LD25 — You are the Villain

StarRunner by Bobrocket 2012-12-22T00:38:00

I suppose it says you're a villain in the description, but it doesn't come across as clear enough in the game. Perhaps an in-game introduction of sorts? The controls were pretty fluid, and the graphics were all right, as was the music. Why did you include someone else's game (LD25.exe) in your folder as well, though? That all being said, I think this was a good game in every other aspect, keep up the good work.

Also, just out of curiousity, are you the same Bobrocket from the Terraria forums? If so, fancy meeting you here as a competitor at these competitions. Though I guess not so much, since I took part in the Jam, not the Compo, but still. XD

Doctor Spandex by Cássio Eduardo 2012-12-18T02:55:00

Very nicely done! Best game I've played so far, I knew right from the beginning I'd be giving you a 5/5 for Humor, and the game is actually pretty fun, if hard. The only downer was the stair programming being very... odd. But 72 hours, blah blah blah, yada yada yada, pretty good game!

Trolling by permanente1600 2012-12-18T05:42:00

Nice game, sweet and simple. I was dissatisfied with the fact that I couldn't be the unicorn and stomp out all of the flowers, but it was well designed nonetheless. Very crisp feeling, no bugs, I like it. Good job, and keep up the good work!

The Button by Tim Bumpus 2012-12-21T23:29:00

Nice concept. I don't like the platforming being as floaty as it is, and the gameplay doesn't have much depth, but I like the storytelling aspect of things. When we did our game, it was more so the before and leading up to the "Why did I do all of this" thing. I never thought to make a game based on the aftermath, brilliant. Keep up the good work!

Phaedra by Trigun7000 2012-12-18T04:53:00

Very good game in my opinion, surprised there aren't many other comments yet. I'm definitely digging the jammin' music, and the images are better than decent I'd say. I love how well done the RTS gameplay is. I enjoyed quite a bit, even though I got creamed. If I had more time, I get the feeling I'd be able to develop a strategy, and that this is what it's all about. Overall, very good.

Heist by 64Mega 2012-12-18T18:47:00

Very good game, especially for the time constraints. Personally not a fan that you used game maker, but it's not against the rules.

Pirate Guy by Skye 2012-12-21T22:04:00

A decent game, even somewhat fun, though I have some issues. The wreckage of the other battleships harms you even though you killed them, I'm not sure if that was meant to be. Also, the rectangular collision detection makes for very odd maneuvering. You can use rectangular collision detection, but try making the rectangles smaller. I feel you probably could have gotten away with pixel-perfect collision detection as well, so continue to push yourself harder and try that next time if the concept is as simple as this one. Keep up the good work and keep improving!

Invasion! by xgeovanni 2012-12-21T01:25:00

Interesting concept, and what there was that was programmed didn't seem to have any collision flaws or anything like that. On the other hand, I feel the graphics could've been better than that, even in a 48 hour compo. Also, it might've been better to do rounds instead of reaching to press i, o, and p to upgrade. Good work, regardless, though.

My Little Terrorist by tomc 2012-12-21T23:02:00

Nice game as far as how deep the mechanic is. A bit of a slow start, but I was able to get into it. It seems the chances for recruiting were too low, but then again I probably killed off my henchmen far too quickly. I'd say this is relatively well done all things considered.

Stealth Slime by koredozo 2012-12-18T02:44:00

Amazing programming for telling what you can and cannot see! Also, I had quite a bit of fun with the concept, I enjoyed it. A bit simple for a Jam entry, but it's currently the best out of the five games I've rated so far.

Two Souls by chaosBrick 2012-12-20T18:02:00

Nice game concept. I don't like how slippery it feels, but aside from that, each level was rather interesting, building off of other concepts and adding new concepts. A bit difficult, but very interesting. Keep up the good work.

Mr Toothy by psychopsam 2012-12-19T07:20:00

Interesting, and fun. Simple concept, and a decent execution. Personally I would've preferred arrow keys to move as well, but I can see the allure of just holding down the mouse button and moving it to change the way you're moving.

Pinball Bounder! by garygreen 2012-12-21T22:30:00

Hm... personally I didn't have all that much fun here, as the controls were very slippery and it felt odd overall. The color scheme is kind of hurting my eyes. Also, I got caught respawning in the center over and over again when the mob was there, therefore getting caught over and over again, until the game froze. That being said, this isn't as bad as it could have been, and this is a learning experience for all of us. A game being programmed in Scratch is new to me as well.

Royal Reptile Rampage by dalbinblue 2012-12-18T03:09:00

A good game lies here underneath some confusing controls.

Kill Butterflies by Natman 2012-12-18T04:24:00

Simple, but nice and crisp. I can't give you a high rating, but very nice for 3-4 hours. Heh, it's better than a good few entries anyways. Good job, I hope to see what you can make in the full time next Ludam Dare!

Killer Crusade by Loginaut 2012-12-18T03:48:00

Good graphics, decent music, and it's an interesting concept, but all there is is Endless mode, and so it lacks depth. Nonetheless, this is pretty good, at least in comparison to many of the Jam entries I've played so far. Why does it have to be 80 MB though?

The last game before the end of the world by grifdail 2012-12-21T23:53:00

So, I liked the idea of having multiple webpages dedicated to the game. To be honest, it didn't seem like much at first, but when I actually got to the actually game I liked how the graphics and the music went together. That being said, the movement was too fast for comfort, although nice and crisp. Turning was also a bit too fast. Also, the level was far too long for doing the same thing over and over again, destroying asteroids and picking up the same exact powerup over and over again. I think you really have a good sense of style, though, as far as the actual game goes. Keep up the good work and keep improving!

