Cant play the game on OS X, trying to unzip the archive I get a "Error 1: Operation Not permitted" error from unarchive.
Which Java version am I supposed to run this with? Couldn't start it on my Win7-64bit/Java 1.6.0_25
i got the same error as adventureloop (also on OS X)
Worked for me. Win 7 64bit, java 1.7.0_04-b22 apparently.
Not very original, but still a somewhat interesting approach on this genre. Good job :D
I can't get it to run on Windows 7, the program doesn't throw up any errors when I run the JAR file. I tried starting it with javaw from the command line with no success.
Really good puzzle game! I miss sounds and music, the game play is really good.
Wouldn't run for me either. Win7-64bit.
Do you have JRE 1.7? Did you extract it from the zip? The thing is that if it's still in the zip when being run, it won't be able to load its data and won't start.
Also, I'll try to repack the game with a different algorithm. Apparently 7zip does some funky stuff.
Why so short? I wanna moooooore) Nice game)
Enjoyed the game. Sounds would have been nice. Day 3 is hard but I beat it on my 3rd attempt. Would buy this on android. You might consider doing an applet-version for the ease of playing for the next time.
This game is epic, super addicting, innovative. Its a bit hard at times but you should be proud of yourself, well done!
This was a cool take on the 'Match X' format and I think it works well
Whoa, thanks for the input!
1. I uploaded a new-rezipped version. Turns out using 7zip and tweaking the settings to save a few kb and feel like a zip hax0r is a no-no
2. Added notice: it requires Java 1.7!!!
Thanks for the feedback people!
@adventureloop: try it now, if not, I'll just rar it or something
@faijdherbe: see above
@phren: it needs 1.7, sorry
@Frib: thanks! :D The originality bit was the one that was supposed to be added next! xD
@Markavian: it needs Java 1.7 and it needs to be unzipped, so all assets can be loaded properly; do tell me if it still doesn't work!
@Thurig: thanks! Heh, sounds are definitely a priority if I ever get back to this (and I sure hope I do!)
@Arkazon: see the advice I gave Markavian
@mokujin: thanks! :D I'm afraid time got the better of me... Still better than the other LDs, though!
@madpew: I'm happy you enjoyed it! It's good to hear, especially since I've coded it in libgdx, which should make a potential port to Android a piece of cake; I actually think this game would be nice to play on a smartphone or a tablet!
@PeripheralGames: thanks! :D I was hoping to add some powerups to make it more strategic, but oh well...
@ollie: Thanks, I was aiming for something that's also familiar but also a bit different!
Same error as phren I'm afraid, again on Win7 SP1 x64. No error message; just doesn't start. Couldn't get the source to compile either as Eclipse couldn't find an entry point. Hope you can get this fixed because it looks like fun.
@Lucas Tiridath hmm, are you sure you are on java 1.7? Does a window briefly appear then close? Because this might mean trouble loading the assets.
I updated the source - it's way bigger now, but includes all the dependencies and most of the raw assets and .PSDs.
It should be just "download, build and run" now.
Can't play on OSX 10.5.8. Looked good from the screen shots
Updated again, should work with java 1.6 too.
Working now! Yes I was sure I was using Java 1.7. As it turns out, I was wrong... Hey, I'll still tired from making my entry! Anyhow very nice entry. Good use of the theme and I'm particularly impressed by the level of polish you have achieved in the time. Nice graphics + those little touches such as the new objects sliding down etc. make for a very good game. My only complaint is that level 3 seemed to require quite a lot of luck in the order the things dropped down. A great start. Where will the Minotaur go next though?
An old concept with a new twist. Great job! Love all the nice little touches such as the minotaur slightly moving, and the very idea of a minotaur in his underwear in the first place.
Glad I'm not the only one struggling on level 3. You should give the different items more distinct colours -- makes it much easier to spot large groups. The red ones are by far easiest to do :)
Managed to get it working. :)
I thought the game was nice, even though the basic gameplay was pretty standard. Picking only some items was an interesting twist and it's sad that you didn't have time to make more levels that use this idea, since it made the game a lot more fun to play. I would've liked to see some kind of indication how strong the castle is, so you'd know whether you stand a chance or not. The highlight you have for selections is nice and helps a lot while playing.
Good story about evolving from Game Maker to Java. ;)
Simple gameplay & good art makes it a good casual game!
@Lucas Tiridath: Thanks! :D Yeah, I was hoping to solve the luck aspect by adding more tools at the player's disposal, as well as other, more interesting block types and bonuses.
@Frozen Fractal: Nice, thanks for the feedback! :D And the red things spawn more easily due to the fact that they get spawned both as regular bricks, and as placeholders for what should have been bonus items... :P
@phren: Yay, I'm glad that you got it running in the end! It's great to get feedback - I'm really considering allocating some time to take this game further! :D
I knew Java a year ago, but I felt that Game Maker would be a better tool for developing a game in a short timespan, what with having a built-in level editor (and a rather nice one, even) as well as stuff like asset managers and the like. But I managed to do the same thing with libgdx, and it's easily portable to android, which is a plus.
@dekart: thanks! :)
Nice game but I didn't notice the instructions on the right until the third level or so.
I think, I'll be fine on devices with touch screens. Graphics implementation is fine an funny in this game.
Smart meta-game curveball at the theme!
The visuals are excellent, love the minotaur and how it changes as more gear is added. Perhaps not entirely in line with the theme but a good game with the potential to be developed further.
Wow ,that escalated quickly, level 3 is my best.
I like the idea of using a classic game to find out a way to gear up a fighter ( ogre ), next step, go to the castle and take the fight? (another game) beautiful
:) I enjoyed playing your game. If there hab been more time you could have improved a few things. The time could be a bar or should a leas have more contrast. There could be a break before each day to have time for reading the text. I didn't even notice that the minotaur changes his appearance, because I was concentrated on collecting items. And in the short time I did not understand whether the helmet or the shirt is armor (or both?) - are the red things for swimming?. And it took one round to understand the importance of the attack-button ^^ But it was good to see a nice story around this classic concept.
