LD23 — Tiny World

Disregard All Humans by Fireblend 2012-04-28T22:05:00

Hey Fireblend, you gave me this link on IRC a while back but I finally am getting around to playing it! It's pretty nice, I liked the kind of "beat-it-all up fast!" vibe. Also, I now have had bizarre daydreams of how strange it would be for a giant lizard to be jumping and prancing all over New York...

Tinyman's Adventure by killahnukah 2012-04-28T17:18:00

Okay, I commented on this before, but it didn't show up or something... Anyway, I like the music and the level design's pretty nice too. Good work!

Petri by Tomalla 2012-04-28T21:54:00

That was pretty nice. It had this professional feel to it, like it wasn't from a game jam, but a full game.

Electron Cloud by Evilion 2012-05-12T19:08:00

"And that, kiddies, is how atoms work."
Nice game. I wish the clicking had perhaps a slightly higher radius. I do think it deserves a lot in the fun category, though.

Terraformer Breath by dansludumdare 2012-05-06T22:10:00

Dang man, that was really hard... Beat it, though. Seriously, why not just make the different buttons shoot instead of having to make the player click two buttons to shoot another bullet? (Ex. Shoot 'a', shoot 's' INSTEAD OF press 'a', Shoot 'q', press 's', shoot 'q') Just a thought.

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-04-24T02:07:00

Hey, guess what, you can't solve it at all! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-04-28T01:54:00

@Make A Game, I wouldn't say the others are having problems, I would just say you have the same criticisms. But yeah, I know, the game isn't exactly under the category of "games that do not induce the need to rage quit within the first two and a half minutes."

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-04-28T02:22:00

Oh, I see. I apologize for that, it was the one thing I knew I could fix, but I put it off for other things.

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-04-28T21:37:00

Yeah, that's me, tons of good game ideas, but they never come out like I want...

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-05-02T01:16:00

Oh, you can pull the block up in the middle, you just need to go a bit out of the way to do it, taking extra moves. That wasn't why it was unsolvable.

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-05-03T20:23:00

@Endurion: That just means you don't have a 64-bit computer. I assumed that problem wouldn't come up, I guess... If you're interested, I could make you a special copy.

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-05-03T20:24:00

I'm pretty sure that's within the rules as long as I don't change the code...

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-05-04T20:45:00

Alright, I'll port it real quick, then.

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-05-06T19:44:00

@dansludumdare: Thanks, that's probably the best comment I've gotten. Trust me, next LD, I'm definitely going to beat it first. I'll probably make something completely different other than a puzzle game, too, because honestly, it just doesn't feel like me.
Good comments on the music, too. I hadn't really even thought about that.

Empty by Tim Bumpus 2012-05-12T17:14:00

@robcozzens: I do. Pay attention to the description. "Source/Other OS's." It's not really a version, but it'll work on your machine. Also, I don't really think you have a good tone on the matter, as it is as if you are demanding I develop for Web or OSX.

@Syntaxide: That hasn't happened before. What exact error do you get?

Deity by Blake 2012-05-13T23:42:00

Haha! Wow, finally a nice little game where I can just sit back and be the evil little demon I am. 5/5, great stuff.

Tiny World Peace by jwolf 2012-04-28T21:30:00

Definitely one of the more addicting games I've played. You've also inadvertently reminded me I need to learn Java some day.

6 Degrees of Sabotage by dukope 2012-05-10T01:43:00

Not bad, man. It makes a sweet little distraction.

My Dot World by dlan 2012-04-29T20:17:00

Found a bug in the web version... Seems that when I kill one guy, the other gets infinite turns, and then I just die.

My Dot World by dlan 2012-04-29T20:20:00

Just me, perhaps?

My Dot World by dlan 2012-04-29T20:23:00

It seemed like too buggy to rate for me, as I just die every time I fight someone because of their infinite turns. I could play through it that way, but it's not worth the effort for me, sorry.

Earf Defender by cobrajs 2012-04-28T01:48:00

Nice, another love developer! This game is pretty neat, despite being another planet game. It's got some nice mechanics with the city saving thing, too. Nice job!

Tiny Religion by dagothig 2012-04-28T01:33:00

One of my favorites so far! All my god liked seemed to be bridges... and he hated craftsman.

Walker by Catman 2012-05-10T19:50:00

Some thoughts/impressions:
A- What on earth influenced you to come up with this madness? You got from tiny worlds to roadsides, man?
B- Really tiny signs? Ones that move up and down? What kinds of roads you been driving on, brother?
C- What strange forces of physics cause the walker to be torn limb from limb and tossed up into the air when below a specified altitude? Some sort of over-pressurization?

Recluse by chambers 2012-05-12T17:09:00

Nice job. You've done pretty well with this concept.

Microscopia by azurenimbus 2012-05-05T02:32:00

"Awesome," indeed! I loved the mechanic a lot. Not only that, but the later levels created some pretty neat looking patterns. Well played, sir!

Circus Flea by Ted Brown 2012-05-10T20:38:00

I still haven't beaten it, but I've seen enough to rate it. I gave it 5/5. I love simple little games like this without too much going on, and seriously, nice voice acting. It worked out on your part, too, because it seemed really polished to me just because there was very little to polish, which is a nice benefit you got. Seriously, I think this is only the second or third game (out of 65) I've given a full five. Sweet game.

Toad Warrior by SpaceToaster 2012-05-02T00:53:00

For me, what was really missing was a death animation.

The Spaceman by malec2b 2012-05-05T00:11:00

Just want you to know that There are some tile collision glitches. I got trapped in a tile upon entering another room. You'd probably like to know that.

The Spaceman by malec2b 2012-05-05T00:16:00

Oh, wait... You knew that...

Pretentious Game by keybol 2012-04-28T00:28:00

You see, the funny thing is, this reminds me of the game I wish I had made.

Game With a Fantastic Title by batzerk 2012-05-10T19:12:00

Wow. This game brought a bigger smile to face than all the others combined. Who cares that it doesn't have challenge, sometimes you just need to play a game where you can just relax. Nice job.

Kumiho by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2012-05-04T22:37:00

This may have been mentioned already (I don't have the time to read all this!) but I think that it would be better if the boss's bullets went away after he died. You have no idea how many times I beat the boss and then died from his fire anyway.
On the other hand, for making the only shmup that never once made me want to rage quit, I salute you.

T in Y World by Tom 7 2012-04-28T21:16:00

This just made me want to burst with awesomeness overload. I'll have to come back and make a level some time.

stack::tracer() by nihilocrat 2012-05-09T11:33:00

Very, very nice game. Best one in 3D I've seen.

Aether by Danik 2012-04-28T22:22:00

Now this has to be my favorite so far. I love freeform platformers. For some reason, this reminded me of Dino Run. I suppose it had something to do with the similar palette and art style. Really awesome game, dude.

terminus by zillix 2012-05-06T20:16:00

Okay, two things: A- Thank you so much for creating endeavor, my favorite game of all time, and B- This game's pretty sweet, too. I got two endings so far. I really like how every last thing is interactive. Keep it up!

Another Kind of World by daandruff 2012-05-13T14:47:00

Amazingly tight controls. Fantastic, I'll have to examine the source.

NaMa Tek by vrld 2012-05-09T00:24:00

This game is a very neat concept, though I don't have time to finish it. It really is neat. Like others said, though, the UI could have been better with labels somewhere saying what they do. Perhaps rollover descriptions.

Rock 'n' Slash by BlackBulletIV 2012-05-08T23:06:00

Nice game! In terms of balance, it was real nice, as I felt the gun and melee weapons each have drawbacks. The gun takes a few shots, and the melee has a very small window of attack. Nice job there.

Niña Nueve by Jonathan Whiting 2012-04-29T21:14:00

Let me just say I'm a huge fan of your stuff, and this was no exception. Nice mechanic with going back rooms and such. Very impressive. Plus, I don't even need to compliment the graphics.

Snow Globe Kerfuffle by j_peeba 2012-04-24T23:52:00

I really like this one too! I thought the music was kind of a bizarre contrast to the rest of the game, but other than that, nice mechanic, nice difficulty curve, and good balance! Well done, sir!

Super Shotgun Showdown by danlthemanl 2012-05-03T01:48:00

Dang it, got to the end, found the boss, walked right into him and died. Oh well, I saw enough to rate it. I'll beat him later. I also agree that collision could be better. Otherwise, nice work!

Overpopulous by Make A Game 2012-05-10T00:31:00

Wow, very fun. After a while, I experienced some framerate slowdown, but that couldn't distract me from the awesomeness of this. Nice, guys!

Tiny World War by jimmypaulin 2012-05-07T01:21:00

Fastest: 12.88s. I liked the the spam mail satellite thing you added, gave a nice touch.

Nano Commander by SmallDeadGuy 2012-05-01T00:16:00

Nice game, despite the fact I can't win any of the levels... It's definitely really good fun.

Zephyr by cadin 2012-05-13T14:22:00

5/5. Nice, simple, and well made. Keep it up!

Gulliver by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2012-05-09T00:51:00

Really entertaining, actually. Your interpretation of the theme is pretty cool, not to mention the music. It makes me want to do one of these one hour compos sometime. :)

Extensionism by eelfroth 2012-04-28T17:16:00

Amazing! I gave it 5 stars on innovation. Nice idea.

It's a tab by brackcurly 2012-05-10T20:49:00

HOW ON EARTH IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE MAN?!

Tiny Galaxy by Tifu 2012-05-13T17:39:00

Nice job! I have things to do, so I couldn't beat the whole thing, but I saw enough to rate. The only planet jumping game I've played that still managed to make it feel original.

Dwindling Worlds by NiallM 2012-05-09T12:01:00

I got the disappearing 4th circle as well. Too bad, I'll have to get the post-compo after I rate.

Planet 161 by saint11 2012-04-29T20:08:00

Just like the last one you did, it feels very complete. However, after Frostbite, I was hoping for a more innovative experience. Well done, though.

Tiny Wizard by kebabskal 2012-04-28T17:27:00

Not bad, not bad. I like this kind of game, where you don't win, you just try not to lose. It can be pretty fun, and you nailed it.

Tiny Civilization by Suese 2012-04-25T20:59:00

Hey Suese, remember me from Command War?
I had to find your entry, and I am not disappointed. It's really nice. I have no idea how you did all this in 2 days. It's sucks you in as you play really, really well. I salute you!

LD24 — Evolution

Soul Jar by farmergnome 2012-08-29T17:57:00

The first time I played this, I didn't get that I was influencing the robot. I died. Then I paid attention to the messages popping up. OH. I died again. I still haven't gotten an end, and I haven't rated it yet, but I'm loving this.

You wanna know what's funny? The art style is so oddly familiar, because it is almost exactly how I internally imagine how my games should look. It's like, when I imagine a new game idea, the graphics are really similar to yours. Capturing subtle beauty in a broad and unknown landscape... It's fantastic. Unfortunately, I can never get it to look like that in real life like you.

Soul Jar by farmergnome 2012-08-29T18:10:00

Alright, I finished with unremarkable changes to its behavior. All in all, very nice game you have here. 5 stars, and please, stay around here a while for the MiniLD!

The Plane of Evolution by MunkeeBacon 2012-09-17T22:27:00

It's okay, I guess. Not terrible. Just hard.

P.S. Did you know you can't shoot up when hugging the bottom wall? Annoying bug.

Caveman Evolution Story by davidllanos22 2012-09-01T15:25:00

Nice. Very nice. Simplicity is great.

Panspermia by Carl Graves 2012-09-26T00:06:00

Apart from the omnipotent red lines that create impassible barriers of death and destruction in the very fabric of space time, you've got yourself some pretty durable sheep!

