran just fine on my MacBookPro

Good job! GO LD32!

Fathom by Joe Williamson 2015-04-21T01:56:00

Crazy for being done in 3 days! Game looked great, sounded great, and played great. One thing thing I found is that you can totally skip part of the game if you jump just right in the upper right side of the level.

Looking forward to see if this game keeps going after this.

Nuclear Autumn by phi6 2015-04-22T05:18:00

Is a pretty fun little platformer! I, too, like the scripted camera to show various events and emphasis. Music and sounds fit well, and the art has a good look to it that played well into your theme.

I got to the potassium part but on my way back from that, I fell through the level and couldn't get out.

Cooper 32 vs. Doctor Dynamo by rnlf 2015-04-21T16:44:00

The Good:
- loved the game!
- collisions were really good
- movement was really good
- the story was good, i liked the way the text came up, and I just want to thank you for not making a sound effect for each letter, and the intro at the beginning made me laugh
- speaking of sound, the music and sound effects were perfect
- it was challenging but not impossible, great balance
- great job on all the different elements: guards, lava, lazers, and just platform difficulty

The Bad:
- the view triangle for the guards looked pretty wonky
- it would be great to be able to skip the death "cutscene" by pressing enter or something

The Ugly:
- nothing, everything worked great on my Mac

Way to go! This is probably one of the better put-together games I've played so far. GO LD32!

SLICK LICKER by KodingNights 2015-04-21T16:10:00

The Good:
- it was totally playable on mac
- the idea of a tongue as your weapon was unique
- you had some cool graphic effects
- seemed like there were quite a few levels

The Bad:
- after about a min or two of listening to the music I turned my speakers off, that was very annoying...
- movement was pretty chunky and hard to use
- the tongue attack wasn't very useful, I had a better chance at hitting enemies if I just let the tongue hang and then jump over them
- it just wasn't very entertaining, the movement and attacking didn't feel good and there was no real consequence to getting hit by enemies
- there was just waaay too much going on to be able to understand what was going on

The Ugly:
- nothing, everything worked as advertised

Good job! GO LD32!

The War Dog by Xinelu 2015-04-21T21:51:00

This one had an interesting way of getting the story across. The story was interesting. But the gameplay was really lacking.

Deadly rain by Sublustris 2015-04-21T22:09:00

This was pretty good. I liked the idea of you being in the middle of some conflict and trying to get out alive. I didn't interpret this that the soldiers are shooting at the girl. I saw it as the soldiers are shooting at the helicopter and the helicopter is shooting at the soldiers. The girl just happens to be a citizen in this place where people are fighting each other. Neat idea.

Food Fight APOCALYPSE by dusakus 2015-04-21T14:54:00

The Good:
- The graphics were good looking and mostly all fit together
- I'm a programmer, so I'm impressed by your sloping platforms
- I laughed at the animation and sound of just holding down Z with the chicken leg equipped
- The fact that you had different enemies with different skills
- The fact that there was a boss battle at all

The Bad:
- The music was pretty repetitive
- There was no indication that I was actually hitting the enemies when I tried to use the chicken leg and the reach seemed so small that I was constantly dying trying to kill stuff, so I just switched to the carrot, which was also hard to use
- I was able to just cheese the entire game up until the boss by just running and jumping past everything
- Having to restart from the beginning of the game made it hard to keep playing after dying a few times

The Ugly:
- The OS/X application didn't work on my MacBookPro (but the jar version did, so no big consequence)
- Collisions needed some work, but nothing that I haven't had problems with myself

Nice job though! GO LD32!

An Alien Sniper by PaulJs 2015-04-21T22:00:00

The gameplay was pretty limited. And I'm not sure that it really had much to do with the theme. I like sniper games. So there's that at least...

