LD23 — Tiny World

Tiny Hack/ by Ace 2012-04-24T17:33:00

Nice little game. Controls could have been a little easier as I found myself having to do almost everything with my left hand. Could have done with the option of the arrows keys and the right control button to let you use both hands. I wasn't able to try with a joystick though. A running total of your score would have been nice too. Still; it is exciting to play and the combat was definitely engaging. Lovely programmer art too ;).

Farming Simulator by spacechase0 2012-04-28T14:50:00

Intriguing but the lack of variety and win conditions meant it got a little boring quite quickly. Solid basis for development here though.

Crater by MidgeS 2012-04-28T15:06:00

Nice start; just a pity you didn't have time to add more content. Like the programmer art style - especially the grandfather.

Bugs by schizofunky 2012-04-24T20:57:00

Very well balanced; tricky but not impossible. Graphics are very good too. Sound a little repetitive but helps to build up the tension so I like it.

Tiny Room by chaosBrick 2012-04-30T21:11:00

Fun game. Crazy number of bullets. Plays well. Well done.

Ant In Training by Syntaxide 2012-04-26T21:31:00

Very clever puzzles here. Good fun to play. Sometimes a little frustrating. I'm not quite sure whether I won or not. I reached the gold star south of the cat shaped thing but nothing happened. I wasn't able to collect the green cats above the gold star though so maybe I was missing something. Still, very entertaining.

Tiny God wants a Bigger World by Thotep 2012-04-26T10:00:00

Very interesting new game mechanic. Nice and challenging. Good work.

Aquarium Adventure by eli 2012-04-28T14:57:00

Very novel game. Nice work with the underwater feel! Music just right for a fish tank.

Path O' Invasion by ratboy2713 2012-04-24T18:13:00

Very innovative and interesting game mechanic. Has a lot of potential! Sometimes a little tricky to see because the units were small but that wasn't a major problem. Having some kind of multiple unit select would have been great though. Still, very nice little game. Well done.

TinyColony by aaronsnoswell 2012-04-24T17:55:00

Excellent game! Great fun to play :). Victory at commander level with a population of 85. It took ages to track down that last crafty red ant! Anyhow really great entry, amazing you can make that in 48 hours.

esCape by Lucas Tiridath 2012-04-26T10:29:00

Hey thanks for all the comments everyone :). Yeah sorry about windows only. Glad to hear it runs on WINE though. AGK (which I made it in) can technically be ported to Mac but I'd need a Mac to be able to do so and I don't... And I think asking players to compile the game first is asking a bit much!! Anyhow point taken and next time round, I will make sure there is a web based version. I've added a new post-compo version that speeds up the movement for those of you who were frustrated by that.

esCape by Lucas Tiridath 2012-04-28T15:08:00

Sorry but probably not realistically. The language it's written in (AGK) can be ported to Mac but you need a Mac to do so which I don't have.

Nom Nom Planet by Arkazon 2012-04-24T20:34:00

Hahaha great fun and very amusing! Great range of enemies. Highest score so far around 45k but I'll try and beat that!

Flyght by yosh 2012-04-24T17:14:00

Nice entry. Like other people have said, it would have been good if the gameplay was a little longer. I liked the power ups though and it's fun to play. Well done!

The Cube Realms by Zoomyzoom 2012-04-24T18:30:00

Game works fine for me (Windows 7 HP x64 Java 1.6). Good game but a little rough around the edges. Nothing particularly innovative here so I couldn't really rate higher but it's still a great achievement to have produced a working game like this in the time.

Of Mice And Giants by hyperturtle 2012-04-24T20:01:00

Great fun, very addictive. Very short sprint adds an interesting dimension. Musics and graphics fit really well.

Fire Around by Naouak 2012-04-28T14:32:00

Haha, great fun and and a little mind-bending too. Good work!

trapped. by noddy2006 2012-04-26T10:10:00

Nice little game. Movement was quite awkward though, particularly jumping. Loved the messages between the player and the enemies! Didn't like the fact that enemies can actually spawn right on top of you though, meaning you didn't have to chance to avoid them. Maybe I was missing something on the pyramid level but I couldn't get back on to the platforms once I was down on the pyramid.