Papillon by ChevyRay 2012-08-31T17:51:00

I won't beat it, because I got really far, and then my computer shut down due to intense lagging. Normally, this would be fine, because you implemented a save, but my save went out in the room you get the thing that breaks white barriers, right after getting it. So, those white blocks were there, I couldn't get up and around, and the powerup I collected was missing even if I could get up there, and I didn't have its powers. So, basically, my save was corrupt.

Anyway, I liked what I saw. Those monster bosses were freaky looking. Good job!

My Pairs and Me by Evilion 2012-08-31T20:02:00

Very odd. Very odd. In a good way, though.

Terra Tam: The World Warrior by L 2012-08-30T19:22:00

Weird game, man. Weird game.

Evo by GhostID 2012-08-28T22:19:00

From the way you talk about this, you'd think it'd be pretty terrible, but I actually think it's pretty neat. My one complaint is the text on the first island is hard to read when moving so fast.

Microraptor by robcozzens 2012-08-30T21:32:00

Pretty cool, despite being unfinished. I agree with Wan, what was it meant to become?

P.S. I think you should give my game another try. From your comment, you didn't seem to understand exactly how it works. ;)

AvRvE by Cake&Code 2012-08-28T22:54:00

Nice. Very nice. The graphics never disappoint with you two! I agree, this game could and should be expanded up to 10 times it's current length.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-28T00:23:00

Woops...

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-28T00:24:00

There, all better. ;)

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-28T00:55:00

There are four. The fourth is what I like to call "hidden." Hint: it requires the mouse.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-28T16:04:00

Hint 2: All of them besides the fourth are reached by pressing the arrow keys for different amounts of time. Which one did you get, Jeremias?

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-28T19:53:00

Some returnback:

-Yeah, I'm glad I added that myself. It definitely gives it some more gratification to the player.
-That "flying around" you're talking about is actually meant to resemble a turn-based RPG. So, it was meant to be like that. Of course, it wouldn't be as annoying if the map were smaller and it took less work to traverse.
-This is the one thing I don't quite agree with. When I first thought of the idea, the vision was leaving the player all alone to figure it out, thus making the experience more pure. Although, I do think making them a bit more obvious to locate would help.
-I was going to include a background of star-scrolling in the shmup part (which it doesn't seem like you've found yet) but time was against me. The main purpose of leaving it as rectangles was to make the identity of what you were looking at more ambiguous, as to make it easier to turn it into other games. Of course, this was decided upon in very early stages, when the rectangle was not even always going to be a player (I was planning to have a point-and-click adventure where clicking the rectangle would show it was actually a keycard) but at this point, it doesn't make as much sense. Perhaps I could have the rectangles stay in the beginning, but upon changing the game, the graphics would "glitch" into that genre? That would be cool.
-I know, and 'tis a burden I must carry. It's a long story as to why I couldn't fix that, but it's a dumb one, too, so I'll see what I can do.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-28T22:57:00

@Turnip: Alright, stand by. I thought I might have done the mac build wrong. Either that, or you are one of the people who they dropped support for, but I don't think that's the case.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-28T23:07:00

Oh, and to VAMFlax, thanks. Music was admittedly mixed together in Otomata, which makes music from random clicks, but it took some work to get it to sound good.

I'm not sure what about it is intense, but heck, I'll take it!

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-29T02:05:00

Alright, a guy Love2D forums helped me *hopefully* fix the mac port. Turnip, try it now.

Also, it turns out I accidentally kept the name of it "Placeholder.app" like my last game. That's also fixed now.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-29T03:02:00

Yeah, movement is definitely way too slow. I just had the initial variables set up so early that I was afraid making it faster would cause too many things to go wrong.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-29T03:35:00

Note: Okay, I may have been a bit hasty to upload this new Mac version. If it works even worse then the first port, please don't sue, I'm trying to get it sorted out.

What I should really being doing is porting it to web...

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-29T15:57:00

False alarm. Mac version is A-Okay!

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-29T21:06:00

Yeah, movement is bad, I know. We have a saying here at Puzzlem00n development. Great and wonderful concepts, and admittedly horrible execution. It's a pattern with my games.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-30T02:11:00

You found all four! Congrats! I don't think any one else has done that yet besides me and my family! Good job, and glad it works!

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-30T18:21:00

Score!

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-30T20:06:00

You probably didn't get it. Start from the beginning, and try to press the controls for different amounts of time.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-30T21:27:00

Really? Shooting backwards? That glitch hasn't been reported before. Did it only happen once, or did all the ships keep doing it?

Mouse level hint - Try moving around a bit before clicking.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-30T21:54:00

It could be that... Really weird bug. Even the player ship?

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-31T13:59:00

Hmm... @Jeremy Nikolai or johnfn or anyone who gets this bug, could I maybe get a screen capture or something of the ships shooting backwards? I really wanna crack this. For a post-compo fix, of course. The one thing I'm thinking: do either of you have very slow or very fast computers?

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-31T14:10:00

And @BrothersT: That is flattering, considering your game's idea is already so epic!

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-31T17:24:00

This is so bizarre. I wonder why it's happening to everyone now, it seems...

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-31T17:28:00

So, from that screenshot, it looks like they start rapid firing without velocity as? The weird thing is, you'd think the pattern of shots like that would continue all the way up the screen... Do they fire normal shots first or something?

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-31T17:32:00

*without velocity as well, I mean.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-08-31T18:43:00

It would, yes, but I understand if you can't do it.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-01T14:24:00

@Jezzamon: Ah, I was wondering if anyone would see that. Yeah, the keynote was definitely the inspiration for the rougelike part, though I didn't really look at his source, if that's what you're thinking.

The "make it obvious" thing is debatable. I sort of wanted to give the player nothing to work with. It may not appeal to everyone, but I thought that it would make it more "this is your game, it does what you want it to do" rather than "great, now you did that, so do this." Probably the most experimental part of it is that the game won't help you, but hey, it's experimental gameplay, it's not supposed to work all the time.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-01T22:00:00

Hmm... Looks almost like some sort of lag issue.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-03T23:24:00

@RawBits: Of course it is! The game evolves. That was the entire conception of the game! Evolution doesn't have to be "offspring get better," there's the evolution of thought and things like that, too.

And the ship bug has been reported, but not the platformer. *sigh* This just keeps gettin' weirder.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-03T23:59:00

I'm thinking it must have to do with how I timestep things. I thought it would help the game, but it could just be unevenly distributing the delta time on certain systems.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-05T19:22:00

The idea is to kill the enemies with the sword in that mode. The count is how many enemies you have to kill. Did you find the other modes?

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-05T20:23:00

You have to do different things in the beginning. Freebie: Try pressing the up arrow really long.

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-05T23:26:00

We never will. Thanks though!

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-12T01:10:00

@commanderstitch: Ah, glad you caught that that was the point before ranting on it. To be honest, going into it I had no idea whether or not it would work. Now I guess I know it doesn't. Noted!

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-17T19:19:00

@DaviDeMo: What about it? =)

Adaption by Tim Bumpus 2012-09-18T01:54:00

Alright, thanks for the heads up, man. I totally get it, it's been hard for me to keep checking the site since my own school started up. See you around. Sometime in the future, anyway.

Religion Evolutionary Simulator by jwolf 2012-08-29T17:33:00

Hmm. This is interesting. I do wish that you had time to add some properties to the religion that are good... I don't believe religion is just a potential militant force. But of course, everyone has different opinions.

Planet Evo by dick_claus 2012-09-01T14:48:00

Same glitch Uberi first reported here. A shame, too, it looks good.

Foodvolution by cobrajs 2012-09-06T21:24:00

Like it, man! If it were longer, it would be excellent. I applaud that walking sprite, too, pretty neat looking.

Tiny Evolution Adventure by AdventureIslands 2012-09-16T16:43:00

I got the bug where I couldn't get past the second level. Oh well, not gonna try again.

My first comment is: Why on earth did you add the possibility to fall off the screen? Death is so contradictory to the design of this thing, it's just not right. I got a message saying it was time to evolve half a second prior to falling off. It's extremely aggravating.

Tiny Evolution Adventure by AdventureIslands 2012-09-16T16:44:00

Of course, that was sort of negative. It's a pretty nice entry.

I'd Change the World for You by Zanzlanz 2012-08-28T18:27:00

You said you updated to decrease lag? I still get lag myself. Perhaps, and this might be a bit much to put as a fix, but I'm saying it anyway, that you should only run these tile checks for tiles visible to the player?

I'd Change the World for You by Zanzlanz 2012-08-28T19:38:00

Alright, I've managed to find a machine it works well on. I've got to say, you have a lot of talent for level design.

I'd Change the World for You by Zanzlanz 2012-08-28T22:11:00

I should've known, huh? Yeah, I played Lab Lights, although I never finished it. You just really seem to be able to make all the components of your game work together.

Rise of the Morbels by Cosmologicon 2012-09-16T17:47:00

Wow. This game is beautiful. The morbels felt so alive... and on that last level, I felt awful that I was about to kill them off. The one that asked me if I was God really made me stop and feel awful. These people looked to me as a creator, and I was killing them to reach my own ends.

At first, the ending sequence with all the "Oh, Crap"s was a slight of that, I thought, "Oh, no, he's just turned it into a cliche alien takeover story." But then, the last voiceover cleared it up. You're really good at voice actinf, by the way.

Bored Bob by OmarShehata 2012-09-17T17:29:00

Awesome. Just awesome. I only got it after the first play like many others here, but then it rocked. It's different, and almost feels soothing. I personally enjoyed hugging the top of the screen and sending my minions up and down the play area.... Just awesome.

Acts of August: Introspective by NeiloGD 2012-09-17T14:35:00

I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I have no idea what just happened.

The comic was just bizarre, and the short film was hard to understand. And the game, well, you know. Basically, the only thing I'm getting is that she's got some sort of mental problems or schizophrenia, but am I supposed to know the root of those problems somehow? Because I couldn't figure anything out. And I have no idea who the guy is either, but I'm guessing he's a figment of her twisted imagination or something.

Of course, when going with something so abstract as this, you run the risk of alienating a viewer or two. I guess I happen to be that viewer. Oh well, I suppose that's not your fault.

Well done on attempting something on such a grand scale.

Selectra by lazybraingames 2012-09-11T21:31:00

I didn't finish it either, but I like what you have going here. Pretty awesome game, great idea.

Dinosauria Square by chumez 2012-08-31T18:41:00

I liked it, although I never got strong enough to face the dragon. Good work you have here.

LD24 X0ut by X-0ut 2012-09-12T00:33:00

They say that, for an LD game, the most important part is the first impression, and you sir have blown me away with your game's beginning. That dramatic zoom out, the music beginning, those fateful words: "I open my eyes and see the path before me." Epic, and seriously makes me rethink my strategy on leaving stuff like intros for last.

LD24 X0ut by X-0ut 2012-09-18T19:12:00

Winner of the Jam, epic job, dude!

Hunt'em! by Zamando 2012-09-12T23:42:00

Wow, beat it right away, congratulations on keeping the game mechanics so obvious and easy to master. (Or, for me at least.) It's refreshing from normal 3D game art, spheres and cubes in this competition, including Jam entries.

Oneway by azurenimbus 2012-08-28T22:37:00

Ah, I didn't get what I was doing at first, but then I did. Good job!

The Best Dinosaur by TomSmizzle 2012-09-14T00:36:00

Pretty nice, man. Shows a good game doesn't have to be graphically fleshed out. Like it!

Revolution by BrothersT 2012-08-31T14:15:00

Fantastic game! I like how you make the player circle the ring to get the mask, forcing combat!

.ISO - Part One by Kortuga 2012-09-17T18:27:00

Ah, a fellow fourteenerperson! Pleased to meet your acquaintance.

