I REALLY enjoyed playing this. I always love survival games and the use of the multiple people made a game with minimal graphics and bright colors feel bleak and hopeless. The sense of terror while being chased by wolves, or the panic driven desperation of hunting for health while watching your status bar slowly tick to nothing made the game a winner in my mind. I've played a lot of the other entries on here, and none of the better animated or prettier games have the terrible sense of loneliness that this one achieved. My vote by far!

Phew ! After a few map generations, I'v finally managed to beat the game, I really enjoyed it overall, it was a nice experience.

Restrictive visuals and oppressive atmosphere, with quite a few mysteries ton unveil. The footprints and multicharacters idea works really great, it helps to construct a mental image of the landscape before getting the map. The only think the game lacks is a music, or sound ambiance in general (like some random 8 bit wind) : though it might be on purpose to accentuate the harshness of the game, I think it could have helped the player to immerse in the bland setting.

The exploration in itslef made me think of a more quick and edgy version of japanese games like Yume Nikki and derived fangames. The good thing here is that the map is generated randomly each time, inducing strong replay value, and the many items serve a definite purpose to unlock the endgame.

Well done !

That was good !
The footprint idea is really good, and well executed, you do really feel alone in this one,
However I found the lack of music or at least wind like Gen said, really lacking, and after two death (I'm a noob) I didn't have the courage to retry, I got to the pendant and then I didn't know what to do,

The wolves were a great addition : I always thought I could dodge them, but they always catch me in the end :)

great job, as others have said, I also loved the permanent footprints.

Great game and you made me feel alone in the mountains ;)

The concept is fantastic! With a bit more solid engine this could go so very very far!

I wish it worked in Wine... :( Is there anything I can use to compile that BMX file for Ubuntu?

tifu 2011-12-24 13:25

Thanks for the comments everyone =D

@Pitzik4: It was coded in Blitzmax, which apparently can compile to Windows/MacOS/Linux, but I can't compile to the other systems without running that system myself it seems - if you don't mind the effort, you could probably download the Blitzmax trial version and compile it yourself, sorry about that D:

Hello again ;)
@Pitzik4: It worked fine for me with wine.
I use openSuse 11.4, kernel 2.6.37.6-0.9, with wine version 1.3.32 and OpenGL 2.1 Mesa 7.10.2. Hope that could help someone :)
To bad Blitzmax don't offer a trail version for linux ;/

Oh my bad, I just assumed they did because... well, why the heck wouldn't they? Bleh :(

This was an excellent entry!
I liked the unique touches you gave to the characters. It's more of an immersion into the game. That feeling when I have lost a few characters and I have to choose to send a child out into the frozen mountain to brave the elements. There's something really special about that.
Also, no spoilers here, but the ending was super rewarding.

That's very well done. I loved the concept of having multiple different characters that can literally follow in the footsteps of each other. I also liked that the final scene is different depending on the character you're playing with.

The game was a bit on the easy side, though - you didn't even bother putting in a losing screen ;-)

Great first LD22 entry!

Wow, this is one of the best I've seen so far!

defiantburrito 2012-01-09 06:10

This was pretty fun! I wish there were more. :)

Could have used better sound and more polish all around.

I really like that there are different characters, it would be cool if they had like different special abilities or something.

Great job!