LD24 — Evolution

Future Pixels by NatNoBrains 2012-08-27T09:32:00

Not bad for 5 hours work! Very nice particle effects. Like other commenters have said, first level is too long. I timed it to over 3 minutes before I died without changing level but you say it should only last for 2. Still, good fun and sillily difficult :). Fix the level thing! I want to get to level 3!

You ARE the RAIN by alvivar 2012-08-28T11:36:00

Super creepy and very original. Only complaint is that I'm now suffering from RSI! Very good game; well done.

Evolution Or Revolution by PTSnoop 2012-08-27T09:19:00

Hey, I tried your game and it runs fine for me (on Windows). Very very interesting idea. Slight glitch with the level bars going too far to the left and right at one point but nothing major and I loved the demonstrators! (actually I hated them, they kept overthrowing my glorious progressive society due to their own outdated ideologies ;p). Maybe some more tips on what you have to do to win? Anyhow a great effort. I think every politician who advocates social engineering should be forced to play this first!!

Evolution Strategy (Web) by Kickerua 2012-08-28T07:49:00

Hey, nice entry. Very interesting simulation style game. Nice idea giving the player only very limited control but giving you enough to keep it interesting. Well executed and very impressive for your first LD. You should feel very pleased with what you've managed to make.

Infected Cell by DDDBOMBER 2012-08-27T11:44:00

Nice work. Very good take on the theme. Couldn't run the browser version here (missing applet class) but desktop worked just fine. Good level of difficulty and nice power up system. Only issue was with firing whilst pressed up against any wall (it didn't seem to be possible).

Cellception by DiG 2012-08-27T08:52:00

Great little game! Really fun and the effort you made with the graphics and the soundtrack really added to it. Good work.

Swarm by Will Xyen 2012-08-28T15:49:00

Agree with the other comments here. Great fun once you get going but a little tricky to work out what is going on at first. Having to improve your opponents rather than yourself is very original.

How Mosquito Became Human by SaintHeiser 2012-08-27T14:49:00

Brilliant game. Wonderful pixel art and a great sense of humour. I agree that the controls are a little tricksy sometimes but that's the challenge, right? And like other people have said, great ending as well. Really well done.

The Evolution Of Stars by Dadeyemi 2012-08-27T09:04:00

Very nice entry. Background soundtrack really made it for me but the glowing graphics were very smooth too. Would have been nice to have more control over when the text changes (I'm a slow reader) but overall very polished and impressive. For your first LD, I think you should be very proud of your achievement. Btw I notice that the icon on the task bar keeps jumping to the right and sliding back to the left? Are you doing something weird with refreshing the window or something?

Shapelution by TuxedoFish 2012-08-28T12:00:00

Nice idea although gameplay was a little strange because as other people have said, the levels weren't so clearly separated and after a time, shapes just kind of stopped appearing. That said, I liked what you were doing with the shapes and you should be very pleased at having got this finished; especially in your first LD. Well done.

- EvoluTion - by Hvedrung 2012-08-28T11:55:00

Interesting game play mechanic and very nice graphics and sound. I found it a little confusing working out what I was meant to do (that could just be me being dense) but overall very good.

Kitty Breeder 2012 by turnip 2012-08-27T15:03:00

Excellent game and great fun to play. Very addictive. Well done :).

Experiment X by XmmmX 2012-08-27T14:18:00

Really liked your graphics; especially the pulsating mutant that you play as (and also the particle effects in freeze/fire breath). Good amount of variety and content. Well done.

darwin_award by heuermh 2012-08-30T07:07:00

Nice idea if a little confusing. Well done.

EvoWord by jovoc 2012-08-30T06:53:00

Excellent game and an interesting take on the theme. Good fun to play too! Maybe could do with a slightly larger dictionary (although maybe I was just spelling stuff wrong - dyslexic here) but overall great work :).

minogear by Andrei Barsan 2012-08-27T10:07:00

Same error as phren I'm afraid, again on Win7 SP1 x64. No error message; just doesn't start. Couldn't get the source to compile either as Eclipse couldn't find an entry point. Hope you can get this fixed because it looks like fun.

minogear by Andrei Barsan 2012-08-27T12:17:00

Working now! Yes I was sure I was using Java 1.7. As it turns out, I was wrong... Hey, I'll still tired from making my entry! Anyhow very nice entry. Good use of the theme and I'm particularly impressed by the level of polish you have achieved in the time. Nice graphics + those little touches such as the new objects sliding down etc. make for a very good game. My only complaint is that level 3 seemed to require quite a lot of luck in the order the things dropped down. A great start. Where will the Minotaur go next though?