Well, I can't for the life of me pass the buzzsaw level, because the guy is just too darn slow for me to reach this one platform. Even with dash. A word of advice: if you, as a developer, find you're always holding dash while playing and telling everyone "just use dash!", then you're probably better off making the normal speed the same as dash and cutting dash entirely. And the buzzsaws are really annoying, with their huge hitbox constantly knocking me back off that one platform. And the physics could use some work.

All in all, it's okay. Not very entertaining, but a good try.

P.S. I'll do your guilty conscience a favor and rate audio as a one, just to balance it out against the people who thought you made the audio yourself. Assuming you are guilty. Otherwise, TROOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

Survival Of The Tastiest by zeh 2012-09-17T19:17:00

The web version has a red bar emblazoned over it when I play: "Context3D error: Error #3685"

Nonetheless, I can still play it. I can't beat it, though, no matter how hard I try, but I see where you were going. Great job.

Revolvolution by iandioch 2012-08-28T03:46:00

Haha, nice work! I like it a lot. I didn't get too far, but I'll be trying again tomorrow! Keep it up!

Revolvolution by iandioch 2012-08-29T00:54:00

Mwahahahaha. https://www.dropbox.com/s/599gjk17l5exq9f/RevolvoScreenie.png

Revolvolution by iandioch 2012-08-29T00:56:00

It seems the best strategy is to be very evasive. In other words, continue shooting while circling the later levels repeatedly, grabbing health in the path.

Revolvolution by iandioch 2012-08-29T03:47:00

Well, turns out victory is easier than you thought!

Revolvolution by iandioch 2012-08-29T16:12:00

Ooh, post-compo version should have "Hardcore Mode" without health packs!

Super Darwin by sev_inf 2012-09-18T00:30:00

No saving. Hardcore, man. Well, I'm sure I've seen enough to rate this, other than the ending. Nice art.

The Unravelling Of The World By A Man Made Monstrosity by Starmen 2012-08-31T20:59:00

Brilliance! I could only beat it through running fast, though, like Dadayemi pointed out. Death sound is hilarious, and I'm glad you decided to voice act! I think Sergei Russiashinov or whatever needs to be in more games!

LimiT by Sakuyan 2012-08-30T19:09:00

Interestingly freaky. Nice job! You have a TON of comments!

I like the game though. Second time I've seen kitten breeding. I won't rate audio.

Evolution Stew by vede 2012-09-13T00:10:00

Haha, this is hilarious. I spent so long trying to get Cthulu out of the pit until I got it... Nice little puzzle there. Great job.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-28T23:59:00

So, I get the idea your dad doesn't know about this?

My advice, tell him. No matter what he'll say.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-29T00:03:00

On the game: I can't finish it. I can't pick up the key on the second level.

Oh, and another thing: It would be a lot better without the default GM pop-ups.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-29T00:21:00

Oh, and try not to make too many patches/updates. It makes you look like you're cheating.

Why must I comment so many times, I have no idea.

You know, Mohammad, if I could, I'd like to contact you through something like irc or email. We have much to discuss.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-29T03:39:00

What's been making you lose time? I guess you mean telling your dad. Well, here's how it'll help. If you can get him to believe that making games isn't a waste of time, then you can get him to let you spend more time making games. Perhaps show him that it's a valid profession. Heck, show him this comment. Anything to help him realize that this stuff can get you places.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-29T18:49:00

First of all, not all parents don't care. My parents care. Iandioch's parents care. Many parents care, so don't go insulting them all.

Now, secondly, I think that you need to tell them these things. If you don't want to be what they want you to be, then just tell them that. Tell them that this is the job you want. But don't take it from me, you have to know this yourself. Are you sure, above all other things, that becoming a game developer is what you want? It's not easy, such is the truth with many professions, and from the looks of this, you have a long way to go. (No offense, please take that the right way.)

I do get it, Mohammad. If they are your parents, they will listen to you, okay? Trust me on this. If you can get them to be PROUD of you, then that is all you need. No more excuses. And besides, if they want your respect, they should give you respect, too. That's what family is.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-30T02:22:00

I sincerely hope your kidding about killing you. Your life is still young. Never talk like that, even if you don't mean it.

Think of it from their point of view. They want you to go to school so you can have a good life. There's nothing wrong with that, because if you don't make it in game development, and you have no education to fall back on, then you're sunk. Now, taking the computer away, though, I understand that.

It sounds to me like you're going through some tough times. You may be saying you hate them now, and I know I can't stop from saying it. But please, try and cool off. There's no need for this anger.

Here comes some of the best advice yet. Listen closely. Or... read closely, I guess. Do you have some other adult you know that you think will listen to you? Possibly a teacher or someone else who works at school? Tell them these things you're telling me. Your parents may not listen to you, but if you can find someone else that will, they can speak on your behalf, and because they and your parents are on the same ground, a more understanding conversation can take place.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-30T03:48:00

Well then, that's a noble goal, I suppose. But first, make it clear he knows you got money!

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-30T16:29:00

To anybody who's going to rate this, you may take interest in this mirror of the older version, in case you think he's cheating with these updates like this: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/74538317/fps_extention.exe

If you think what he's doing is fine, that's okay too.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-08-30T23:47:00

Not really. We never said you were cheating with the whole premade thing, that's what the Jam is. We never said you couldn't link your sites and channels. Minecraft, maybe, that's kinda annoying still. And the patch thing is sort of shifty, but you haven't gone too far as of yet.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-09-02T19:04:00

Oh, wow, haven't checked this in a while. What did PoV say?

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-09-02T19:45:00

Well, to be fair, you should have seen that coming.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-09-03T23:00:00

You don't need someone to want to teach you, you just need internet tutorials and such.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-09-03T23:17:00

Yeah, well, you get used to that. I wouldn't be where I am today without internet tutorials.

Of course, that's not saying much, is it?

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-09-03T23:48:00

It's the same as your game, just press shift. (Haha, irony.)

It's only easy in GM because, technically, their are that many lines needed there, too, it's just they do it for you by doing a bunch of calls from your single call.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-09-03T23:56:00

Yep. They should be proud, that's for sure.

evolution of monsters by mohammad 2012-09-06T21:31:00

Haha, awesomely cartoony. Nice.

Stevie Asteroid Rescues the Hovercredits by KHANanaphone 2012-08-31T19:24:00

Brilliance! I love it! My game evolves as well, but in mechanics, not in graphics. To be honest, while the game itself is okay, what makes it even better is the story behind its development! Some of the things you've done here not even I have, such as run cycles and moving platforms, so I must say you've done fantastic!

alteration by rusticated 2012-09-17T22:05:00

Not bad for your first game. I can tell it's kinda based on the gridlocked player tutorial. It does feel pretty polished, nice job on keeping it simple.

Sorry, i was late! by infernet89 2012-09-05T22:54:00

Fun. Reminds me of my game for the warmup. Never realized it fit evolution until now...

Also, if I were more of a stickler, I'd care you used graphics off google images, but I'm fine with a little rule-breaking.

MatterSplatter by VAMflax 2012-08-28T21:48:00

Well. This is... bizarre.

Guys, guys! To anyone who's having troubles with the graphics card thing, I just accidentally found a solution! Go to your Device Manager, go to display adapters, and then right-click your graphics card and press "Update Driver Software!" Does the trick just fine!

To the developers: I suggest you put this in the description.

Space Mayham by DevWouter 2012-08-30T23:43:00

Aw, man, spoke too soon. It seems, while the game runs, the screen just stays black. No ship sprites are visible.

DrumBeat Evolution!!!! by Crushenator 2012-09-17T17:40:00

Neat. Very neat. I can see myself actually using this in the future to make drumbeats. Sure, it's not much of a game, but it's one heck of a toy!

Screaming Fish Growing Appendages by nevercare 2012-08-29T00:05:00

Hey, I got it to work! If you can call it that. =)

Additive by Desi Quintans 2012-09-02T20:07:00

Pretty good. I find the piano sounds a bit grating myself, but it's not too bad. Sometimes, it felt like I was solving the puzzles in a way different then I should've... I guess there are multiple solutions? Great for 48 hours, most puzzle games don't turn out this well.

Lost Soul by Lowlet 2012-09-17T23:32:00

I'm really unsure how to begin this one. I'm guessing I get the same issue with the background as described above. Can't figure it out myself.

Red Underpants : Minislip and the strange helicopter by Bisou_TurboD 2012-09-01T16:19:00

This is one of the most fun things I've played so far! I love it, it feels almost complete! In fact, until reading these comments, I didn't even realize there wasn't music, a good thing if you ask me! Despite some wonky physics, this is fantastic. 5 stars!

Darwin Fitotherapy by Rorkien 2012-09-17T00:22:00

I like it. Really, good graphics, too.

Epic Pong Evolution by Clockwork Coder's Development Team 2012-09-01T14:59:00

Well, why you can't mess up pong, this is pretty boring. My suggestion, instead of a change every ten points, do it every three. You don't have enough here to keep people playing for 10 after 10 after 10.

Vesuvius by Joker 2012-08-31T19:44:00

Someone should upload this on a server and put the link in the comments. It would help a lot.

Vesuvius by Joker 2012-09-07T22:50:00

I guess finding the man at the end counts as winning? There doesn't appear to be a win condition to find.

I got it to work in IE, and while I had to read the hint in the comments, I guess I finished it. Great mood.

Fall Of The Ark by rekcahdam 2012-09-03T20:11:00

I didn't get it at first... To me, the whole thing seemed very abrupt, but I played it again after reading the comments to try and pay more attention to the plot. It was better during this second playthrough.

I don't think I'll rate this... It's far too obscure for me to understand much.

Awareness by jefrsilva 2012-09-15T20:06:00

Then again, my game isn't too intuitive, either. I'll rate some categories.

Octogeddon by flyingbear 2012-08-30T23:00:00

Would someone rip me away from my computer screen? Because this ROCKS. I've played it longer than any other entry. Upgrade games have a real potential for LD, it seems. Probably because level design is so minimal.

Fantasy Map Tactics by McFunkypants 2012-08-29T01:37:00

Anyway, nice game! It's pretty awesome for a board style game, which I don't always enjoy.

Rise of a Colony by Folis 2012-09-16T17:56:00

For ten hours, I guess it's pretty decent.

Volve by JaydenB 2012-09-17T17:46:00

Pretty easy for me, too. A fun little time-killer.

Also, I noticed my health was at zero seconds before winning, you might want to check that out. You might have it die only when health is less than zero or something like that.

Beetlefield : The Forecast by Benjamin 2012-09-13T01:10:00

What does it mean when your guys just start flashing yellow and run off the screen? Is that a glitch? Or intimidation-related?

Great game. One of the best, and fantastic art. I literally double checked to make sure this was in the 48.

Strike of Rage ! by deepnight 2012-08-31T00:30:00

Darn, can't beat it. I like to see you're trying something different from your more recent melancholy tone in games.

I LIKE TURNING INTO GODZILLA!

I liked how the Professor mentioned keys and the guy didn't know what he was saying. That was hilarious. Great game, 5 for humor.

By the way, I noticed you gave me a "Good Samaritan" award. What was that meant for? :)

NICE SHOOT by ambushsabre 2012-08-29T01:11:00

The sound effects are kind of annoying... It sounds like they're playing more than once like they should. It's okay, though. I think there's an end, right?, but I haven't gotten to it.

The Legend of Elzad by arkeus 2012-09-15T19:52:00

Pretty epic. It's got some pretty good level design in it.

Legacy Bird by Farfin 2012-09-11T23:22:00

Do I love this game? YES! Very, very addicting. Wouldn't take much more work to become an epic release.

I got two bugs: One, the BIG weapon glitched, left me with a lance that faced only right until I loved climbing, getting the proper BIG upon the next stage's beginning. Two, same as Norgg, had to end my game there.

ExoSlime by leafo 2012-09-11T23:51:00

Gosh, that boss is HARD! Can't beat it after a lot of trying. I really like the game though! Although the music sort of contrasted with the story a bit.

