Art is absolutely amazing! Some improvements to be made - such as background parallax as it seemed to "stick" to the player position :) Final boss art... well.. wow!

Art is absolutely amazing! Some improvements to be made - such as background parallax as it seemed to "stick" to the player position :) Final boss art... well.. wow!
This game is amazing, I love it so much. Going to play it some more after I've written this review. Agree with everyone here - the art is amazing, but there is so much more potential here, consider adding couch multiplayer for that Towerfall/Samurai Gunn experience. I can see this going far! You only get one gun!
Really good! I like that you have to get the harpoon back, as it makes the game a lot harder especially if you miss. Great use of the theme. Art is fantastic, but lacking animation, I think if you simplified the art and focus more on animation and feel, you'd get a better result. Still - I had lots of fun playing it, and nice variety of enemies. Good job!
Love the movement, feels like you are actually inside a mech. Glad you didn't implement strafe as that would have ruined the illusion.
WTF. How did you even come up with this idea.. sheep, portals.... rifle! Amazing art, fantastic entry, love it!
Saw this game after searching for other space games (I made one too!). Great graphics and atmosphere.
To fix the green marker bug, I assume you are using worldtoscreenpoint? Hide the marker if the screenpoint.z <= 0 (behind you)
Anyway, great concept but I was initially confused about the controls. A fixed camera would have been more ideal I think!
Wow... didn't expect that. The 2nd text game I've played this LD. Great font, great story! A bit depressing.... but that's a good thing!
Level 6 was very hard indeed! Perfect kind of game for a jam really, great mechanics, good level of polish. Having to dodge your own bullet is a lovely twist. Fantastic job!
Love it. Nice and simple, but really tense and effective bomb defusing game. And it made me laugh, your explosion sound hahaha! Great job!
Careful about the lighting, you need a very dim directional light (coming from windows for example) and not just low ambient lighting, that's why your sofas look really flat.
Anyway, great first attempt in Unity, keep going :)
Amazing graphics, awesome immersion even without sound and music. And an almost scary prospect too, talking to the aliens and not knowing whether you are saying the right things or not! :D I found it really difficult to work out the language though, but maybe it is just me - don't really understand the whole interrogation/affirmation thing! Never ever played a game like this before!
Fantastic little gem here! Once I became familiar with all the weapon types, there was a bit more strategy to choosing. Nice level of polish too. Well done!
Great physics on this simple platformer. Really good idea that you used velocity of the rock to determine damage. Art and colours are very nice also, and breaking pixels when they die is a fun touch! Overall great job for your second LD entry!
Interesting idea, time fracturing. Was this inspired by 300 mechanics? Would be nice to see clearly who actually did kill you!
Really good potential for a space based exploration game! You should take a look at the Indie game A.N.N.E. as well for inspiration, platformer + shmup hybrid :)Excellent spriting...
I love this game. Companion cube eh! Gravity is a bit floating but other than that great mechanics and feels very solid. This has potential to be a great game. Good work!
This is amazing! Love the glitchs, the art, music, sound, everything. One of my favs this LD
I've mentioned this in my top 6 games on LD28 so far:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2013/12/17/my-top-six-ld28-games-so-far/
Absolutely brilliant! This is one of those rare games on LD that just feels and plays right, control-wise. Also I learnt something new on the first go after being eaten by the yellow creature, love games that do that! Best one I've played and rated as of yet.
This game is awesome! The screenshots don't really do it justice, because the art direction is fantastic in motion. Gravity slingshot games are often boring but this is a fresh new twist!
I love the concept and graphics, but for me this was hard to play on my laptop's touchpad. I'll try with a mouse tomo :)
This is so good! Such a huge amount of depth for a LD entry.
- Stock market
- Ship upgrades
- Mining
- Pirates
- Bounty hunters
- Even a planet landing mechanic!
Sounds like the feature list for a AAA game. How the hell did you do this in 48 hrs?
I stumbled upon this game while searching for other space games since I made one too, and I realised you really thought about the gameplay here!
Can't praise this enough!
I've mentioned this in my top 6 games on LD28 so far:
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2013/12/17/my-top-six-ld28-games-so-far/
Pretty creepy! But not 100% how to beat this!
Love the concept and graphics. Reminds me of a simpler more accessible GSB. One day I want to make a 4X game with battles like this. Good job!
Once I figured out that the shapes can be made from a combination of small squares, and that I can do it in any order the game really opened up.
I completed level 10! Fantastic level of polish, simple but effective sound, lovely art direction but above all really intelligent and elegant puzzle design, a real winner and I've never seen anything like it.
Bravo!
To start off, it is difficult to download as you're using Google Drive. I'd recommend Dropbox sharing if possible!
Anyway, with that out of the way...
