LD22 — Alone

ALONE by WITS 2011-12-18T11:37:00

I love the gameplay :)

Alone in the universe by ddr2 2011-12-20T22:47:00

Well, due to my lack of graphic skills, I didn't put any texture and / or images in this game (maybe next LD, I will do it with some friends :D ).

The fact is, it was the gameplay (having the ability to turn the "motors" and not the "ship" itself like in any other space game) that interested me.

When I finished that part, I did not find anything that would "suit" very well with this so I quickly coded a score engine and a "poping" star system (star = circle ... lol ) and posted the game because I still find that the gameplay would be pretty fun if there was something else behind it :) . (I will certainly work on a new game based on a similar gameplay in the upcoming days)

Alone in the universe by ddr2 2012-01-09T17:27:00

@CaptainFresh : I totally agree with you ... now :D

@caranha : yup, I thought about this gameplay but the thing is I wanted to have the possibility to "add" motors for better speed but harder gameplay :D ... but I did not implemented this behavior during the LD :(

@leedo : sorry for the down time, I had to make some changes on my server ... clearly, putting it on dropbox would have been a better idea. I will keep it in mind for next LD :)

thx a lot to all of you.

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Crazy Tornado City by Zener 2015-12-19T08:34:00

interesting controls, but there is no difficulty increase or anything ? The controls don't get harder with a bigger tornado (getting out of control) ... which makes it not really re-playable.

good job though, I had fun playing it.

Backwards and Bonkers! by CartoonJenn 2015-12-15T23:27:00

graphics are amazing.

the idea is interesting, of actually "reverse"-ing it. In that type of game, we usually expect objects to come from the top and us controlling a character at the bottom of the screen. Here, constantly seeing what's going to eat you is quite interesting. The downside of it is that you loose visibility when big items appear, which could limit game design if you were to pursue the game further with more levels / more obstacles.

Oh, and it's definitely too damn short / easy

I don't want to finish on a bad note, so really ... the graphics are amazing ;)

Breathe by Galvesmash 2015-12-15T23:34:00

Controls (both for charge and moving the cursor around) are a bit delayed which makes it quite hard to be efficient.

I am also not completely sure it's worth meditating to the second bar if you react quickly enough to kill what's surrounding you with the first ?

Art and audio (my first 5 on audio ;) ) were amazing and very well integrated.

Great job guys.

Endless Rallye by mnill 2015-12-13T23:10:00

quite simple but it works well. the sounds are a bit irritating though. I love the fact that you did not completely stop the game when a crash happen and that car behind you can also hit you, creating bigger crashes (could be fun to have a counter of how much of a mess you made by crashing on the road for instance :D )

Growing Ties by drludos 2015-12-21T14:13:00

that theme oO 5/7 perfect score ;)

Snow Growth Island by Pontus_LSS 2015-12-15T00:58:00

Love the idea of accepting / declining what the game pushes into the player at first, but it gets old quite fast.

Graphics are really nice, audio fits well though a bit repetitive.

Overall, a pretty interesting experience, good job ;)

Spectral Sprinter by Acuity 2015-12-19T08:41:00

some jumps are really tough. I had trouble getting used to jump and then dash, it seemed counterintuitive.

+1 on tutorials and an incrementing score somewhere on the screen.

Lane King by LukeZaz 2015-12-16T20:19:00

Interesting to play. I am definitely confused on the whole level-ing part, is there any visual indicator of it ?

Anyhow, I think I got a pretty good strategy by basically spaming 5-6 units consecutively in each row (which means that they will end up being "clustered" together and one-shot everything at that point, which probably eventually snowball with the leveling thing ?)

Grow with the Flow by jww608 2015-12-16T21:12:00

As mentioned by nonetheless, the noise of hitting black / not hitting white (e.g: of failing ;) ) are annoying over the music. You could have tried dimming the music volume to indicate a failure maybe ?

I did try to do some MIR a while back, I would be curious to know what algorithm you ended up using ?

Easy Job? by TajamSoft 2015-12-16T21:18:00

That need for pixel perfection is just making it impossible to solo imho.

That said, it's an interesting concept and brings definitely more challenge than all the cook serve delicious-y games out there ;)

Croc Climber by thegypsyknight 2015-12-16T20:05:00

I loved the menu and that idea of growing a plant to move forward in the level, it makes a quite old and not-so-fresh genre interesting to play.

Two buttons planting game by Genpaku 2015-12-16T21:23:00

omg omg omg between the graphics made with Paint and the sound when you loose <3 It's just fantastic ;)

btw, I ended up stuck in an infinite loop "U loose" > *presses start* > game screen flashes > "U loose" > *presses start*, probably the game figured out I was a looser and made me loose auto-magically ;) ?