MagDef by jhell 2015-04-20T16:53:00

A very cool idea! This game fits the theme really well. Game is fun -- though I did hit a 'critical mass' of population where you can no longer lose due to rampant population growth (seems to happen somewhere before 1000k, and continued for a bit till my screen now says "Infinityk". Gave me a good chuckle though).

Well done though, it plays smooth and looks great doing it.

Curfew by Backlund 2015-04-21T21:55:00

It was kind of a cool environment. But that was about the only interesting thing about this game. Maybe more gameplay would have made it better. Or bigger areas to explore.

Banana Cream Virus by teamluma 2015-04-21T15:04:00

The Good:
- liked the theme and graphics fit together well
- integration with mac os was pretty good
- the music was pretty good
- sound effects were appropriate
- the little intro setup was entertaining

The Bad:
- I immediately got pushed out of the level into the green zone when a mob pinned me against a wall
- right clicking on Mac sucks when all you have is a mouse pad and a magic mouse, maybe an alternative button for shooting pies would help

Good job! GO LD32!

Deadly Roads by pythong 2015-04-21T16:21:00

Wasn't able to play it, I'm on a MacBookPro OSX, ran using Firefox. Just a white screen.

A nice Day in the Park by Polyganz 2015-04-21T16:48:00

I'm on a Mac, and I don't want to have to download a separate program to unpack the .rar file. Could you release the game for Mac as a .zip?

LD33 — You are the Monster

Dragon's Horde by Connors 2015-08-26T17:24:00

I liked the breathing dragon. That was cool how you took such simple style and made it tell so much about what characters were doing.

Skeleton Gardens by nka 2015-08-26T16:19:00

Art is awesome. I personally would have liked the attack buttons mapped to different keys as I found myself wanting 3 more fingers on my left hand. Great game though. This would be a fun one to develop further.

Monster Yum Yum by cjacobwade 2015-08-26T04:51:00

That face :D. Art is very entertaining. Too bad we don't have extra stars for humor and theme.

Monsters Rescue by palsina 2015-08-26T17:06:00

Cute little game. Got hung up on the environment quite a bit though.

Sound Control by cxsquared 2015-08-26T17:10:00

I just danced everyone to death every time. Other than the couple times one stickman would punch another to death. Not really sure how it all works. Interesting idea though.

There's Plenty of Fish in the Sea by kaype 2015-08-26T04:32:00

The art is simple, but consistent. I'm always a fan of the retro looking stuff. Kudos to the old 'inflated' CRT look, I totally dig it. Music is good and gameplay fits well. The timelapse was cool to watch, too!

Bloblivion by jackrugile 2015-09-03T05:53:00

I didn't really feel the theme at all with this game, but it was polished which I respect.

Creature Power by Empyrealhell 2015-08-27T05:58:00

Audio was definitely entertaining. Controls were difficult, but that's why it was fun. Managed to break 30k, but couldn't do any better than that once I fell onto the floor.

Also, thanks for playing Scabs! You found a bug we haven't been able to identify -- but where it crashed on you, that was the end of the game. So you didn't miss anything!

Sucker Punch by Shaw 2015-08-27T03:57:00

Very funny. I laughed a lot and thought the sound effects really added to how hectic the game was. Solid game!

Notes: I was having trouble getting the menu system to work after the game had ended. There was no confirmation that my high score was posted (that or it just didn't work for some reason).

Writhe: The Thing from the Omega Sector by DragonXVI 2015-08-27T04:00:00

Really liked it, all around awesome game.

Crop Circles 2015 by Keith Stellyes 2015-08-27T02:08:00

Controls seemed to sometimes be unresponsive, not sure why, but occasionally I wouldn't be able to move right.

Cool idea, overall. Reminds me of the Crazy Cutter game from Mario Party, except much more difficult. I like the feel of the momentum.

Midnight Bootleg by Pastry 2015-08-27T02:15:00

I spent way more time than I should have playing around with search results haha. This was a very unexpected entry. Never been so engaged use a computer in a computer. Nice!

