A gory Slime by kivifreak 2012-12-19T02:20:00
Good job, but I had the same problem running into the wolves because of having to get too close to the edge of the screen to make it scroll - couldn't see what was coming. Music was well done.

It's a functional turn-based game - great job on getting that working. It would have been nice to have buttons or text in the game to help figure out the controls. I was a bit annoyed by the enemy infantry surrounding me before I could even build a factory, but I could still got rid of them. I also got the error on the 'backup' map.
Excellent game. I love the feel of the grid-based movement along with that little tapping sound you make. A lot of other nice touches in sound/graphics/humour make this one really memorable.
I wasn't sure what I was trying to do, but I felt evil doing it!
I love this one! Reminded me a lot of Gauntlet.
I really like the idea of this. It begs to be played on a touch screen. I found the audio to be really irritating though, especially the relentless hero firing sound.
After coming back to try this again (I didn't know how to rate it a week or so ago), I don't think there is anything wrong with the controls, it's just that the gravity is way too strong. If you let Trina fall she will pick up so much speed the screen can't scroll fast enough to keep up. Since there is no real consequence or hazards (like bottomless pits) for running out of muscle energy, why not make her more buoyant and let the player focus more on exploring the beautiful world you've created?
(Apologies if i'm repeating points already made, I haven't read all the previous comments.)
The idea of the villain investing in preparation for his inevitable downfall is quite hilarious! I can't say I made enough for my villain to have a comfortable retirement though - he would probably have to move into his evil son's basement. If this was developed further I'd like to see the hero unable to attack my lair until he reaches a certain level.
I loved spewing bile all over the place! I would have covered every surface if allowed - sometimes it was tricky to darken a ground tile that was in a corner. The little details you added made up for the additional level you didn't have time for.
Great stuff, very moody. The sound is what impressed me the most - I got a "Kid A" vibe from it. I don't mind that there wasn't much difficulty to it, after a few minutes I decided to lose to see what happened.
Nifty map generation. I like the news ticker - "Yahoo clones Spider-man" ...what? Ha ha.
Looks great, plays great, and feels finished. Wooo...$145!
Thanks for the comments.
@ripter: Unfortunately I ran out of time and didn't have a chance to add balance or progression to the gameplay, so it turned out more like a prototype with completely random events.
Thanks for trying it out and commenting.
It's easier to win by 'crushing' the hero as soon as you have more power and fame than him - as time passes you are less likely to keep up with the growth of the hero. The amount of stats you gather and how much greater they are than the hero effect how many years you maintain your rule of the kingdom afterwards on the score screen.
I wanted to have a bit more interaction and a longer task list with a smooth drag and drop interface, but I didn't manage my real-life tasks well!
About 3 hours to go until rating ends. Thanks to everyone for playing. As my first game compo, the most valuable part was getting feedback, so I've made an effort to play and rate the games of everyone who has left a comment. Cheers!
Nice idea! The flying and shooting part of the game feels much more polished than the base building.
Funny stuff! After the first level I never had enough time to save up enough for anything but comets and a few tidal waves.
I'm furious that my hard-earned tax dollars are being wasted on having law enforcement officers patrol the graveyards at all hours. I can assure you I will be writing a strongly worded letter to the mayor! (Well done.)
I though this was really well put together. The balloon popping level was infuriating - the only one I couldn't complete in training. Sometimes the levels ended abruptly, I wasn't sure if I missed clicks or ran out of time.
Great quality.. amazed at how much you got done here. If the number of objects you had to collect was reduced by half it might not have had a chance to feel repetitive.
Ha ha! In this case, kgb is the villain. I'd have better luck playing 'Mike Tyson's Punch Out!' with my elbows.
You've managed to capture what is probably a universal childhood fantasy that many of us may have forgotten about. For a few minutes I reexperienced the awe, creativity and mischievousness of being a child left alone with his imagination. Thank-you.
Love it. I played it twice. Would happily play more if it was polished into a full game.
I had a lot of fun whacking things, but I didn't understand what it is I did to trigger a 'win' for each level. I liked the controls and feel of the platforming - the bugs I encountered with it were that you could tap jump to climb up walls, and the player wasn't 'stuck' the ladder when using it, you could pull off to one side and get inside the ground. I moved down a ladder and kept going into the ground then popped right out into white space, but it triggered the level to complete. :D Great job on the art too, both quality and quantity.
