Steven Seagal: Hard to SWAT by farmergnome 2013-08-27T17:20:00
Impressed by what you got done in just 48 hours, and probably the funniest game I've seen so far. Reminded me of a mash up of frozen synapse and hotline Miami, good job.

Sausage gobbler could mean something else. Nice entry
A few small bugs, but a good idea, well done
The difficulty spike was a bit steep. The graphics were impressive and the gameplay was fast paced and fun. Good job overall, not that I got very far
Just a blank page for me, using Chrome
Damn it installlllerrrr
Any chance for a port to windows or linux?
Very fluid! Jumping was a little wooden though
Nice level design, that's the hardest thing about making puzzlers. Good job, games pretty fun
Sweet graphics, really like the style
You could host the web page on dropbox with a public folder, I think the '.7z' is confusing people.
Loads more fun than I expected, and I loved the black and white graphics style
Reminds me of Super brothers Sword and Sorcery, good job
A good use of the theme. The game was fun aswell, I like things with this sort of style. Good job.
Pressing any key didn't seem to do anything?
Doesn't matter, works now
Nice setting for a funny game, hope you get to finish it
If only I was given a grenade launcher for doing well
This is really cool! Very good use of the theme as well. Best platformer I've played this LD
Nice idea for a simple game that you could end up playing for a long time
Got stuck in a wall at the same part as above, then I flew across the screen and the camera went down. But form what I saw, very smooth platforming with a nice graphics style Hope you get to finish this
Very good 'feeling' in this game, good job there.
Very very cool graphics and atmosphere, good job there
Really nice graphics, and the game made me feel like a bit of a badass. A little bit of polish wouldn't of hurt though, like after you die the game just instantly switches. Other than that very good and enjoyable.
Very interesting idea, shame about the requirements to actually play it.
Movement was a bit fast which made it more dificult, but it also made it more frantic so it works. Good job overall
very 'cute' graphics. A little short though
The small bullets mixed with the colours of the background and the movement made them very hard to see, at first I didn't even know why I was taking damage. But I love the graphical style, it's very well done
Really cool game. The art style fits well, and the use of the theme is rather neat
Very cool game, you really did a good job. The graphics and gameplay are well polished and everything looks good. Kept dieing of thirst on the last level though, couldn't get to the water in time D:
Very innovative, really cool idea and well put together. Good job.
Collision detection was a bit off most of the time. But the idea was good, with more time and polish this could be pretty good. Good for a first attempt at a game jam, so congrats
Definitely one of the better platformers this LD
I couldn't seem to click on the knife but the start was pretty cool and I still managed to have fun with it so good job
Good to see someone using a tutorial. The game was fun and the idea was rather cool. Graphics were simple but served their purpose
Nice use of the theme but the more things I unlocked the slower the game ran so it soon became unplayable.
Very nice physics, but the gameplay could have been a little bit more interesting
Very cool. Graphics are awesome and the idea is rather unique
A nice idea that could of used a bit more time. I found it quite fun to play, it would make a good coffeebreak game
Any game with flamethrowers is a good game
Nice take on the 10 second theme, very interesting
At least you made an effort on something unique and didn't give up
The time limit seemed a little pointless considering how easy it is to get extra time, a more multi-choice chat system would have been good. I liked the artstyle.
Very good puzzler, and a good use of the theme. Graphics were simple but had their charm
Very nice, but the game kept freezing on 0 in different places. Neat concept though. Good job
Very good and fun game. Especially for two days, great job
All I got was a white screen?
Woooo eggs
"The application was unable to start correctly (0x00007b)" Got an error when launching
Complicated, but I like that. Very cool
A nice spin to the theme, must of been tricky.
Interesting. But could of used a bit more time.
Some nice graphics
Controls are a bit awkward and the bullets didn't always collide, but a cool unique idea so good job there
Pretty damn funny, a retry button would have been nice but other than that awesome game *wiggle*
Insane graphics for two days! Great smooth gameplay, good job!
Seems a little bland, you could have used something like trees or bushed not black bars. And more interesting backgrounds could have been used.
Simple and sweet
The time limit seemed a bit pointless considering how much time you could get
Jumping seemed a bit wonkey. Graphics were rather nice and simple.
Could you make a smaller file size version? Maybe remove music or lower textures? I'm not sure how many people will download this due to the short attention span of most LD users for rating games
Any chance for a windows version?
A god entry, to me it was like if pacman was a super hero. Good job
Can't run it because d3dx9_31.dll is missing from my computer, I think this is just from not having the correct programme installed. Oh well.
Shame about the android requirement
Very smooth looking day/night cycle
Pretty good for a few minutes, level generation isn't perfect. It's possible to get stuck by a locked gate without a way to get a key.