*Radio Silence* by Sidlis 2012-12-18T02:18:00

So... there's no point, and I hardly see what this has to do with "You are the villain," except maybe in some very odd modern-art-type way.

Dark Witch by Kyoutashan 2012-12-20T18:08:00

The animation was fantastic. Sadly, there was no music, but if you did that animation yourself I can totally understand. Programming was a bit simple, but very crisp and polished. I saw a new hero appear right at the edge of the screen right as I won, was sad I didn't get to see what she did, might wanna make that one spawn earlier? Other than that, great game!

FActory Villain by metaldemon 2012-12-19T06:55:00

Very good, crisp feeling. I always do like a good platformer, especially if it's relatively bug free for collisions. I feel this has good potential.

Twisted Minion by Justin Kibbe 2012-12-21T22:50:00

So... an interesting concept, yes, but you've given the player far too much of a feeling of being underpowered. The graphics and the music leave a bit to be desired, especially considering this was a Jam. I encountered your bug the first time and won, but it seems a little too unpredictable whether or not you're gonna win without the bug. You should also try static-linking your libraries so there isn't so much junk in the folder for your game. Did you use Allegro, by chance? If you started from scratch with Allegro, I can actually totally understand how this went awry. It's relatively bugless, though, and I think it's an OK job, keep learning and keep up the good work!

Robbert by JuiceBox Entertainment 2012-12-20T06:31:00

Phew, beat it. Those rats were annoying. It seems like this is a good game, it just requires quite a bit of programming polish, aside from the combining of the items being confusing. I thought I was only supposed to combine two at a time, like in escape games. I'm sure this was a good learning experience for you guys, though.

Sword Beats Vampire by Certainty 2012-12-18T02:31:00

It's a good concept and it's fun to play, but it could use some programming polish, especially colliding with the knights.

Storm the Castle by vanZeben 2012-12-20T20:39:00

Very nice game! Music didn't play on reload for some reason, though. Nothing happened after I passed level 4 and pressed enter, so I assume that that was the last level. Aside from that, no complaints here, nice job!

Villain??? by LemonTree 2012-12-18T04:38:00

Not bad, not bad at all. I'd say that this game is well done, except for some of the collision problems that have been mentioned already. If I had to, I'd say this is in the upper 50% of games in my list. I'd say be proud of your entry.

A day in the life of a MINI BOSS by cjgammon 2012-12-19T06:46:00

Interesting idea... though the sprites are ripped and there is no music. Yes, you mentioned that already in the description. Even so, this is a Jam entry, and I'm assuming you had the full 72 hours to work on it. Nice idea, don't get me wrong, but I just feel more could have been done, assuming you went the full 72 hours.

Rest in Pixels by joaorequiao 2012-12-18T05:09:00

Fun to play, although not extraordinarily so. A little buggy, but aside from that I have no real complaints about this, good job.

G.O.A.T. by ChainedLupine 2012-12-19T06:40:00

This was pretty decently entertaining, especially for a game made in three hours.

All Galactic Creatures by somethingbeautiful 2012-12-20T18:30:00

Bwahaha, I'll give you that. Interesting game, though the instructions could be clearer. Like, in game instructions. Though, now that I look at it, it seems this is supposed to be a half-rts game according to the directions you posted... I thought it was just connect-5. Conveyance is key, my friend. Everything else was great, though.

Voyage of the Obsolete Goat by Quantumvm 2012-12-18T03:25:00

I really liked the game concept when I read the description, I was thinking a "You are the villain" type game from the perspective of death worm games was creative. However, it wasn't carried out very well. Sound and graphics were decent, but the gameplay was far too random, difficult, and uncontrollable. Nice job, though, we're here to learn after all!

Ladron! by rukbotto 2012-12-18T04:00:00

Sadly I can't rate you highly just because it's your first game, but holy cow, you came into this knowing NOTHING about how to make games? This is extraordinary given that, keep up the good work, and keep learning!

The "Great" British Weather by bradleypollard 2012-12-20T20:53:00

Bwahaha, you are the weather, genius. I'm loving some of the interpretations of this topic. Graphics and music weren't overly fantastic, but they fit together well, and I enjoyed the end product.

Krampus by 3dwoody 2012-12-20T18:48:00

Nice idea and good graphics. The platforming engine was also remarkably smooth, aside from sometimes randomly getting stuck when pressing right at the same time as falling on a platform. Did you program it beforehand, or during the compo? Or does Stencyl have that sort of built-in thing? Sorry, not familiar with Stencyl. Great job regardless!

Mortal Fear by TDRGames 2012-12-18T02:39:00

Good graphics, good programming, good music, and decent sounds. But the gameplay design... could use work. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of creating a vampire army and fighting other vampire armies, but it was somewhat slow paced and I'm not the biggest fan of the interface. Good job, though, putting this together in 72 hours is tough!

Dig Dastardly by luke161 2012-12-18T05:37:00

Fantastic game you got here. It looks nice and stylized and is generally fun to play. It could benefit from some less randomized level design though.

Super Escape by Saspiron 2012-12-19T06:11:00

Very good, innovative concept! Graphics and music weren't much, but I loved the concept. Programming was slightly buggy, but I can't really blame you, this is something that I wouldn't dream of tackling in 48 hours. I hope this becomes something more. :)

CORRUPTIONEXE by Xgor 2012-12-21T22:36:00

Haha, I love the way some people are interpreting the theme, and this is no exception. Yes, bugs are indeed the villain, and I like the feel you got going here. Personally, though, while the mood was great, the gameplay was lacking. I still enjoyed it, though. See if you can push yourself to use something other than Game Maker in the future, though. Or at least not require us to install the game. Keep up the good work and keep improving!

