The evolution of Blocky by Digitalduck 2012-08-27T08:04:00
Cool, if a bit simple, game. The ending and graphics are great, and I like how the computer kinda has an image of the game itself.

I got to the third level, but it was really difficult. Half of the problem was intended difficulty, the other half was because my character repeatedly froze in midair for fractions of second and glitched through blocks. Good idea though, and I love impossible games.
It was really laggy for me, but nice mechanic. A bit to hard at the beginning and easy/slow at the end, but great idea and very medetative.
Pretty good platforming controls and graphics! I didn't really understand what was going on, but that might be the point.
A bit easy, but fun anyway. Repeatedly pressing a movement key gets a bit tiring though
Some instructions and less popups would be nice. I had no idea what I was doing. Nice music though, and your idea is pretty cool.
Maybe I didn't play it right, but it seemed very slow paced in terms of gaining points and I had to wait around a lot to regenerate. It's was fun though, and a great idea with a good amount of upgrades.
Also, this is nitpicking, but the hitting enemies was a bit awkward and the upgrade text hurt my eyes.
Cool simple mechanic! The gameplay gets a bit boring and slow, and I fell like you could do more with it. Somewhat addictive and a good game.
Interesting concept of evolution and nice music. It could be better, yes, but I can see where you were trying to go.
This is my first LD (though I've been programming for a long white), and I found that using GameMaker really made things easier, so maybe consider using something other than java?
Good idea, but boring battles really hamper the game (maybe a fast forward button would fix things). The drawings are cool, but you may have been trying to do to much in too little time.
The game looks interesting, but it could use some instructions. What was I supposed to do? What do the different dot arrangements mean? I just got the algae and kept winning. Was I supposed to get other stuff?
Fun to play with. Would be cool to know the rules and how you managed to come up with them. My LD entry is somewhat based on cellular automata and it was really hard to come up with deterministic rules, so I eventually gave up and randomized.
Do you have any advice on what isn't clear? I had a lot of trouble writing the instructions because it's a pretty complicated game.
Yeah, I didn't really have time to check for typos, check the difficulty, or refine monolith placement. I'll probably have a post-compo build within the next few days though.
A bit easy, but a very fun game. I got a null pointer exception at entity.Warrior.update<Warrior.java:60> though. Also lagged a bit.
Pretty good. Could use some more animations, but the graphics, sound, and gameplay were solid. It may just be my irritation at accidentally quitting when trying to pause, but the progression seemed a bit slow and i never got to a point where my DNA gain notable increased.
Fantastic game! I played it so many times until I could beat your team (Me;5;8;10;13;13;1;b44e3). Watching battles got a bit tiring though, and a fast forward button might be nice.
Absolutely stunning music and graphics, but mediocre gameplay. It might have been a good idea to spend the remaining 24 hours on gameplay.
Cool evolutions. I wasn't entirely sure what was going on. I ran into the same bug repeatedly and became a butterfly eventually? What are the differences between the evolutions?
I love the ending, and the rest of it was pretty good. I think applying the theme to this is a stretch though.
Interesting idea and good world building. The setting and plot might be a bit cliché, but it is one of my favourites, so I'm fine with it.
Most of the writing communities I’ve been a part of breed incredibly unfair amounts of criticism, so I wouldn’t take what I say next personally. The writing itself is far above average, but it could be improved somewhat. Some typos and choppiness mar what could be (and almost is) a great atmospheric piece of writing, though that may be because of time constraints. The beginning doesn't really draw me in either. Still, great work.
Sidenote: we're allowed to fix typos and grammatical/stylistic mistakes might be considered typos, so would you be allowed to change huge amounts of your game?
Great concept! I've never played a strategy game like this, and it's a refreshing idea! It does get a bit easy; i currently have about 400k of each resource. Fun building mechanic, and seeing hundreds of tanks firing at once is really fun. I didn't really get much "evolution" though.
Nice art, though the wobbling made things a bit confusing. I was also drawn in by the word "notch."
I love the shifting mechanic and would love to see more of it. I don't really see the 'evolution' either though.
Interesting plot, but I really hated the clicking radiation minigame (expecially how it just suddenly appears without warning). The circle world thing was really cool though and I feel that you could do a lot more with it.
