LD19 — Discovery

Abarrane by refrag 2010-12-30T14:36:00

Neat! Made me want to keep playing just to see what imaginative kind of 'enemy' would represent the next obstacle :) I would have liked to be able to speed up the text flow, though; and sometimes the pauses between attack/counterattack events felt a bit long - but maybe that's necessary to keep from rushing too fast ;)

Aquatic by Riley Adams 2011-01-01T15:10:00

Awesome game!
Everything works very well; I found it especially amazing how much those robot arms contribute to the immersion & actually panicked a bit upon first getting lost too far out :D Really great!

PRIOR by krangGAMES 2010-12-30T22:41:00

Really great game.
While trying to get a third ending (turning left at "Welcome"), I rushed without reading any previous notes & had to discover that all the new notes read "You belong here", quitting the game. That was a major turnoff and made me quit after the fifth attempted playthrough. Is that intentional, or am I supposed to collect every note along the way?

Autoflotilla by Sparky 2010-12-30T20:26:00

Really cool idea & execution; my only gripe with this build is that all the windmills are ever-so-slightly out of reach.
Big props for doing it in Processing, though :D

Search&Bump by Balooga03 2010-12-30T21:31:00

The tension in the moment just before hitting a supposed capsule make that 'Bing!' really hit the spot!
Maybe it would play even better if the momentum of the ship was less awkward & the planets would be slowly moving.

LD24 — Evolution

Survival of Polyminos by Kalabasa 2012-08-31T17:53:00

Excellent idea, evolution picks up a little slow though - either that, or my tetris skills are just too bad to get the ball rolling ;)

Bored Bob by OmarShehata 2012-08-28T20:48:00

Outstanding! The pieces fit really well together: the soft music and the winged protagonists flying over snow-covered mountain ranges convey a sort of solemn piety, contrasted very fittingly by those scattered piano notes of violence :)

I especially like the faces of those minions; some of them are not too happy about being drafted for your purposes :D

Cosmogonie by Spotline 2012-08-29T00:22:00

Beautiful!

Kill It by Mythalore 2012-08-29T21:38:00

Hah! Nice one.
I like the graphics and layout in their bold simplicity. I also adore how 'attacking' makes the protagonist smack the blob regardless of the weapon (sword, spear, assault rifle) used :D Very cool.

LimiT by Sakuyan 2012-08-29T01:01:00

Fine little katamari-like with a twist ending :) Nice!

Oculus Battalion by Maxium 2012-08-28T21:02:00

I like the idea and especially the graphics, but I had difficulties minding both my NPCs and myself – multitasking under pressure, guess :P
The controls felt rather wonky, but I'll blame part of that on my mouse, which is often polled far too sensitive by Unity in general.

Mystic Evolution Quest by garywiss6 2012-08-30T16:16:00

It's very rough and there is not much to do but hey, you've made a game! Congratulations! :)

Chrysalis Choice by RobKat 2012-08-29T00:06:00

Not really a game per se, but a very nice approach to the theme. I wonder if a slightly more involved system - with more functions than just 'attaching', putting more weight on player intent, having the growth assemble less randomly - would already remedy the perceived lack of control over the results. But then again, it could also destroy the beautiful simplicity...

Path to a New Species by vvinters 2012-08-29T11:27:00

I got frustrated after typing all the permutations that I could think of for 5 minutes without the parser recognizing any one of them. The IF systems that Porpentine mentioned have some nice approaches to orient the player and ease the experience; maybe you can take some inspiration from there. It would be a shame if your work went to waste just because of inacessability.

Death Hockey by Toby 2012-08-31T17:34:00

Awesome! Good basic idea, nice controls and graphics, 150% Boost for the janitor! :D

Neurochronic Alien Fighter: Evolution! by Ken Reismann 2012-08-29T11:30:00

Please do, because right now the script exits with an Error saying it's missing pygame.