Target: Restaurant ! by illugion 2012-12-18T05:27:00

Very good game for what it was. From realizing that I could pick up a banana to realizing that my target was the waiter to getting fired by being caught to realizing that I had to do it while he wasn't looking, I think things flowed very nicely. Sad it wasn't finished, it has so much potential. Keep up the good work!

Who stole christmas by StMatn 2012-12-22T00:45:00

I'd say this is among the top 10 games I've played so far JUST because the feel of the gameplay is so nice and crisp, aside from a few tight squeezes. Aside from that you've also got good graphics, and nice humorous storyline, even if it's clearly taken from The Grinch who stole Christmas, and I enjoyed it overall, in spite of the difficulty. Keep up the good work!

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-18T02:07:00

Well, I'd say the first upgrade made it easier to hit those dang knights at first, but thanks for the input! The positive reviews are a nice confirmation that this game isn't terrible, haha.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-18T03:18:00

Thanks for the rating, Diventurer. Yeah, the sounds could have used some more work in terms of volume, I agree, but it's too late for that now. I guess you could say the sprites are the size they are because that's the style. Thanks for the feedback, we're here to learn!

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-18T04:41:00

Quantumvm: Thanks, we put a lot of effort into the flow!

Lur: Well, we were going more for the power-lust feel, but it's good to know that it was lots of fun regardless of whether it was too easy or not.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-18T16:43:00

Gravity Games - Thanks! All this positive feedback is too fantastic. :D As for the engine, it actually is pretty sloppy, I'd say, but then again it was made in the 72 hours, at least the platforming part. I'll upload the source today.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-20T03:26:00

Argh, I knew the music would be an issue. Sadly we didn't have a composer, and WojWorks didn't feel that any of the songs he found fit well enough. We'll try to include music in the post-mortem if we end up doing one, though.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-22T00:48:00

Actually, I'm working on that, youdonotexist. But I need to get my hands on a Mac before I can get a Mac build, and that's the holdup. Sadly, Allegro does not compile for the web. At least not as far as I know... I'll get to work on seeing about that too.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-23T18:22:00

Puzzlem00n - Thanks! We worked hard on the little details, glad someone noticed. :)

As for the little glitches, my platforming engine is really sloppy, but I'm hoping to turn what I made in this competition into an even crisper, cleaner platforming engine.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2012-12-24T05:47:00

LoneStranger - Odd, I've never experienced that error before, and no-one has said anything about such an error as of yet. Did you get stuck in a wall or something? Elaboration is key when it comes to fixing errors.

Conquer The Kingdom by DaGamesta 2013-01-02T01:52:00

goerp: Thanks! That's what we were going for. Originally the game was harder, but we decided we wanted both the hardcore and casual gamers to get through and see all the content, not to mention people who get easily bored or distracted.

Sealed Evil by Neonlare 2012-12-20T02:55:00

A very good game, I loved the concept. It just took FAR too long, especially at the beginning.

GLOBAL Heist by ENDESGA 2012-12-18T03:34:00

Great programming, good graphics, sounds were used well, the only thing I have to complain about it the level design. Perhaps I'm just terrible at it, but it seemed far too difficult, and it seems like the levels were confusing in terms of where you were supposed to go. I get the feeling that this might be what you were going for, a difficult game that is, though. Fantastic for a compo game nonetheless, though!

The Little White Rabbit and the Goat Goatee by Cabral 2012-12-21T21:58:00

Not the most innovative gameplay, but definitely a very unique idea in terms of storytelling. If you fancy yourself a programmer, next time challenge yourself to move on beyond Game Maker. We're all here to learn and keep pushing ourselves, after all. Keep up the good work!

LS-MAN by LoneStranger 2012-12-19T06:03:00

Very nice idea. A bit too easy, but I enjoyed it.

Robot Revolution Dance by dwrensha 2012-12-18T03:52:00

I kind of have to question you creating the game on OS X, sadly I cannot play it. But to each their own, I guess.

Miniman vs Dr. Malificius by master4523 2012-12-19T05:58:00

Very good game, some bugginess but I liked the hero running through the castle, must've been tough to program in this time span. I also like the concept, and it was rather fun if not expanded upon as much as it could have been. But hey, that's what this competition is for, to get things started!

Land of the Weebums by vrav 2012-12-19T06:35:00

Bwahaha! This is pretty good. It definitely separates itself from the competition. Although there isn't much depth to it, there's just something oh so satisfying about it.

Atomic Creep Spawner!! by deepnight 2012-12-18T04:12:00

Wow... I... I dunno what to say, this is amazing beyond words. It's better than most Jam games. I'm having so much trouble believing this was done in 48 hours by one person! It's very fun, funny, good gameplay, etc. The only issue is lagginess sometimes, but that can't even begin to bring this down for me. 5/5 on everything, and I can say that honestly! I'd be surprised if you didn't win this competition!

Mr. Bowtie Versus JZ by derdragon 2012-12-22T00:15:00

Very fun, but there didn't seem to be an end. This was made in Game Maker? That's pretty good for a Game Maker game, I must admit. You should try moving on and see what more you can do with more complicated engines. Overall, I really liked this, felt really evil being the boss, muahaha.

Maiden Muncher Hero Cruncher by solidplasma 2012-12-21T22:23:00

Very interesting, putting the enemies down in an RPG type fashion. At first I thought it'd be really easy, and I'd kill him before he got to the boss, but it turned out that I lost in the end. I guess you could say that it was well evened out and needed strategy, for example, sending too many enemies after the hero will level him up too much. But I wasn't all that big a fan of him just running away a million times in the end in order to accomplish this. Nice game, though, keep up the good work!

