EvolBots (not EvilBots) by vigrid 2012-08-28T21:30:00
I found myself making angry mob noises as I went through the levels. Simple sound but like the 'wub wub wub' noise.

Ooo. I love the graphical style. Very unique.. and I mean that in a good way. Music was nice too.
A bit hard to control though, felt like a space shooter in that respect.
Enjoyed playing. Would have liked feed back on how much I needed to eat to evolve but lots of fun.
Nice intro. Leave Darwin alone purrfectioners.
Liked the way the enemies were evolving rather than the player. Loved the music choice too.
Liked exploring around in the world you created here. Nice puzzled too. Thanks.
Love the feeling of this one. The simplicity of the drum beat and the elegant keyboard when you made it through.
Would have liked the selection change to feel more defined though so I knew I'd made a selection.
Very nice idea. I'd like some feedback on how I'm doing. It's hard for me not just to skip forward and just click everywhere. Maybe a target score or reward system.
Liking this one a lot. You've managed to fit so much into such a small space. Made it feel like a world without needing to make it 'huge'. Love the organ.
Would love it if you could go the other way too, create thunder-storms and general devistation... or is that just wrong of me :)
Great controls. Really cool, simple idea implemented very well.
This made me smile. Thank you :)
I really enjoyed playing through these. Lovely use of the theme and interesting game play.
Wasn't sure what to do at first, or why I was wondering around. Then found out I had to kill people with boxes. Awesomes!
I thought that choosing your descendent would have more impact. When I realised that it didn't matter (apart from the one closet to the action) I enjoyed it more.
Thanks for not making me sit through the story on each play. Much appreciated. Maybe the story could have explained what to do.
Froze on my 3rd / 4th playthrough and I needed to re-load.
Won't run. Windows Vista 32 bit up to date. Shame as the video look.. well.. different :)
Nice idea. I liked it, would be interesting to see where it would go if developed further.
Thanks Doft. I wish it could be longer too. Depending on feedback and workload / life I hope to flesh it out a bit. The 45 degree angle, I changed from top down early on as it was hard to see the puzzles. Thanks for the feedback.
@vigrid - I have updated the game slightly to hopefully make the controls easier to use.
I don't really want to explain the connection to the theme. Think it's fun to let people find out.
@Aceria - could you try the updated link (finished after the compo). Would love to get some feedback on if the updated camera angle - see if that solves the problem.
Just want to say thanks for the comments folks :)
@Zed - I'll be doing some more work on it soon.
@Yumdub - I wish it was 10 levels. Only managed 9 :( More soon.
@azurenimbus - yep, played Edge for the first time the day before the compo.
Really pretty game. Want to see how this continues.
Nice entry. Enjoyed playing but felt I needed some closure at the end but maybe that's just the type of gamer I am. Good pace and mood.
If I died I needed to restart as the jump evolver thingy didn't detect me. Kept getting stuck in walls when I rejoined. Real shame because I can see lots of people getting annoyed and quitting what is a very nicely designed level.
Would love to play it without the bugs and liked the resolution choice.
Yay. Science won. I would have made this but I'm not that brave. I went with a more subtle approach.
Would have liked to see a giant Pope mother-ship boss battle.
Could do with the difficulty ramping up a little when you get to gold and some more variation.
Feels great to play though. Would be great with some music that started relaxed and got more intense as your play.
Nice. Only problem is the graphics threw me a bit.
The ship and invaders had a different style which would be ok but then the astroids were different again.
Fun to play though.
Great concept. If you continue to work on this and bring the player in gradually it I'd love to play it again.
You should put the instructions on this page or in a read-me so people can refer to them as they play as it's quite complex.
One of the best looking games I've played by far and also captured a great mood. Loved the floating head. But I gave up the chase too I'm afraid.
I liked it. A creepy spore.
45 degree movement is where it's at (because I used it too).
Most ambitious game I've played so far.
First kitten game I've had :) Felt nice and solid to play but would liked to have had a bit more of a challenge.
Go go laser cat!
oooo. That made me chuckle lots. Will return to get the true ending. Can't wait to show other people this one.
I'm doing it!
Felt very well thought out, for a prototype. Would like to play a more polished version.
Really ambitious project to take on over 48 hours. Was a bit confused to start with so watched some of the walk through and then got to grips with it. Very nice work.
Liked the mood and I'm a big Zelda fan so points right there for being a 3D Zelda game :)
Did feel like I was just getting lost though. Maybe a few clues as to where to go.
Arg. Why did I choose to play this at midnight. Don't usually go for point and click / hidden object. Maybe you've evolved those genres too.
Playing was fun and I enjoyed bobbing around more than I did trying to upgrade. Nailed the controls totally.