Oh my goodness those graphics are amazing! As a massive fan of low poly I love it, mainly awesome colours :)
A bit of a non-game at the moment, but I do understand WIP.
Looking forward to what you do with it!
Awesome, this game is so similar to mine! Low poly graphics, spin out of control when you hit asteroids, love it! And scary too....
Doesn't scale well on a laptop monitor (1366x768) but other than that great game and amazing art. Inspired by Papers, Please? ;)
Haha never played a game where the bullets bounce like this before! And getting the zombies to chase you into the bullet is a great concept. Only criticism is the font, hard to read. Apart from that, really good fun, looks great!
Game mechanic is solid and fun. But I thought I was going to die when hitting the walls. Instead you carry on - so that was a bit underwhelming. Then again, I really wanted this game to be tough tough tough like Canabalt :) Overall, warping is a great concept and I think you could pursue this idea further!
Amazing beats, I love it. Good job not putting perma death into this - I like the exploration aspect!
Great take on the theme! Pretty hard as well. The only thing I didn't like was the very noisy sounds, they hurt my ears a bit! Otherwise I enjoyed the game :)
Balance between shield, mining and shooting/moving is great as I had to quickly decide what to do, makes for a difficult game which I like! But I think it is let down a little by the controls, a twin stick method would have worked better or absolute movement as you described :) Good job!
Interesting concept but I found more frustrating not being able to do what I wanted to do. A good potential idea to think about though!
Great "non-game" ;) Character design is amazing, looks as if superbrothers might be in 3D. Really good potential art style there!
You game is great! Really surprised at home playable this is. The tanks especially made it really challenging, and you have to multitask a lot.
Way to get around the theme, one cube becomes a million!
Great colours and music. Physics was fun too!
Amazing! So basically you made Skyrim in 72 hours ;) Some sound effects would improve this entry greatly!
Difficult to play on a laptop mouse! But everything else - wow, great art direction and jazzy sound track :)
Whoa what a crazy game! Thought it was lag at first but realised it was part of the gameplay :P
Hang on, so where's the cheerleader?!?
Never played a FPV before (first person vaccinator)
Great concept, but really difficult on the 3rd level!
Once I actually read the description, the game made a lot more sense and I figured out who the killer was! Yes, it does need work so that it becomes possible to logically and surely identify the killer based on all the clues, but that is not the point - the concept is great! Logic aside, graphics and sound were wonderful. Love this entry, well done!
Nice simple game, but it works! And quite challenging too :)
Once I figured out that the enemy was a red barrel and also that he could spawn on any floor (and I could go to the top floor!) the game really opened up. Really skillful, great job!
I love, it's really addictive and showing the previous attempts is vital. Really difficult to figure out the optimal path in order to get as many points as possible!
Rated! Addictive game, but I think it could be improved further by showing your previous attempt's power (pull back) as well as trajectory.
I killed 49 ships. Love typing so this game was right up there for me. Just like typing of the dead :)
Really great use of the theme. I love the graphics, controls, and even music. Totally shocked when the worm appeared as well!
Absolutely terrifying. I loved it!
One bug, you can run through thin walls by running. Other than that - awesome :)
There appears to be 50% of people who hate my controls, and 50% who love spinning out of control. I guess without this it would just be another shooting game, I really wanted to make it really hard to target the mothership/station at the end. Based on the feedback though, I'm not sure if I totally succeeded there!
I absolutely love this! Simple instructions, great controls, but yes, was disappointed when it ended. More!
Great physics, and I love the colours and minimalist art. What a game jam game should be :)
Haha this is hilarious. Something everyone secretly (or not so secretly) wants to do. The flavour text adds to the experience!
Simple and effective twin stick shooter. Nothing fancy, but the level of polish makes this game stand out. Nice touch making the monsters go through scenery but you can't, adds a bit more difficulty to the game. Great job!
First Twine game I've ever played. I loved it. One word:
Gripping.
Awesome pixel art!
Nice reversal :P Double jump!
Loving the low poly terrain, definitely a graphic style I'm into. Music is understated and great. I did get stuck on the rocks a lot though!
Great audio direction! And the starfield background adds a level of polish too. I really like this game!
Great graphics and particle effects. Gameplay needs to be more fun, can be improved with things like chaining(combos), upgrades etc... But overall good polished result!
Wow! You can steer the bullet in cinematic slow motion! That's a brilliant concept and well executed aesthetic wise. I love this game!
Great graphics and voice recorded sounds! Playability wise, I found the gravity to be rather unforgiving, which made the game quite difficult, so I would have preferred looser jumping! I would recommend implementing Sonic Physics (http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Physics_Guide) and getting a feel on how to implement a really good platforming engine, it certainly helped me! Overall, good job in the time alloted :)
Simple, elegant and effective concept. Nice colours too! I wonder how you could build on this idea a little more...
