LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Drill Arena by TheDreik 2014-04-30T20:20:00

I originally thought that this game would be no good, no offense, mostly because of the art style presented, but after playing it for about 15 minutes, I see that this game has a very original gameplay and is almost like an Atari game, which is hard to replicate to a tee, in my opinion. That being said, the art style was still gross, no music, it didn't really need, and character speed could have been upped to improve the flow. As a result, the game wasn't that fun.
Despite all of these problems, I did actually enjoy the end product. While it was a perfect game, it was more than adequate, and definitely one of the better games that I've played so far. Good work.

Deeper Beneath the Surface by Havacore 2014-04-28T00:14:00

Dear me, this is boring, and the controls are far too floaty. The music could have been much better, the sounds are barely audible, and it's way too repetitive to keep the player's attention.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. As for the pixel banding, thanks, I've had that problem for quite a while.

Thanks for the good feedback, everyone. I thought I had fixed the negative life, and while I technically can't change things like boss difficulty and enemy AI, I will be releasing a new version, fixing these problems (and slowing down the boss firing rate).

This game was god damned delightful. The humour all comes from the player, which I greatly appreciate. The gameplay was a tad stale, but it can be forgiven. The nature of the game made me want to play it again, which is always a plus. Overall, amazing job.

Office Simulator 2014 by FuzzyWuzzie 2014-04-28T02:58:00

This was an amazingly fun game for what it was! I thoroughly enjoyed this entry to Ludum Dare. The humor was phenomenal, and the story was interesting. While the graphics, audio, and overall theme-tie-in wasn't very good, the rest of the game shone through. Exemplary job.

Come Home by cwkx 2014-04-28T00:09:00

Very impressive art pixel art, as everyone says. The darker color tones definitely compliment the musical style. As everyone already said, as well, it lacks much gameplay beyond pressing the arrow keys occasionally.

That was very impressive, for what it was. The bugs I faced did make some of the jumps overly difficult, and most deaths occurred from only bugs, but for a game made by a 12 year old, this was a very impressive game. Well done.

Cave Adventure by xsiimoniix 2014-04-28T00:17:00

Albeit a bit too punishing, as there could have been a health system of some sort, everything else is pretty solid here. Well done.

Reciprocal Transmission by alshirah 2014-04-28T00:19:00

Very good job, while the sprite work is lacking, and it could've used some music, the gameplay is very original.

"Beneath The Surface" by Otter207 2014-04-28T00:04:00

Interesting idea, but it's very devoid of much purpose, to be honest. I like the pun "beneath the SURFACE," though, that was very clever. The controls felt a bit stiff, and the collisions were not very likable, as many times I'd die on the corner of something that I did not think I was hitting. 7/10

I really wanted to like this game, what with it's neat humor and good application of the theme, not to mention it's smooth controls, but the lack of music, repetitive and unoriginal gameplay, brokenness of the level design (seriously, I got stuck at least 7 times) hold this game from being a great game.

New Dawn by Penguincat 2014-05-03T02:48:00

This is honestly one of the first times I've seen a game get a 4/5 and have the mood mostly carry the whole thing. I loved the point & click elements, and the theme was very well executed. The mood was very good, and I loved how the visuals worked with audio to make the theme feel that much more relevant. Excellent job.