Culture Clash by Back to Browse Entries 2012-08-29T11:54:00

I found the evolution cycles too long, especially since there is not much going on in that petri dish :) I also got the feeling that the evolutionary perks were of diminished consequence because of the low difficulty in general. Aside from that this game looks and plays pretty solid, e.g. the assets are complete and fit very well together.

My "Game", Stones and Lasers by RawringPenguins 2012-08-29T11:58:00

Same here, for both the web and the offline version :(

Demonevolution by JonathanGerlach 2012-08-29T12:05:00

It felt very futile to play this - there is no way to see which minions are stronger than others before attacking, so there is apparently nothing else to do than run into all the minions. I have no idea how to 'improve my playing', which was obviously not good enough, because I died before becoming a demon.

Bubble Wars by taires 2012-08-29T12:19:00

Kept me playing for quite a while, although 'evolution' appeared random - my attacks changed properties rather wildly between fights. Would love to see this developed with more focus on player intent.

And I believe you could mark the file as 'Web', since Flash also runs on other platforms than windows.

Who cares evolution? by bukt 2012-08-31T17:14:00

Fun! Although the controls could be tighter, and - God's shoe is awfully small :)

Death Cell by fohx 2012-08-31T20:15:00

The music and atmosphere are magnificent!

Triple Threat by rylgh 2012-08-28T20:19:00

Nice game! I really liked the impossible mind-jumble of thinking up the most effective movements for the particular configuration at any moment, and how changing it every round 'shuffles the deck' each time :)

Darwin's Ark (Web) by DevoreUK 2012-08-29T00:43:00

This hits the sweet spot between too little and too much choice & interaction in evolution! :) I found myself cringing in despair - when I could not do anything to help the Mincertrons _right_now_ - or exhilarated - when an evolutionary choice worked out just splendid - on several occasions. Really involving little game!

Jump'o'lution by N0W33t0rs 2012-08-31T17:02:00

Cool concept! Of course, as others have already noted, it can be very frustrating - but I guess that's part of the deal :)

Nom Noms: Evolution by sboerwinkle 2012-08-28T17:13:00

+1 on the above :(

Nom Noms: Evolution by sboerwinkle 2012-08-29T10:55:00

Quite rough around the edges, but a nice idea. Even though enemies evolving to escape a player with fixed attributes means that at some point, the levels become unbeatable :)

Feesh. by Teejay5 2012-08-31T17:10:00

Congrats on your first game! Like others, this reminded me of flOw. And katamari damashi ;)
In the beginning it was hard to judge the speed without reference points, e.g. when there are no other feesh on screen. It was easy going once I found them, though.

Cellar by San 2012-08-28T17:11:00

I was unable to play this because it requires Mac OS 10.8, and I'm still on 10.6; trying to compile from source also failed because of some dependencies on 10.8.
It would be really cool if you could supply more builds (hell, I'd even take windows :)).

Maple by zazery 2012-08-31T18:15:00

Love the sounds & the atmosphere of a slow-moving space vehicle! Although the core mechanic is of course very Captain Forever, I wouldn't ditch it just for that; there are a lot of things that CF does not even remotely explore, and I'd say that 'shooting things' is only one among the many cool scenarios one can imagine in space. How about space station docking maneuver simulation, for instance? :)

Lepidopter Attack by dwrensha 2012-08-28T17:37:00

The idea of enemies getting meaner by natural - erm, player selection :) is not bad.
I found the game not fun, though, mostly because there is no clear indication of what kills the moths - is it just ball contact, or does it require a certain amount of force? The correlation between my clicking and them dying was not that clear, and with balls jumping all around, I did not feel any real control over the selection process.

Robot wars by laaph 2012-08-28T17:47:00

It is very difficult to become engaged in this because the player has absolutely no control over the action and no real stake in the results. The depiction and characterization of the combatants only through numbers and subtle color changes leaves a lot to be desired. I would have liked to be more emotionally involved as a player!