Pirate RPG by Ershany 2015-08-27T04:27:00

Felt nice to play, but there was no feedback on if my attacks were doing any damage! I spent about 3 minutes just running in circles shooting at that demon boss in the cave before finally giving up. I don't think I was ever doing damage to him, but I honestly couldn't tell.

KAIJU TYCOON by NoWandStudios 2015-08-26T16:08:00

I love the artwork. Especially the LD33 nod on the notes :). Also Cthulhu bobble head is a nice touch.

Eye In The Sky by djfariel 2015-08-26T15:12:00

Nice! That was a great throwback to Rampage. I got stuck though when I jumped onto a building and used my laser to destroy it.

Scabs by bitdecaygames 2015-08-26T05:57:00

We've uploaded a fixed version of the jar for any users that are getting stuck at a black screen after hitting Play.

No Country for Troll Men by aberdeenphoenix 2015-08-26T15:05:00

I like the game progression of difficulty. And the title made me laugh.

Ankabot by Cloudeyes 2015-08-26T04:47:00

A spider that did that would scare the sh*t out of me. Thanks for the nightmares. Art is cool -- with the music it's almost a 'horror zen' kind of experience.

-=SPACE RAM=- by nicksantan 2015-08-27T04:19:00

Those ships are like snipers... They aced me from way off screen more than once. But nice visuals! Looks really clean.

Run Ogre, Run! by CrazyMinnowStudio 2015-08-26T15:09:00

I like the walking animation. And the bouncing boulders made me laugh. Good job!

HAIL - Humans Are Ill Lived by RiverAndRun 2015-08-26T17:00:00

That was fun! I really liked the feel of swinging the sword. The jumping and movement felt a little too fast and loose for me.

Glauron by Frozen Fractal 2015-08-26T16:46:00

That is an awesome game! I really like your comment about focusing on making a FUN game before you make a good looking game. I feel like I've fallen into that pit more than a few times. Great job!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Agent Hooker by Phoenix849 2015-12-15T20:44:00

Extremely well done. I quite like the concept which is quite original given the theme. Theres a lot of redundancy out there right now but this was a nice change.

Acrodog by dvdfu 2015-12-16T20:07:00

That was a really fun little game! Thank you!

Flower Power by nosfer 2015-12-16T16:05:00

Concrete Jungle by Miltage 2015-12-18T06:12:00

Now that's something you don't see every day. Nice work -- a very zen experience.

Harvest by MarekkPie 2015-12-21T16:33:00

Arg, Im terrible at typing games (thats why Im the artist) :).
Great educational game though.

DESEEDER by Zanzlanz 2015-12-16T20:10:00

The diagonal pixel style was definitely unique. Great game! Thanks!

ORB LORDS by TravisChen 2015-12-22T07:08:00

Can't get more classic 'two button control' than pinball. Nice presentation! Art was really cool and cohesive. Audio fit perfectly. Nice work!

Only complaint is that sometimes the pinball would bounce off things / stick to things in ways I wasn't expecting -- but it didn't take away from the experience.

Octov by Taldius 2015-12-23T03:25:00

Nice take on two buttons. The combat was surprisingly fun once I got the hang of it. Art was really cool, to boot!

Blink by cacciatc 2015-12-16T04:24:00

Legit Gameboy graphics, nice!

Bring joy to the world... with balloons! by cptalbertwesker 2015-12-17T04:18:00

Call me crazy, but I wanted a button to pop the balloon with. :) Could use some more of a "game" feel to it, but if this is a first attempt then its not bad. Its good to get something that "works" but its also fun to flex and challenge your abilities. See you in LD35

Evilator by Dyn 2015-12-16T04:19:00

Love the old school art style. Takes me back to the original kings quest series.