Great game, surprisingly accessible for a ASCII roguelike thing. Interface was clean and simple, controls were easy to understand. Very impressed with your line of sight implementation. This has potential to be a great roguelike.
Collision is slightly off sometimes, but regardless a really fun game - love the music, love the text, love the humor. Well done :)
Pretty hard! But I found the angle slightly off!
Wow, didn't expect such nice graphics especially the cityscape. Great gameplay, well done :)
Tutorial was blank? I found this very difficult to understand!
Once I managed to get the match lit (which did take a while) the rest was easy, set fire to everything! A bit of a non-game, but I was very impressed with the graphics, it's a style you should definitely stick with.
Beautiful!
And strangely hopeful although I'm not sure why!
You only get one life, but you can touch and affect others who in turn will do the same.
Love it, fantastic art, colours and animation. Great playability as well, really responsive and can get quite challenging. Great job!
No second player for me but I can still rate the game on its merits. Really good solid platforming engine you built here, collisions are great, framerate is smooth, feels responsive, graphics are actually really great. One thing which could be improved, would be nice to jump higher if you hold down the jump button (or jump less if you're just tapping it). I recommend looking at the Sonic Physics articles (http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Physics_Guide) for a really good platforming implementation - certainly helped me!
Overall, good job :)
Excellent environment! Pretty for a tech demo, looking forward to what you might do with it gameplay wise.
Surprisingly hypnotic! Also the colours really stand out in this one :)
This game is amazing! It makes me cry how the art direction is so lush :)
Agree with everyone here about the lag - which is a little annoying! But I can see without it, it would be a lovely addictive little game!
Just wanted to say, the title screen art caught my eye. Not trying this as it is multiplayer only (so I didn't rate it either) but thought I'd leave this message here to compliment the artist. :)
This is amazing. Best LD game I've played/rated as of yet. In many ways this is a perfect platform game without any flaws. The save points were just right, not too easy, not too hard. Progressing by collecting skills is a great tutorial. Level design really gave me the feeling of wonder and exploration, music was suitably creepy. Love that you used the Mario level but made it black, felt like I was trapped in some kind of evil alternate Mario universe. When I dropped down I thought "oh it's just repeating the same level" but then I realised the spikes were there. When the game ended I was disappointed... I wanted more!
Overall, fantastic entry, and was really amazed as it felt like you had a large team of playtesters working for months to get the gameplay this tight. Good job!
The only game so far to make me laugh - those ridiculous voices haha!
Extremely polished. Great gameplay (what my LD game should have been). Great job :)
The graphics are what make this. Absolutely fantastic low poly modelling. Great work!
The audio is the best bit about this game, great result! Check GetButtonDown for jump instead of button state each frame because if you hold down the jump button it stomps forever.
I love it! Not only literal interpretation but amazing playability, difficulty curve, controls and graphics. I loved how insane the ship design got each time you are upgraded.
Wow, so much strategy with only one move. I guess its the number of gifts and people in your party that makes the interesting choices. Awesome gameboy vibe. Feels very authentic. Overall - perfect!
Interesting idea, but found the minimap too small to see what was going on! Definitely potential for a great game here though!
Really difficult to judge, but I love the balance between waiting and shooting. I stumbled upon your game when trying to find similar games to mine, good job! Love the graphics :)
Unfortunately really easy to complete, but that is not the point, the level design can always be improved later. The game mechanic itself is a great idea, and the art style is absolutely fantastic. I really enjoyed this entry, thumbs up!
Man this is so hard! Beat 1 boss but keep coming back for more :)
I... think I beat it! This game is pitch perfect, no flaws.
Simple but effective twin stick shooter, nice level of polish, great work!
Was the double jump intentional? Anyway great striking graphics, except for the player which seemed to be scaled up and blurry. Also a bit too easy, I got to the end without any problems, however the concept and mechanics are good and there's a real potential for a difficult game here!
So amazing! Click to farm! But damn those weeds!
Absolutely amazing, I can't believe you managed to get this amount of polish into a LD48. Really satisfying to get a hit, and the slow motion "matrix" kill move at the end is inspired. The only thing I can think of is... does the stance actually make any difference? Awesome job :)
Btw - inspired by Sumotori Dreams? If not, play it, its so funny!
I love dungeon crawler games so this was right up my street. Nice responsive controls, great graphics, love it! Have you played Delver?
Not entirely sure what was the goal for the game, I found what I think is the sun and a star or something next to it, tried to cover it in the blocks but nothing! Still - very cool creation and destruction mechanic and good platform physics! A variable jump height would have been nice but minor issue! Nice mood, definitely had fun, just wish I knew what to do!
Amazing pixel art and animation, really inspiring work!
I love these graphics, very impressive pixel art. The platforming physics were fairly good, although I think the ground friction was way too low. Jump charging was an interesting mechanic - I enjoyed flinging myself all over the shop!
