LD19 — Discovery

Epic Spice Quest by feyleaf 2011-01-02T00:42:00

Thank you for the feedback, everybody, so far. This has been the first time I have entered such a large competition with such a short time limit. The experience and everyone's feedback is going to be helpful in the future.

Explaining the glitches:
* The grid and faulty collision were just mistakes. In fact, I don't even know where the problem lies with the tiles showing a line. I tried to increase their scale just slightly to compensate but apparently it didn't work.

* The floating jump was just compensation for time and having a complete fit over faulty collisions. If it makes anyone feel better, you "Discovered" that the character can fly, heh heh.

*Repeating the final level was simply an issue with my map loader, due to rushed completion. More thought will be put into level design in the future.

Future considerations:
*I've heard a few comments about how smooth the gameplay was. That's something positive that I shall keep trying to implement.

*Controls: I am going to pay attention to a player's hand placement on the keyboard. Space bar vs. Enter with Arrow Keys has been mentioned in a review. Mouse handling was giving me trouble on window resize, so I skipped it. I shall learn to compensate mouse positions in the future.

*Challenge: After planning the idea, I really hadn't given enough though to a challenge. Honestly, my nine-year-old can design better levels. Shame on me, it will be more challenging in the future.

*Animation: This was the first completed game in which I animated a walking routine. The frames are still a little weird, but I shall work on that more too.

Return to Custody by feyleaf 2011-09-12T19:58:00

@panzermancer @Rudy @ExciteMike @marudziik Thank you for the feedback. All of your comments are well taken into consideration. I shall make something even better for the next LD competition.

LD22 — Alone

Charlotte Sometimes by hyperlogic 2011-12-19T05:37:00

The best parts of the game were the graphics. The color palette of the flowers contrasts with the monochrome background and main character to more clearly tell the story. The overall game idea seems like an interesting take on the theme. It could benefit from some sound effects, possibly music.

Parcel Walk by feyleaf 2012-01-03T00:41:00

@bentosmile and @jeffz:
thanks for letting me know. openal32.dll has been added to the download zip.

Ejected by Kyrmaal 2011-12-31T06:30:00

It was a good game. A healthy amount of frustration when I took an asteroid to the face so many times, but rewarding enough to stick it out. I liked the surprise plot twists!

We Are Alone by Tifu 2011-12-29T02:41:00

This was an excellent entry!
I liked the unique touches you gave to the characters. It's more of an immersion into the game. That feeling when I have lost a few characters and I have to choose to send a child out into the frozen mountain to brave the elements. There's something really special about that.
Also, no spoilers here, but the ending was super rewarding.

Long Walk Home by JAH2488 2011-12-19T05:19:00

The first time I played it, I thought that the game was super-short, but the second time around it proved to be a bit deeper. It seems like there is a lot going on, but I spent a lot of time waiting for a jump to charge. This has potential to be an awesome game, if it contained some sounds, music, and a bit of guidance for the player at the start.

LD23 — Tiny World

Secrets of The Universe by Hazematman 2012-04-26T03:20:00

That was great! Really intense at the end when my life was already dwindling.

Tondie and Zupe by Cosmologicon 2012-04-24T04:07:00

I liked the characters you presented, and their relationship.

YinYang Temple by ineap09 2012-04-26T02:49:00

This was an awesome start. Please make more.

Everlasting by feyleaf 2012-04-26T16:22:00

@dansludumdare, I had learned allegro first, then found SFML. I find it TONS easier to use than allegro. Sorry, but I have never looked into SDL.
Also, thank you for the comments, and glad you enjoyed the game and the music.

Faelanx by arkeus 2012-04-26T03:01:00

Awesome entry! I could play this game all week! I love the use of color and the smooth movement of everything on the screen. So much to look at, but it's not overwhelming.

Tinysaur by leksapeksa 2012-04-24T20:29:00

It works fine for me in Firefox.
I thought it was a great concept! Very smooth gameplay.