I Wana Be The Villain by Harrk 2012-12-20T05:39:00

Very nice, very nice. I like how innovative the concept is, and raising taxes is definitely one of the best ways to be evil, muahaha.

Demon King Goes For a Ride by 23 2012-12-21T23:32:00

No music or sounds at all, for a Jam entry that seems to be far too lacking for me. The game was also far too difficult, far too many souls to kill with far too little health, and the enemy attacks were far to hard to avoid. Still, you got a game up and running, keep improving and I'm sure you'll do better next time.

Turret Maniac by Wukkopi 2012-12-21T23:39:00

A simple tower defense game, and well enough programmed. It was actually fun trying to stay alive as long as possible, though I felt the mood could have used some work. I suppose I was fighting against police officers as well, but I just don't think the villain theme showed enough. Regardless, good job, this was a fun little game.

The Great Summoning by Jiyko 2012-12-21T23:44:00

Interesting game. Decent art. It was fun. I was kind of sad that you said you couldn't draw Satan, though. I would've liked you to have tried, haha. Although it felt kind of awkward to pick those keys that you picked to use, I guess it added a kind of difficulty to the game as well. Would probably have been too easy otherwise. Good job, keep up the good work!

Neutral Balance by koller-digital 2012-12-20T05:27:00

Interesting concept. You have to use your good ammo to gain bad ammo, it's a nice twist. Personally I felt there needed to be something more, or perhaps some rebalancing, but I think this was a good job under the circumstances.

Sir Cat by JoeCool17 2012-12-22T00:00:00

So... hm... I suppose I can give you something for the graphics, but the gameplay is far too sluggish, and it's difficult to avoid the mice with your large size. It's confusing, some in-game instructions would work, not everyone will be reading your description. The whole rotation effect is all right I suppose, but wholly unnecessary for this kind of game, it just makes it feel even more awkward. Keep pushing yourself harder, but try to work on the feel next time!

APATHY by pbdiode 2012-12-20T05:31:00

Very nice having all those phrases, and the platform programming is remarkably crisp, I like it. Only major flaw I can think of is that it's a bit hard associating it with the main theme, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be bad or good.

Pirate Scum by Diventurer 2012-12-18T03:16:00

Kind of confused... apparently I can sail on land, but lose health? Although all the treasure is on land... well, I can understand since it's a compo entry, that must be tough. Regardless, I couldn't get into this game.

Sheep Barbecue by bompo 2012-12-21T23:20:00

Muahaha, I love this, barbecuing the sheep. A bit prolonged to be sure, but I enjoyed this. Would have been nice if you didn't have to click and drag the move to turn, though. Overall, a good job, keep up the good work!

Super Evil Machine by Gareth Jenkins 2012-12-18T02:24:00

Could really use some design polish, but I feel like it has good gameplay at the core

Space Lord by axcho 2012-12-20T03:11:00

Good job. The presentation is good and the gameplay is solid. However, it could do with a tutorial of sorts.

Plebs vs. Mobs by Kurt 2012-12-22T00:05:00

Somewhat confusing at first. If you require using wasd to move, you shouldn't use z to use items, it's kind of awkward. Aside from that, it's actually quite interesting, and I can tell a lot of work was put into it, especially for the 48 hour compo. Keep up the good work, but work on the intuitiveness of your gameplay and the feel of your game.

In good heart by pighead10 2012-12-20T19:49:00

Quite fun once understood, so I feel obliged to rate high. However, you need MUCH better conveyance if you want the average player to be able to get into it the way you want.

Dr. Villano by GetFun 2012-12-22T01:02:00

Very nice! The graphics were good, the music was good enough, and the gameplay was nice and crisp. You even managed to get an online multiplayer score system going! The destruction almost reminds me of my entry as well, I loved it, muahaha. Good job.

LD26 — Minimalism

pigMINt by Phase 2013-04-30T03:45:00

Interesting game, minimalistic to be sure. Yeah, I didn't realize that you had to move your mouse horizontally to change the color either, directions could use some work. Definitely an interesting game, though, good job.

DownGrade by barkergames 2013-04-30T02:25:00

Nice and interesting concept, stripping down to the essentials is very much minimalism. The fact that you created a level generator of this complexity is somewhat impressive, but the first level I spawned in was unbeatable, I couldn't fit through. The gameplay leaves much to be desired, the graphics were all right, no music. I'd say it's a good start, but you might want to remake the core mechanics if you go any further.

Fog by Noah Ratcliff 2013-04-30T02:47:00

Graphics were nice, music was charming, and it was an interesting concept altogether, Not sure how minimalistic you can really say this is, but I'd say it's enough. I can hardly believe you made all those levels with all that art and design in 72 hours, good job!

dodecaphony by heuermh 2013-04-30T03:40:00

This is... interesting. From a minimalistic POV, you give the player controls and they find out the game from its very essence, very good, I like it. Kind of confused at level 2 though, I thought I'm just supposed to hit them in the same order? If I didn't have to start from the very beginning every time I'd play it more to figure it out. Good job though. :)

Triangles by DaGamesta 2013-04-30T04:01:00

Hah, yeah, if you want power you can go to the last LD game I'd made with some others, though I was originally going to do that here as well before being forced into making it more of a "survive as long as you can" game, there'll probably be a post mortem.

Shift the colors faster, eh... you may have a point there, thanks for the advice. :)

Triangles by DaGamesta 2013-04-30T04:02:00

@Jiggawatt Yeah, I've done a few things I shouldn't that's probably making it less efficient than it should be. I'll be fixing that in the post-mortem.

