Fun little game :)

phren 2012-08-27 12:25

The game felt quite nice to play. Had a hard time getting forwards since I pumped all my upgrades into damage in the beginning. :P The sounds were pretty standard sfxr stuff, I guess they were better than nothing.

A game design issue was the regeneration - it was best to just go hide behind a crate with shields on to wait for your health to regenerate. This made the tempo quite a bit slower than it should've been.

The graphics were pretty good, especially the scientists.

phren 2012-08-27 12:27

Also: For next time, please zip it instead of rar. :)

vordux 2012-08-27 12:33

The progression of the game was quite slow, and the jump in difficulty from the levels was rather drastic. I liked how you incorporated a variety of effects, for instance the floating particles after a pickup.

I liked the oldschool feel of the game, reminded me of some dungeon crawlers back in the day.

The surfaces that effect the player were also a nice touch.

Overall, quite enjoyable, just sometimes slow to progress.

dalbinblue 2012-08-27 12:45

Pretty fun. Ended up dying at what I think is the boss.

khayet 2012-08-27 13:00

Those are some crazy scientists - dropping acid all over the floor while carrying rocket launchers! O.O
I have nothing to complain about, except maybe the slow health regeneration. :)
Fun fact: we had similar story ideas, but your implementation is much better.

lucas-tiridath 2012-08-27 14:18

Really liked your graphics; especially the pulsating mutant that you play as (and also the particle effects in freeze/fire breath). Good amount of variety and content. Well done.

ponte 2012-08-27 22:58

It was fun. Good work!^^

nickolai51 2012-08-28 13:48

Nice game, really quite fun! But as others have said, waiting for health to come back is slow...

zoomyzoom 2012-08-28 17:57

Fun & Satisfying. Nice game!

kevincorrigan 2012-08-28 20:04

sorry, like all the other xna games I've tried It wont run on my computer(Graphics card)

echa 2012-08-28 22:17

Boss killed me!

gidaio 2012-08-28 23:47

I enjoyed this game immensely. It was well done, I didn't see any bugs, and as others have said, I really enjoyed the feel it gave off.

xmmmx 2012-08-29 14:58

Thanks everybody for playing my game. :)

Yes, the problem about the regeneration thing is that I haven't implemented a proper AI for the scientists. It would have been much more challenging if they started chasing you around the obstacles after they had spotted you. I really underestimated the 48 hours.

@phren
Thank you for your feedback.
I am sorry for the sounds. I don't know any free music/sound generation programs apart from sfxr (which I met at this contest^^).
And yes, next time .zip. :)

ulixava 2012-08-29 17:14

I didn't quite catch the real objective in the game. I was walking around as the professors started shooting at me. They tried shooting at me even if I was behind a wall of some sort - Really bad AI.

aarongordon 2012-08-29 21:42

I like the style and ideas behind this. But i couldn't figure out for the life of me what to do. I couldn't attack or use the shield, (i read your readme but it didn't help) maybe giving the player a weapon from the start would be good, if I'm just stupid and missed it. Really no reason not to.

xmmmx 2012-08-29 23:17

@AaronGordon [may contain spoilers]
I am sorry, I should have explained this better. The goal is just to escape from the laboratory.
You start out with no abilities and you get your first ability in level 2 and your first offensive ability in level 3. That's why I wrote "(Later)" in the readme. During the first two levels you just have to avoid the armed scientists (or find a different way to deafeat them).

imef 2012-08-30 14:48

Nice little game! The graphics are good too!

rohit 2012-08-31 00:14

Fun little game, and also died at the "boss" (the multi-eyed thing).

maxium 2012-08-31 07:07

Fun and had some nice graphics. Took about 14 minutes to download though :/

cakemonitor 2012-09-01 10:04

Great little game - especially good for a first Ludum Dare attempt! I felt it perhaps was a little slow to get going and the (final?) boos was too difficult so when I died there I didn't want to play through again all the way from the beginning.

Some music would round it off nicely - check out this link: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2011/12/13/if-you-find-it-hard-to-make-music-read-this/

xmmmx 2012-09-01 22:08

Thanks everybody again. :)

@cakemonitor
Thanks for your feedback.
The final boss was just something I quickly added to make the game a little bit more challenging at the end. It's true that he is really hard to beat since I didn't spend enough time testing him.
(As I already wrote earlier I ran out of time ^^)

Thank you for the link.
Autotracker-Bu seems to be exactly what I was looking for but somehow the link seems to be broken. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Is there a special way to start it or do I just have to open it in the browser? (I already installed python 2.7 but the link seems to be a problem)

susanthecat 2012-09-02 14:14

I had fun with this game. I liked that you didn't have to kill the scientists to achieve your goal. I liked the difficulty progression. I got a chance to get used to the controls before things got difficult.

lekochen 2012-09-04 13:08

Simple and fun.

kibertoad 2012-09-07 22:34

Boss was too difficult and for some reason could corner you by following into the starting room, which didn't seem logical. Other than that, game turned out to be surprisingly fun. Thumbs up!

cipher 2012-09-08 09:02

Cannot find a device that supports the XNA framework HiDef profile

skulls 2012-09-09 05:14

I HATE LIVES SO MUCH WHY DO PEOPLE USE THIS ARCHAIC MECHANIC.

skulls 2012-09-09 05:14

I HATE LIVES SO MUCH WHY DO PEOPLE USE THIS ARCHAIC MECHANIC. I had fun playing the game but when I had to restart because I ran out of lives I was upset.

josh-dreamland 2012-09-09 13:18

Yeah, XNA and WINE don't get along, either.

mitkus 2012-09-10 18:22

Controls were not the best, but I liked the game. It was nice that you can't to any damage up until level three, it made for some interesting scientist avoiding.

rawbits 2012-09-16 07:24

This is one of those fancy highly detailed graphics games that won't run with my gfx card...