Darwin's Apple by demonpants 2012-08-30T07:13:00

Hey, interesting idea. I little confusing at times but still very impressive. Well done.

Combine And Conquer by Lucas Tiridath 2012-08-26T22:35:00

Hey, thanks for trying it out for me :). Are you quite sure you killed everyone? The screen scrolls quite a long way each way so could you have missed someone? The way to know is that there are always 5 of them so if you've not killed 5, you're not done yet.

Combine And Conquer by Lucas Tiridath 2012-08-27T06:28:00

Yes I was thinking of doing it as multi player (nothing to do with saving myself the effort of coding the AI of course) but I figured most people wouldn't be able to play it if it wasn't single player. If I develop the idea in future though, I'll almost certainly include multiplayer. Thanks for the feedback :).

Evolving Empire by Spaceoff 2012-08-27T10:05:00

Holy Moley! You built a 4X game in 48 hours!! You realize that to beat this, you're going to have to do an MMORPG next time, right? Very very impressive. I love these games (Civ 2 was my second video game after Great Green Mouse Disaster ;) ) and I think you've captured what makes them such fun really well. Of course there are lots of features you could add (if you had another year or so to work on it) but getting a fully working 4X with cities, units, tech trees and combat going in 48 hours is truly staggering. When you recover conciousness after this monumental effort, give yourself a pat on the back from me!

Cave Creature by defiantburrito 2012-08-28T07:38:00

Nice work. Combat seemed a little tricky as there didn't seem to be a way to avoid being hit back which meant I always needed to go and top up my health. Amazingly large world though and a good use of the theme. Well done.

Living Worlds by ghRibacki 2012-08-30T07:00:00

I really liked the way the player felt they were moving across the surface of an orb; very nice. Like djtjj though, the screen was very dark for me.

LD26 — Minimalism

Arco by lightspeedlucas 2013-04-29T15:28:00

Very clever idea and remarkably fun! I wasn't quite sure what to do at first either but it all became clear looking at the video you posted. Very effective, good sound, and a nice interpretation of the theme. I could see this becoming a real time sink ;). Well done.

Don't Get Wet by Komradus 2013-04-29T11:08:00

Very innovative way of intercepting the raindrops; I like the randomness of them. Android build sounds interesting as I think it would be fun on a touch screen. Well done!

F*** This Job by Casino Jack 2013-04-29T17:47:00

Very entertaining with nicely designed levels. Very impressive showing!

Mag Ball by MTO 2013-04-29T15:34:00

Look interesting but I'm afraid it was unplayable on my computer, even in a very small Chrome window. I could see the ball was there though.

Black on Black by LUD4K 2013-05-11T16:03:00

Neat game and well suited to the theme. A little hard though! I don't think I managed to get any black squares, let alone the whole lot! Still, well done.

MONO by timtipgames 2013-04-29T12:25:00

Outstanding game! It's the level of polish that amazes me. This is the kind of game I start the weekend thinking I want to make before I cull all the features; but you've managed it so well and got everything in! The music is just right, the mechanics are polished, but best of all, the levels are brilliantly designed. In the light level for example, I was a bit frustrated about having been sent back to the start, but then I realised that you'd unlocked a teleport for me so I could get back to where I was. Really exceptional work. Best I've seen yet.

Arcane Siphon by justin35f 2013-04-29T11:17:00

Really interesting concept, but perhaps a little ambitious for an LD. Glad to hear you're going to make time to develop the idea though as I think it has great potential. As other people have already mentioned, the enemies are a bit brutal and there doesn't seem to be much reason not to just drain all the life out of everything (moral questions aside). Still, well done, particularly for your first LD!

Tactical Spreadsheet by atrodo 2013-04-29T16:39:00

Very interesting take on the theme. I got one guy out but I quite forgot about my other squad members first time through!

Buried by danielcmessias 2013-04-29T21:21:00

Nice game but it's the music that really stands out. Well done with that! A little too hard perhaps and the movement controls could be a little easier by overall a great concept.

