LD22 — Alone

The Last Adventurer by Cosmologicon 2011-12-19T06:25:00

Good job! Sort of like Battlehearts.. I like your cute bouncing head guys.

I have some weird framerate stalls in Firefox, not sure what that's about.

I just made my guys roam around in a pack rather than trying to manage them individually. Then it was kind of frustrating trying to click on them. So that didn't work out too well.

It was frustrating trying to pick up the little orbs.

Not sure how well it fits the theme... I read the comments on your web page and I like that you went for mechanics rather than plot, unfortunately you aren't really "alone" for most of the game so it still doesn't seem to fit for me.

Still, not bad for 2 days :)

Leave my Lettuce Alone :( by NeiloGD 2012-01-09T09:08:00

I like the unusual graphics style.

The gameplay is also pretty unusual. I think it's a neat idea. I'm impressed with the flocking behavior.

Sadly, the game isn't too fun for me. I just got bored after 6 levels or so. It needs something else I think.

Overall, good job!

The Unfortunate State of Being Alone by youdonotexist 2012-01-09T09:52:00

What a weird, dark game.

I kind of want to rate it poorly because I didn't really like how it turned out. On the other hand, I kind of want to rate it highly because it's one that I'll remember...

The word puzzles were a bit obscure, glad you had the answers posted. :)

I like the walk animation, it's silly.

Very unique, good job!

Not/Alone by davecheesefish 2011-12-19T06:34:00

Has kind of a cool mood and look, but not much else going for it... sorry. It might be more fun if it were faster?

AB-ALONE by SonnyBone 2011-12-19T06:50:00

Link doesn't work

An Empty Room by Cosr 2011-12-19T06:57:00

I actually really like this, I wish it had some point to it though. It's almost more of an interactive art project than a game. (Not that that's a bad thing necessarily.)

I like your graphics, but there are so few of them that I can't give you very many stars for it.

Alone by Gwinnell 2011-12-19T06:59:00

Better luck next time!

Solitas Exodae by Gaeel 2011-12-19T07:06:00

Very cool atmosphere. Liked the music.
Jumping was fun.
Not much game, though.

Good job!

Worst Birthday Ever by sol_hsa 2011-12-19T07:42:00

At first I was like, "WTF is this crap?"
After a minute it kind of grew on me, despite (because of?) the awful graphics. It has a certain charm.
I really like this take on the "Alone" theme.
I almost think it would be better if there wasn't an ending, and you were just doomed to sit there waiting forever...
Pretty good for something that was obviously just thrown together quickly. Good job!

Never Alone Hotline by Pierrec 2011-12-19T08:07:00

I liked it!
Cute story, cute characters.
I would have liked it more if it were less silly and had more of a plot.
Still, very charming!

In the Ruins of R'lyeh by jfroco 2012-01-09T10:00:00

This seems well made, with decent graphics and audio. I just don't think it's that fun, sorry. It was frustrating to try to bounce the boulders off the walls and I quit.

Still, good job making a game in 2 days!

Lonely Adventures of Al Oneman by invaderJim 2011-12-19T07:24:00

Neat idea, but not enough there to be a game, really.

Cave Wanderer by GreaseMonkey 2011-12-19T08:22:00

Well, it's impressive that you did this at all!

I'm not sure what else to say, though. The game doesn't really have a lot going for it.

I would give you some points for Graphics because the little guy's rotating feet were cute, but I have to take away a point for the garish green background. ;)

I don't really understand why you hate XNA so much... did it kill your parents?

Dwarven Isolation by Milo 2012-01-09T08:57:00

Neat idea, but not so fun in practice. I feel like nothing I place really works, because I don't know where the dwarves will go.

I like the audio. It was all worth it for that "BOOM!" :)

Good job!

The Lonely Island by Bezza 2011-12-20T22:33:00

Cute little game. Looking at your blog, I kinda wish you had left him as a stick figure!

Pretty similar to "Lonely Island - sanojian", but I won't hold that against you. :)
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-22/?action=preview&uid=7542

Good job!

A Life Apart by MagnesiumNinja 2012-01-08T09:15:00

I liked this.

The best part was the poetry-like writing and atmosphere. Some melancholy music would have enhanced this even further. I appreciate that you were thoughtful about the theme.

The gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. There could have been more you could do with the fire, and maybe other mechanics to play with besides walking and jumping. I was playing for the story, not because I was having fun.