MiniMaul by CloudiestNights 2013-04-30T03:12:00

Heh, pretty fun, albeit a tad too difficult in my opinion. Graphics were nice and added to the minimalism theme if you ask me. The whole thing was a fairly stripped down platformer I suppose, so you get decent points there. Good job, though I recommend using something like dropbox next time for storing your game.

Sleepwalker by disease 2013-04-30T03:27:00

Interesting. I don't think I can give you points for minimalism though. Graphics were all right aside from the plain red square. I played it all the way through, so I can at least say it was pretty fun. Could probably be more obvious about the fact that using pills next to the tub won't put you to sleep though. Good job overall.

Neolithic by MemphisTen 2013-04-30T03:51:00

OK... a nice little platformer, but you need to say somewhere that clicking on the inventing bubble with the mouse is how you make boxes. Also, when I got to the second level, the game just exited on me.

Existential Journey Into The Abyss Of Self Actualization And Peace by MCovert 2013-04-30T03:33:00

Haha, a 1D game was one of the ideas that crossed my mind as well, though I didn't end up doing one. Definitely minimalistic! Kind of difficult, but a good, simple game. :)

Budget Squad by deepnight 2013-04-30T02:57:00

Scored 2435. Was a great game, as expected. Gameplay was smooth, graphics were great, music was all right and fit the mood. My only real qualm is how minimalistic this really is. Oh, but then again I suppose minimalism is stripping down to the essentials, even if those are lights and a gun. XD Good job once again. :)

Brave New World: The Game by Nolan C 2013-04-30T03:56:00

Got to 107, haha. Tough to keep up later on. Definitely very minimalistic. Well, at least it's simple anyways. People are happy or sad, make them happy. XD Good job. :)

Mr. Minimal by sP0CkEr2 2013-04-30T03:07:00

Much as I understand that he gets faster, it takes far too long before he gets faster and it gets repetitive really. That being said, it was actually fun, the graphics were all right, the music wasn't annoying, and lol, I kind of feel I have to say it's minimalism themed. Good job.

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Suddenly, Ninjas by atomic_swerve 2013-08-27T02:41:00

I'll admit it, I had fun with this one. not too complicated or difficult, but it was a bit upbeat. The sounds and visuals could get a little annoying though and there isn't too much substance to it.

Dilemma by Cthulhu 2013-08-27T14:28:00

Actually was very fun, despite the lack of graphics/music. I didn't expect such a game, rather interesting to have a survey of all people who have played it so far.

SoulReaver by CarmineGames 2013-08-27T03:09:00

A bit too hard, but still quite enjoyable nonetheless. It does become a little memorization-y the more you play, though. But you could have picked better sounds.

Rick Rodo's Rival Restaurant Rush by TeamQuadratic 2013-08-27T03:21:00

I really liked the humor behind this, but it got tedious fast listening to "SPOOOOON TOOOOSSSSS!" over and over and over and over. Not to mention, I can barely see those spoons coming, so death ending up feeling very cheap. The humor behind this game was something of a saving grace though.

Ninja Time by DaGamesta 2013-08-27T01:58:00

We've very recently discovered that there may be problems running the game on some Macs, I have not tried it on Linux yet. Feedback is welcome.

Ninja Time by DaGamesta 2013-08-27T15:02:00

@theholychicken
Yes, all graphics/music was made by us, the sounds were not.

@Generalgore Good question, I'll look into it, most people don't seem to have a problem though.

@Thomas Ingham Aha, was hoping someone would post something for me to go off of. Sound seems troublesome on Macs, I'll have to look into it.

Ninja Time by DaGamesta 2013-08-28T19:24:00

@flavio
Thank you! That's what we were going for, a kind of arcade where you play for the sake of getting better and getting a better score each time, but without the hindrance of stopping right when you die.

Also, nice to know it works on at least one Mac, it seems there really must be some general dependency issue, useful information.

Kill Them All The Aliens!!! by fogelvisch 2013-08-27T21:32:00

It was a nice concept, but the execution was a bit sloppy. poor controls and visuals. Keep on trying though.

Rocket Rampage by Reicher 2013-08-27T21:56:00

This was fun enough to keep me interested in it even though the rocket did not display. That said, you could have had more variety in terms of obstacles and such.

SlimeZone by SayersLabs 2013-08-27T22:17:00

It was good, with decently done graphics and a simple but fun concept. I would suggest working on the sound and making it longer somehow. It had a really good menu though.

10 Seconds to leave by Caracole 2013-08-27T14:50:00

Got to the "platforming" party where you can fall into a pit. I guess it's interesting, but it mostly just came off as kind of annoying to me really. Bananas ftw though. :3

One Way by flavio 2013-08-27T21:40:00

Wow, just wow. Short, simple, sweet, and interesting. It is not too complex and such, but it very well put together and very engaging. not to mention that you nailed the presentation.

The Legend of Jarrow by Vasileiadis 2013-08-27T21:49:00

Maybe it's the fact that it was in 3D, but this game was decently fun for mashing buttons. I do wish that the different actions did not have annoying cooldown rates.

Planet Smasher by thesunnyk 2013-08-27T14:19:00

Agreed, the mechanic was interesting, though the game was too simple, no real graphics or music. Still, it's a great start, for what it's worth it's rather flawlessly programmed.

10 Second Sakura by bluberry 2013-08-31T04:15:00

Haha, was holding my breath for, like, 30 seconds thinking I was supposed to hold until it told me to stop. Nice relaxing concept for LD. Personally think you coulda done more for a Jam, but I also enjoy these little entries that are small but very well done. :)

Time Rupture by Tanser 2013-08-27T02:48:00

I'm a sucker for good pixel art, but the concept didn't keep me invested for long and I was even a little confused on what exactly I had to do when I started. Nice presentation though. It really helps the game.