Yeah so basically everything about this game is amazing! Thought the physics were quite floaty at first but then I realised it's on another planet and the ores weigh you down - never seen a burden mechanic on a platformer before! Anyway really enjoyed it so far and I'll keeping this on my computer as I want to finish the whole thing later.
By the way, your entry really interested me as I also created a platformer for this LD, although perhaps so quite so polished as yours. It's called Nuclear Autumn and I hope you'll have a little try of it as well :)
Hey, I liked this entry so much I included the game as part of my Top 10 Platformers of Ludum Dare 32:
http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/27/my-top-10-platformer-games-of-ludum-dare-32/
Love it! As someone who also made a platformer/Metroidvania I was on the lookout for others and your pixel art grabbed my attention. Shield mechanic was really fun, game was pretty difficult though - not managed to beat it as of yet! Overall, top notch :)
This is ridiculous, one second I thought I had questioned everyone, step into a room and boom about 200 more mobs to search through! Haha :P
Love the graphics and atmosphere, pretty creepy stuff. The level was much bigger than I first imagined. I think I got the first perp - is there anything that tells you you were successful?
Either way really enjoyed this mate! Top marks from me :)
Absolutely amazing but way too short (this is a compliment asking for more!) The world switching mechanic on jumping is something new and so a bit tricky to master but very enjoyable to play. Love the graphics and animation also - nothing bad to say about this game, top marks!
I also created a platformer/Metroidvania, really glad to stumble on yours as it's refreshing to see a new concept like this.
Ahhh man the concept is brilliant - this needs to be a full platformer type thing using the same sword and flying mechanic. I made a Metroidvania for my LD entry and I can imagine your core mechanic to work very well in an open-world setting.
Anyway, with what you have here, graphics, animation, sound and music are top notch!
Wow, the pixel art is amazing, so inspiring. Good job!
Love it, audio, graphics, animation, gameplay everything. You basically created Nuclear Throne mechanics in 72 hours but with a nice twist. I wish you'd focused more on the shooting aspect of it, the transformation is much too short and I felt the game was the most fun in that mode. Melee was rather tedious whereas the shooting was totally badass. That said, it's just balancing issues and really the potential is fantastic here. Great job!
Hey man, love the puzzles in this game - properly mind bending. I'm really bad at puzzle design so pretty impressed with this! Presentation and audio are nice. Like others have said, a few prompts and option to zoom wouldn't be a bad thing!
I fail at beat detection. Still - was only going to play platformers but this looked excellent and I love hacking themes. Great job, top marks!
I also made a Metroidvania, although not as innovative as yours. I was on the lookout to play similar games to compare and study and I am glad I found yours! Physics feels just right, graphics are lovely and the bird/bread mechanic is really innovative.
That said, it was very difficult and I didn't manage to get to the end boss - but I enjoyed watching your walkthrough video nonetheless. Good job! And I would appreciate your feedback on my entry as well :)
I also created an exploration/Metroidvania platformer myself, so was on the lookout for good games to compare and study. Your art style really grabbed me, the animation and pixel art is absolutely amazing. Completed the game, I enjoyed finding the eggs and the platforming physics is absolutely spot on - even if you didn't implement downhill slope detection. Didn't see the theme come in anywhere, the attack was a nice effect though and I'm more about polish than innovation anywhere. Full marks from me!
I completed it! When I hit that gong I knew I was going to be hooked. The time slowing mechanic is a really good idea, makes the player feel especially badass. The difficulty was fairly high, but as soon as I started to be more cautious it was a lot better. Graphics and music top-notch!
Nice mechanic with the bubblegum! Although occasionally you do get stuck which is a little bit frustrating. Graphics are excellent and then general polish and feel of the game is really impressive!
I love it, and there's a twist ending! Big fan of that art style too, you did a good job using that effectively. Wish it had some audio!
Absolutely amazing. I generally love Sun Wukong as a mythological character and wish more games included him.
I also made a platformer/Metroidvania myself so I'm really happy to have stumbled on your entry. The world is huge and so many abilities and content in this game - and very difficult but satisfying too. A minor negative is that all the areas have the same graphics, so it was difficult to remember which places I'd been to. However, it was either that or sacrifice the gameplay so I think you did the right thing there :) Also loved the character art and the little flourishes of animation. I'm seriously impressed, and makes my own Metroidvania pale in comparison in terms of features. Well done!
Hey, I liked this entry so much I included the game as part of my Top 10 Platformers of Ludum Dare 32:
http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/27/my-top-10-platformer-games-of-ludum-dare-32/
Mate I can't believe you made an asynchronous multiplayer game. I had a quick go - graphics are amazing but I need some players to play with!