Needs some more work
All right, wasn't sure if the Mac version would work
Quite nice, I liked the random panda/cat facts
"OpenAL32.dll missing from your computer" What do you need installed to run this?
Interesting physics but it ran a bit too slow for me :/
The cutscene was great, but the actual gameplay was a bit dull. It was still enjoyable, but not for that long
Didn't really understand the steps to time or what? But everything worked well
Only being able to move the way you are facing is a bit awkward
Best rowing simulator ever
I love the graphics style, and the way waves varied was pretty good. Fun to play, good job.
Sweet idea and well put together. Might play this again
A nice idea for the switching theme/level. For me the jumping seemed a little wooden though but it was still enjoyable
This game makes you feel like a badass, haha. But more time could of gone into making the levels look nicer.
Dropbox 404 :/
Very nice looking, but it's a bit bugged at the end. Still, was awesome to play and I hope you finish it!
Really good idea, nice job
Fun simple shooter
"There should be 53KOND5_data folder next to the executable" I think you forgot to include the data folder in the download.
Nice use of the theme, very difficult though.
Can't seem to get the download to start, might have to try again later, the screenshots look good though
Would be helpful if the prices were shown
Very cool graphics/display
Interesting idea. Would of been nice to see the consequences or what happens next, but I think that's against the point
Screen scrolling is a little fast, over than that very fun and interesting
Congrats
A pretty good idea overall but whether you can win or not seems to depend on random luck
Download link for windows doesn't seem to work?
Nice take on the theme, more interesting than doing something in under 10 seconds, good job
Interesting idea, fun to play for a few minutes.
Why the bright pink, why?
Couldn't quite get fast enough, awesome idea though
It's better just to run than it and fight as all it takes to die is to atack one enemy whilst an enemy is behind you. Graphics are great though and the game has a cool atmosphere. Had fun playing it, good job
The download link is in the notes guys
Best game that tried to do something like this that I've played this LD, very good job and the graphics were fantastic
Loading bar doesn't seem to load, but could be my internet connection.
This game's pretty funky, the blue colours give it a neat atmosphere and I had fun playing it. Good job
Very atmospheric, but I didn't get very far. There wasn't too much point having time as health as it was so easy to find.
Nice use of the theme, first one I've seen not involving time. And a cool game mechanic pretty fun for a while. Had me a bit confused at first though. And haha, the censor box. 5/5 on theme
This game is awesome fun, took me a few rounds to figure out which side I was on but after that I had great fun. Very good job
The laughing sound effects just add to it all
Very nice, smooth and well written. Very good mood aswell. Excellent entry
This game gets pretty damn hectic pretty damn quickly
A cutscene of the dude shiting himself would of been good
The game looked good and played well, after I got used to wall jumping but I'm not sure where 'ten seconds' fits in
Couldn't get past the boss, his attack is hard to dodge.
Could of used more time or levels, but the idea is rather good
"The application was unable to start correctly(0x000007b)" Can't launch the game
Rather short, and I found it difficult to read whilst the timer was going down. But, the writing was well done. Also, a little short
Just a grey screen for me, tried opening the html page and the .swf
I find it funny to see all my mistakes pile on top of each over. And I really like the scrolling backgrounds, good job
I managed to get pushed off the bottom of the screen by an orange block
Could you add a download link for Linux users? unity web player doesn't work with Linux yet
Oh man them graphics, but still good job. Everything works well and the simple idea makes it easy to pick up and play anytime
The graphics may be simple but I love them. The star field is also a nice effect. Very short though, something like more stages would of been nice
The player moves a bit slow but the graphics style is rather interesting, it's simple but looks good.
Does this seriously require a twitter account? Like mochalematazi said, this is a turn off.
Cool idea of changing weapons, nice use of the theme. The game could get pretty hectic as it went on. Had fun, good job
Shame you ran out of time
Played it a few times and always lost 6-0 :c Is there a way to win? Really cool idea, was fun.
Definitely fun to play, it was slightly annoying that guns didn't auto reload though, especially with the rocket launcher or mines. But still, fun to play, cool graphics so good job
Wonderful theme and graphics. And a nice use of the theme, I enjoyed playing it
The idea sounded a bit boring at first but I think it's actually rather fun. Quite unique aswell
Awesome graphics!
How do I start this game? I think I pressed every key on the keyboard but nothing happened
Not sure where '10 seconds' but the atmosphere in this game was fantastic. It had me feeling the things described. Very good job there.
Great super-shit ending :P Nice graphics, and fun smooth gameplay
This is awesome, will play again
No linux or android here :/ You could link an android emulator or virtual linux machine,
Congrats
Shame you ran out of time
I clicked to start but nothing happened, using Chrome.
The loading bar always seems to freeze after 3/4 for me
Neat idea, however I'd rather of not started with just one screen after losing as it was more of a tutorial. Never the less, good job.
