Really nice game! The voice acting and humor were great, and it was a unique take on the theme. After the first loop, I tried to break it by following the other cars (goind up/down), but I just got lost outside the game and had to restart... But other than that, it was a great entry!
Got a good few chuckles out of this one. The graphics and music are endearing, and the controls are solid enough, but the real star of the show is the writing and voice work. From a gameplay perspective, it's a little basic; you could add a risk/reward factor if you added a time limit (before the kids start kicking the back of seat, maybe?), encouraging players to go faster at the expense of picking up a few more dents. Incidentally, I was about £2,600 out of pocket by the time I got there.
Man, these people need couples therapy. I enjoyed the humor a lot, great work on the story and voice acting! I owed about £7,000 for my haphazard driving. Great work!

Great humour, felt like being a kid on a road trip again haha. Not much money left for the arcades with £2800 repairs!

Fun idea, but much like the real thing, it does get a bit boring after a while. I do appreciate the effort put into the voices; you don't see that a lot in gme ajams.
Pretty funny and witted. Voice overs and the devlog are both fantastic! I didn't expect that. Gameplay was a bit bland, but considering its the compo, its more than good enough. A quick fix (possible within the compo timeframe) would have been to add some cars moving behind you and in front of you to force you to speed up or change lanes, etc... I liked the paint-like flat art! It fit the humor side of the game very well.

@judgezedd I had fun with your game :D great job :)
Voice over was entertaining. The crisps line was my particular favorite. Only suggestion I would really have is I wish speed mattered. As it is driving careful and slow is beneficial score wise whereas driving full speed is when its at its most fun. Given the jam and theme I understand that choice but if you do any post jam builds that is what I would recommend.

Fun game, good humor. I found it pretty hard to control, it reminds me of remotely controled cars :D

Really good humor. I also enjoyed your intro video and your thoughts on game development. I also feel like Game Jams are teachable moments. You have to keep things simple and make just a prototype for a game.

I enjoyed playing this little game, for a compo it's a very solid entry. I found the audio especially charming, though it was a bit disorienting that nothing happened during dialogue. The intro was also kind of abrupt, I didn't catch what the dialogue was trying to say and the instructions were quite wordy. However, the rules and game-play were straight-forward enough and it was engaging once you got into it. I agree with the others, more variation would've been great. :)
Really liked it good job :v:
Fun game, but there were quiet a few bugs. For example if go on another road of a crossing you can get outside of the screen, which makes it very hard to go back. Also if you do that you become invinceble for some reason. Also the tutorial could have been less with text and more with visual gameplay.
Awesome writing and voice acting xD simple but fun gameplay even if I didn't find the controls really intuitive. I loved it (and only got a 16k bill, that's fair for some hollidays :p)

Humour is off the charts! The voice acting too! You could actually have all the dialogue during the gameplay as the driving itself felt a bit quiet and didn't require much attention.

It's a good thing they decided to vacation in a country that doesn't have traffic cops, otherwise I'd be in trouble. This was a fun little driving game, good work!
Also, I did manage to get actually lost by making a turn I wasn't supposed to and driving off the map lol.
@klaaswag I promise, it doesn't. It's an issue with an exported Clickteam Fusion executable that they've been made aware of. I give you my word, if you find anything truly nasty in the executable (other than the graphics...), you can publicly drag me on twitter. @ZayneDoesThings

@judgezedd Okay... I sadly can't install it since windows keeps removing it with in the millisecond!... Hope you receive some good ratings then!
The voice acting and story were well worth the effort you put into the them. It really made the game for me. I think that after a few screens the levels got a pretty repetitive, there were only really about 3 styles of obstacle with some minor variations. It would have been good to see a little more variety. Also there wasn't much incentive to not just play it safe and use the lowest speed for most of the game. Perhaps a timer alongside the repair cost would have been nice. Nevertheless I had a good time with it and think you will place well in audio and humour in particular.
Seems that I'm stuck in a loop there :) Feels like totally accurate simulator of going on a vacation with family.

I really liked the driving mechanics, felt like the old top-down racing games from the 16-bit era. The story was oddly dark for me, couldn't help feeling very sad for the couple, but I did appreciate the voice acting and effort on the narrative.

That was suspiciously accurate family vacation simulator.
I really liked the humor (or humour?) in this one. It was fun to play!