Way of the cuburai by comrad_gremlin 2013-04-29T17:53:00

Loved the samurai death poems!! Brilliant. Really nice little game :).

Noughts & Crosses by jamesca 2013-04-29T21:29:00

Neat little game. Original idea and love the ending when you lose. Good work with the music too. A few more instructions might have been useful (like that you can only dissolve one at a time) but other than that, pretty good.

Rocky Flight Balloon by Smaxx 2013-04-29T14:52:00

Fun little game. Good minimalist gameplay and art style.

So the fact that the canyon is collapsing has nothing to do with why the character has decided it might be a good time to get out of the canyon? ;)

Anyhow well done. Good game.

Pixl by JaviCepa 2013-04-29T10:51:00

Effective use of minimalist graphics and entertaining gameplay. Would have been better if I had a second player but not bad played as single player either!

Soldier of Yellowism by ovenchips 2013-04-29T21:52:00

Very original and entertaining entry. Vandalising paintings is hard work! Maybe you should have given the player a little longer, given that you only unlock the next painting if you get 100%. Aside from that, very nice. Good use of WebGL too!

The Last Barman by Nisshoku 2013-04-30T13:00:00

Nice idea and solid implementation. Works very well. Slightly tricky to move the guy to pick up the coffees when you're in a rush, but aside from that, very well done!

WAY. by celiacjoe 2013-04-30T11:56:00

Very original concept! And it fits excellently with the theme too. I think the last level let me keep going after time had run out, which was actually the only reason I completed it ;). Well done.

Peacemaker by Jod 2013-05-11T15:38:00

Very well executed interactive story. Creepy and immersive. Really well done.

Asteroid Blaster by h2n0 2013-04-29T21:36:00

Not bad! The web version didn't work for me for some reason (just a grey blank box) but the download worked fine. Can't exactly see how it ties in with the theme and it would be nice if the gun fired automatically by holding the space bar down but still, a pretty solid entry. Congrats on finishing your first game jam!

Six Steps by Salamander3 2013-04-29T16:52:00

Interestingly designed puzzle game. The controls felt a bit clunky but having limited steps is a very neat idea.

The Simple Clicker Game by psc1997 2013-05-11T16:43:00

Very amusing and ridiculously minimalistic! "Don't Click Here" is a nice touch too ;).

One Space Away by Kiwiboi 2013-04-29T09:08:00

Nicely done! I really like how you interpreted the theme with minimal controls; it's impressive how much control you've given the user through the use of just one button. Also the plane is awesome.

Pixel Burst by Ninjaxio 2013-05-11T16:11:00

Haha this game is insane! And great fun. The speed does make it all seem pretty hilarious. Good work.

Lifebloom by Hologuardian 2013-05-11T16:28:00

Interesting concept. It ran for me (on Windows) but I'm afraid I didn't really understand the combat mechanism. Also it seemed that there were sometimes really long gaps between anything appearing. That said, it's an interesting mechanic so well done.

Employment by Fabien Porée 2013-04-29T15:14:00

Nice take on the current job market! As other people have said, the left mouse button doesn't work in month three, making it very difficult to complete.

Energy Era - 2D Platformer by ThomasCarterUK 2013-05-11T16:36:00

Really nice robot graphic. As other people have said, movement is a bit awkward.

A cube story by oskardevelopment 2013-05-11T16:19:00

Fun with great humour, if a little frustrating at times. Well done.

Shadows by jayemjee 2013-04-30T12:47:00

Nice idea and great art style. I found the actual gameplay mechanic pretty confusing. Maybe you could add more of an explanation here? What I didn't really understand was why blocks sometimes were destroyed and sometimes were not.

Game of Tao by flyingrobot 2013-05-11T14:48:00

Very nice game, well tied to the theme and well polished. The right level of difficulty too. All it could have done with is music!

Seven by Baknik 2013-04-29T21:07:00

Hey this is actually really good. And for your first LD as well! You should be really pleased. It's a nice use of the theme.

Darkness by LrdKzrth 2013-04-29T09:36:00

Not bad at all. Could be quite creepy actually if you added some gribbly creatures to eat you (although that might make the game less minimalist). You've done the lighting well.

