LD24 — Evolution

Evolutionator! by CataclysmicKnight 2012-08-28T02:36:00

I spent so much time playing this. Extremely addicting for such a simple concept.

Ages of Irving by Deconstructeam 2012-08-28T00:54:00

Same here. Freezes at about 85%.

If you're quick, you still have 5 minutes to fix it!

Deal with It by midgard 2012-08-28T05:04:00

Challenging, but neat!

By the time I finish the first level the screen is spraying black everywhere.

Planet Evo by dick_claus 2012-08-28T02:05:00

Was not able to play - "Alternative Content" shown as well as a "Get Flash Player" badge. I am using Chrome with builtin flash on Windows 7 32 bit.

Mad Scientist Monster Maker by frosty 2012-08-28T02:15:00

What a great concept!

Curse of Hardai by Incredible Ape 2012-08-28T02:45:00

Gets pretty challenging after a while. I liked it.

Seed Feed by rhaasken 2012-08-28T02:48:00

Sound concept but could use some more polish.

Survival Of The Tastiest by zeh 2012-08-28T03:03:00

Love the concept, though the pastas could have some better AI. Although, they are pastas...

Super Darwin by sev_inf 2012-08-28T00:59:00

Lovely graphics and fun to play!

We Just Got Serious by hansolo 2012-08-28T01:33:00

Good concept and implementation, but the mass loss to friction is a bit excessive in my opinion.

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-27T21:40:00

Thanks for testing, BMacIntosh, while I don't know what causes this I've uploaded a new version that possibly fixes the issue.

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-28T01:57:00

To those of you who are having difficulties with playing Out of the Sea, would you kindly state your OS version and service pack please? In my admittedly limited testing I have not tested very many OSs.

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-28T02:22:00

I've been unable to reproduce this "Not Responding" issue on any of my test systems, I'm afraid. Sorry to those of you who are having issues with it, I've made a gameplay video for you guys :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbxtC913ki0

By the way, I would appreciate it if you also tried the source code version, might help me figure out what the problem is.

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-28T04:20:00

Thanks for all the responses. I still have no idea why it's not working, but it would be great if anyone could tell me if it is working for them. And if so, what their setup is (OS, whether you have AHK installed, etc.). Perhaps a pattern will emerge.

For now, I don't even know where to begin debugging yet.

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-28T04:27:00

Sorry, AHK is AutoHotkey, the scripting language this game is written in. Being short on time, I used a ton of hacks to make everything work correctly.

That included forking a ton of processes to handle sounds asynchronously. Hey, don't point that thing at me. It's ugly, it's slow, and it causes kittens to die, but it works.

For now a tentative workaround is to install AutoHotkey at the website provided in the post. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to change this anymore, so I won't just to be safe :)

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-29T04:28:00

It is indeed a keyboard macro program. However, it's capable of so much more - it's a pretty complete scripting language, actually.

If anyone has installed AutoHotkey and is still experiencing these issues, please sound off in the comments here. Otherwise I can only Ask you to install it and give it another shot. Thank you for your patience! I am at a mobile device right now but a post-Jam version will soon be made available that will probably make the code significantly cleaner.

Out of the Sea by Uberi 2012-08-30T03:24:00

CapGrip: do you have AutoHotkey installed? For now, this program requires AHK to work properly, even the compiled version.

You may have noticed that I've added a notice about the AHK requirement. Or not. I can't figure out how to make this text bold, anyways, it doesn't support MarkDown, HTML, or BBCode.

Homes Through Time! by Materie 2012-08-28T01:01:00

Good concept, could use more content though.

OS: Evolution by zatyka 2012-08-28T01:38:00

Controls were far too difficult for me to use, I got stuck by the second level. Otherwise, a pretty sweet game.

Yellow Dog by Barry Abrams 2012-08-30T17:27:00

Addicting and funny. Awesome!

I selected "Go Outside" repeatedly, though, and it queued all the animations up. Perhaps it would be better to disable the button until the dog is "done its business"?

Phantom planet by Killerbug 2012-08-28T02:02:00

Unfortunately did not do anything when I tried to run it. Process stayed open for a little while and then closed.

Ran it from the command line too, just to see if there was any output (there wasn't).

Cuboid Sandbox by cominu 2012-08-30T17:17:00

Mesmerizing! But sort of confusing at first.

uni.bb by IndigoWolf 2012-08-30T17:15:00

Fun concept, but the game behaves very quirkily at times.

Grow by kevincorrigan 2012-08-28T01:11:00

Couldn't make it work properly, but good to see a BGE game!

@josefnpat: Blender is cross-platform. Try running it in a Linux version of Blender.

The life of Cat by Amoaeba Junior 2012-08-28T01:24:00

Wow! Something really worth playing.

Evo by nseward 2012-08-28T04:55:00

Stellar! Amazing idea, great gameplay and the original music just tops it off.

Ultimate Plant by nimblegorilla 2012-08-28T01:30:00

Very complete. It's not often that a cellular automata game becomes so engrossing.

Genvaders by celeron55 2012-08-28T05:13:00

It was real fun until the invaders started getting a bit too wise. I put 'em down for good, though, with a quick Alt + F4 to the shins.

Evolution by YopSolo 2012-08-28T01:08:00

Game froze after a while but was fun while it lasted!

Friend Ships by introvertlol 2012-08-29T23:04:00

As Cake&Code said, it became difficult to tell if my projectiles were actually doing anything to my targets since there was no response to successful hits. That said, this is a fun game and has more depth than the average top-down spaceship shooter.

Kibitzer by Felipe Budinich 2012-08-30T00:13:00

I found the game a bit slow at the beginning for my tastes, but it gets interesting after things speed up.

The Erebus and the Terror by sfernald 2012-08-28T04:31:00

Great writing, intuitive controls, best text adventure I've seen in a while!

2052 by Mach60KAS 2012-08-30T17:41:00

Good story! Well paced and has a lot of atmosphere.

Whelp by CaptainKraft 2012-08-28T04:36:00

Sometimes challenging, sometimes easy, always a fun time.

RED PLANET by BuffaloPhil 2012-08-28T01:55:00

Good story, fun to play, but I had trouble going through doors. Always had to jiggle around a bit before they'd open.

Advolvolution by Charlie Hadden 2012-08-28T01:44:00

Couldn't figure out how to do survival, but 350 kittens later I'd consider my time well spent.