Congrats on finishing! I really like the idea, but had the same control issues as others have mentioned.
I guess I should have guessed by the title of the game that it was a tower defense style game. At first I was tapping on the taxmen, thinking that's how I was firing. Then I realized I just needed to drag wizards onto the field. :) It was very easy - too bad there wasn't more waves.
Either there was no sound, or it didn't work, and I didn't understand the need for the "reboot your phone to play again" message. I could play again, but some of the sprites (projectiles and wizards) were messed up, so after killing the app with a task manager and starting again it worked fine. FYI it ran well on an old Samsung Galaxy 551 with 2.2.
Well done, but I stopped playing with over 170 days left to go in the game - please consider that we have 1300+ other entries available to try! :D
I'll admit I got frustrated and gave up trying to get past the double lasers, but the controls and gameplay is really well done. A bit annoying having the pop up text information covering the player when there was plenty of room at top or bottom of screen for it.
Nice job! Looking forward to seeing how you make out with the post-compo version.
Simple, fun, and looks great! An original take on the classic 'snake' game.
Sadly my only Android device is an old Galaxy 551 running 2.2 and it 'ended unexpectedly' on startup of the game. Such a great idea, though. I can imagine this type of game as a new genre, for example a game version of The Bone Collector where you play as Denzel Washington's character.
Great music. The '..his reason to live' level was too tough for me, and I gave up.
If you're killed by your clone, is it suicide or murder? :P
Thanks for the comments! The need for more/larger levels is noted.
@doonay21: Oh yeah! Nice find. I made a mental note to prevent loading locked levels in the last few hours, but it must have slipped my mind. :P
I love the graphics, but there's no feedback to know if I was playing correctly. Do I just hold space for 10 seconds when the edges of screen flash red?
The controls are initially frustrating, but I was soon hooked on this game. Amazing sound, graphics, and level design. I couldn't figure out how to avoid the third set of wall spikes on the "Difficulty Spike" level.
Fun. When I go to a new room some of the things from the previous room is still there, like big red lasers items dropped from mobs.
Forsooth, I admire dost fluentness of thine cave generatoror.
Nice! Might want to check spelling of 'geneticist' if you continue development. It's a weird word to say.
I did it! Just a casual jog for an alien.
Great job. 53 and 4. Wish there was a full-screen or 2x scale option.
Fun and funny!
I really like how to the music adds tension! It would be nice to be able to see your previous score on the 'game over' screen. Maybe mix in some words from a 'most commonly used passwords' list into the middle of a code for a bit of humour ever X number of codes.
I tore the place up with Andrew Jackson! Smooth controls.
I love the idea of using the same level and mixing up the mechanics each time, but having to restart from the beginning of the game because I lost time trying to figure out the gimmick of each new level was frustrating. The collisions and controls were fine for me.
Thanks for the comments. The plan was to be able to ceremonially burn what's left of your possessions in the fire. Looking back now, I should have taken an extra day to add more content and submitted to the jam.
Nice mouth sounds! Gets difficult fast. Several tries to get past level 3, gave up on level 4 with no idea what was going on.
Nice idea, like a top-down version of Messiah, but very hard! Sometimes with all the smoke particles I can't tell if I'm possessing something or not.
I won! Good thing the hero didn't have a weapon. The way the screen instantly jumps to the next monster made me think the level was restarting at first - it would be a bit less confusing if it scrolled the view over to the next monster you control.
You're awesome because you made whatever you wanted and stuck an image of a monster on it instead of whining about the theme and dropping out.
The movement feels so good, helped by the excellent animation. I actually liked how the sheep movement made them a bit tricky to catch and you had to circle back for them. The pause while eating felt a bit long and broke the flow - I wanted to be able to do something to speed up that process instead of just waiting.
Well done! Showing the consequences of your actions at the end is great.
Funny and a lot of fun. Died several times before I figured what the 'treats' were (body parts?) that I could eat to restore health. I made so many friends I was standing outside their houses waiting for more. *deek*deek*deek*
Good job! I like the story. Turning with keyboard made aiming frustrating.
Well done! The mood is perfect.
Very cute. I wish it got more difficult as time went on. I like the idea of the plane as the scoreboard.
It would be handy if you added a link back to this rating page from your itch.io page. I found your game from browsing the new games feed there, and the search function here on LD is awful.
