LD23 — Tiny World

My Kid Dropped The Planet by MadGnomeGamer 2012-04-23T05:14:00

Like others, I had my virus scanner block me from being able to play the exe. I do have Game Maker, so I was able to play it through the source you uploaded.

I thought your game was innovative. I never thought I'd be throwing around Whoville trying to destroy it/save it. Loved the idea.

I also thought your game fit the theme of a tiny world very well because the main object of the game is...well...a tiny world.

The graphics were not the best, but they got the job done for the most part. I did have a little trouble figuring out what the world could go through and couldn't go through at times.

I found the sound effects to be very annoying. Even after I turned my volume down a lot, the sounds were still more annoying than adding to the game. I guess it does kind of fit the immaturity theme in your game though with the kids doing exactly what their mother told them not to do and all.

Though immature, there was humor in your game with the kids being kids. Though I think it's more face-palming than hilarious.

It's an imaginative game, and I applaud you for even thinking of this sort of thing let alone making a whole game surrounding it. Good job!

Wow, fantastic game! The game was fun to play, and the dialog was very entertaining. I admire your art style, and you set the mood in the game perfectly. Excellent work!

Thanks for the good responses you guys!

*slaps forehead* I'm so sorry! I completely forgot to program the ability to give the flower to the girl! I'll definitely start working on that and continue making the game.

Loved the graphics of your game!
I also used Chrome to play it. The sliding down walls on the right worked perfectly, but whenever I was sliding down walls on the left, the character was constantly going between hugging the wall and slightly in the air next to the wall. It made jumping of left walls very difficult and frustrating at times. Finished the game anyway. xD It was great! Great job on this beautiful game!

Ant Quest! by Entrails 2012-04-23T04:33:00

I thought your game fit the theme of this Ludum Dare very well with the characters being recognizable as one of the smallest insects that are also commonly known. I also thought that you set the mood pretty good with the graphics. Though the graphics are not great, they get the job done, and it's easy to recognize what they represent.

Perhaps I just wasn't very good at your game, but I thought that playing it was pretty frustrating. The most frustrating part of it was when a beetle would randomly be generated right next to the ant I wasn't currently controlling and killing it before I even realized what was going on making me start from the beginning again. The AI of the ants not being used is good though they did have their moments of being stuck on a wall.

I thought that your game was too difficult at times. For example, if I run into a group of beetles, there's very little chance of me surviving unless a bunch of them get stuck on a wall. It seemed like after killing a group, more would suddenly spawn right next to me and kill me. It would be nice if there was either less spawning, or perhaps they could spawn a ways off from where the ants currently are. Those deaths seem harsh and unneeded.

Also, it took quite a few deaths to realize the tan ant's space ability could be used as an attack and isn't just a speed boost. It would've been nice to have seen that mentioned in your controls section above.

I would say you've got a good start to a game though. Fix a few of the annoyances and you've got a pretty good game. Keep up the good work!

Wow, this perfect in almost every way. The game was challenging, but also very fun and rewarding. The ending was hilarious!

BioBattle by Budda 2012-04-23T06:59:00

It seems like this game leaves it to luck to win. One turn doing 5 damage, next turn doing 15? With no defense/blocking for each turn? Despite that the game is fun to play and watch.

I thought the graphics were pretty good, and the attacks such as flagellum-flick were hilarious.

Even though it was short, it was really fun. The atmosphere and mood of this game were perfect. Great work!

Very nice game. You weren't kidding when you said that some of the levels at the end were hard! I made it to the Fin! Yay! The level designs were challenging and fun. I also felt the music and sound effects fit the game nicely. Good job!