Overall, a very good entry!

Leaf me Alone by AyCe 2012-01-09T09:32:00

Good job! The gameplay here is pretty cool. Reminds me of Plants vs. Zombies a little bit, but you have to manually use each plant.

I don't know if it fits the theme that well.

I like the graphics, simple and clear.

Minicraft by Notch 2011-12-19T06:40:00

Great job!

I can't give you many points for Innovation considering it's exactly like Minecraft.

Still, I'm very impressed with how much you got done.

Richter's Party by condr 2011-12-20T11:19:00

This definitely has some potential, but the mechanics needed more work. The wall jumping doesn't work sometimes. The controls feel "floaty" at times due to the momentum, and it seems like you fall too fast. Overall a solid try, keep it up!

Beat the Dragon by Gear 2012-01-09T08:52:00

Pretty hard until I learned a few tricks.

Once I got it, not a whole lot of gameplay. But it was still pretty fun and it was a good idea.

I liked your dragon art and the other little characters.

Rectangle Dude in a Bombed Building by tsaxi 2011-12-19T06:49:00

I love your little Cartman guy. He walks super slow, but for some reason he can jump really high?

The game is awful, but funny and charming. Good job.

/follow by 01101101 2011-12-20T21:59:00

The art and music are really fantastic, some of the best I've seen so far.
The gameplay and plot seem pretty redundant after a couple levels, it could have used a bit more depth and variation.
Still, a very solid entry!

Lost in the Woods by ratboy2713 2012-01-08T08:28:00

I actually quite liked this!

I like the low-key guitar music.

Art was not great, but not terrible for 2 days.

The puzzles were not really designed that well, it seemed a bit arbitrary. In a good point-and-click game, you have to use reason and common sense to figure out what to do. This is like, "Oh there's dynamite in the car. And tree sap next to it. I guess that did something." The random deaths were random. But it was still fun enough.

Good job!

Alone ?! by SamuraiofHoly 2011-12-20T10:57:00

Not bad for a first game. I liked jumping around. It could use a bit more variation in the mechanics, and I ran into a few bugs. The music was nice.

Good job!

Va Unan by cobhc6 2012-01-08T07:47:00

Game worked fine for me (web version).
Unfortunately I found this to be really boring and kind of tedious to play, so I didn't get very far. You walk SO slowly... I screwed up on the second gate too many times and quit because I was tired of walking around.

Graphics and mood are pretty cool, but it could have used some more contrast in the color scheme.

Music got annoying after enough repetitions.

The End by 2A1S 2012-01-09T07:09:00

I finished the game. Having to open your inventory to use items is annoying, and it seemed like sometimes I used items by accident when I clicked.

The game is OK, but it seems kind of pointless. There isn't much strategy involved, just fight the guys one at a time and then use health packs.

The graphics are good!

For only 2 days, good job!

Alone in the park by iforce2d 2012-01-08T09:03:00

Pretty fun! Those rotating legs creep me out, I may have nightmares about those. I also wish there were more mechanics and more stuff to do. Good job!

Space Station 1: No Program by kibertoad 2012-01-09T08:36:00

Pretty neat idea, but it isn't that fun and becomes pointless quickly. I wish there were some ending (multiple endings?) or some other goal.

Robot Armageddon! by Raptor85 2012-01-08T07:15:00

Pretty fun, this is way too hard for me though! I only made it to level 2. :(

The Place by Snuffypot11 2012-01-09T06:51:00

Not a bad first entry.

I was a little bored just walking through tunnels, I wish there was more to do other than walk around and collect keys.

The music was pretty awful, but better than nothing.

The 2.5d effect is cool, and the ending was pretty funny (if cheesy).

One Of A Kind by DDRKirby(ISQ) 2012-01-09T05:26:00

I think this is quite good!

I was afraid it would be yet another 2d platformer with frustrating jumping, but the puzzle mechanic is actually quite original (at least as far as I know), and it worked quite well.

I like the simple music, and the minimalist art style works very well for this game.

Great job!

The Lone Adventurer by harusame 2012-01-09T04:54:00

The art is great!

The jumping physics don't feel right, it's very annoying.

Not a lot going on with the gameplay, just a basic platformer.

It doesn't seem to fit the theme all that well.

The music was OK, but it was annoying that it restarted for each level.

I couldn't read what the guy was saying, it was too dark.