Tiimmmeeee by matheod 2012-09-17T17:19:00

I had to use the walkthrough text to beat it, so I guess you can't use me as an example for "he beat it!" I also found it annoying to refresh after making the wrong zap.

Lamarck's Theory of Evolution by Gear 2012-09-05T23:39:00

Aiming is, in fact, hard. But this is a good game, even if it's a little slow.

Gems of the Evolving Land by RawBits 2012-08-29T19:14:00

There doesn't appear to be a real win condition, I believe? I guess I can say I beat it then! The controls were not exactly intuitive, in fact, they were a bit confusing, in my opinion. But this game is decent, and I encourage you to keep working on it!

Gems of the Evolving Land by RawBits 2012-09-05T20:49:00

@RawBits: Uh, hey, this is a bit off topic, but I have no way to contact you, and I'm sure you regularly check these comments.

First of all, I just found out you reviewed my game. Thanks a lot for that! Your comments on it were interesting.
Secondly, those glitches you found were... Very odd, to say the least.
The one in the hidden mode was easy... It seemed you won so fast because the bullets moved way slower than they normally should, and this allowed them to stay around enough to hit the spawning enemies before they even went on screen.
The ship one had been reported... It seemed to me the bullets were going slow there, too. Only the bullets.
And the enemies in the platformer? Weird. Very weird. So, I started to think: Maybe my timesteps are the problem. Slow computers could mess it all up. Of course, I have no way to verify this without someone to play a fixed version for me, as again, my computer doesn't glitch. So, do you mind, I don't know, playing it and telling me if the ship glitch still occurs, for my learning purposes? Here's the download: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/74538317/Adaption%20%28fixed%2C%20maybe%29.zip

Again, sorry for the off topicness!

So, is it working?

The Debate by KevinWorkman 2012-08-29T01:49:00

Interesting. This does, after all, show us something: This debate will go on forever, back and forth monotonously. Like pong. Good job, despite it not having much work in it.

cuboidAI by JH 2012-09-16T18:00:00

I get the same as Panzermancer... except it's black with the interface, not gray. Windowed mode doesn't help. Oh well.

Combine And Conquer by Lucas Tiridath 2012-09-17T19:53:00

Not bad, not bad. Pretty cool stuff, and although starting all over seems kinda harsh, I can't think of any alternatives. Funny stuff, man. Funny stuff.

Praepoch by Connor 2012-09-12T00:08:00

Wow. I really like this. Some of the graphics were definitely a bit rushed looking, but all in all, it fits the style we come to expect from Connor Ullmann. And I liked the surprise of there being a moral at the end rather than a cliche sinisterness.

P.S. I loved Seedling. It was awesome.

Complexitivity by Accidental Rebel 2012-09-17T23:21:00

Pretty cool. I normally agree that first person platforming is awful, but you've pulled it off rather nicely. Well done.

I like how you had some of the good stuff, like achievements and things of the like, and it looks like some auto-tiling, which is always nice. But the game itself is too hard to be casual, I mean, it took me 5 or 6 tries to beat the first level. This might be tough for you, but it would be cool if killing a carrot makes all his bullets, which you'll hopefully make bigger, disappear if they're still on screen.

Also, your site link seems to be down. I could only still play through Google's cached copy of the page.

GIFT by jellonator 2012-09-02T15:35:00

Wait, site's back up! Nevermind, you must have known.

DashDashDASH by refreshgames 2012-09-17T22:43:00

Way, way too uncasual for me. But I applaud how much work you got finished.

Also, I personally found it beneficial to shoot all the enemies in sight before leaving the starting gate. Not sure you would have wanted the player to do that. =)

Future Rabbit by airdeck 2012-09-03T20:29:00

Cross-stitch should definitely stay for the next game. Very memorable. At first, I forgot all about upgrades, and just let my science carrots sit there. Then, I read the instructions again and went "OH!" So I played it again, and it seemed like a much better game already.

By the way, I noticed one time that a turnip generated right on top of a carrot, occupying the same space. I figured you'd like to know about that glitch.

The Darwinizer by Steven Colling 2012-08-28T22:08:00

Huh. I'd like to play this, but upon running it, all I get is this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/otlmr6atlkue8ks/error.png

The Darwinizer by Steven Colling 2012-08-28T23:16:00

Laptops don't have graphics cards?

I can't believe I'm just realizing this. So that's why hardware acceleration doesn't do anything on this thing! Wow, I'm slow.

The Darwinizer by Steven Colling 2012-08-28T23:43:00

Well, I haven't managed to win, but I like what I saw. Good work, good graphics!

Otomata rocks, right?

The Darwinizer by Steven Colling 2012-08-30T23:35:00

Ah, well, doesn't matter about that mistake, and my gullible acception of it. I have returned to tell you that I found out from another game it was just a driver problem! Sweet, right?

The Darwinizer by Steven Colling 2012-08-30T23:50:00

Or at least, I think it was.

The Darwinizer by Steven Colling 2012-08-30T23:51:00

Yes, it was. Still sweet, right?

Poggle Island by Rose 2012-09-03T03:27:00

Incredible simulation of intelligent design and evolution as one... It shows a lot about how games can give us basic understanding of these concepts. For example, keeping a much smaller climate where your Poggles can survive increases control over breeding, much like a laboratory. Amazing.

From a casual gamer's point of view, it's pretty good, too!

Project "E" by RobProductions 2012-08-31T00:11:00

Interesting, very interesting... I like this thing. The idea of mankind naturally evolving to become hugantic is a bit peculiar, but hey, it works. The soundtrack was a bit actiony for a puzzle game, and the grey walls often blended with other gray wall to the point of invisibility, but those are my only complaints.

Save The Memepool by whilefun 2012-08-30T18:34:00

Heheh, funny stuff! I don't really understand why it's Richard Dawkins talking about culture, I mean, I know he's the "evolution rules and god is awful" guy, but he's not really that cultural, is he?

Oh, who cares? Great game!

The Plurality by N427 2012-09-17T18:31:00

Won't run on me either. Something about the plurality.Main not existing.

Plan M by MurrayL 2012-09-16T20:58:00

Not too shabby, guys, not too shabby. Although the ending sort of confused me. It felt really complete. Apart from music, of course.

Cytosine by Frozen Fractal 2012-09-05T23:24:00

Very nice. You want to know what would make this REALLY fun? If you sort of overhauled it a bit to make the main part of the game forcing the player to only allow worse traits to breed by corralling the enemies. It wouldn't be easy to apply to this game directly, but it be cool.

One Last Chance by recursive frog 2012-09-16T23:55:00

That screenshot of the description of the magazine... Can you not do that in the unity version or something? I don't know.

Basically, I like what's here. It's a pretty cool concept, even if I don't get to see it on a tablet all augmenty-like.

Evoland by ncannasse 2012-09-14T01:37:00

Makers of evolving game buddies! Very awesome. VERY awesome. No complaints at all, and I liked how certain things showed some satirical commentary on how games have changed. (a.k.a health = super easy)

Evoland by ncannasse 2012-09-18T19:06:00

Holy crow, dude, you won! Epic job!

RED PLANET by BuffaloPhil 2012-08-31T20:23:00

I really like it! I thought it could use some slight polish, and yeah, I guess maybe some more gameplay, but you managed to spin together a nice sci-fi experience. One flaw with the story many people have overlooked, which is good for you guys: Why does he need a suit the first time he goes out, but not the second? Just a thought.

A.D.A.P.T.S by Nik Sudan 2012-09-02T18:59:00

Pretty awesome, great graphics, great game. My one gripe is that, I know the ship gets easier to control as you play and get new stuff, but that doesn't mean the controls should be awful from the get-go. Because they are, in my opinion, very annoying at first.

Encarmine by Sailerius 2012-09-07T22:07:00

Great, great job. I really don't like that so many people are being such sticklers on what Evolution games should be about. I mean, isn't it all up to interpretation with such a broad concept?

Anyway, loved the story. And I'm one of those guys who thinks if a single person calls something a game, it's a game.

Human 2.0 by dengzo 2012-08-31T15:18:00

You're not really supposed to get sounds from freesound in a compo entry, SFX must be made during the competition, but hey, what's done is done. As long as you don't do it again next time. :)

Very atmospheric, as the others said. It was very creepy... I think it's because it makes you think, "Are we being bred for something by some unseen force?" Insanely cool.

A New Kind of Man by Khayet 2012-08-31T14:49:00

I like it, despite the length. It's a very nice idea.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Super Space Goat Thief Standoff!! by Jezzamon 2012-12-29T04:10:00

Wow. That villain you drew is eerily reminiscent of the one in the sort of secret dream project I have off to the side for now. Except mine has a monocle, of course! Thoughts:

Bad:
-The ship's turning is a bit finicky.
-The intro could use some skippabilty.
-I wish there was a restart button.

Good:
+The story makes it good, even if it didn't have goats.
+Bullet rebounds are an ingenious concept! (It would be cool if there was a combo counter for them!)

Happy Little Murder Friends by farmergnome 2012-12-21T23:59:00

Very, very good stuff. Lemme break this down.

Bad:
-It's sometimes hard to tell what's going on or why the police did or did not come attack you.
-The collision is a bit weird.
-Car accidents are NOT that often, nor do drivers speed right in to accidents or people on a regular basis. :D
Good:
-Great graphics.
-Great concept taken to the fullest. Feels very complete.
-Some nice A.I. work!

Oh, and P.S., I've seen a small bug where the faces of some people get replaced by a white rectangle for a few seconds. Reminds me of Slender Man.

Bad Puppy by csanyk 2012-12-23T23:36:00

That there is a bad puppy, yes indeed. My thoughts on the compo version:

Bad:
-Lacks just a little bit of polish to put it over the top.
-The idea that you have to face someone to bark at them isn't quite clear.

Good:
+It's kept nice and simple, and the gameplay is charming.
+You have an instructions screen. If you had months to make this game, that'd be a bad thing, but for 48 hours it adds a lot. Quite impressive.

My First Ping Pong Massacre by Martin Vilcans 2012-12-21T03:38:00

Good job here! Let's break this down.

Bad:
-Not much gameness to it
-Shots sometimes hit some pixels in the way of other buildings, and it's quite annoying when they do.
-Aiming can be a bit off sometimes

Good:
+I like the overall premise of it. Trial and error cannonading. Yes.
+I've seen the code for these sort of dynamic pixels, and wow, not simple stuff. Good work on putting it all together.

MEMEX by Cake&Code 2012-12-20T00:21:00

This. Is. Amazing.

Maybe I just like you guys, but I loved this a looooot.

So, lemme get this straight: The dark-eyed girl was in a fight with the blond girl over the guy. So, the dark-eyed girl killed the blond girl, and then stole the guy's memories and made the whole thing like a dream to him, allowing him to think that the dark-eyed girl was the one he'd loved all along.

How incredibly dark. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Those path clearing puzzles were also very original, I've never seen anything like that. Same with the story being the incentive for a player to fully beat the level.

I'm trying to make it a habit to give my criticisms in these comments, but I can't think of anything. Perhaps it could use an "undo move" key?

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-18T19:30:00

Crow's nests, slower computers can't play this game at all. I'll have to count the fixes as porting. Luckily, no one's tried it yet.

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-19T20:08:00

Thanks to both of you. Story was really my main goal for this one, yes, although I wasn't sure whether or not I'd pulled it off.