Collisions were a bit messed up in places but the idea was neat
Stuck on IE for the time being, might have to try this later
Managed to lose my other tools, an arrow pointing to them on the HUD would of been useful
Haha, a nice idea, a much better use of the theme than some other entries.
This game had some really cool effects, I'm impressed how much you got done in 3 days. Looks very complete, good job
Couldn't figure too much out, but from what I saw it was really cool. I liked the graphics style aswell, good job
Interesting art choice
Linux 64bit only is really limiting how many people can test your game. You might want to port to windows or mac so more people can rate it
I really liked the gameplay and the art was really good, I liked how it wasn't fancy but still worked really well. It was defifnitly fun to play. But I'm not sure how this actually fits with the theme. The audio was also very good, it fit really well with the game. Another one of my favorites this LD
The idea was good but the game itself seemed a little boring to me, but maybe not for others, the character was slow and the levels were repetative so I didn't bother getting very far. My cursor would frequently freeze and santa often got stuck on corners. The graphics were simple but worked and the use of the theme was there, so still a good job and I give credit to anyone who managed to finish this LD for it didn't go so great for me.
I'm not the biggest fan of puzzle games but I found this one quite fun. I really liked the art theme you'd gone for. However, there seemed to be a few collision problems, moving in the direction of the wall you're on would make you glitch along it meaning some areas could by bypassed. Also, I preffered the levels were the camera didn't move. Goodjob overall, this was rather fun.
I really liked the graphics, they were very well done. However, the game itself wasn't the most fun. Everything worked but seemed a little empty. Also, not being able to cancel a waypoint was annoying as you couldn't move away from a group of people where you had already set a waypoint.
The art was quite nice, but a little plain in places. The game was simple but not the most fun. Also, I noticed if you picked up a cookie just ofter the Mum had left the door you'd get a game over. A nice use of the theme aswell.
"Error main.lua 273 bad argument #2 to 'draw' (number expected, got userdata)"
Crashed on launch, on Ubuntu 12.04
Oops, just realised I forgot to take out the level regenerating when you hit space.
The lighting was very good however, walls didn't light up when you shone a light at them. This made it hard to see what was a wall and what wasn't, mixed with the janky controls this made it hard to navigate. The levels were well designed and the art was impressive for a 48H jam, so good job there.
Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen this somewhere else.
A few bugs:
The 'enemies' didn't seem to do anything
I ended up going through some walls, and then ended up completely out of the map
The 'shooting' didn't do anything
Nothing seemed to work
Also; the player seemed to slide too much after stoping moving and it was easy to get caught on corners.
Using Mozzila Firefox on Ubuntu 12.04
The collisions were a bit weird, you'd start floating if you hit the side of a block and had to move off it to try and jump again. It was a bit difficulty to actually move around and the players odd shape didn't help. But atleast you got something done in the time you had, so good job for that and better look next time. This was better than just giving up.
I liked this, but mostly just because it was related to The Hobbit
I really liked the colour pallete and the game idea was pretty good. I found it fun to play but got stuck rather quickly. The graphic style is supber, a really good job there.
The game idea was quite good. But, I noticed the 'ball' would shoot to above the cursor and having to start from the start again was annoying, considering the difficulty of the levels.
I really liked the simplicity and the arcade style gameplay. This was really well designed. Everything form the binding of keys was well designed. The gameplay was very fun aswell as frantic. The music was superb. There isn't really anything bad I can say about this, the graphics were a bit basic but somehow managed to look good . Also, I enjoyed watching you stream the development :)
Well balls, I'll fix this as soon as I can but that might not be until 12 hours, sorry guys.
Ok, re-compiled and tested it on a Windows computer, problem should be gone. Also if you get an error the same as b222ster it's because you have an outdated version of Love 2D, the default install love on Linux is outdated, instructions for getting the right version are in the notes.
Well that was fun
Simple gameplay but the audio really tied everything together nicely, good job.
Nice game, would have liked to be able to do more to help out my guy win his fight. Perhaps some different things you could throw. Graphics were really nice and so was the music.
That bee was too damn cute, lovely graphics.
Nice twist on asteroids, well done.
Cool concept although I'm not sure the execution is quite there. Graphics were nice, visuals were definitely the strong point for me. The screen shake and sound effect were very satisfying. The heat % and cold % should probably be combined to a temperature that should be kept around 50% I wasn't sure why they were separate. Solid entry though, congrats.
Neat idea, maybe could have done with a more interactive tutorial stage or something but I was able to get the hang of it from the text instructions. A scoring/highscore system would have also gone really nicely. Nice style overall and has a pretty polished look to it.
I think it could of done with some more instructions/explanation of the mechanics but I still managed to get to the end. Really liked the background music loop, probably the best one I've heard so far. Graphics were simple but nice and got the job done. Overall good entry, well done.