Fantastic game! Great models and animation, and that's a lovely looking shader you got there. I think the blood as ammo resource mechanic is really interesting, and I'd like to see more of that kind of stuff in games. Great job!
The trade off between the focus distance and size is genius - what a great mechanic! Everything is really charming about this game, top marks!
WTF did I just play. Wow. Can't praise this one enough!
I really really like this entry. That intro - really hooks you in from the very beginning. I would have liked to see a variable jump height and a couple of other mechanics to add a bit of meat to the game but otherwise this is a very polished game for the jam! Pity I was getting into it and then the game finished :P
By the way, you like trains huh? :P
Great atmosphere, I was really getting into it - seems like it was going to end hilariously well. Shame you ran out of time, hope you finish the game!
Man, you did it again. Best of the LD I've played so far! Have to say, thanks for your amazing work, your Valley Rule entry a couple of LDs ago inspired us to make our own Metroidvania/platformer this time - hope you get a chance to try it out! :)
Again, well done and please continue to create more amazing games for me to study!
Hey, I liked this entry so much I included the game as part of my Top 10 Platformers of Ludum Dare 32:
http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/27/my-top-10-platformer-games-of-ludum-dare-32/
Couldn't get the Windows post-compo version to work, complained about missing xinput.
Really enjoyed this, and your pixel art is amazing! Can you provide a downloadable build? Having made a platformer/Metroidvania myself I'd like to keep some of the games I like as studies into the genre.
Wow. I can't believe I missed this one. I also created what I think is a fairly polished platformer/Metroidvania thing but there were 3 of us doing coding, art and music in the 72 hours and yet you were able to do all of this entirely by yourself? This is maddening...
Amazing pixel art, fantastic music and I love the bullet time mechanic. Full marks on everything!
This is brilliant!
I love this game. Cool Beam FTW
Fantastic, what an inspiration
Gravity is a little floaty for my taste especially with the quite responsive running and air control. But lovely graphics, mood and atmosphere, loved the look of it!
So short I wanted more. But that's a good thing because the platforming physics are spot on, graphics are great (love the grass/vines tiles) and the music is nice and friendly. "Charming" is a great word to describe this game!
Amazing polish, had a lot of fun with this! Spammed the first few levels to win (I found being aggressive is a good strategy instead of trying to defend) but progressively got harder :P
I love the magnet/attraction mechanic, something I haven't seen before! I also made a platformer/Metroidvania thing so I'm glad I stumbled onto your entry, interesting seeing other people's different takes on the genre. The platforming and puzzles were well thought out and difficult, graphics nice and clean, overall very nice entry :)
Great graphics! Very difficult but solid and fair mechanics - which is a good thing, every death is always your fault. Would have liked to see variable jump heights but thats a minor issue. As I made a platformer/Metroidvania myself I'm glad I found your entry. Good work!
Apologies for the comment above ^ was trying to rate a different game. Your jumping mechanic works much better - your rating adjusted accordingly :)
I love this game. The mechanics are sound, and the simplicity of design is mesmerizing. I was addicted to this for quite a bit!
I love it! As I made a platformer myself I wanted to find others to compare and study, yours was definitely one of the good ones! I think a variable jump height would have helped give the player more control though, otherwise it's a bit old school in its difficulty. That said, I completed the game, the level designs were great and although the graphics were simple they still looked effective with all the colours, animations and other nice little touches. Well done!
Yep you nailed the platforming physics perfectly. Variable jump height, wall jumping, double jump, even moving platforms. Stellar work! The only thing I'd add is a slightly horizontal jump off the wall rather than straight up, it'll look and feel better I think! Love the graphics also, chunky pixels I'm a big fan of. And that audio. "SAVE"
I also created a platformer/Metroidvania thing with similar jumping mechanics, hope you have time to give mine a try too!
Really enjoyed your entry, top marks!
Brilliant, love this! Things that could make it better: diagonal shooting, less brutal gravity, remove need for the Space key. That said - it was incredibly addictive, genius concept and had me laughing all the way through. Top marks!
Hey, I liked this entry so much I included the game as part of my Top 10 Platformers of Ludum Dare 32:
http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/27/my-top-10-platformer-games-of-ludum-dare-32/
Really digging the artstyle for this game. Wow - either thats a really nice shader or you're doing something cool to make those colours really stand out!
I love the Wee Pon throwing and switching mechanics, really unique and fun to play around with! Good job on making a "mini" Metroidvania, I also created one for this LD so it's nice to see others doing it too!
Amazing, you did it again! Everything about this game is perfection and I applaud your collect of fantastic LD entries. By the way, your last entry, Bird Song really inspired me and as a result made a Metroidvania game myself for this LD. Hope you have the time to check it out!

Definitely needs some sound design to just take it beyond, even with the amount of visual polish here which is excellent. I enjoyed the game, would have liked to have seen some variable jump heights - but riding the mechas was a fun highlight.
