LD24 — Evolution

Papillon by ChevyRay 2012-09-09T09:34:00

Definitely the best entry I've played so far and it'll take some beating. The lack of sound was disappointing but was more than made up for with the amount of content.

I kept the game open for about a week in a tab in my browser as I couldn't defeat the laser boss and had to keep trying now and then; eventually managed to complete it.

Sporee by tdsmale 2012-08-27T11:02:00

Same as everyone else's comments really, although moving around and capturing other particles does increase score, it doesn't seem necessary and the game looks more like a simulation of something

Dracolution by Tsurara 2012-08-27T11:34:00

Cool little game with good use of the theme. Combat was hard but fun to try and figure out how to best go about killing the knights.

DNA Wars by nka 2012-09-02T00:48:00

Seems like a solid puzzle/tower defence game. I think I'm too stupid to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing (despite reading the instructions) but from what I played I liked it

Badass by Sos 2012-08-27T21:41:00

Like others have said, a bit button mash-y but I think that's fine for this style of game. Some of the art was really cool and it feels like a pretty complete 'thing'

EVILUTION by GothFraex 2012-08-27T11:12:00

I instantly died the first time I started the game lol.

Restarted and managed to run away and explore the maze. Love the graphics - the vines help to set the mood well.

Gameplay mechanic is simple but works really well. I'm not sure where the theme comes into the design though (other than the title) - I thought the maze might have been generated or something but it looked the same to me.

Regardless, one of the better games I've played so far

Chrysalis Choice by RobKat 2012-08-27T22:12:00

I like the idea but there's no real win or lose state. I get the message that you were going for though so it communicated that effectively.

The music set the mood well too, so I carried on 'playing' past the point of 'getting it' just because of that

Germa by Whiteclaws 2012-08-27T22:58:00

Game format was pretty standard, well done though. Wasn't a massive fan of the controls as it was pretty hard to control my direction (and ended up stuck in a corner for a while)

Extinction Evader by ollie 2012-08-27T10:53:00

I got my girlfriend to play test it and she said the buttons disappearing looked like a glitch - maybe I shouldn't of ignored her... They do disappear after a while when you max out that evolution otherwise you could be 1px wide or be travelling the whole width of the stage in a single frame. I needed to explain the evolution a lot better I think.

The lose scenario is just when you run out of health, I had some problems with figuring out the balance of how difficult it should be so it's probably fairly easy.

And the kittens hurt you because they are evil (and because I remembered the kitten challenge just before I submitted :P)

Extinction Evader by ollie 2012-08-27T11:18:00

Thanks RandomM00

- I didn't realise negative health was happening, should've done <= regardless really, it was pretty careless of me

- Cool thanks, I actually didn't think of that and the abrupt disappearance of trails was bugging me (as was some of them being off centre) but I ran out of time before I could look into it. Will add them to the world next time.

- I couldn't figure out Pixel level collision within Flashpunk because I didn't know how to access the BitmapData of an Entity. It bugged me too which is why I ended up giving the dinosaur a large square head so it filled the hitbox :P

Thanks for the detailed feedback

Vesuvius by Joker 2012-08-27T10:13:00

I had a similar experience to Senekis - I wasn't sure what to do as I kept dying on that big drop. It has potential though and the audio set the mood well

My Apartment by SpectreNectar 2012-08-27T11:42:00

Very cool idea that was done well

Hard Life 3X by echa 2012-08-27T10:35:00

Cool concept and pretty challenging. I couldn't get past the first level (level select only let me click the top item even when it said 27/25) but I might be missing something. Having to swipe over more than one with the things that bounce you around is a cool idea and was very well executed

Myxolous by theomnis 2012-08-27T10:26:00

The world seems cool and there's tons of potential for a game like this, but I wasn't sure what was going on or what I was doing. The lack of audio and tactile feedback made it hard to set all the pieces in context so I didn't really know my role in the game - I sat back and watched and it ran like a simulation

UPix by Xaychru 2012-08-27T21:34:00

Can't get it to run on my laptop (Win 7 64-bit). Un-rar'd the file, then the English rar but the Upix.exe just hangs for a few seconds then does nothing

Unnatural Selection by goffmog 2012-09-12T20:01:00

Had fun with it, got to the endgame and couldn't use my death ray though (as you mentioned above) which was disappointing but the concept was cool and I liked the style of it

Sun God by Switchbreak 2012-09-09T09:09:00

Took me a minute to get what I was supposed to be doing but I really liked it when I did. I never managed to get an asteroid to orbit a planet completely which made me sad hehe. I only played the Compo version but it seemed really polished and a lot for only 48hrs

minogear by Andrei Barsan 2012-08-27T09:51:00

This was a cool take on the 'Match X' format and I think it works well

R/evolution by AdamHarte 2012-09-09T08:49:00

Cool idea, though the physics confused me sometimes as they didn't quite do what I was expecting. Also, way too addictive :P

OF SPECIES by kato9 2012-08-27T23:11:00

The look and feel of this is awesome and really creates an atmosphere. I was a little disappointed at the ending as the gameplay was a little thin on the ground, but overall it was cool and reminded me of some of the Assassins Creed Subject 16 stuff

Slime Slayer by Mjiig 2012-08-27T10:48:00

The premise of being tasked to kill off the slimes and then them waking up and multiplying is cool, I don't think the gameplay matches up to that unfortunately. The core concept works well but there isn't much feedback telling you what's going on

Literally; Earth Shaping by adventureloop 2012-08-27T10:30:00

Couldn't run this on Win 7 64-bit. PlayWindows.sh flashed up the command prompt but didn't seem to have any result, running the jar file resulted in a Jave Exception

Space Amoebas by bigbadwofl 2012-08-27T10:21:00

I really liked this; the backing music was great, and the graphics were really cool too. The gameplay is relatively standard without an ultimate goal (other than to survive) but I enjoyed it

Super Charles Darwin by gnx 2012-08-29T23:26:00

Fun game but (As other people have said) pretty hard! Some of the graphics are really cool, especially the protagonist and the dinosaurs. I liked the humour of it too

Evoland by ncannasse 2012-09-10T22:32:00

By far my favourite game I've played from LD24. Couldn't find any flaws. I only got 7 coins and 35 chests which infuriates me though :P