Good job!

One May Pass by binarycoder 2012-01-09T04:44:00

Pretty good game, I love the idea of using your dead clones as the puzzle mechanics.

The graphics and sound are nothing awesome, but simplicity is appropriate for this type of game so it works.

Not sure it fits the theme that well (seems more like the OPPOSITE of Alone to me), but if it inspired you, great.

I can see myself buying a game like this on my iPhone if there were more levels and a few more mechanics.

Leave Me Alone. Never Leave Me Alone. by whilefun 2012-01-09T08:43:00

Kind of a neat take on the theme, but sadly it's not very fun. I like your sounds. I liked coughing to keep people away from me.

Follow by Pixelbear 2011-12-20T11:10:00

Very cool graphics and audio... sets the mood really well. I like the subtle gradient effect around your character.

I couldn't figure out how to open the gate. The puzzles are too obscure, it's hard to even see what I can click on since everything is grey. I got annoyed and gave up.

Lonely Island by sanojian 2011-12-20T10:26:00

I died once, and completed it on my second try. I didn't get the hunger/water/energy mechanic at first. It seems like you only regain energy if you move around?

I thought this was pretty fun, even though it was pretty simple.

I liked the weird voice!

Good job!

Sociophobia by cappelnord 2012-01-09T07:29:00

I really like your art style!

This is a neat idea for a game. I like your take on the theme.

Dodging nosy people is kind of fun, but the killing seems unnecessary. I think I would like it better if there were more clever ways to distract people so you could get by them. Like: drop a dirty magazine like in Metal Gear Solid, or, I don't know, set off a fire alarm.

It would also be neat if there was a little bit of story. Instead of just "1, 2, 3, 4", it could have easily been like, "I'm at work, but I don't want to talk to anybody today. I have to check my computer, then make a copy, then drop off the copy at someone's desk, then go home."

Overall, good work!

Lonely Star by Dietrich Epp 2012-01-08T08:44:00

This is pretty cool! As far as I know, this is a pretty unique and innovative game - luring an enemy to his/her death with a shiny object. :) I like it.

It's not actually all that fun, unfortunately. It can be really frustrating to get the AI to do what you want, and it feels a little too frantic. The gameplay and level design probably just needs some more refinement.

The graphics are pretty cool, I love the hand-drawn look of the background and clouds. The stick figure guys look very natural and fun when they move. I wish the actual tiles that the levels are made out of had the same art style as the background.

No sound :(

Overall, good job!

We Are Alone by Tifu 2012-01-09T06:10:00

This was pretty fun! I wish there were more. :)

Could have used better sound and more polish all around.

I really like that there are different characters, it would be cool if they had like different special abilities or something.

Great job!

Goodbye by elektron 2012-01-09T05:11:00

Wow, I am so annoyed!

*SPOILERS!* So I jump past all these spikes, just for the guy to kill himself at the end by jumping on spikes? Really? *END SPOILERS*

Anyway, pretty decent little platformer, not much innovative here but the sound and graphics do a good job of conveying a mood. So good job!

Head South by MurrayL 2012-01-09T06:33:00

This is pretty strange, but also neat. I kind of wish there were more of a game, and a better ending. But I like your weird graphical style, the music, and the mood... I think my favorite part was the beginning where you get kicked out of the village. I had some weird issues with invisible walls blocking my progress, but nothing that I couldn't figure out.

Good job!

Enslaving Davement by Sean Hogan (anodyne/even the ocean) 2012-01-08T08:09:00

The sound/music is quite charming!

I don't really like the anxiety mechanic. If I make any mistakes during the platforming, I'm doomed to fail because of the time limit, so I just wait for the clock to run down. Then I have to do the whole level again because I missed one stupid jump. It's too frustrating.

The plot and theme of the game wasn't really funny to me, it was just... weird. So I would call that a miss.

Still, the platforming mechanics were pretty solid and the graphics weren't terrible, so overall a decent entry. Good job!

Planet Earth Is Blue by Adhesion 2012-01-09T08:10:00

Pretty good. The spinning made me dizzy at first, but I got used to it. It felt a little tedious and un-fun to fight the enemies, so most of the game was kind of boring. I liked the boss at the end, though! The music was nice.

Alone in the universe by ddr2 2011-12-20T10:52:00

It seems like I can just leave the game running, and I will eventually get points on my own just by getting lucky. I kind of wonder what the point is.