EvoWord by jovoc 2012-08-28T17:53:00

Hey, this looks interesting, but I get a crash report on Mac OS 10.6; something about "Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libSDL-1.2.0.dylib". Will try the windows version later on.

Dawkemon by Luthwyhn 2012-08-28T18:15:00

Are there any more rooms than the four test chambers in the lab? Because I could not find them; it was very hard to stay oriented without directional clues (like "to the west there is a door that leads outside"), relying only on the cardinal directions apparent from the menu. I also encountered 2 game-ending, unwinnable fights withing the first four rooms, which is not the way that 'fun' is usually spelled :(

A hint at which of the numerous .py-files runs the actual game (Dawkemon.py) would have been a nice gesture, too.

A Game of Life by cptroot 2012-08-28T18:20:00

Hey, this unzips into a directory called 'pp' which has the structure of an app bundle, but isn't one. If I turn it into one by appending .app to the name, it won't run regardless. Can you fix this?

minogear by Andrei Barsan 2012-08-31T17:24:00

Smart meta-game curveball at the theme!

Upward Mankind by chamberlainpi 2012-08-28T20:29:00

The music is cool, but the rest of the game could really have used a bit more diversion; right now the only real 'challenge' is to not fall into a pit. Thumbs up on the color choices! :)

The World Hates You by mcc 2012-08-28T18:41:00

I concur: this is a consistent experience like the previous comment indicates. The scope is clear, the execution is clean and tight. Controls work very well.

I would welcome a button for 'This level is evidently possible, but not for me'. Also: The World Hates YOU for naming your file LD24.zip – can you imagine how many of those I have flying around right now?

Darwin's Apple by demonpants 2012-08-28T18:45:00

In fact, the link does not even work. Did you just post this to tell us how busy you are?

Darwin's Apple by demonpants 2012-08-31T16:48:00

Nice Ultima-like vibe going there :) Although I like the navigation and field-of-view mechanic, it made it hard to keep track of the NPCs while walking through the forest. Breeding sometimes got difficult because the stats of the NPCs overlap when they stand too close to each other. Aside from that, surprisingly complete game!

Schrodinger's Kittens by IQpierce 2012-08-28T18:58:00

Cool idea! I like the two-tiered motivation that crops up: first, save the red kitten as long as possible - afterwards, save just any kitten :)

By the way, you could mention Zynga more often :/ Seriously though, I'm here for your game, not your employment history.

Ludum Card Evolution by Atridas 2012-08-28T19:31:00

I'm afraid this fails on my Mac OS 10.6 with Java version 1.6.0_33 saying:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: cat/atridas87/ld24/LD24 : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0

Are there any dependencies one should know about?

Concealing the truth by Mesene 2012-08-29T21:32:00

This is a fun idea & the graphics are nicely done, but the gameplay could use some variation :P

Edric Garran's Amazing Shooter by edric_garran 2012-08-28T19:16:00

Is it possible for you to create an executable for this? I'd like to avoid installing Go right now...

AdapTanks by Cross 2012-08-28T20:02:00

I found this game rather hard due to the fast bullets and the enemies' tendency to spawn right next to the player, so I only ever got 5-10 kills. I'd have loved to see the evolution more pronounced, but I guess that's what I get for being bad at the game ;) The looping background music and the high-pitched shooting sound were quite annoying, tho.

And Thus She Spake by pbdiode 2012-08-29T21:25:00

This is fun! I like that touching bigger or poisonous blobs does not instantly kill you, but gives a bit of leeway, making navigation a lot easier.
Once I discovered that you can zip around almost unharmed when jerking the mouse fast enough, it even became a bit too easy ;)

Pasazh by harusame 2012-08-31T16:17:00

Nice game, quite polished pixel art!

Evu for life by dector 2012-08-31T16:25:00

Although I applaud the idea and the completeness of the execution, I was quickly frustrated by the controls and the level design; I got the impression that my input only moved the player very slowly, while other forces - gravity or flying - moved him very quickly.
