@Wan thanks for the feedback! This is why I really like the Ludum Dare. Because people aren't like 'OH this game sucks' they are like 'This game sucks because ____ this game is good because ____' So thanks for the feedback! And yea, I know this game is VERY difficult. But, I really like it.

We are adding new enemy attacks, TONS of new items. New Attacks that the player can use, and new environments.
Also, we weren't trying to make a clone of the binding of isaac. But I see where you are coming from.

This is what I picture an average ludum dare game looking like. It's just a basic game that was made in 48 hours and is just plain average. I like it:)
This game is a very solid game. And I think if you improved the graphics and the movement a little bit, it would be a very very great game.

@Vaughn yea the bug is that the bar doesn't scale properly, so it looks like you have gotten no xp, but if you look closely at the numbers over the bar, you have some.
And it is not supposed to reset your level, it saves it even when you quit the game:D

@Jason Lay Ah, glad you liked it, thank you for the compliment on the audio! It was my first time with "realistic" sounds (I'm used to 8-bit noises), and my first time with orchestral music. I definitely spent a little too much time on both lol.

Fun Game! The dialogs were AWESOME, haven't beat it yet (still playing) but nice job. Liked the graphics, usually not my thing, but they really worked for this theme I think.
Just wondering, were the things that happened such as "you found (blank) inscribed on a wall" and stuff like that chosen at random times? Or did they happen at set locations? I've told a crazy programmer wants me dead over 5 times now:P
But overall, great game, one of the best I've played so far!

Game is polished pretty well! Nice job! Graphics are enjoyable to look at and the combat feels very satisfying. The only thing I'd suggest adjusting is how far your gun goes back when shooting, it almost looks like you're turning around! Great job though.

This is a very clever game idea. I really enjoy the idea of the "behind the scenes" bad guy who tries to get at the heroes. Great job with that. Other wise, the game seems a little bit repetitive and it seems as though once you've gotten a bit used to the game you can run around pressing random buttons and still win.

I really like this game.
I think the use of the circle accurately represents our state in society right now, symbolizing a never-ending loop, while the lack of background helps emphasize the lack of hope. The train is my favorite part by far; representing the blandness, and repetitiveness in the content of modern day advertisement. Considering the theme is beneath the surface, we know the idea of "Train" means something deeper.. or does it? The actual meaning behind the repeated use of the word "Train" clearly represents the same, worn-out messages we are told over and over again by modern day advertisement. The word "Train" is supposed to be bland, and boring, to help make this elaborate connection. And while the narrator is telling you the same thing over and over again, giving you deeper insight into the game, you wonder, "Is there anything more to this Ludum Dare entry?" The lack of knowledge of what is to come, and the feeling of expectation that comes with such an empty experience, epitomizes the underline message of all twenty-first-century marketing: An un-achievable happiness. For example: "Buy this product, you will be rich", or, "If you purchase our cologne women will be all over you!". It's something you can obtain; this knowledge. So props to you, Elstretchington, for standing up and saying one no one else was bold enough to say.
Game play felt a bit static but the art was nice. Not completely sure how it's beneath the surface still but not a bad game.

Games background music was good and eerie, really set a nice mood, but the actual game sounds are somewhat ear piercing and tough to listen to.

Overall a pretty average game. I like how you used the theme, and the idea is pretty cool.
A clever game idea, although a bit difficult it was somewhat fun. It may have been a good idea to add another indicator of your jump charge besides the green bar, maybe something a little more flashy.
Something odd happened where all of the rocks fell and my points just went up infinitely. Good game though! I like the graphics.

The concept is pretty clever and fits the theme well, one problem I had was that the blocks reset quickly and if you're inside of them they can reset on you and make the level restart. This can be a little bit frustrating on some puzzle levels when you're at the end and accidentally die.
Game needs a little bit more going on, I'm not sure if it really matches the beneath the surface theme in it's current state.

This was a very well made game, not only was it gorgeous the sounds were great and it was very interesting to play. The only small gripe I have is how long it takes to return back to where you came, but that's not a big deal.

Just an FYI, the player on the minimap seems to draw behind the buildings, not sure if intentional or not, but it looks kind of off.
The audio was pretty good and so was the tension but the interface could have used a little bit of work.

@frogcheese I am aware of the wonkiness of the bridge connections, I tried my best to fix it in the postLD version but there are still a few minor problems. And we actually have planned adding space combat! Thanks for the kind words, we have been working on the game every day since the dare and have a lot of plans for it's development.

A buncha bugs were fixed with the post LD, and even more have been fixed since the Post-LD Release, you now respawn on home planet and enemy collisions are better!

I'm not gonna lie, I'm usually not one to sincerely compliment graphics, or really enjoy pixel art a ton, but I'll tell you what; I actually really enjoy the aesthetic of this game, and it's quite well done. The only critique I could serve as an artist would be some smoother player animations, but it's a ludum dare game and that's totally understandable for them to be a little jumpier. I understand what it's like to cut out little things like that for a dare game, I know I have. But yeah, really good job. Also I love the interpretation of the theme. Overall, my personal favorite submission I've played so far.

I think you executed this very well. This is the first game like this (a story-based game, not really focused on gameplay) that I actually played through completely without losing interest.
One thing I noticed was that sometimes the text is chopped off when people talk to you, and when I try to walk over to read it, I end up responding to them. But overall nice job, the art style was nice and quirky.