Oh, and if either of you read this comment, note that you missed out on the right screen at the beginning (see note 12/19), but it's the same thing quoted in the description, so you get the idea. =)

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-19T21:15:00

Thanks for the last room being best comment. Actually, as I was thinking about ideas for a fight with the hero, I found a boss fight article on Gamastura. It said that boss fights should be based around what you've taught the player in the game. And so I said to myself, "Self," I said, "all you've taught the player is jumping and avoiding spikes. How the heck do you test that?" Then it hit me, and voila, we have the game you see before you. ;)

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-20T18:59:00

Ah, BrothersT, there you are! Thanks for the positive comments. And yes, I really should learn to make it all less floaty already, I just never find time to tweak it.

Ah, and anyone who can't figure out the boss: Don't think about pressing the button. That's not an issue. You've got to get rid of that blond goody-goody so he won't kill you as you just after you stop to press it down! (The fact that the button wasn't as important as the enemy was meant to be made more clear, but you know, near-the-end cuts.)

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-21T12:01:00

Oh, man... Don't worry, I'll fix it soon, but I don't have the time now. For now, Mac build is down.

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-21T17:00:00

Alright, new Mac build up. Sorry, I've run in to this problem before, it's just that I'd thought I'd done the solution right this time. It should work now.

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-22T16:57:00

ATTENTION PLEASE, ATTENTION PLEASE. ALL THOSE WHO CAN NOT PASS THE LONG ROW OF SPIKES, HEED THE WISEMAN'S WORDS:

"In reality, spikes, despite what the traditional platformer will tell you, do not kill you from any other side than that of the point."

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-23T03:07:00

A space station? I SHOULD HAVE PUT IT ON THE MOON! Bah, what was I thinking! That would have made so much more sense than an underground base where he'd be shielded from the bombs... Wow. Thanks for your comments, dek, probably the most helpful one I've gotten. =D

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-23T23:16:00

A pedestal. Hmm. Now that you mention it, I realize how much more that fits in.

Oh, and the animation twitches more the slower the computer is. I think it all has to do with the collision.

Dracula's Treasure by 01010111 2012-12-24T00:22:00

Wow. Nice stuff. Thoughts-

Bad:
-It's slightly short.
-The bat feels a bit unnatural to control, but it could be just me. He might need a bigger hitbox.

Good:
+Insanely polished. Graphics are nice, and that's a cute little vampire you have there.
+The gameplay is nice and simple.

Revenge Bear by dek 2012-12-21T22:38:00

Hmm, I'm getting a server error trying to download this:

"The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Revenge Bear by dek 2012-12-21T22:39:00

Okay, never mind. It's downloading now. Weird.

Revenge Bear by dek 2012-12-21T22:58:00

YES, REVENGE BEAR. WREAK YOUR HAVOC AMONG THE MANLY.

Obviously, this game was done very, very well. Breakdown-

Bad:
-I'm not quite sure, really. Maybe it could use more backgrounds?
-Oh, yeah, it's hard to tell why stages end when they end.

Good:
+Very well detailed. I love how the men sometimes stop to puff out there chests in defiance.
+Graphics are fantastic.
+Story is both original and fun at the same time. I like how, where as anyone else would have made it a ridiculous monster or a giant cat or goat, you stuck with a bear. Gives it a really nice feel.

Vixen by bentosmile 2012-12-28T18:33:00

Wow. I've got to tell you, this really made me look back at some of the girls I know. This is a visual novel, so I can't really give you a good/bad breakdown, because literature is so much more subjective. All I can say is great work.

Behind Blue Pixels by azurenimbus 2012-12-20T03:07:00

Definitely the kind of thing we've come to expect from an Azure Nimbus game! Fantastic. I love how well the health bar bounce-off worked so that it also shrank as you went, making it harder to get a good shot for the ricochet. You're really good at making these wacky, yet clean sort of games, and I admire you for it. Good-bad breakdown:

-No diagonal movement
-A bit all over the place
+Quirky Concept
+Great Aesthetics

Lumberjack by BrothersT 2012-12-21T02:59:00

The computer I'm on right now doesn't appear to want to run this... I'll have to find a time when my brother isn't on the other one. Just know I haven't forgotten I have to play this one!

Lumberjack by BrothersT 2012-12-29T05:20:00

I feel as if I have become some sort of Lumber Ninja! Personally, I like it, and I'm not just saying that.

Bad:
-It's very long without really a break, or any sense of thing to answer "Will it end soon?"
-The story is barely there.
-A slightly incomplete GUI.

Good:
+These graphics have been crafted by archangels summoned from the high peak of Mount Olympus.
+The gameplay is very innovative and quite fun from my perspective.
+Loads and loads of levels!

In the end, this thing deserves a post-compo more than any other game I've played.

An Barun Rua by iandioch 2012-12-19T21:39:00

Good work here! Lemme break down my thoughts:

+It's a funny concept for sure.
+It's in Irish!
+It's got a nicely uniform art style, which I wish I could say for my game.

-Not jumping immediately after keypress can really through you off.
-The difficulty is a little high.

But yeah, I like ending on a positive note. So again, good job!

3vil kill3r r0b0tz by Nsmurf 2012-12-23T23:24:00

Played this when it first came out, but never rated! I like what you have going here. Some feedback-

Bad:
-There isn't much here in terms of story, and without a goal other than pursuing infinite score, it gets boring after a while.
-Once you find a house, it's incredibly easy to just spam it over and over with attacks.

Good:
+The manipulating of the characters and them going where you click works flawlessly.
+The blood is an excellent touch.

The Torture Chamber by fr_automatik 2012-12-28T19:52:00

Wow, this is hilarious. Thoughts:

Bad:
-Not much to do, but hey, that's cool by me. Just not by ratings.
-This may be just me, but spawning victims so they stick together really creeped me out...

Good:
+Fun. Quite fun.
+Nice menu there, I recognize the awesomeness of LoveFrames!
+DANCE.

Riot! by fhoenig 2012-12-23T03:27:00

Wow. Nice crowd A.I. there. I didn't realize why there was a huge mob in the center and a circle gathered around them, and I'd thought it was vaguely creepy, and then I realized it was a really hardcore simulation of a riot. Fantastic.

A Villain's Demise by monomanio 2012-12-21T22:02:00

To be honest, I found the whole experience just uninteresting. I'm not trying to be mean here, so know that as you read this.

Bad:
-The collision is off in some areas.
-The slowdown mechanic isn't strong enough to give the game anything- you may as well play without it.
-It doesn't make you feel any attachment to the game or what it has to offer. It's just blegh.

Good:
+The graphics are amazing, which I believe everyone can agree on.
+Besides the collision, the thing seems pretty solid.
+You have an intro. Intros make all the difference. ;)

Silent night by krutech 2012-12-29T03:51:00

Well, I haven't beaten it yet, but trust me, I will be, it's just that good! I found the experience all the more fulfilling when "You're a mean one..." is hummed whilst playing. =) Thoughts:

Good:
+It's like you said, "6 levels, dynamic lights, dynamic sound, super cool AI, pixel art and a christmas tree!" Quite the accomplishments!
+The whole thing is greatly polished with just the right amount of little details.

Bad:
-Perhaps it would be nice for the lights not to go through walls, along with the line of sight.
-The menu is a little less polished than the rest.
-I feel like the whole "shift to run" thing is a slight mistake. Perhaps "shift to slow down" is a better option.

In the end, 5/5, no doubt.

ECHO CHAMBER by Loren 2012-12-21T03:18:00

Dude, you are loaded with comments! What more can I say that they all haven't? Well, the story is a bit vague at first, but once I got it, it was pretty good. And there have already been discussions on the lack of difficulty curve. Other than that, fantastic work, really feels complete!

Children : Reverse Slender by HackThePanda 2012-12-21T02:07:00

Ah, funny stuff, dude. You get props by getting good scores for mood and humor, which is not a common sight. Bad and good break-down:

-Not too much variety, a bit basic
-Throwing off the player with a jump they can't use, but if you really think that's more immersive, ignore this minus.
+Fun Concept
+Very Streamlined, nothing in the way of making the game overly-complex, which I like. :)

Steve vs the Internet by TopHattedCoder 2012-12-21T03:47:00

So, the idea is that he stops as soon as he hits something when he isn't going fast enough, is that correct? It seems to always bring me back to the title when this happens, so I'll assume so.

Good:
-Steve's evident backstory is quite awesome.
-The game runs pretty smoothly.
Bad: It's pretty hard to tell what's going on or what you have to do.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-23T03:11:00

Very, very cool. It all feels so fit together, and the art reminds me of Knytt Stories. Thoughts-

Bad:
-Tiny little glitches here and there that throw you off, but it's not so bad.

Good:
+Very cool making the title screen part of the level, pretty sweet.
+Graphics are nice and uniform, as well as the fact you made some fantastic choices in sound effects.
+It has a well defined beginning, middle and end, which really brings it together. Good work.

Crime Scene by saulotti 2012-12-21T02:43:00

Very nice take on the theme, I never even thought to play with different contexts in it. Something tells me the sound effects weren't created by you (forgive me if they actually were), but at the end of the day, who cares? I like it.

Let's do a bad and good breakdown here:
-The play area is a bit small for my tastes, but I guess that makes it easier.
-Sometimes, it's hard to see who got killed until you get close... May I suggest the victim flashing red, or something of that nature?
-The rules are a bit vague. Who gets exclamations over their heads and who doesn't?
+You kept it nice and simple.
+The mechanic was nice and well-balanced.
+Great concept.
+

Escuro by azure_nimbus 2013-01-06T21:38:00

Assuming it ends when 6 blocks come out, I beat it. Thoughts:

Bad:
-Sometimes, things like these drive me up a wall in frustration, but that could just be me.
-The words on the white screen go by a bit too fast.

Good:
+It's got that little puzzlely spark your games always seem to have.
+A nice theme interpretation.

LS-MAN by LoneStranger 2012-12-23T03:57:00

Ah, definitely the answer to what Carahna's reverse Pacman lacks. Far better controls on this one.

Bad:
-It feels like there isn't too much reward for completing your goal.
-It seems a bit lacking in polish.

Good:
+Very nice control method.
+Epic opening whistle!
+Superb A.I.

hunt by zillix 2012-12-28T19:44:00

Very nice work! Let's see:

Bad:
-Certain things you can do completely break the outcomes. For example, if you pray to the altar when everyone's dead, but all five gems are found, then instead of the second ending you get the first anyway. Another time is if they reveal your disguise when you're in the crawlspace.
-It's a bit hard to understand what's going on at first, but you may have intended that.
-This one isn't too bad, but it would be nice if you could go off the ladder by pressing left or right rather than having to get to the bottom.

Good:
-The traps are indeed quite fun to play with, though I prefer the brute, thrashing simplicity of the sword. ;)
-The A.I. works well, it seems.
-The concept is very nice.

On a sidenote, I like the looks of the little engine you've thrown together for the past few LD's. It seems to be tailored well to your strengths and specifications.

4Goats1Hay by Folis 2012-12-23T04:04:00

Short, but very polished for the time you had. Nice!

Bad:
-Well, let's be honest, at the end of the day, it would be nice if there were more here.
-It's a bit... easy.

Good:
+Again, highly polished work here.
+The goats avoid the mud marvelously, with nary a glitch in sight!
+The little additions of text make it quite rewarding.

Robot Revolution Dance by dwrensha 2012-12-21T17:03:00

Hey, the OS/X build of my game might work for you now! I'd play your entry so this comment wasn't just an advertisement, but I have no mac. But know that I am in no way saying you did something wrong by not making it for the mass populace, you should make games for whatever platform you want. :)

Power Grab by Milo 2012-12-21T21:39:00

I definitely like the idea here. Let's give some bad and good comments.

Bad:
-Graphics are a bit incomplete in areas like the background and title(which has a few typos).
-After a while, having tons of weapons at once starts to not make any sense. Then again, many games don't make sense...
-The enemies get stuck in corners sometimes and behave weird.

Good:
+It's definitely a brilliant concept, and it isn't too hard to imagine this being really great.
+The weapons choosing system works flawlessly.