River Runner by omaha 2012-04-24T04:16:00

Great job! This game was totally fun, and also quite a challenge. Your voxel work makes it something outstanding.

The Littlest War by poe 2012-04-26T02:27:00

It was a pretty good experience. The mechanic took a minute There was a glitch in the battle vs. red, where my ranger attacked, and the game just locked up and began constantly repeating the attack sound.

Tiny Defenders by Raptor85 2012-04-24T04:26:00

This game was amazing! I love the mechanic, a nice version of tower defense.

This is a tiny world. by bombpersons 2012-04-26T02:15:00

I had a lot of fun playing this! My favorite part was shooting in multiple directions and jumping at the same time.

Mini Marauders! by Blinked 2012-04-26T02:20:00

Good job! This was really fast-paced, and I ended up dying pretty quickly the first few plays. All told, I had fun with this game!

LD24 — Evolution

Evoltus by tlaine 2012-08-29T20:57:00

This was pretty fun. I liked the victory road map. The whole bit with evolving the character and getting better the more you perform actions was a good mechanic. Well done. Thank you for giving the option to turn off music.

Bots Vs Fleshbags by vicethal 2012-08-29T01:23:00

I understood the concept, and that is a strong positive when trying these games. Keep up the effort :)
This kept my interest through several battles, but the game crashed right before the end. I was hoping for some variety in the battlefield backgrounds or maybe a screen setting up the story.

DrumBeat Evolution!!!! by Crushenator 2012-08-29T20:11:00

This is a fun drum loop machine. I liked it, and might play with it again.

It Will Grow by madameberry 2012-08-31T18:09:00

This is a fun little game. I liked it a lot, spent about an hour playing around. I found almost half of the combinations, and spent 95 years doing so. The direction is a little unintuitive, and I would have liked to be able to differentiate the seeds of one plant from seeds of others. That point was probably what made it hardest, even though I had a big collection of seeds sorted in the storage box.
I'll probably play it again some time, still hopeful for that precious Golden Fruit. :)

Evilution by A R Siddek 2012-08-29T20:28:00

It's a solid attempt. The game mechanic is a clever take on the theme, and the challenge seemed appropriate. I would have liked to see more mazes.

CellAnt by Bzaraticus 2012-08-29T05:24:00

I gave it a chance, but didn't really figure out what it was I was supposed to do.
The autonomous ants were pleasing to watch for a while.

E-Volution By Vagabond by VagabondEx 2012-08-29T20:16:00

It's definitely something I hadn't seen before. It was alright experimenting with different calculations.

Aniee by dacap 2012-08-29T01:06:00

It's a poetic slideshow with compelling audio and visuals.

Kings of the Archipelago by feyleaf 2012-09-01T18:10:00

Yes, I am working on a post-compo version. Thank you everyone for the compliments on my graphics.

Advancer by Knighty 2012-08-31T01:25:00

This game deserves some serious kudos! I enjoyed playing it so much once I figured out that you're -supposed- to start as a white square on a black background. The final iteration reminds me a lot of Alex Kidd or Wonder Boy in Monster Land or something from Sega 8-bit era that conjures really fond memories.

The Legend of Elzad by arkeus 2012-08-28T00:14:00

I loved it! Scouring the map for everything made it a lot of fun. The game has a really good feel, the colors and graphics were cool, the flute effects and particles all worked together well. This is the third of your entries that I've played (Arzea and Faelanx are the others) and I gotta say each new one gets more enthralling and addictive to play.

The Darwinizer by Steven Colling 2012-08-31T18:26:00

This game was alright, I finished it without really having to grab any genes from the yellow orange or red dinos, though. Thus the end felt a little unfulfilling. If the game were a little longer and it didn't feel like it was prodding me forward, I probably would have experimented more with the gene combining/dino slaying.

Evolutionary Chocolatier by davidwparker 2012-08-29T21:11:00

There is no doubt I like this game, because who doesn't like chocolate!? Heh heh, very clever concept for this Ludum Dare.