Obviously it worked for me but I develop in DBP so I have everything set up for it. I'm on Windows 7 x64 and got the same blank screen at the start but a single left mouse click fixed that for me. For the people who can't get it to work, DBP is reliant on DirectX 9c so you'll need that to get it to run. LrdKzrth maybe you could include the DX9c installer in the download for the people who need it? And I didn't need admin permissions.

I noticed a couple of hitches (getting caught on rocks, white lines across the screen when the battery is about to die and the highlighted exit text displaying twice) but overall, a good showing. Well done.

The Minimalist Fisherman by Hiku 2013-04-29T17:05:00

Really nice art style. Love the lighting and the sea plants floating past. And the fishing is pretty good too. But 10,000 for a raft?? I'm going to be stuck fishing for a looong time ;).

My Hair Is On Fire by Ofursnati 2013-04-29T11:01:00

Rofl that's quite funny. Enemy stacking is a bit annoying as it means if you collide with the stack, you instantly die. Still a solid entry; well done.

Return Home by Manuel777 2013-04-29T10:40:00

Ah, takes me back to those long school lunchtimes playing ragdoll avalanche.

Good use of minimalist graphics. They are genuinely minimalist meaning that they look great through simplicity, rather than just being basic. I'm impressed by how entertaining you made the game. I ran the web version and it ran just fine; no lag at all. And the black hole is kind of evil!

The Unseen by Lamprabbit 2013-04-29T10:33:00

Really outstanding game; well done! I was so shocked when I did the first explosion and found out where I was! I think I was happier when it was all just blank squares ;). Excellent graphics and the sounds developed the mood wonderfully.

Like other people, I had a few issues with collisions and the graphics sometimes had problems when I didn't play in the default res and fullscreen. My biggest complaint is probably frustration. I've played for about 45 minutes and I still can't find my body. I'm not sure if it's actually there or whether you are making a profound point about the fruitlessness of seeking to undo the past or something!

Anyhow overall an outstanding entry. Really, really impressed.

Angry Reviewer by vgcharlienash 2013-04-30T12:06:00

Very cathartic for anyone who's ever published a game to an app store. Payback time at last!! Needs way more abusive words and would be nice if it added the score at the end. In fact, I've added a load more words to the copy I downloaded so I can use it next time I need to vent some frustration about stupid commenters ;). Well done.

Where is Pixel by ananasblau 2013-04-29T12:04:00

Not bad. Opera House on hard was very difficult I found. A few graphical hitches (I'm playing on Windows) but overall pretty good. I liked the soundtrack.

Mini Maze by Mago 2013-05-11T17:18:00

I thought you did this maze game very well. The distance you could see into the maze seemed about right and the levels were pretty well designed. Well done.

Forest for the Tree by iximeow 2013-05-11T17:04:00

Interesting mechanic! Took a bit of getting used to but once I did, I found it very interesting. I may be wrong but it seemed as though some nodes would be unreachable as they were outside of the spheres of any other nodes. Also it started lagging quite a bit once I built up a network covering around 1/2 - 2/3 of the entire thing. Zooming was quite a revelation! Nicely done.

The epicly short adventure by JaJ 2013-04-29T16:16:00

Fun to play and with a brilliant art style. Hand painting each room really paid off! Unfortunately I got stuck and gave up after about 20 minutes but I'll have another go later to see if I can get further. I was able to breath underwater but I never unlocked a longer jump so there were lots of places I still couldn't reach. Anyhow an excellent entry.

Plane View by Lucas Tiridath 2013-04-29T20:15:00

Hey thanks for the comments everyone.

@CMaster: The issue is probably not that the keys are not responding but rather that you simply just can't see that you are moving. The first level is so small that the camera remains static and therefore you appear to be moving about the screen. However as the later levels are larger than the game window, once you get far enough from the sides, the camera will start moving with you to keep to centred. If you keep them held down, you will eventually each and edge.

Squares by KunoNoOni 2013-04-30T07:02:00

Simple little game. Pretty well implemented. Nice particle effect when you die. Maybe show your time at the end?

Minimalism - the shoot 'em up by CiderPunk 2013-04-29T16:30:00

Simple and seems to be well implemented. Maybe the potatoes are a little too tough but all the same, well done.