Space Restaurant by Cell 2012-12-21T23:13:00

Nice stuff. Graphics are nice and Cell-ish.

Bad:
-It would be nice if it looked a bit more like a restaurant.
-It seems like it would be more natural to shoot with L-click and grab them with R-click.
-Enemies spawning in the same place over and over seems a little easy for the player.

Good:
+Again, graphics are awesome. Especially the little dudes squirming around in your omniscient grip...
+The ranking system does a lot to make a simple game more enjoyable.
+The people A.I. seems pretty well-done.

And No, I Won't Tell You What It Is Yet by wademcgillis 2012-12-29T04:31:00

Agh, I wish I could beat it before rating, but it doesn't look like I will! Ah, well.

Bad:
-The whole eating thing seems completely pointless.
-From the graphics, I couldn't tell at first whether hitting the ghosts got me health or took it away.
-It's a little... weird.

Good:
+It's a little... weird!
+The gameplay works well. I think.

Eater by RokB 2012-12-21T23:22:00

Nice work! At first, I wasn't sure if there was any more after that first level, but I never should have doubted you! Let's review.

Bad:
-Moving backwards is a pain. Does it have to be that slow?
-The game could probably use a background and some other things to feel more complete.
-I personally have no idea what those blue things were...

Good:
-Level progression flows smoothly, and the messages in between are a nice touch.
-It all feels nice and solid in terms of gameplay.

X-Moon by leafo 2012-12-20T02:47:00

I can't make it past the second level, but it's so fun, I'm considering trying to play it again tomorrow. A brilliant example of what Love2D can do. The break-down:

+Fun, addicting gameplay
+Great visuals
-Tractor beams work strangely sometimes
-A bit difficult, but that's only a minus for some people.

The Maze of Evil by RawBits 2013-01-08T01:53:00

Actually, pretty fun. Thoughts-

Bad:
-You explain way too much through the wall of text, expecting the player to read it. You're lucky we all have to play to rate it, otherwise your game window would be shut at the sight of it all.
-The button for buying resources should be more obvious than the green rectangle at the bottom of a bigger one.
(I also got a bug where traps stopped working, though I have no idea what caused it.)

Good:
+Very fun, from my tastes.
+The hero's A.I. and ramblings are pretty cool.

Final Boss by Sheepolution 2012-12-21T02:48:00

Ah, the player controlled boss-fight. I've been looking for something like this, even if it's unfinished. Good stuff, better luck next time.

Path to Death by Steven Colling 2013-01-08T01:37:00

I definitely see some originality here. Thoughts-

Bad:
-Even with great graphics, without animations for troops, it lacks a bit.
-A lot of things are bugged out, like negative enemy health and really high health gains after you're supposed to be damaged.
-I, personally, had trouble getting immersed in it.

Good:
+Those graphics are pretty nice.
+The speed up feature is a nice touch.
+The whole thing is pretty original, in a way.

Brown Hat, Red Hat Cowboy POW! by Pixelbear 2012-12-21T17:13:00

Funky, bro. Funky. Breakdown:

Bad:
-It's a bit short and basic.
-Sometimes it's hard to see what's going on.
Good:
+That is one epic shootout, in that bizarre "that part of the internet" way.
+It's very, very fun.

Holly Jolly Pyromaniac by UndergroundPixel 2012-12-19T20:22:00

+Graphics are awesome!
+Music is AWESOMER!

-Gameplay lacks a little in variety
-You can't back out of menus

Overall, amazing job!

Holly Jolly Pyromaniac by UndergroundPixel 2012-12-19T20:35:00

Oh... esc button. Gotcha.

Namcap: Reverse Pacman by caranha 2012-12-23T03:45:00

Funny idea here! Let's break down my comments:

Bad:
-Slightly weird A.I. sometimes. Aside from walking right in to ghosts, one time he just stopped altogether and sat there.
-Ghost selecting is hard... Especially when they're all blue.

Good:
+It's still a great concept.
+I love how the scoring system works... Really adds some strategy to it.

Park to Park by Frozen Fractal 2012-12-21T22:30:00

Ah, nice little gem here, very relaxing. Let's do some analysis.

Bad:
-The levels don't have much variation in the end other than more enemies. (Which makes me think you should make a post-compo where the player can define how many enemies to spawn so that they can play against however many their computer can stand.)
-The fonts could use some work.

Good:
+Like I said, nice and relaxing experience.
+Graphics are nice and clean.
+Funny story and title.

LD26 — Minimalism

App Escape by L 2013-05-14T19:52:00

Hehe, funny stuff. Not very relevant to the theme, but I appreciate your thought for story.

Stargazers by Cake&Code 2013-04-30T17:46:00

I like it, I like it, even if I don't get all the references.

The tutorial guy feels a little out of place, really. I feel like the instruction text could be better substituted by something more visual, like an arrow pointing to one star, then the next after you click the first...

The visuals are just as good as always, and the gameplay feels nice and relaxing. Good job!

Composition with Yellow, Red, and Blue by DaveDobson 2013-04-30T21:21:00

Haha. The love story is a bit long, but it's appreciated.

I made a Mondrian/De Stijl game too, but you stuck closer the the whole "Composition #10" vibe.

The mechanics are pretty nice. I agree with metadept on that counterintuitiveness.

TOWLDR by Hamumu 2013-05-16T20:47:00

No... Towlr... not another Towlr... anything but that... don't make me- NO!

Heheh, fun game. The fact that clicking meant death on some levels got annoying when the window lost focus and Flixel froze the game and you had to click it, but that's mostly my fault.

I feel like I had more to say, but I already forgot all of it.

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-04-29T11:17:00

Yeah, I did put it through with some minor glitches. Not dying when touching an enemy is a new one, though... I'll look in to it.

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-04-29T20:42:00

If you're getting stuck there, stop a second and think. Why do you think I put one of the red boxes in that level?

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-04-30T21:58:00

@cominu: I'm not quite sure what you mean, I'm not too familiar with Macs. I just followed the instructions on the wiki and forums. I haven't run in to any permissions problems before, so it sounds like it's a problem on your computer.

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-05-01T17:45:00

@Rabbits... Really? My observation seems to indicate that I disappoint regularly. =)

@Charles I'm aware of the glitch, my brother found it a couple days ago. I'll look into it for the post-compo.

@caranha: I really am glad I coded that blue-red interaction in, I knew it would sell the game. And the ending was more of a way to add depth and/or pretentiousness, and to see how people would interpret it. I'm glad it gave you some sort of reaction!

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-05-03T00:19:00

Hm. It appears the extension has stopped working. Fantastic. I'll see what I can do.

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-05-03T21:53:00

Solved. The web version works again.

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-05-09T21:17:00

Would future commenters please specify what about the collision is terrible, specifically? The collision with the white tiles? Or the colored enemies? It's important for me to know.

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-05-09T21:19:00

(I'm not stupid, I know the collision is bad all around, but it's better to interrogate the players as if you're a robot with no opinions of your own.)

# by Tim Bumpus 2013-05-14T18:02:00

It has become increasingly clear that deciding against diagonal movement was probably not too smart a call. Oh well, it probably would have caused too many bugs at the time. The post-compo version will have diagonal movement once it's out.

Gods Will Be Watching by Deconstructeam 2013-05-01T17:28:00

Crow. I've played this game at least ten times by now, and while I finally got to the last day with the radio fully repaired, I still died of hypothermia at the same time a message from Sgt. Burden came up about how "WE'RE GETTING OFF THIS PLANET!" So if there was some sort of ending animation, I didn't get to see it. Bummer. I'll be trying again!

A very good game, as you can tell from the number of times I've played it. My biggest complaints:
-Keeping the fire lit, while an understandable goal, can feel a bit like micromanagement. One time, I died because I didn't notice it was out on a day I did group therapy. Now, how on earth could an entire day doing group therapy cause you to forget to keep the fire lit?
-The typos! They're everywhere! EVERYWHERE! A lot of the spelling mistakes broke the immersion for me at times, but it could just be me.

Gods Will Be Watching by Deconstructeam 2013-05-01T18:36:00

Won! https://www.dropbox.com/s/b3hlid40sih46zw/IWon.png

My strategy was to let the engineer and doctor die so I didn't have to tend to all the different sanity levels. The soldier for food, the psychiatrist for sanity, and the robot for easy radio repair without having to deal with the engineer's squeamishness.

This is not a minimalist game by Volute 2013-05-13T23:33:00

Quite a weird interpretation of the theme. I approve! You definitely got a good amount done for the 48 hours.

Mini Pirates! by josefnpat 2013-04-30T16:48:00

Nice game, quite minimalistic indeed. I feel like it could have used some random elements, like in how much treasure you get or how many people die. But it was fun, definitely made me feel pirate-y!

Blurr by Rabbits... 2013-05-01T20:43:00

Got to the end eventually. Trial and error is not particularly good for games, but I understand if you wanted to experiment with it. At first, I thought the background flopping between sun/ sun and cloud would give me some kind of clue, but it didn't seem to.

Rokhopr by David Durham 2013-05-13T01:52:00

A little bit hard, perhaps, but a very good implementation of minimalism. Well done.

A Trigger Darkly by azurenimbus 2013-05-13T23:08:00

Ah, Azure, you master of minimalism, you. I really don't know how you do it sometimes.

It really started creeping me out a bit when I started counting to aid my reaction time... The time from an enemy's first sound to its attack, the amount of steps it took... crazy stuff.

The Creation by netgrind 2013-04-30T01:13:00

Wow. This is incredible. A very rewarding experience, especially after you see how many other people couldn't solve the puzzles, haha. (I got the trick to the third one almost the second it opened up!)

[placeholder] by mtrc 2013-05-20T20:07:00

Woah, great. I made a game a long time ago named [placeholder] too, but I think this one's a lot better.

I love the comments as tutorials, awesome! Although, admittedly, some of that code might be a bit daunting for non-programmers. But who cares? They probably aren't your intended audience anyway.

There are some minor collision bugs (try jumping while holding left with a tile directly to the left) and the save mechanic is a bit hard to understand at first. Also, the sounds are very grating if you happen to have a headache, but that's mostly my fault. =)

Guru by BrothersT 2013-05-14T20:36:00

Hahaha! Solved all the puzzles. Probably the best artwork I've seen so far in these games. I mean, really, how do you do it? Great puzzles, great humor, altogether feels very polished.

Guru by BrothersT 2013-05-14T20:37:00

I mean, really, I love all the interactions and red herrings, especially in the dog puzzle.

Freedom by orangepascal 2013-04-30T16:29:00

Haha, wow! I got the phone by accident at first, but then I went back to read the comments and see if you mentioned how I got it. BoRING... Hahaha, funny. But you really do need to make it more apparent to the player how they solved the problem.

All in all, love it.

simpLify by SonnyBone 2013-04-30T21:54:00

I think the problem with the sound puzzle is that the idea of what sounds right together just isn't intuitive for everyone. I half picked what sounded right, half just guessed, but I got it after a few minutes.

That said, I could really feel the minimalism in this- well done on that note.

JOHN by LPGhatguy 2013-05-20T20:16:00

Definitely way too short, but that's a compliment, it's well done. I appreciate that you opted for mouse control to choose a direction. The title screen feels like it should have been typed rather than crudely drawn- you're allowed to use fonts in the LD! Also, there were parts of one level that appeared as if floor, but I couldn't walk to them. Invisible walls aren't fun.

CHAMELEON RUN by Split82 2013-05-15T01:32:00

Enjoyable, definitely not a bad idea for a second button in the infinite runner genre. There's a lot of screen tearing, but it's not that big an issue. Cool game.

MONO by timtipgames 2013-05-04T22:37:00

Very well polished, and some very good level design. You did great with the 48 hours.