Wow - as gamers you really take for granted the ability to jump. Take that away and you get something really difficult and interesting! Enjoyed the game, I think if you increased the ground friction to reduce sliding the platforming physics would feel absolutely perfect. Hope you manage to get the art in in the end!
Crazy unique mechanic, really interesting. I have no idea how you managed to implement cutting and pasting terrain like that! The platforming physics I felt were too rigid though, no air control and no variable height jumping, although I realise you're mainly prototyping the cut and paste stuff which probably took up most of the jam time. I'd like to see what comes of this!
The jam particles and graphics are amazing. As is the audio. A really impressive entry, you can really see the ridiculous amount of work here!
Just wanted to write another comment, been trying level 2 but totally impossible haha you're right :P The physics feel so right in this game, and I especially love that the level is one big world rather than multiple smaller levels.
I also created a platformer/Metroidvania type thing and also stuck to the principle of having one big world/level to explore. Your jam/jetpack mechanics are really inspiring and something I'd love to include more in my games. Again, just want to say great job - top marks!

http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/27/my-top-10-platformer-games-of-ludum-dare-32/
Really enjoying this game, collecting abilities is a cool mechanic. And really clever use of coloured blocks for graphics, certainly looks striking and good use of your time spent doing art!
Great graphics! Very difficult but solid and fair mechanics - which is a good thing, every death is always your fault. Would have liked to see variable jump heights but thats a minor issue. As I made a platformer/Metroidvania myself I'm glad I found your entry. Good work!
The only thing I'd say is to make your camera lerp to your position rather than instant translation, that'll help it feel less jerky...
Other than that - pretty good platforming physics and amazing charge mechanics! Such a good idea :) I also created a platformer/Metroidvania type thing, so I'm very happy I stumbled onto your entry!
Your game is crazy haha! Also thanks for playing and commenting on Nuclear Autumn, I've now fixed some of the collision/clipping bugs (seems like you did also, goddamn game development). Hope you will pick it up again as we're really proud of the ending sequence and music it would be a shame if players didn't experience it :)
Good job getting your daughter to help with the graphics - I hope she will continue this career path :)
I DAZZLED ALL THE FRAZZLED HEADS! Wasn't sure about this game until I frazzled my first head and melted my first snowman. Then the rest they say is history...
The pixel art is absolutely fucking amazing - I wish I had access to that kind of talent! The gameplay itself was not very engaging for me, but that's execution. The concept itself is really good and I'd love to play a fully fledged game about crafting guns, even if it is non-interactive like this one!
Platforming physics are a bit floaty to my taste, especially with the fixed jump height. And deaths are a bit harsh - gotta collect them all again! However, that said, loving the graphics, animation and of course... DAT SONG. COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE COLLECT THE BERRIES IN THE CAVE
OK. Didn't expect that. Hahaha!
Love it! Kinda jealous at our polished and good it looks. Think the game would have been even better if the player couldn't walk on hazards though, but maybe that would have been too hard!
The graphics are lush!
This is amazing, didn't expect much but was totally hooked in! The puzzle mechanics, mood, ambient sounds all added to the atmosphere. And I loved the ending, even if it is somewhat disturbing! I also created a platformer/Metroidvania type thing, and was really glad I stumbled onto your entry as it provided me with a lot of inspiration for study. Good job, top marks!
Thanks for your comment on Nuclear Autumn! I agree with all your points. In addition to all your suggestions, I think a way to let the player manually add markers/annotations to their map might be an interesting way to record progress as well! What do you think?
Thanks again for the reply! Well, yes I've been playing a lot of old school Metroids and Castlevanias, and while a map is handy I think there is a lot of UI work that can be done to make them even more accessible. Nuclear Autumn doesn't have a map, I was going to create one but ran out of time.
Metroidvanias essentially boil down to finding abilties to let you access certain areas, and backtracking is essential to that. So areas that you need to backtrack to, needs to be marked. Of course some secret areas should probably not be too obvious, but that's where the letting the player annotate/place markers comes in!
There are a few mods in Skyrim and other similar open world games that allow you to annotate maps, so why not in Metroidvanias?
I realise I'm preaching to the choir here, since it was your feedback that initially started this but if I were to take Nuclear Autumn further I would definitely have multiple large areas (each one similar to the level I have already created) - and a map system like what we've discussed I would definitely consider implementing.
Exciting times!