Goranha by polskadot 2013-08-27T14:59:00

Fun little game. Too luck based for me to play it a lot, but it was fun nonetheless. Still rocks for a 5-hour game.

I Am Time Bomb by LegacyCrono 2013-08-27T14:41:00

Hard to understand how to play, otherwise it seems like it might've been fun.

Ten Sextillion Zeptoseconds by Oxydam 2013-08-27T14:34:00

Wow, when I first played I was thinking, "Bah, just another half-baked entry," but then the mechanics started changing in interesting ways. Not much in terms of graphics or music, but I can see the effort through the very mechanics of the game, good job. :)

Factory Wars by The Evil Cult 2013-08-27T02:31:00

It is well produced, but perhaps a bit too easy to the point of being boring I just built two factories, did nothing else, and won. It really is a letdown considering that it is not a bad idea for a game at all and obviously had a lot of work put into its presentation, it is just that it needs more balanced elements, which is a hard thing to do in a competition like this.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Connected Cultures by Mapboy 2014-08-28T03:50:00

This was definitely a nice game, I always enjoy overhead view rpgs, and it was relatively glitch free. That being said, it was a bit confusing figuring out where exactly to go sometimes, I think it could've used a bit more direction. Still a nice game, quite a bit better than many games out there, great job!

Overlap by phaze0 2014-08-28T02:58:00

Moving the game window itself, as the first answer implied, did not solve anything. I saw the other blanks, but this did not fill them up. I could not figure out the first puzzle. It's an interesting concept, but I can't figure it out.

Onomo by plash 2014-08-26T04:21:00

Fantastic atmosphere, though the lack of gameplay substance shouldn't be ignored.

Twin Souls in Parallel Worlds by ramoncb 2014-08-28T04:02:00

I love the execution, the concept is interesting as well. I've never really liked slow paced games like this, but it was very well done nonetheless, good job.

A : Attack from Red Planet by savethejets1 2014-08-27T04:06:00

Ahahaha... I'm such a sucker for RTS games. That being said, I'm not sure I liked how you had to click on the coins themselves, if we're talking pure clicking mixed with RTS then that seems better. Also would've liked to control the units, but it's understandable that you had limited time. Good game though. :)

World Bash by DaGamesta 2014-08-26T03:50:00

Okay, we'll see what we can do about that.

World Bash by DaGamesta 2014-08-26T14:35:00

@someone9999 Haha yeah, Pluto was meant to be hard mode basically.

@Docjekyll Then I guess you missed the last type of projectile. ;)

@LeafThief @CoopNasty Yes, we wanted to add more realistic momentum, but sadly we ran out of time and left it as is. As for the earth, if you're willing to sacrifice 1/4 of your HP for the points, then why shouldn't we give you the points? :P

@madmaw Thank you. ^_^

A Series of Leaky Tubes by cjacobwade 2014-08-26T04:29:00

Overall, a well put together game! Wouldn't expect any less from those at DePaul.

Spacewatch by SleepyStudios 2014-08-28T02:15:00

Cool concept, but I feel it's a bit hard. Remember that the developer often finds the game easier than most players. That being said, I enjoyed it, I'd say this was one of the better games I played. :)

Pluto's Revenge by sandaz13 2014-08-28T03:46:00

I couldn't help but be annoyed by how hard it was to steer. This reminded me of solar.

What Would You Do with a Quantum Computer? by Animated 2014-08-26T03:16:00

I'm always fascinated by these sorts of games, but it seems like you had a lot of rushed ideas and tried to make it bigger than it needed to be. Perhaps I just misunderstand what paths need to be taken, but it seems like there really isn't as much content in this game as there should have been for a Jam entry, especially when the entire focus was on the story and no focus was required to graphics/music.

Connected Worlds by Jacksack and JordanFitz by JordanFitz 2014-08-26T03:43:00

A bit of a predictable concept, but it's still fun. It would be great if the world-switching was more instantaneous.

Connected Worlds by Jacksack and JordanFitz by JordanFitz 2014-08-26T03:45:00

I really liked the face drawing feature, and the gameplay was interesting. It's nothing that hasn't been done before, though, and the controls weren't tight. Regardless, I enjoyed this game even though I wouldn't label it more than average gameplay. That face drawing feature though; it was great! Just spend less time on a small gimmick and more time on the gameplay next time.

Nonomnia by robodylan 2014-08-26T02:08:00

Uh, not exactly that interesting a game. Sorry to be a downer.

Warp Corp by seantheartist 2014-08-26T02:52:00

Doesn't fit with the theme too well, but as a game of multitasking, it's surprisingly fun. I would suggest using WASD instead of the Arrow Keys though.

Coplanarity by awsumpwner27 2014-08-28T02:22:00

Interesting concept, I'd like to see this expanded upon. This is pretty good and level-headed for your first Jam, congrats on that. Many people end up taking up a task that's too large or small. That being said, I believe that the rules for the Jam state that you can use online resources, so next time you should try adding sound/music, I feel it would help the game immensely.

The Circle Of Life by Tom Snively 2014-08-26T02:42:00

Pretty good, if repetitive. Though it is possible to reach a state in which it is impossible to finish a level.

Mexican Standoff by ATTA Games 2014-08-26T02:46:00

Interesting take on the theme. Would probably make an awesome multiplayer game. Couldn't get the character select working though. I wanted to play as doge pretty badly.

YRENKO by phaser 2014-08-27T04:15:00

It was interesting and moody, but overall very, VERY confusing. Demons just piled up and chased me, pushing the attack button seemed to create a very short distance attack that didn't do anything. The mood was great, but the gameplay was terrible.