PINGROW by junt74 2015-12-15T20:28:00

hah very cool. I think the score multiplier for being fully grown may be too high, but got a pretty nice score because of it :)

Flame Keepers by John Drury 2015-12-15T21:58:00

you win! :) I cant believe the first time I died when I was less than 100 away from completing the 1k pot.

Void by bakudas 2015-12-16T19:17:00

Great feel/mood. Controls were a little difficult though, I continually had to re-drag my mouse to get the guy to move. Great job!

Hearty's Quest by LMT 2015-12-16T15:45:00

Cute little puzzler. It progressed nicely and felt good overall.

Longbeard by Joe Williamson 2015-12-17T05:39:00

It ended right as I was really getting engaged in the mechanic. I would be very interested inf seeing what you can do with this idea if you had the time to expand the game.

Only part that made me sad (and it's a minor point) was not having any sound when I collected the coins.

Continuous rebind by lkpridgeon 2015-12-17T04:14:00

took me some time to figure out that I had to select the 2 options I wanted, and I wasnt sure the purpose of the TAB button in game. But not a bad game for building those early programming skills. Keep it up. Hope to see you aim higher for LD35

Cornucopia by LadySith 2015-12-17T04:05:00

I wasnt able to restart a new game after finishing, it kept taking me to the results screen from my first round. Also I sat at the main screen with the gamelab logo listening to lion sleeps tonight because I thought it was loading or something :) finally clicked and got the main menu.

Major Tom by OberynMartell 2015-12-29T01:12:00

Such mood... The audio fits this game perfectly. Only thing I wish it had was a little more variety in the game play (different satellite altitudes, any other mechanics to play around how the signal reflects)

But well done, it's clean, it's entertaining, it's relaxing.

Cipolletti by psychonull 2015-12-15T18:22:00

took me a couple of tries to get the hang of but good use of 2 buttons. A bit more ability to speed up dialog would have been nice.

Reap by managore 2015-12-17T03:46:00

You hooked me into your style with Birdsong -- so I made sure to find your entry this jam. You definitely have magic fingers with being able to make something this clean and polished in 2 days... I am definitely jealous of your map generation.

I have played it enough to rate it, but not enough to be done with it. I'll def be playing this one more this week. Great job!

GROW by Japes 2015-12-22T05:58:00

I like the gameplay, it's very zen. Two pieces I would have loved to see are: some sort of indication of how much things cost (without knowing I'm just clicking around hoping I can do things), and for the water / light to gen while the window loses focus. I understand why I don't get gen once the window loses focus, but I see this game being more like a bonsai tree than something to dedicate my attention to. I actually like having this as something I can come to in play sessions of a couple minutes at a time.

Overall, though, a cool idea and pretty well done.

Christmas Eve Late Delivery Service by ajopart 2015-12-16T19:43:00

Nice job! Great humor!

Lost Elochka by SMASH BASH 2015-12-17T04:55:00

Not a bad little game here. I feel my inner star :)

Odd Binary Run by Nattack 2015-12-17T04:44:00

I found myself frustrated as it seemed that it wouldnt jump some of the times. I did get to the 2nd stage anyways. Also music probably shouldn't restart every time I die. aside from that not a bad first LD entry.

Polaris by wongcito 2015-12-16T19:18:00

Loved the graphics! Nice job!

Digicross by 5you 2015-12-21T16:39:00

Im not sure I ever fully figured out how to understand out what I was working toward, just moved in the direction of the shadows until something started turning yellow. At first I thought I was playing a snake clone.

spin-circle by Modoc73 2015-12-21T16:28:00

Man, this is one of those games that just digs at you to do better the next time. Simple enough that its frustrating when you cant to better. Well done.

SnowRoll by StabAlarash 2015-12-16T19:10:00

Enjoyable to play. Good job!

Gjallarhorn by NoWandStudios 2015-12-16T16:19:00

Great game given the 2 button theme. I like how the camera zoomed out to make managing multiple enemies a bit more interesting. Good work all around.