Btw. I need to think up of more interesting game mechanics/abilities rather than just jetpack/walljump/double jump etc... Something like your rift gun and transformation thing is really cool, need to start thinking outside the box! :)
Hey, I liked this entry so much I included the game as part of my Top 10 Platformers of Ludum Dare 32:
http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/27/my-top-10-platformer-games-of-ludum-dare-32/
Thank you for making this game! I really enjoyed the "sword" mechanic, didn't think it was going to add so much depth to the gameplay as it did! Platforming physics are pretty good too, variable height jumping, good input buffering, air control all there. I wish the horizontal moving platforms didn't make you bounce, although I suspect that was a technical limitation? Anyway, having made a platformer/Metroidvania type thing myself, I was on the lookout for other similar games so I could compare and study - and I'm really glad I found yours as I really love the clever mechanic! Top marks :) (And of course I played til the end)
Took me a good ten or so tries before I could beat the boss - but really enjoyed it. The controls are a little tricky at first as you can't dash before jumping but didn't take long to get used to. Been looking for good platformers to play since I made one myself, glad I stumbled onto this one. Good job!
I love the intro, the music, voiceovers, graphics everything! Such a charming little game!
Derpy ragdoll physics, what could go wrong? Potential for a really funny game here!
I would have liked to see a variable jump height and a few other mechanics, the random element is quite difficult! Nice graphics, mood is great!
The graphics, animation and the solid platforming physics make this one especially shine.
Thanks for trying out Nuclear Autumn - I hope you will pick it up again as it's really worth completing.
Anyway - NOPAEW, beautiful graphics, really inspiring. The parallax, the chunky pixels, the particles, colours everything is just perfect. Didn't have any respawn issues unlike others but I did play the downloaded version instead of the web one. Wish you had variable height jumping, feels a little bit old school. Overall, totally inspired work - well done!
That gravity is brutal - would have benefitted from a variable height jump I think. But love the graphics and gameplay, really really fun twist on the boomerang mechanic. Highscores were a good addition also - suddenly makes the whole thing more addictive!
Great platforming physics implementation, variable height jump is there, feels responsive. The scrolling background made my eyes hurt after a bit, and I think you should just do translation for screenshake instead of rotation - its a standard technique which in my opinion feels much better. Good entry though, I enjoyed playing it!
Really good, filling up the start button with water just hooked me in to the rest of the game. Platforming physics feel really good, but a variable jump height would have made it even better! Love the graphics, chunky pixels I'm a big fan of!
Fantastic swapping mechanic, and really good platformer physics. I created a platformer/Metroidvania type game as well, so it was interesting to see other games with really well implemented platforming. I enjoyed Ninja Swapper quite a bit, but I can imagine would split the crowd as the game does require a bit of level memorization in order to achieve success. Similar to 1001 spikes, it's often impossible to complete a level the first time regardless of skill. But this depends on player's personality and for me, I quite like that kind of difficulty!
Great pixel art, fun almost pacman-like mechanics, nice music but on the whole needs a bit more polish. Definitely one of the more impressive entries though, well done!
There's so much to like about this entry - the pixel art and animation is delicious and the combat feels just right, responsive, good radius, satisfying. It's a shame because you clearly ran out of time to finish adding the end boss! Rolling/dashing would have added more depth to the combat, and I felt the sound design was lacking. Still one of the more polished entries out there though, and I'd love to see future entries!
There's a lot to like about this game! I'm a big fan of your pixel art, and having made a platformer/Metroidvania myself for the LD, I'm glad I stumbled onto your game as the graphics really provide me a lot of inspiration.
The platforming physics had a really good feel, a variable height jump would have been a much welcome bonus. It's a shame you didn't have time to get audio and more levels in there as the first 2 levels were pretty easy to beat - but I can see the potential is definitely there.
Good job, top marks!
Loving the graphics and animations! Controls could do with a little fine tuning but otherwise a great stealthy jumpy game, whatever you want to call it!
Thanks for commenting on my entry! The links work now if you still want to check out Nuclear Autumn. Had a go on your game - trickier to survive than I expected! Great use of pathfinding as a mechanic.
Hey, I fixed the issues with clipping now, thanks for trying it out again! Sorry to bug you on Twitter and stuff but your reports were useful :)
Having made a platformer myself, I wanted to find others to compare and study. The lovely graphics grabbed my attention with this one - but I had some trouble getting to grips with the mechanics at first. Also the control input is a bit strange, you can't run then jump, you have to press jump first. Apart from that I enjoyed the physics and audio!
The graphics/modelling is great! Physics feel a little glitchy at times, but generally got a really nice "Monument Valley" type vibe to it. I wish the "song" was a little more melodic though haha!
Great. So not only do I have to play Tetris, and not die in normal Tetris but now I have to keep an eye out for those invaders? And then I get distracted watching the lovely missile and explosions animation after I do a 4 line Tetris, only to realise I've forgotten that the next piece has fallen. Fucker. (Full marks btw!)
That lighting effect is amazing, I have no idea how you managed to do that. I had a lot of fun playing this, although it was pretty difficult to get the timings right. Good stuff!