Dave's RGB Adventure by swabbur 2014-08-27T04:34:00

While this game wasn't outstanding, I still think it's 10x better than the games out there that tried to do something too complex within the time they were given, and gave a half-baked game that was more often than not broken. The levels were a bit disproportionate in length, but be proud that you finished a game without bugs.

Colliding Geometries by PsychedelicFart 2014-08-28T03:07:00

I congratulate you on giving this competition a shot, especially hearing about the time zone and location differences. However, atm it's just a platformer engine, and I'd advise making it smoother before expanding upon it.

The Story of a Fabulous UniRaptor and Fifty Seven Aliens by pi_pi3 2014-08-31T19:22:00

Gravity being this large combined with such tight platforming and horizontal movement speed that doesn't have inertia, but rather stops immediately after releasing the arrow keys, makes this game far too hard. Also, there should be checkpoints. I only got to level 4 because being sent to the very beginning after losing only 3 lives time and time again frustrated me. Not sure how many level you actually intended us to get through with 3 lives.

This Hero, That Villain by xvix 2014-08-31T19:15:00

Gameplay is too simple, but for something done in one day as your first Ludum Dare I'd give it a C++ (lol I made a programmer joke). If you were to expand on this with better graphics, and make each hero/villain have different powers and tactics, it could be rather interesting.

Balls from Planet LD30 by togie 2014-09-01T03:46:00

Decently programmed, collisions can be hard. But from a design standpoint the concept is too simple, avoid the balls. Well, it was a completed game done in time for a Ludum Dare, so I don't judge you too much for going for simplicity, it's decent for what it is.

Interstellar by jsmars 2014-08-29T05:23:00

Haha, first off all, ty for taking connected worlds seriously like our team did. XD Our games are rather similar. I loved the concept, graphics, and music. A bit hard, but it seems like it's meant to be that way. A+ from me. :)

FLIP! by SetArray 2014-08-26T02:18:00

A good entry. Sometimes one of the two balls wouldn't move vertically even though there was nothing in the way. Either way, decent fun.

Linked Planets by Crazy-Goat-Media 2014-08-26T02:37:00

Surprisingly fun game, but it can be a bit annoying rather than challenging to have those asteroids ruin everything.

Connectris by Amvere 2014-08-28T03:35:00

Very interesting concept, and fun. I enjoyed it. If you could expand on this with better graphics and some music, I think it could be a very fun concept.

Dead Weight by ponywolf 2014-08-28T03:21:00

I absolutely love this, you were able to make a rather complicated game on the phone, and the use of theme was really good. That being said, I feel like platforming was hard and would be easier on a device other than a phone using tilt. Still love it though. We also made a game, check it out if you haven't already. (I don't really remember all the names in the comments for our game)

Relative to Scale by Peach Pie Productions 2014-08-26T03:06:00

A well done, if very simple, game. I like the way it loops.

Crystal Keeper by 3CGames 2014-08-26T02:30:00

Really fun (if hard) game. Maybe make it a bit easier and explain what's going on clearer though?

Galactic Empire by Stan Sypek 2014-09-01T03:53:00

If this was truly you going into the Ludum Dare having never made a game before, then this is good progress. However, next time I'd suggest practicing using Game Maker at least a few weeks before the Ludum Dare.

Super Alien Bro by nerd burglars 2014-08-28T04:09:00

I ate a lollipop and suddenly everything was in flashy rainbow colors and awesome music. Paired with keys being reversed and playing in a dark room, it was kinda tripy.

Disconnect by banana4life 2014-08-26T03:15:00

Nice, clever idea that is fun to play. Collisions could use some work though.

Space Evolution by keddelzz 2014-08-28T02:27:00

"A Java Exception has occurred." - the error I get when trying to run the game.

Galaxy Hunters by Konste 2014-08-26T04:51:00

I like the frantic gameplay, but it gets repetitive. Maybe a shorter play cycle or more gameplay variety would help if you choose to continue working on this.

Nosliw Plane by hamster_mk_4 2014-08-26T03:23:00

Impressive to make a 3D platformer that's as good as this for a Ludum Dare. The controls could be more fluid though.

Emergence by geekygenius 2014-09-01T04:05:00

This idea is fantastic dude. And the execution was marvelous for a 48 hour entry. My biggest pet-peeve was how hard it is to scroll around space, perhaps move the screen at a certain speed depending on how close to the edge of the screen the mouse is? Once again, I LOVE the combination of RTS and planetary battles, I hope you polish it up and do more with this in the future.

Disc Jockey Jockey by mildmojo 2014-09-01T04:12:00

Sounds like a cool concept, don't let it go to waste, I'm sure you can figure it out. :)

Dario Runner by Herman Groenenboom 2014-09-01T04:16:00

Interesting concept, I liked it. A bit of a stretch as far as the theme goes, but it works, and it's definitely solid.

Worlds Together by mklee 2014-08-27T04:39:00

Not exactly a finished game, but I like the concept. If you could expand upon it to make it less confusing perhaps it could be something great. As it stands I still feel that more could have been done on this even within 48 hours, but I like that you focused on putting quality into what you did end up making.

Morpheus by Tex Killer 2014-09-01T04:21:00

Does this first level go on forever? There doesn't seem to be an end, and I'm honestly getting creeped out. XD Anyways, solid work if this is your own engine. Did you make the graphics? That's what impresses me the most.

Morpheus by Tex Killer 2014-09-01T04:22:00

Does this first level go on forever? There doesn't seem to be an end, and I'm honestly getting creeped out. XD Anyways, solid work if this is your own engine. Did you make the graphics? That's what impresses me the most... not enough story to really connect the game with the theme though...