The mechanic is a neat idea, but it's not that fun for me. Mostly, it's annoying to position the little things with the keyboard.

I like the music.

Alone in the Crane by evilindiegames 2011-12-20T10:42:00

I think it's a pretty creative idea to use Tetris mechanics to build stairs, so I gave you some points for that. Unfortunately it didn't end up being all that fun. The character graphics are pretty good, but the lighting/background was very annoying. Overall, not too bad, but not too good either. I liked the music and silly voices.

Duckling by Veralos 2012-01-09T04:34:00

Pretty good game, but I think it's too hard.

One frustrating thing is that most of the difficulty comes from timing the jumps exactly right... if I press the jump button too early, nothing happens, but too late and I miss the jump. It makes me feel like I'm fighting the controls more than the game. The S-shape of feathers is a good example of this, the only thing that makes it challenging is the finicky controls.

Still, it feels pretty complete and the art is decent, so I'd say this is a pretty good entry.

Good work!

.Journey to Polygonia by sythe 2011-12-20T22:12:00

Not bad. I like the music, I like the triangle's little moving feet. I like your slighly random level design.

Once the game got hard it stopped being fun. The controls are too floaty for the game to work as a challenging platformer.

Still, nice job!

G is for Grue, likely to eat you by veloc1 2012-01-09T07:47:00

Pretty cool, good scary atmosphere with the shrinking light. I couldn't really tell what made the light shrink, I thought it was some game mechanic that I didn't understand but I think it's just random. I wish there were more to the game.

I tried going down deeper, made it to level 11 and nothing happened... I was hoping for an alternate ending or something.

Good job!

5 Little People by Lixels 2011-12-20T10:31:00

This is pretty buggy and hard to play. The sound hurts my ears. It seems like playing as 5 people at once is sort of the opposite of "Alone", so I can't even give you points for the theme. Not sure what else to say, better luck next time!

Tyranny by devwil 2011-12-20T21:48:00

Cute, but it's kind of a gimmick isn't it? Still, good work for what it is. :)

LD24 — Evolution

Primordial Pool by ben657 2012-08-28T07:35:00

It's kind of frustrating when an enemy spawns on you and you immediately shrink.

The followers seem kinda useless.

It's weird that when two blobs are about equal size, the slightly larger one immediately absorbs the smaller one.

Nice work, I can definitely see this being expanded on.

Urban Sprawl by TheGamingProject 2012-08-28T07:13:00

I like the idea of making a town in a random environment. I think you could have done a better job of making the environment affect how you build the town, though.

I didn't really get the strategy, it seemed like each building had some cost over time, but I couldn't tell how much it was. So it was hard to use much strategy.

End Humanity! by SFX 2012-09-17T05:20:00

This was one of the most fun games I've played so far. I think keeping your idea small worked to your advantage. :)

The upgrades were fun, but I would have liked a bit more variety in the types of upgrades I could get. (For example, a spread/multishot upgrade, or better cocoon armor, or whatever.)

Graphics are OK for the time spent. :) Graphics aren't too important in a game like this.

Impressed that you had any music at all, I didn't have time for anything.

Good work!

Evo by DaveDobson 2012-08-28T06:52:00

Pretty fun! Reminds me of Lemmings quite a bit. I think this is a pretty solid puzzle mechanic - I feel like you could make a lot of levels out of this. Good work!

Dragonom by Kinokochan 2012-08-28T07:03:00

The art is pretty cool. What a cute little dragon!

Not a very fun game, though. Most of the game was waiting for my mana bar to refill.

Seed Feed by rhaasken 2012-09-17T04:15:00

Nice and relaxing, nice music. Not that much fun, though. :) Good work.

The Last Creationist by ubear 2012-09-07T05:16:00

Funny, cute game. It doesn't seem like it's implemented that well, as the controls are sketchy and there are a few glitches. Still, nice work.

Garbage Man: Return to Earth [HD] by nicholi 2012-09-07T05:10:00

This was pretty fun, and I love the music. I don't really think it has anything to do with evolution, though.

It might be cool if there were a few more items you could pick up. Also, it would be nice if you could move items around once they are on your "ship".

Defend The Galaxy by lbrande 2012-08-28T14:49:00

Not a bad start, but the gameplay is a bit too simple. It's frustrating to aim at the circles. Not sure where the Evolution theme is.