Nice idea. Felt a little clunky but for a 48 hour concept it was good. Enjoyed playing.
Nice idea to start a different evolution + scene each game. You need to play it over and over to enjoy, which is hard to do on Kongregate.
Thanks Wan. Really enjoyed playing through your experiment. Really lovely mood.
*Adds cowbell to all future games*
Nice one.
Thanks for playing, and the feedback.
Going to make a 'post dare' version that it a bit more forgiving so people can get past level 3 if they want to. I'll try and get a video of the whole game up too so you can see where it goes :)
I did most of the testing with keys but it's much easier with a joypad.
If only I had one of those android with a joypad thingies :)
@nintendoeats - Until a few hours to go I had a system of continuing but it was confusing when you beat your high score and came out. Looking back you could continue from the high score page which would allow you to see the whole game.
@reheated - I've edited the game description to add the level names.
Just uploaded a post dare version which allows you to continue and eases level 3... slightly ;)
@recursor - thanks, was sat there all along but linkless. I've just added it.
Great idea. Was sad it was a bit short but feels like a lot of experimentation went on in creating it. A bit buggy and felt sluggish but there's a great game in there waiting to get out.
Great idea. Got 43 once I realized that you can 'cheat' and jump during the tutorial.
Looks pretty too.
He he. Feels like I have control over the world.... I have no control...
Wonderful idea.
Lovely execution of a nice idea. Well done.
Managed to win without the potato. Nice entry and enjoyed playing it. Only frustration was when a block of the wrong colour was hidden behind another.
Wonderfully emotive game. Really enjoyed it.
Yep. It doesn't come much more minimal that that :)
Great use of the theme!
Are those chips! Felt like an art installation only enjoyable. Great work. Spud step needs to be a dance sensation.
Love the mood of this one. First completed game - you rock! Would like it if there was an end.. or at least the promise of one.. mwhu ha har!
Wow. This is hard. Enjoyable though. Nice atmosphere created.
The only this missing was a crib sheet to remember what to mix to create what. The concept is really easy to understand and the feel and music worked really well.
Could have so easily been a ball.. and would have lost all of its charm. The ingredients wouldn't work on paper but you have made them come alive (as they might say on Masterchef). That music shouldn't fit a ball roller... but it does.
Took me a while to work out what was happening and it was perhaps a bit slow paced (for me anyway). However once I'd worked out I enjoyed experimenting with the different patterns.
Fun while it lasted. Could see real potential for making more of this.
Saving this for those stressed out times. Which means I'll be playing a lot. Keeping the controls with just the mouse is great but I did feel I was disturbing the fish with my footsteps.
Your use of shaders is truly inspiring.
Nice idea. Really satisfying to play. Thanks.
Oh! This is fab. That's my evening... gone.
Fly damn you *hammers space*. Once I got the rhythm I really enjoyed it. Got that 'just one more' vibe. The music really works well.
Brilliant idea and use of the theme and well put together too.
Really well put together. Ladies impressed floored me.
Great way to increase the difficulty on an 'endless' game. Wondering how far things go as I could only last until 3 stages of evolution.
With a bit of tweaking this could be awesome. Felt a little bit slippy sometimes but loads of potential.
Thanks for the comments folks. I'll take a look at the jump gravity as a post dare thing.
Really fun to play and some great design. Very nice.
'Think before act' is going to go on the wall of inspiration here at Bumpkin Labs. Very nice.
Hmm. Beer. Love that 10 seconds was the target. Nice objective for a production line game.
Nice graphics. Sound would have really been the cherry on top. Is it chance or always the same outcome (was always the same for me)
Fantastic use of the theme. Felt a little like luck was getting me through, not conserving my feed time and just legging it. Maybe if the enemies weren't random you could increase the difficultly so you can make runs with no sight?
Love the feel of this. Great!
Graphics are wonderful, and the music and world have a really nice quality. Nice use of the theme.
Nice entry. Like the way your trail blocks you in.
Nice idea. Sounds would have really helped with the sense of urgency. Couldn't tell what was 'safe' so there was a bit of trial and error.
Really nice piece. Well done.
Very addicting. Have to get back to work! I did manage to start a level where the red dot was pretty much penned in so wasn't much of a challenge when that happened.
Lovely graphics and concept. Love the guy spinning round on the chair. Found it really hard to control, was more fun to just spin around in the air.
Fantastic for a 48 hour entry. Really enjoyed playing. Thanks.
I saved kittens! Apologies for those I couldn't :(
Nice idea and cool upgrade system. Boat didn't feel very 'boaty' though.
Wahh. So much fun. Would be nice to turn down the particles as the game is hard enough as it is. Felt like they were hiding a really cool game.