I DIED. by NateNaterson 2013-05-21T00:50:00

Well, first of all, you guys are geniuses for changing the death message every replay. Am I the only one who noticed that? Talk about replay value! Wow! You people have definitely got on to my "play more of this game later" list. I need to see where it leads (and begins- I didn't start reading it until later).

I love the graphical style and the playful gruesomeness. Very good feel. I really ought to download Binding of Issac, I bought it in an old Humble Bundle but never played it. Also very good physics.

The Last Soul by Gaeel 2013-04-30T22:20:00

A very nice little game. I enjoy the simplicity. And the graphics are nice, too, cool way to use particles.

Life & Minimalism by WiseGAMER 2013-05-01T22:05:00

While not well polished, this game definitely felt good. I echo everything netguy said. =)

Cpt. Sqrjaw by vapgames 2013-05-15T01:18:00

Pure hectic fun, just as it should be! I could see this being fleshed out with levels and related nonsense very well. Great art, too. Well done.

10 Second Language by Loren 2013-04-30T22:44:00

Great experimental game! Wow. It's very unique.

The Rules Are Simple... by saampahlavan 2013-04-30T01:44:00

Wow! Fantastic, fantastic work! I love the animation when the player is loading. I made a Mondrian/De Stijl based game, too, but this is probably a bit more polished.

Block Disco by Jubjub. 2013-05-20T19:48:00

I dig it. It looks and sounds great, and I love the floaty feel of the blocks. Great character sprites.

Potato Dungeon by _Rilem 2013-05-11T19:08:00

Very nice. You guys have a really, really strong combat system with these swords. And the graphics are fantastic. My only complaint that can be of any use to you guys is that pressing W is a bad choice for dismounting. I kept pressing W when I wanted to jump out of habit from other games, and I'd dismount against my will.

Another thought: if there were a game that controlled the sword similar to this, except that clicking thrusted the sword and allowed for slash attacks (i.e. hold the mouse button while swinging forward) then that would be a very cool game. ;)

Potato Dungeon by _Rilem 2013-05-11T19:13:00

Oh, forgot to say, you guys did an amazing job with that horse's AI. Seriously, I'd have no idea how to make it follow you around like it does so well.

Multiplied Screens by glbs 2013-05-01T22:46:00

Nice! I love the whole idea of colors mixing to create white behind this game. The random beginning collision glitch was minorly annoying though.

Composition Number 10 by TeamQuadratic 2013-04-30T01:25:00

Minigame combat is something I like, but it does get annoying. I found myself groaning when I couldn't avoid the enemies. Which reminds me, the fact that you move faster diagonally, while helpful when avoiding them, might not be something you guys desire. Also, I wouldn't have based so many minigames off reaction time. It sets you up for a very limited audience.

I made a game based off Mondrian and his De Stijl movement as well, so I was interested to see how you guys used it.

TOOM by PoV 2013-05-01T23:33:00

Man, it's such a shame that you couldn't put in everything you wanted to, I really want to see where this was going. I beat it, though. Great art.

Dot by Frolacosta 2013-05-04T21:47:00

Beat it! There was one level where I had no idea what I clicked to solve it. It was very minimalistic, although it almost feels like there should at least be a "YOU WIN!" screen.

Million Dollar Manbaby by Lianne Booton 2013-05-16T20:13:00

I kept dying immediately after killing the Yeti. Fun game. Although you should know that when I clicked to retry the fourth time, I couldn't pick up any limbs on this fourth play.

The attacking definitely isn't perfect, but it's a marvel that you finished the limb mechanic in 72 hours. Awesome.

Solitary by PurpleMoustache 2013-04-30T20:34:00

Nice. A very good story.

I feel like the voice laid on the plot a bit too thick all at one time, but it was still enjoyable. My point is, if the voice revealed everything a bit more gradually, then it might feel a bit more smooth.

DoubleW by CharlesBoury 2013-04-30T18:24:00

I got through all the levels, quite an odd little gem you have here. The last one was way too hard, but it was pretty enjoyable. I feel bad for everyone who barely spent any time on it.

Entity by bitcrusher 2013-04-30T22:49:00

Huh. Normally, I wouldn't rate something like this that high at all, but you somehow seemed to really boil down the platformer genre to its core concepts.

Between the lines by martijn 2013-04-30T20:18:00

I made a game based off the whole Mondrian/De Stijl thing, too, and I like the look of yours!

I admit, I used the skip level button 3 or 4 times and only got nine potatoes, but I think I can say I beat it.

All the green blocks were really annoying, and the fact you had to hold up while phasing through walls at certain puzzles wasn't immediately clear, but other than that, great work. You have real skill for level design, and a lot of it.

FOLD by jwaap 2013-05-04T22:12:00

Wow. I love how there's different sound effects for left and right movement, incredible. It really lulls you in to a sense of sleep. That camera could use some work though.

FOLD by jwaap 2013-05-04T22:14:00

Oh, and I forgot to say, love that preloader popup thing.

"let's just wait for a bit"

Well said.

Paint It Black by SnoringFrog 2013-05-13T01:42:00

I agree with everything on the boringness/lawnmowing. Personally, I would have made it so that you only have to paint something like 80% black, and randomly spawned new enemies throughout the game. I also thought touching them and then pressing space was a rather boring way to kill them.

The graphics are oddly very good looking in their simplicity.

Arena by rogueNoodle 2013-04-30T01:02:00

Wow! This is pretty nice. I love the visuals.

Minimalism by chanko08 2013-04-30T01:48:00

I hate to tell you, but this link only gives me a white screen. I'm on chrome.

hru by gilmore606 2013-04-30T17:23:00

I got to the top platform, but couldn't bounce high enough to win. I'll likely try again later!

Excellent mood, the whole game feels very unified artistically. Good work!

BASHLAND - Breakout Mario Mashup by McFunkypants 2013-04-30T22:37:00

Not too bad, I guess. My major issue with it is the lack of a worthwhile or well defined goal. If you wanted the player's goal to be to get to the end of each level, then that's a pretty weak goal, just hold right. If you wanted it to be to break all the blocks, then there really isn't much motivation to do that.

P.S. Piet Mondrian would never use the color green, muahahaha.

Art: The Game by dylanaholcomb 2013-05-13T22:40:00

I really want to insult you right now, but I don't think I have time for what might follow, so I'm just going to say "Not bad." and walk away.

When All You Have Is A Hammer All Your Problem Start To Look Like Nails by The4thCircle 2013-05-04T23:39:00

Very, very fun puzzles. I love the scrolling messages every level. You also made great use of minimalism and your mechanic. Well done.

I would have played it all the way through, but I accidentally closed the window on the "Note to self:" level. I might try and beat it someday.

When All You Have Is A Hammer All Your Problem Start To Look Like Nails by The4thCircle 2013-05-04T23:40:00

P.S. You have a typo in your entry name! You want "Problems."

Budget Squad by deepnight 2013-05-21T00:31:00

I'm kind of in a hurry, so I didn't play until the end, but the graphics are good as always. Don't worry, I won't give you an overall five just because of your graphics. I'm pretty positive you must hate that.

Phlux by vrld 2013-05-20T20:43:00

A) Love the floaty menus.
B) Cool mechanics! Very well designed and fun.
C) Sometimes, I couldn't reach one node with a certain node, and then after restarting the level, I could. Odd.

Antichromatic by arkeus 2013-05-15T20:23:00

I gave up after a while, hardcore metroidvanias aren't my style. Now, if they're hardcore with levels that can be accessed from a level select screen at any point, entirely different story.

Your level design instincts are very, very good.

Moondar by leafo 2013-05-15T19:13:00

I've got to say, Leafo, you have a really good way of mixing Love 2D with 3D. Your games also have a really neat "Nintendo Hard" feel. No checkpoints. I feel that you had some idea in mind for what the platforms and rectangles in the way were meant to actually be, but you ran out of time to give them models. I'm interested in what they were supposed to look like.

I didn't get that far at the time of this comment, but I may try again later.

Reach the Moon by Nanolotl 2013-05-14T20:05:00

I cannot describe to you how much I love this. It just hits all the right points for me. Great job, really great job.

Press Z by netguy204 2013-05-02T01:02:00

Not bad! Criticisms:
-The font used for the numbers doesn't match the rest of the game, if you know what I mean.
-I felt like the levels don't really fit the game's style. It would be better if the whole thing was just one level, and it slowly got harder and harder as time went on.

Meat Meets Potatoes by Jacic 2013-05-13T02:03:00

I got to the 1500 mark. I like it. Not exactly original, but nice enough.

P.S. What did I tell you about enabling anti-alias on pixel fonts? Go to your room, young man!

Meat Meets Potatoes by Jacic 2013-05-13T22:41:00

Yeah, yeah...

hunter hungry by Jonathan Whiting 2013-04-30T19:13:00

As always, a brilliant game from Jonathan Whiting. Thoughts:
-Excellent idea to display those particles when it's time to go back. Does the job of telling the player what to do nicely.
-I love the fact that you excluded the concept of death/restart that have become so universal. Giving failing an actually heavy penalty was appreciated. However, while I realize the monotony was important to the mood, the game might be more enjoyable if the failure levels were shorter, or you came out closer to where you fell.
-It might also be good if the size of the range for hitting the swinging anchor blocks was larger than the box itself, just to make it easier. Although admittedly that might be slightly difficult.
All in all, amazing.

Dooberflop by jellonator 2013-04-30T01:55:00

Definitely a good job on the music for your first time composing stuff. I played until the potato! The instructions in the beginning roll by a little too fast for me.

P.S. Your windows and mac builds could be improved. Tweet me if you'd like details. :)

m by cadin 2013-05-21T01:09:00

Wow, great! Perfectly captures simplicity and minimalism. Too bad I'm too late to rate. I was unable to finish the game, I think it was around level 8 when I drew the line. =)

Nod by Rose 2013-05-19T18:36:00

Haha, funny. Nice concept, although it felt like it was missing some polish here and there.

I admit, I cheated and looked at the XML. Sue me. I wanted my date.

Complexity by RobProductions 2013-05-14T21:04:00

To be honest, Rob, I think you've done better. This game just didn't work for me. The lack of crosshair kept making me miss enemies literally right in front of me. The checkpoint for the boss battle was placed right in the middle of the battle, so I could die three times in a row. The reload was just annoying. I don't know, it just wasn't fun.

P.S.- I think a good personal challenge for your next LD might be to make a game without first person platforming elements. =)

# by Kitch 2013-04-30T23:47:00

Don't look now, but I think our games have the same name...

# by Kitch 2013-05-01T00:48:00

Wow. How is it that our games both consist of squares, and somehow yours look so much better?

A very nice, very well polished game. I love the sound effects, and how the fact that shooting spawns the obstacles, meaning you choose your own pace. Very clever concept, fun to play, good job!

The Fair King by caranha 2013-04-30T21:36:00

Personally, I didn't enjoy it, sorry. I'll probably try it again later, but this game and I really just aren't friends right now. For me, sometimes the line stops drawing in the middle while I'm still holding down the mouse, and it got really annoying since it only divides if the line's ends are outside the black rectangle. It's probably more my fault than yours, but I'm just too frustrated with it. I won't rate it yet.

Dungeoneer by protensity 2013-04-30T20:53:00

Wow. I like the way you mix twine and more graphical gameplay- odd, but nice.

Katana Senpou by saint11 2013-05-15T21:18:00

Very, very fun! I love it! This would actually make a pretty good combat system in some larger RPG. Not that the game isn't already plenty good on its own!

Suggestion: If you want to add more visual polish (as if the game need it) you could make the rock-paper-scissors thoughts put the enemies in different stances, to reinforce the idea that it's a "move."

The Square - By Suese by Suese 2013-04-29T20:57:00

Wow, haha, not bad, not bad, wasn't expecting that after the intro! Pretty funny, I guess. Although, I agree with everyone on the attacking- I just kept hitting the button wondering why nothing was happening at first.