Love the style! Also made a platformer/Metroidvania thing, so I'm glad I found yours. Platform physics seem pretty solid, although variable jump heights would have been nice! Screaming is a fun mechanic but I wish I could see more of the screen, the darkness is a bit overkill! "THAT WAS TOO MUCH" haha. Top marks :)
Wow, love the concept it's brilliant. The actual mechanic is tricky, very tight timing but also impossible to predict the notes and patterns without seeing them slide down towards the squares (like most rhythm games). Button mashing appears to be the only way to win the game. Still - the concept is "sound" (haha) and I'd love to play a game like this with lots of musical layers! Oh and simple but really nice art style.
I'm going to rate based on the platforming physics since I think the level design is not really existent here (apart from the last 3 or so levels!). Really really well done. Not many people will notice but I think you nailed down the platforming perfectly. Variable jump heights, correct amount of ground friction and air control. Dashing mechanic works a treat. It all just feels right. All the makings of a potentially great platform engine.
I also created a platformer/Metroidvania type thing for the LD, so I was on the lookout for other platformers so I could compare and study for inspiration. Not many of them have got the physics down as well as yours, so good job!
Thanks for trying out Nuclear Autumn, I've fixed the clipping/collision bugs now so I hope you will pick it up again! Seems a shame not to be able to experience the ending as we're really proud of that :)
I had a few goes on your game - that Knight fight!
Everything is fantastic about this game - great graphics, audio and animation! Took me a while to get used to which trap to be used for each mob, I wonder if there's a more intuitive way to achieve this...
Wow. That was unexpected - a game about darkness with firefly mechanics and dynamic music? WTF. Great job!
Hey dude, you didn't say you did a LD this time! Much love, great game ;)
"So how hard could this be, just dig dow-OH SHIT"
5/5
Huge game map! Really enjoyed it, very difficult but the platforming physics was well done. I also made a Metroidvania-style platformer so was pleased to see other similar entries. The save system seems pretty well implemented which is basically unheard of in jam games and the javascript game engine seems smooth and responsive. Good job!
Really liked the block moving mechanics on this one, really unique! A variable height jump would have been a nice addition. Graphics are nice and clean, puzzles were difficult but had that sandbox feel so you could try anything without being hemmed into one inflexible solution. Good job! I also created a platformer/Metroidvania thing, so I was glad to have stumbled onto your entry to compare and study - it's been an inspiration.
Great game! Wish the balance was a little better so there could be a chance to play it for a long time, as it is you can't put them in the easier jobs at all because they automatically eat more than they make! Would LOVE to play a more finished version of this, really hope you'll keep working on it!
Love the intro!
Love the art style so much!
Love it, fantastic art style as always. Great use of the two button theme, even if the mechanics are a little frustrating. Although I can see the difficulty in creating workable levels with these controls. Would have preferred left and right jumps, didn't need the shooting mechanic really!
Overall, thought this was fantastic.
Great game! Very complete!
Also known as 'How hard is it to roll downhill while wearing four hats'
Very hard to read the instructions - yellow daylight makes them totally invisable! Very hard to see the carrots - Gave up after the fourth round of both dying. Beautiful graphics though.
Wow. Played all the way to the end. 5/5 on all categories, probably my favourite LDJAM of yours so far!
Quite tricky to click on men when they're so tiny!
Awesssommmeee. Love it. Wish it had been even longer!
Hilarious!
Such a good idea! Would have loved to play longer but the messages started repeating fairly quickly x
I like this a lot, some audio would be fantastic and a way to make the screen a bit larger! Pixel art is quality work, and gameplay has a lot of potential. I hope you continue working on this!
Top marks! Loved it!
I've included a (SPOILER ALERT) recipe book in the description above, in case you get stuck. Unfortunately we didn't have time to properly implement a recipe unlocking system. Something for the future!
Thanks @Aaranos, the bug is now fixed :)
Pretty fun game! Visuals were really cool! Pickup noises were nice.
A lot of fun! The music is hilarious, I love it.
Yeah so I have no idea how you made this is the time given. Very authentic old school feel. Graphics, feel, audio, level design, all amazing. Top marks from me!
Very meditative! You get the most points if you stay still 80% of the time and let the points come to you. I love it!
Not sure how to play!
wish it had been a bit longer! Great stuff, incredible visuals.
Very cool game concept! Would love to have seen some audio implemented in this. Your art style caught my eye, we used a very similar perspective/technique, but your pixel version works especially well. Good job!
Great simple endless runner, nice colour scheme. Web version works nicely. Some screenshake would add a bit of juice to the feel of it. Overll, good job!
Would love to see the gameplay a bit more developed, it felt very sparse, not at all the speedy dodge-em' style twitch game would would expect wall street to be! Not much to acquire, the larger companies drifting behind like slow balloons!
City was beautifully modelled.
Loved it!