World2 by MemoryLeek 2014-09-01T04:27:00

This is probably the most polished game I've seen so far. It might not be a lot, but the concept is good and everything just feels so natural, from the menu to the gameplay. Though getting squished by walls or falling into pits is annoying. XD Great job nontheless.

Antbassador by KevinZuhn 2014-08-26T16:32:00

This was just fantastic! Hands down the best game of this jam. Way to go!

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Robot Uprising! by Datamosh 2015-04-21T04:13:00

Really nice pixel art on this one.

Underload by Taldius 2015-04-21T16:04:00

This one's a keeper!

Carroty Wars by lurils 2015-04-21T03:57:00

Nice game. It's impressive that you made something like this for it being the first time alone. This is also the first time I've made a game alone, although I shamelessly searched for music and images for the Jam. I love the game concept and it's fun, it's just a bit too hard to see the bullets you have to dodge from the enemies. XD

Duck and Cover Forever! by influxWishdream 2015-04-21T01:58:00

This game was a really well put together platformer, I enjoyed it and had some close calls, though I was able to make it to the end. Sometimes you can get stuck on the side of a wall, but you can wiggle yourself out pretty easily. Other than that, I'd just say that it feels too slippery. A good start, can't wait to see the finished product. :)

Rocket Rabbit by jcmoyer 2015-04-21T02:44:00

Awe man, a bullet hell game, this is the first time I've seen one in the Ludum Dare, haha. I love these kinds of games, and the fact that you made one during the compo is impressive. It inspires me, next time I wanna make one. Regardless, a hella lot of fun, I'm not very good at Touhou, and I wasn't good enough to beat this, but it was a great game nonetheless.

Salt 'Em Up by DaGamesta 2015-04-21T00:47:00

Hello, developer here. Yes, I will be porting to iOS soon, assuming my friend who with the Mac can export it properly, and that LibGDX is capable of using the iPhone's accelerometer. I will keep you updated in the description.

If you're having trouble figuring out what the heck it means by "Hold Straight," please be sure to hold your phone straight up vertically, as if it was a Salt Shaker that you're trying to pour on your food. ;)

Salt 'Em Up by DaGamesta 2015-04-21T06:50:00

Thank you all for the positive comments thus far!

@Isk I had that once during testing as well, I think it may have to do with my engine. I can't seem to replicate it for the life of me though. If you have any idea when specifically it happened, then I always appreciate the feedback.

Salt 'Em Up by DaGamesta 2015-04-23T22:01:00

Thank you all for rating my game! This time around I'm going to close up shop after rating 20 games, since I wasn't on a team this time.

@Demy Maybe if I do a Post Mortem, but since I'm working on a bigger project aside from this it probably won't happen for a while.

@Everyone I'll keep all of your suggestions in mind whenever I get around to polishing this up.

Crump Rush by OnlySlightly 2015-04-21T04:07:00

Interesting concept, really fun game, but I couldn't hear the music. Was I the only one to have this problem?

RoboFight by Sri Harsha Chilakapati 2015-04-21T08:34:00

Hey, I have Java 8 installed, however I am still getting the following error when I try to run it: http://pastebin.com/c1CbZti8

RoboFight by Sri Harsha Chilakapati 2015-04-23T22:03:00

@SHC Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've been busy with work. My GPU is just the GPU built on the motherboard, I have a rather cheap laptop. I will be replacing it within a few months, but I'll see about maybe borrowing a friend's computer to rate your game with at some point in the upcoming weeks.

Specter Snap by Snicklodocus 2015-04-21T02:21:00

Took a minute to get used to, but the mechanic was unique and interesting. I also really liked the artstyle and general mood made by the mixture of the artstyle with the sounds, gives it a nice crunch. Great job, especially for a Compo entry.

Nuclear Space Buckets by oranebeast 2015-04-21T08:40:00

Interesting concept, although eventually my friend just started spamming his laser at one point until I ran into it, haha. The witty remarks at the end of each round added a lot to the game.

P.S. Sorry for making your arm tired. XD

Null Chroma by Chris Delta 2015-04-21T02:58:00

Interesting concept and a well made engine. Cool through and through, I'd like to see more. :D

Character Assassination by jesterswilde 2015-04-21T04:04:00

Not gonna lie, this was a good one. Although It could use some more instructions on how to time things and what-not.

Slug Fest by jmborden 2015-04-21T03:01:00

You weren't the only one to think about pouring salt on slugs indeed, lol. Good job making this game in something new right from the get go, it's truly difficult following a challenge like that in a Ludum Dare.

The Goo Sword by DiegoEscalante 2015-04-22T00:59:00

Simple but effective

BeatBopper by Sean 2015-04-21T02:29:00

Interesting, what language are you making this engine in, if you don't mind me asking? Are you building it off of any other SDKs? My game is made using an engine in progress as well, though less for the purpose of developing the engine so much as to using it to make a game. You have a difficult and hard to understand game, but it seems like the physics of your engine are definitely working as intended. XD

Glorch's Great Escape by wg_phancock 2015-04-21T04:21:00

Pretty original concept. And well presented too.

Shopping Riot by Incinious 2015-04-21T02:38:00

Interesting, funny game. Was fun to play, although still kinda confusing, an in-game tutorial would help, but I understand that's always hard during these Jams. I figured it out, and had a good time.

Lookout by Pixelcyborg 2015-04-21T02:08:00

A really interesting game, really cool that you were able to get this concept out the door. The hacking was fun and interesting, though I swear I was behind the clock when that guard caught me trying to hack him, haha. Good job.

Nice game with nice visuals. A bit simple, but fun nonetheless.

Plant + Birds by TerraCottaFrog 2016-08-31T00:36:00

Interesting concept and fun once you understand how it works. On another note, even after closing the game, the music is still looping for some reason.
