i agree with khaotom.
i was about to write an anti-level design rant (and still may) after playing a number of other LD48 entries, and then i play this game and its greatest strength is satisfying level design.
the story/connection to the theme was kind of unsatisfying to me, though. =\ not saying it wasn't there, but the game just didn't make me feel 'alone' or even 'abandoned'.
there's no link. why not make a web player, too?
it was fun to play, but i could've done without the slippery movement. a bit brief, though!
i also felt like its connection to the theme was kind of weak. considering how much you directly help a cat get to the house, it feels like the antithesis of 'alone'.
My primary criticism, in the context of LD48, would be that I actually don't feel 'Alone' at all playing this game. I feel more like I'm part of a synchronized swimming team.
iansnyder, interesting!
Thanks for the feedback, everybody else! Very much appreciated.
However, i think it's a little weird to say things like it's a "Nice little idea which needs to be expanded upon"! I'm not going to add features unless they also feed into the theme(s) I wanted to communicate.
I definitely see this being an interesting game to put on smartphones, though! The touchscreen would make a nice (albeit easier) interface, and a game about answering phones on a phone would be a pretty cool thing!
Forgot to mention this more explicitly:
I didn't see a way to submit more than one game on the same WordPress account, so I had to register another to add this game. Might be something to consider doing differently in the future for crazy people who make more than one game like a crazy person.
far too puzzles-for-the-sake-of-puzzles for my tastes.
i don't like puzzles.