The Road by GeorgeBroussard 2013-05-01T21:53:00

Very nice. I've been playing for 20 minutes, and I only got to 16 so far. Criticisms:
-I like all the death messages, but they're a little bit all over the place. The pure comedy ones take away from the part of the game about realizing how many people die at young ages and how ripped off they are. Then again, without them, the game isn't funny. My point is, you may want to pick one or the other.
-I don't really like having to wait a few seconds to watch the instructions every new round.

Rapid Tunnel Future by syre 2013-05-01T22:24:00

It's okay. To be quite honest, it didn't hold my attention for that long, I guess I just don't get addicted to things like everyone else here. But you definitely get a good theme score, very nice.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

SimDare by Michcioperz 2013-08-26T02:48:00

Wow, it turned out great! I see you implemented my suggestions nicely. The pacing is a bit off from the real world; you can win really early and you need to sleep way too often. But hey, maybe one of us should try taking frequent naps like that! Great sound effects, great (foreground) graphics. Nice job!

Suggestion for post-compo: Make Food and Hydration one bar. There's no need for both. And make a better room image. =P

SimDare by Michcioperz 2013-08-26T14:42:00

I should probably note, I gave it a one on theme. But yeah.

X-TREEEME Pin the Tail on the Donkey by Tim Bumpus 2013-08-26T15:03:00

Thanks, everyone. Yes, it is quite hard. You can blame that on me being sadistic or just being bad at designing levels of easy difficulty.

X-TREEEME Pin the Tail on the Donkey by Tim Bumpus 2013-08-26T15:44:00

NOTE TO EVERYONE: Read the ***KNOWN ISSUES*** in the description before sending me bug reports! I KNOOOW. I might see if I can justify fixing under the rules somehow just for the people who don't read it.

X-TREEEME Pin the Tail on the Donkey by Tim Bumpus 2013-08-27T16:59:00

Okay, everyone, the crash is actually fixed now. For real this time. I'm really sorry about that.

Also, @SnoringFrog: Yeah, that happened to me once or twice. I think it's a bug in the camera lib.

X-TREEEME Pin the Tail on the Donkey by Tim Bumpus 2013-08-29T13:09:00

For all the people who say it's hard: I agree. But I feel like you're not putting enough effort in to it to think of an obvious way to make it easier on yourself. So think about it.

*AHEM* COUNTING TILES *COUGH.*

X-TREEEME Pin the Tail on the Donkey by Tim Bumpus 2013-08-29T16:16:00

@Jeremias: But... the player does move on a square-by-square basis, if you just tap the key instead of holding it. Are people not realizing this?

Phew. That was great! After a few playthroughs, I got to 8 very happy and 2 happy. Great concept, nice work! Constructive criticism: It's a bit hard to have time to read what they're saying fast enough, and it would be nice to be able to mouse over people at the end to see there happy score.

Make a game Game by Pacaco 2013-08-28T21:31:00

Haha! Funny. The instructions are a bit misleading, as they make it sound like you're going to be doing a lot of picking and choosing, when in reality you're just smashing the number keys and trying to click everything. And the full game you end up making isn't too bad, either. =)

Make a game Game by Pacaco 2013-08-28T21:35:00

...Even if it is a bit easy. Also, just tried not debugging it, funny.

YOU MUST GET THE ATOMS by Terrabyte 2013-08-26T03:12:00

Yeah, you need to put it on dropbox or something. I'll download the whole source zip then get the love out for now. =)

YOU MUST GET THE ATOMS by Terrabyte 2013-08-26T14:38:00

Good lord, Finn, you may not be able to code things like physics, but... Good lord! This is thrice as good as my game! You code this whole atoms system, make all these different blocks and powers for what they do, and you coded in a level editor? How!? Just how!? Incredible! I am beyond impressed! I've been impressed so much it's crushing my lungs! *GASP*

Now for the fun part: criticizing you to make me feel better. I mean you do better next time. Yes, that is what I meant.
-The level design is great for the most part, but in the early levels it does a pretty bad job of teaching you to memorize how the game works. You just walk forward and win, there's no need to learn it. Then, with the little test, it just hits you: "What did that again?" More levels in a post-compo might help, so you can space out the learning of all the different atom types.
-Some things are a bit unclear. Telling me that such and such is a fan and it conducts electricity doesn't help as much as you just telling me "Hey, hitting that block with this molecule makes those walls go bye-bye."

Also, suggestion for your level editor: https://github.com/NikolaiResokav/LoveFrames

Graveyard Shift by Kortuga 2013-08-27T01:40:00

Wow. You're a great artist! I would have liked if the ten second timer was a bit more obvious and the enemies didn't crowd you as close. I assume the backstory you spoke of was the one in the instructions? Overall, pretty good!

Death Rooms by Jan Marcano 2013-08-26T22:43:00

Not too bad. Those bats are really tough though, and there isn't as much variety as there could have been. If only you had more time! The graphics are pretty good too.

Make way ! by neekobus 2013-08-28T20:39:00

Well, it was pretty hard to tell what I had to do at first, but once I got it, it made sense. It was a bit annoying when I accidentally placed a minion in the wrong place and had to wait until the turn was over to try again. Also, the idea that you need minions to push yourself in the right direction is a bit odd, may I suggest replacing the monsters with something that makes more sense? In the end, an okay game.

Cedarville by BenWhi 2013-08-26T23:21:00

Played it twice. I liked the connections as the others said. Although the effects my choices had were kind of ridiculous and unrealistic. What are the chances that either choice would change certain peoples' lives forever? I would also appreciate if the choices had a little more emotional weight, and if you used a better font. But overall, not bad.

Silver by SnoringFrog 2013-08-27T03:47:00

Okay, I got a silver in everything but hurdles and high jump, which were waaay too hard.

The controls were pretty bad, sorry. You could've made jump/throw the up arrow instead. And it would be far less annoying if, rather than not letting me move if I accidentally press left/right a second time in a row, allow me to press it twice before not responding to it. That would improve it a lot.

It's cool that you guys got so many different challenges out of the same basic code, though. It didn't quite fit the theme, though. But all in all, an okay game.

10 Seconds to Lava by Folis 2013-08-26T03:04:00

Dude. Putting something else in the "end" room would have been great for an Easter Egg.

Nice job! I liked the lava textures. Only complaint: Auto-restart was annoying, should be "press key to restart" so I could do something else if I wanted. =)

Chrono Blood Ninja by theholychicken 2013-08-26T16:55:00

Severely needs a restart button. Quite fun, even if not that varied. I like the little sprites. Also, the fact that you can't go back in to the last room through the hole that's right there is very misleading.

Hit'n Eat by AtomicVikings 2013-08-28T20:56:00

Kind of... odd. You might already know this, but over time I start changing between Zombie and Viking at a different rate than day and night change. I also at first had no idea what you meant when you said the viking could crush blocks. The whole thing feels very glitchy, which conflicts a lot with the polished art style. It's not a bad game, it's just that I'd expect better from a team that has so many programmers.

Hit'n Eat by AtomicVikings 2013-08-28T20:57:00

I'm on Windows 7, by the way.

Hit'n Eat by AtomicVikings 2013-08-28T20:59:00

Oh, and it really doesn't feel that fun, because there's no score or anything else to make me want to keep playing.

Hit'n Eat by AtomicVikings 2013-08-29T13:05:00

@Mironix: I know that. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, which judging by the comment on my game, it did. =P I'm glad you guys learned a lot, and I had figured it was because you were all working together for the first time. But as a person who rates the games, I have to forget about the circumstances of its creation and give a score as a player. So, again, I apologize if what I said was a bit jerky.

Time Perception by Reyn 2013-09-07T16:16:00

Interesting concept. Not bad.

One Way by flavio 2013-08-28T21:45:00

Fantastic! I wish it filled the full screen though. (I'm on Windows 7 if that's unintended.) I also wish that the font in the end credits was better, it kind of tears me out of the mood when I see a bad font. But the gameplay was quite good and well designed. You get high marks!

The 10 (other) Seconds Journey by PaperBlurt 2013-08-26T23:54:00

Huh. Fun. It has those little hints of feeling deep. It's good.

Last Words to your Loved Ones by syradinegames 2013-08-26T03:58:00

Nice twitter integration and "cinematics." Very interesting. I wish I knew how to save myself!

Hiding in Plain Sight (#HidingInPlainSight) by SanguineTheSecond 2013-08-28T21:12:00

Heheh, cool. Although I'd rather you save the screenshot in a more obvious place and let me upload it myself rather than with twitpic.

Way of the Gun by vrld 2013-08-27T02:07:00

I admit, I didn't play it all the way through, but I liked most of what I saw. It was a bit PG-13, huh? The shootouts were cool, even though it would be nicer if the shoot button was the space bar or something. And the talking scenes were well implemented, I might have to check the source some time. Awesome intros and graphics as well. So, yeah, good.

Way of the Gun by vrld 2013-08-27T02:09:00

Oh, and nice theme interpretation.

Boyfriend Simulator: Feed My Boyfriend by leafo 2013-08-27T17:38:00

Heheh, funny. Pretty polished overall, good graphics and music. Nice job!

Coin Rush by lectvs 2013-08-26T04:00:00

Soooooooo fuuuuuuun... Must plaaaaaay foreeeeeever...

Really though, you're a great artist and it's really really fun. Goooooooood joooooooob!

Furnitorture by Steven Colling 2013-08-29T16:52:00

Heheh, fun stuff. A few suggestions:
-When I try to put something in a place where it can't go, don't give me a penalty, just play the sound, it was an accident. And please, don't switch me to a different item, because then I'll try to place the old one in the right place only to find it's the wrong place for the new item, and then I lose 2 or 3 seconds for a little mistake.
-It would be nice if chairs were allowed diagonal to the tables.
-It takes a bit too long to unlock all the items. Remember, most of the people here have come to play your game for a quick 3 minutes and then click stars so more people will do the same thing to their game.
But other than those things, I love it. I really do. The graphics, sound effects and gameplay are all great. Fantastic job!

Dungeon Run: Gauntlet by N427 2013-08-27T00:09:00

Not bad. I like the way the character rotates around, it's pretty cool. Although some times he wouldn't rotate all the way fast enough and I'd walk in to a saw. It would be nice if you could add some sort of check so the same room doesn't appear twice in a row. Overall, nice graphics, decent gameplay, not bad.

Dungeon Run: Gauntlet by N427 2013-08-27T00:10:00

Also, I decided to fix the level 2 bug. You might want to go back and play the other levels, if you didn't already. =)

LD28 — You Only Get One

Mother by tchem 2013-12-17T23:25:00

Yeah, Vinull is right. You're technically not allowed to use anything like Freesound or Rorschach images, you have to make everything yourself. But it doesn't matter, you didn't know.

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Space Driller by Mr. Jif 2014-05-07T03:08:00

Wow. There may not have been many enemies, but those that were there were really interesting and thought out. Falling spikes that fall UP and LEFT and RIGHT too? Awesome.

Some more variety in the graphics for the different areas would have been nice, though, if you're into criticism. If not for their names, they'd just be plain dirt holes.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Systeme by Terrabyte 2014-08-25T17:38:00

DEAR EVERYONE ATTEMPTING TO PLAY THIS GAME:
Check back later. We know it's broken.

When Worlds Collide by Jacic 2014-08-26T23:28:00

Haha! I went in blind without reading the description or looking at the screenshots. I read the long and dramatic intro, and was ready for some kind of epic game of defense-- and then I laughed when it turned out to be Pong. Stuff gets added, though, of course.

Also, first impression: THE FONTS ARE FINALLY ANTIALIASED! And the graphics aren't terrible! They're actually pretty solid! Wow! Well done, Jacic!