Flower Power by RikkyPikki 2015-12-15T18:29:00

damn helicopters!

Dendrite by bitdecaygames 2015-12-21T02:19:00

2 button metroidvania by JaJ 2015-12-15T02:36:00

Nice gameboy look for sure and good use of 2 buttons for controls.

Magic Lumberjack by The Mad Strauss 2015-12-16T20:30:00

Man, that was tough. Great visual style though.

Battle For Bedroom by monetai 2015-12-16T20:36:00

I loved the style! Great job!

NanoBit by Weeping Rupee 2015-12-17T05:34:00

An excellent use of the theme to play on the platformer genre.

Star Feast by propter_ludus 2015-12-16T16:12:00

nice little game there. The look on its face when I run into something is priceless.

The Lonely Slime by tukisboolukis 2015-12-21T16:24:00

I think this could benefit from managing the size of the sprites so that they feel like they are from the same game. That said, it works in the end and is not bad.

1minuteBaby by jeroenwimmers 2015-12-21T00:31:00

Very interesting take on the theme. The atmosphere was well-built and had a cool, almost uneasy feeling to it.

Sentient Sewage by blakeohare 2015-12-21T01:14:00

Easy I found to be a little boring, but once I got into medium and hard it became much more engaging. Sometimes the physics are a little strange for how the pellets bounce off of you, but it doesn't take away from the experience. Cool game!

TRONZO by Tykev 2015-12-15T21:20:00

Good game. getting used to how to manipulate the shape took some getting used to but not painful by any means. Nice work.

Zombie Avoid by Dovyski 2015-12-15T21:08:00

Im a nut for zombies so I loved the concept for sure. Some randomization in the sounds would have been a good touch as I found myself muting. Fun trial and error game for sure though.

LD36 — Ancient Technology

Reinvent the Wheel by Linus123xbb 2016-09-06T06:19:00

Well now... I played that for longer than I thought I was going to. Gameplay is simple, but being able to build your own cart and fight for high scores gives it a surprising amount of replay value.

I played with different wheel sizes/combinations and was surprised how much they actually affect how the kart moves. Nice work!

cognizance by managore 2016-09-02T05:32:00

This definitely feels like your game. Very clean. This game clearly knows what it's trying to do both visually and mechanically.

Only complaint I have is it feels that there could be a few more checkpoints in between certain parts. I feel like I've proven I can overcome certain obstacles, and die to something unrelated after I've completed an area -- and I have to do it again. Minor complaint, though

SMASH BASH: Sukhov vs Zombies by SMASH BASH 2016-09-06T00:22:00

The art pulled me in immediately. All the assets are very well done (though the proportions are a little off -- the bicycle is humongous compared to the player). Gameplay was solid and kept me enjoying it till the end.

I had the same problem some of the others did where controls would randomly get stuck, both movement and shooting. It might have been due to accidentally clicking and dragging while shooting.

Overall, a solid game that is one of the more entertaining ones I've played so far.

Steam Heart by SinclairStrange 2016-08-31T03:28:00

Well now... I'm jelly. This game is very good. Definitely saw the Gunstar Heroes influence before reading the description. What did you use to make everything? I didn't see it in the description?

Only complaint (gotta give some sort of constructive criticism for this to be a useful comment) is that the player has a little too much HP. But that's a very minor issue with how much other stuff is going on this game. Bosses are sweet!

Even if there isn't much in the way of gameplay -- the art is really cool. I'd be curious to see what you had planned for sounds.

Simple and entertaining. Digging the mini-map (I have yet to actually make a working one in any game I've done)

Enjoyed the ending as it was fairly unexpected.

Only complaint is that I wasn't able to appreciate the art as much as it deserved. The down-scaling hurt a lot of the clarity of the art (mostly when playing non-fullscreen). That said, I love the art. It reminds me of a much better drawn version of stuff that I used to draw when I was bored in class. I was always a fan of cavemen.