Good idea just needed some tighter controls/ui to make it a bit easier to play. A few small changes like being able to reset instead of deleting nodes one by one would go a long way.
@43sam thanks for the lovely review but I think you commented on the wrong game.
@43sam No problem! Thanks for playing, hope you enjoyed it.
D o y o u r c h o r e s
Short and sweet. Mood and audio were definitely the strong points for me. Getting caught by the laser enemy on the last screen actually helps you get back to the plant faster. Graphics were ok. Movement was not the best though as being locked into a grid felt awkward. Good job overall, congrats for finishing.
Really like the look of the game and the ambience it has. And the little pet was adorable.
My favourite graphics so far. A couple sound effects could have gone a long way to improving the combat feel but a very good entry non the less.
Simple but effective game-play loop. Aiming was a little awkward but I was able to get the hang of it. The menu buttons were actually really nice and it had good music.
Controls and movement felt really nice. Mechanics were simple and easy to understand. Graphics were good, I especially like the burning fire effect. The music loop was good but it was obvious when the loop started again. My best run ended when I couldn't find anymore logs to throw into the fire.
Cool idea and reasonably well executed. Perhaps a tad too hard at first. It was difficult to discern what could be interacted with or not so took a lot of trial and error but I had fun with it.
Nice tutorial. Music and sound effects got annoying rather quickly but it's good that they were there. Graphics were simple but very clean and effective with a consistent visual style. Would have been nice to see some variety in enemies or some upgrades for your pet but still a nice game regardless, well done.
Really nice little game, a simple mechanic utilised very effectively. The game felt very satisfying and the sound effects/accompanying music fit very well with the style. Graphics were also really nice. Solid entry here, well done.
Controller support was a really nice addition. It has got an overall high level of polish which is really impressive to see. The character designs and other graphics were also very well done.
Really nice and refreshing to play something like this. You did a great job with building the atmosphere of the game. Loved the sounds, the pace and the text.
Definitely a strong lemmings vibe as others have said. The mouse camera movement was a little weird for me. I would have preferred hold and drag style but once I got used to it it was fine. Music loop was really nice and catchy. A fast forward button would have also been nice.
Really nice, don't think I can even think of any complaints. It was a really neat and polished experience. It did feel a little repetitive at times but that's more down to my inability to solve problems.
Nice entry. I have to agree with @nobleboy and say that I wasn't a fan of the keyboard controls. I didn't find it particularly intuitive to control although I could understand how they work. As keyboard was your preferred way to play the game was balance around that making the mouse controls too easy. But really controls shouldn't be what determines a games difficulty.
I was using the web version and found the main menu button after dying rather unreliable. Sometimes I would have to refresh the page to reset.
The music loops were a nice addition and the sound effects did their job.
More variety, as you have mention, would of been a really nice improvement but of course I understand the time restrictions we all face.
Overall it is a fun concept with a nice amount of replayablity. A good little time waster for 5-10 minutes here or there.
Really awesome idea and a well put together demo of them. Just a shame about the length but I understand it probably took a lot of time to get this working and looking as good as it did. Definitely worth expanding on as a future project.
The voice acting and story were well worth the effort you put into the them. It really made the game for me. I think that after a few screens the levels got a pretty repetitive, there were only really about 3 styles of obstacle with some minor variations. It would have been good to see a little more variety. Also there wasn't much incentive to not just play it safe and use the lowest speed for most of the game. Perhaps a timer alongside the repair cost would have been nice. Nevertheless I had a good time with it and think you will place well in audio and humour in particular.
Good game overall. I feel like the controls could have been a little tighter, perhaps if the acceleration was slightly dampened. But the crazy feeling of the driving could have been intended. You also seemed to rotate in the opposite direction slowly if you held a or d whilst not moving.
Nice game. I found a pretty easy solution in the end. Ride the long block around by holding left then when you drop from the top you miss all the red blocks and get caught by it again. It was cool to try and come up with different patterns or solutions that could work.
Great concept, I wish there were more levels or more stuff to play with in each. Honestly a really fresh idea. Watching the two people fly of the rotating restaurant was super funny, I had to do it a couple of times. I didn't find it difficult or confusing as some people have said once I had grasped the concept. Took maybe 5 minutes to get to the end.
11 attempts for me, got blown up straight away on my first. Fire rate was my favourite power up. I found the game really fun to play. I think the difficulty and progression were just right to keep someone playing until they beat it without getting bored or frustrated. The graphics and sound were simple but did the trick well enough. They would be an obvious area of improvement. The UI also could have been a bit more than just plain text and it also overlapped the gameplay area. However none of these really impacted my enjoyment of the game.
Found it pretty satisfying whilst it lasted