Anyway, funniest game I've played so far, those graphics were just so cute ;)

Two buttons planting game by Genpaku 2015-12-16T21:24:00

oh damn, forgot to vote :/ Here you go sir: 4 for Humor and 4 for the mood, you made me smile ;)

Lawn Mower Fight by WizzardMaker 2015-12-16T20:44:00

Seems like the Mac version is broken, I get the error mentioned on this thread when trying it: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/181026/lsopenurlswithrole-failed-with-error-10810-cant-open-install-os-x-yosemite

Whack-a-Mouse by Xitavos 2015-12-15T20:48:00

Extremely hard to play with a Mac trackpad xD (I just could not figure out a way to do both left click and right click at the same time)

Except from that, obviously I like the concept since our games are somewhat similar and the execution is quite nice, definitely trying it on a smaller grid (3x3) could be interesting (and keep the difficulty by increasing the pace ?)

Good job

Line/Dash by Eingya 2015-12-16T20:54:00

I love minimalist graphics. Gameplay is interesting but would deserve a better explanation or a way of more gradually getting used to it ?

Another issue is the lack of symmetry (the first one will ALWAYS go down and THEN go left) is annoying me (I really don't know why, it's just ... weird I suppose ?)

Anyway, great game ;)

Cant Stop Moving by Darkflint 2015-12-16T21:35:00

chat was funny ;) I played while XtremePrime was there and ended up trying his strategy, except I was still in the chat window and ended up posting something like this in the chat:

ddr2:addaadaadaddaaddadaadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadaddadadaadadad

Anyway, fun idea, I will just +1 everyone that said lack of visual feedback, it's very important for that kind of game to know whether you've hit it right or not, and constantly monitoring the score at the bottom gets you distracted ;)

UpgradeShipWinGame by Digitaldude555 2015-12-15T22:59:00

automagnet++ as well.

not sure about the horizontal thingies also considering they are impossible to shoot.

overall, run well and quite enjoyable, good job.

The Dancing Sunflower by aemiliu5 2015-12-15T23:06:00

web version worked fine for me on firefox.

graphics looked cool (though, why that weird blurriness on the tree ?), music as well.

the only thing that would prevent me from trying to beat my record (46) would be the fact that it's completely random and you end up just doing a left-right and hope that you will find the next zone to grow which seems to be completely random ?

Ball Street Journal by modenv 2015-12-16T20:34:00

Well, it's quite agar.io-ish (not that it's a bad thing, there is some big gameplay similarities).

That said, I love the idea of hovering over the city like that and the graphics are gorgeous, lacking a bit of color but that's it. The audio is very well done as well.

Good job

Laser Jump FTW by Crashmore Studios 2015-12-15T23:16:00

Playing with that recoil is just a superb idea. First game that gets me hooked enough in this jam to make me retry and want to get better at it.

After a couple of games, I am still not completely sold as I would have loved to be able to completely out-brain some of the ennemies just by movement, but they eventually still find you tracker-style which means that any dodging movements is actually useless: you HAVE to kill.

Anyway, great idea. graphics and audio could use a bit more work but the concept / gameplay just makes it fun so great job guys.

Hero's War by murlsousa 2015-12-15T23:21:00

gets repetitive quite quickly but it's definitely enjoyable for a while.

test by ddr2 2015-12-15T23:42:00

qkerguelen@ yep, you have the same vibes of tiles transforming adjacent tiles than in Conway's Game of Life. Actually making the growth "game of life"-like (with some tiles despawning) could definitely be interesting to try, thanks for the idea, I will add it to my todo of stuff to try ;)

TerraCottaFrog@: yeah, I feel your pain dude :/ I would have loved to have time to do some client interpolation and lag compensation but I really struggled on time with that one (I maybe should have left the multiplayer part out, it's really not a great idea in a time-constrained jam). Anyway, I may have a try on it in a future version.

all@: thanks a lot for the feedback :)

test by ddr2 2015-12-16T00:48:00

Zathnic@: hehe, I was lurking while you were drawing that, it was quite beautiful to watch ;)

Galvesmash@: so you don't wanna try the hardcore version ;) ? Anyway, I'm adding to my todo a way for the player to tweak a bit the difficulty (or even do some automatic difficulty tweaking, I've been dying to have the possibility to play with those kind of algorithms)

test by ddr2 2015-12-16T21:40:00

Oh I just realised why everyone is seeing so much delay (silly me). Most of you guys must be out of Europe, which means you're literally crossing oceans before the tiles gets removed. Some client interpolation and regionalised servers would definitely solve it, adding to the todolist of items if I pursue this further.