Cave Creature by defiantburrito 2012-08-29T01:59:00

Starting off was a little challenging, but exploring the world map was rather breathtaking. My character didn't last very long before being clobbered, but the game is worth another play through later to see how far I can go.

One Last Chance by recursive frog 2012-09-01T02:19:00

This was really cool. I ran it on my Droid Pro, which is a little outdated and has crummy screen resolution. Due to other hardware problems, the scene kept flipping around and jumping, but I'll assume my character was just drunk.
But seriously, the game seems like a solid start to something that could work well. It's interesting to be on the phone on a game on my phone!

Dissolution by Sergey Mohov 2012-08-31T14:35:00

I only played the 48-hour version, so that's what I am judging.

I was a little bit lost in the game, not knowing what the things were that I was picking up, and dying the first time through. It also ends abruptly, before I even had time to figure out what was going on. I understand you wanted to fit a certain mood, but I'm sorry that I didn't find it.
I wish you the best in the future for this game and others.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Maiden Muncher Hero Cruncher by solidplasma 2012-12-17T04:07:00

The concept is really cool. This game was pretty good, even though I didn't finish. I'll try again later, though.
I enjoyed summoning the swirling vortex in the second stage, very nice idea!

LD26 — Minimalism

Anthead RPG by Peter 2013-04-29T16:59:00

I've spent so much time on this RPG. It's tough to put down :)

Occam's Razor by Hayawi 2013-04-30T20:22:00

Oh my...That death made me jump a little.

My Hair Is On Fire by Ofursnati 2013-04-29T17:01:00

It's pretty good, simple and unexpected.

A trial by blood and fire by nilstastic 2013-04-30T20:31:00

Not a bad puzzle-platformer. One thing I noticed is the little person double-jumps into the upper space beyond the ceiling often. I liked the different effects and the gradual learning curve. It felt good.

Zenboy by feyleaf 2013-04-30T19:53:00

Odd is usually my Ludum Dare style. Thanks for commenting, I shall take it as a compliment.
The water is to flush out sand completely.

DHRDR by johnste 2013-04-30T20:02:00

Very cool. It reminded me of those 'sticky hands' from old UFO-catchers. I liked it, and finished the game. Clever use of the theme, as well. ^_^

LD27 — 10 Seconds

10 Seconds to Clear by Foxtacy 2013-08-27T00:44:00

Wow, this was surprisingly immersive. I found myself getting frustrated but in a good way. Thanks

RainbowBlock by Zaelza 2013-08-31T03:04:00

This game made me smile a LOT. Great going!

Run Buddy by PizzaPranks 2013-08-27T10:29:00

This was pretty good. Reminded me of DLC Quest mixed with Jetpack Joyride. I would have liked it if the collision was a little more accurate, but after a number of tries, I did get Run Buddy home. :)

Teenage Dream by ploe 2013-09-03T02:57:00

Wow, this was an intense experience. I mean physically exhausting. Well done!

What just happened? by solidplasma 2013-08-31T00:27:00

It worked well with the theme, I found myself saying the title a lot. Really great job making procedural minigames!

Combat Time!! by Sheepolution 2013-08-27T10:36:00

This is a great idea! Took a second to really 'get it' but that's a game I think I have never played before. Also, the graphics and music are cool. Keep up the good work ^_^

Korrod by eelfroth 2013-08-27T00:18:00

I'm sorry, the screen was just a strobe-light. I heard sounds but nothing happened and it was giving me a headache...(on Windows 7)

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Duck & Cover by Adam Gould 2014-04-28T16:49:00

This was invigorating. Some of the later levels stumped me for a few tries. Good music, good puzzle-solving mechanic. Really kept me on my toes with the ceiling of doom being timed just perfectly in each level. Keep up the good work ^_^

Eskimo Run by locknic 2014-04-28T13:00:00

Very smooth running, and a bit of a challenge. There ought to be more games with this guy as the villain! Outstanding idea!