Cat Evolution! by Mamick 2012-08-28T05:57:00

It's a bit hard to get into, but I figured it out and beat the whole thing.

I like the idea of killing individual cats, but I never wanted to do it. First of all, I hate the idea of killing my own cats, even in a silly game. If they were worms or beetles, it might work better. Second, the gameplay is just too slow and tedious if you are trying to individually pick off cats. If you want killing weak individuals to be part of the gameplay, maybe each level needs to be smaller/shorter and the mechanic needs to be easier to read.

I think the ideas in here are pretty good though, and I love this take on the Evolution theme. Good work!

Evo by nseward 2012-08-28T05:31:00

Nice music. I like the graphics and how the robot morphs.

I don't think it's that fun, though. I don't really like the puzzles, I found it a bit frustrating.

CellAnt by Bzaraticus 2012-08-28T06:38:00

I think this is pretty neat, and I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately it's very confusing, and I don't think the game design quite works.

It's too hard to select individual ants once you get more than a handful, and it's way too hard to keep track of which ant is leveling which stats.

I ended up leveling Reproduction first (because digging is boring, and you can't seem to level Attacking without other ants to fight) and I quickly ended up with WAY too many ants... they proceeded to multiply until my framerate died.

Maybe there should be a food limit or something that limits how many ants you can have, and it would also help if there were a better way of keeping track of your ants.

Sustenance by pardue 2012-09-17T04:02:00

Trying to blend in is a cool idea, but the game becomes dull very quickly. I stayed alive for 5-6 minutes or so, and was left with a feeling of "Why did I keep playing for so long?" :)

Good job on the execution, I just wish it had a bit more to it.

A Story of a Tree by Rami Bokhari 2012-08-28T06:14:00

I think using sound effects you didn't make yourself is against the rules.

Did this seed fall from space? I don't get it.

Not a lot of gameplay or fun going on here.

Those Stupid Aliens by LoneStranger 2012-09-07T05:00:00

I like the graphics, especially the scrolling stars.

The game itself is a bit boring, just seems like a clickfest to me. I didn't notice the enemies evolving really. It seems pretty random whether I get hit or not, because I can't really dodge.

Robot wars by laaph 2012-09-17T04:22:00

I'm not really sure how to rate this. It's kind of neat, but the interactivity is so minimal that it's almost not really a game. It's pretty buggy, also. Good take on the theme, but I'm not sure it works that well as a game.

The SuperBugs by Josh @ Dreamland 2012-09-07T04:51:00

I found 3 weapons and beat the game.

The particle effects and character animation were pretty cool (given the time limit), but the game design could use some work.

- The level was large and confusing, with no real purpose. It just seemed sort of random.
- Combat wasn't too fun (except seeing the crazy particles from the flamethrower). The enemies were too annoying to bother killing, and I mostly just ran past them.
- The complex evolution thing you described seems like a waste, because I totally didn't notice it when I was playing. (Probably because I wasn't killing the enemies.) I bet it was fun to code, but I don't think it worked very well in terms of gameplay.

Still, good work!

ThroughoutTheAges by sampyxis 2012-08-28T07:24:00

I was wondering why my health bar wasn't centered... turns out I had -250 health and the game was rendering my negative hit points off to the left.

I'm not really sure what to make of this, it seems very buggy and unfinished, and I'm not sure what it's supposed to be. Sorry.

Omega Architecture by kibertoad 2012-09-17T04:53:00

Really great job.

I didn't really get the evolution strategy... it seemed like I pretty much evolved stuff at random, and eventually I won. I never figured out how to put points into Heat/Cold resistance or any other changes/upgrades, but apparently it didn't matter that much. Overall, the strategy aspect seemed pretty half-baked, but there is definitely some potential here.

Love the music and story.

Place of Origin by evilseanbot 2012-08-28T04:46:00

I really liked the atmosphere of this game. The theme really appealed to me, and it had a certain artistic appeal even though the graphics weren't that good. I also love what you did with the music, how it sounds between the two worlds.

However, there were some technical issues that bothered me, like seams in the artwork, etc. The movement feels really good once you are moving fast, but it's so frustratingly sluggish when you start moving. I wish the minimum speed was just tuned up a bit.

I don't really see the "Evolution" theme in here at all.

Human Evolution by emveyh 2012-08-27T19:07:00

Nice game, a bit simple, but very enjoyable. :)