This game was hilarious, I only hoped that it would get even crazier! At some point I thought that the "Are we there yet?" was syncing with music, was that only a coincidence? I was so expecting a "A-A-A... Awedeyet?"
Visuals are what they are, but i must say that they are perfect for carrying the humour. The audio was really nice too!
I had a very good time playing your game, thanks!
What a great entry! I like everything about this game. I know that a lot in it are silly, but that is the point. The humor is not too sharp though it gave me slight smile. I like the visuals they are make the game totally unique. The music is good though, but it is not in my taste. More over you did a great job on making looping more meaningful when added different dialogs. A lot of games make looping mechanics repetitive the dialogs helps to overcame this. I didn't finished the game though because I stucked when moved on the wrong road (you can see it in the attached screenshot). I hope you'll continue you gamedev journey! Image 2020-10-07 22.56.19.png

Really enjoyed this game. The music is pretty aweome and the graphics, while crude on the surface, are actually pretty good (no garish colors, for example).
Not exactly a joy ride, but still quite enjoyable :)
Pro tip: You have a way better chance of surviving intersections if you actually come to a full stop beforehand! Of course I doubt anyone will actually do this...
I love the art style, it worked really well for this. Fun game for a minute or two. Nice entry
Loved the banter, absolutely hilarious, the gameplay was quite solid as well, I was beginning to wonder if I would ever get to my seaside holiday as the levels were looping, but the dialogue made it seem like I was progressing. The car controls were well executed too. Great game, keep it up!
Best game I've played so far. Loved the music and the graphics. The game was very fun to play. I decided to try driving back from where I came once and lost my car, but that was fun.
I made it to the beach with (only???) £7200 in repairs. Oh my. The game is really well rounded. The visuals, music, gameplay all fit together very well. And by far the best part was the voice acting and witty writing. Hands down this is what makes the game really shine. You don't really see much voice acting in Ludum Dare entries and I'm really glad this one has it. Grounded the game with a good short story and provided many chuckles along the way. Well done!

I loved the simplistic art style and humour injected into this game. I was entertained. Thanks for the game.

Realy good humor at the start especially when you start playing and realise driving is super hard. It gives a standart theme a whole new experience.

I tried launching this on Mac using Wine, but game starts in weird fullscreen mode with the right half of the screen beyond the monitor. Not sure how much you can do about it, but reporting just in case :)

TRAFFIC LAWS ARE FOR CHUMPS! I was only out 5200 pounds. I quite liked the music and voice acting and writing. Would have appreciated a barrier to prevent me from leaving bounds, but aside from that, this was solid entry.

Also glad to see I wasn't the only one with a limited number of hours to dedicate to the project. I think I had a total of 14.
That was great especially considering the time you had to do it! And trust me, your programmer art is way better than most out there

I must say you are quite a sound master. The BGM fits the game's pace perfectly, I think the best part is when the car knocks something , it makes a HUR sound which is both funny and appropriate. Your dialog also adds fun to the game. The gameplay is also very engaging despite the simple graphic. well done.
I'd like to play this game but the antivirus says it's harmful :((

Well done :) That was awesome! And considering it's a compo entry makes this even more of an accomplishment. Loved that you put in a good measure of British humour and even got a whole story going. That's not something I'll take for granted. The controls were snappy enough, even though I would've liked it more if the car rotation would be more free not not limited to a number of set angles. The addition of a parking lot to get used to the controls was a far-sighted idea. The core game play loop was also fun to play and kinda satisfying to pass the intersections frogger-style withoug being hit. Color coding the other cars depending on their velocity is another plus point on the list! Your roads do have the weirdest traffic jams though :D
All in all, I really enjoyed the game from start to finish. As soon as I thought that it should probably end soon, it did, so it didn't overstay it's welcome. Good call on the amount of repetition you included. Congrats!

Brilliant! You had me laughing there several times! :)
The antivirus is using heuristics and wrong. The file is fine (I did have the warning as well) It's a fine little game! I got a vacation, a nice repair sum and a divorce coming up :D

Good idea with great humour, the art style is simple but yet fits well with the concept
That was really funny. Hard to stay mad and be frustrated when the music is schmoovin. Accidentally closed the game at one point because I wanted to pause it so I hit Esc. Turns out that completely closes the game. There was a point where the level glitched out the speedometer, but it returned to normal at the next level. At one point I increased the repair fee by 200 pounds because a cutscene restored my previous fast speed right after it ended with no warning, and got a fender bender. Other than some of these issues, very enjoyable game. Good work!
