LD24 — Evolution

DeviLock by Misfit 2012-08-28T18:06:00

Nice controls and simple focused gameplay. Although at the start of the game I was unsure as to what I was doing. I didn't realize the evolution happened automatically when you were near, and i crashed into the base and the grass while trying to figure it all out (the base looks exactly like a wall). The audio is good and fits the visual style, but i felt the theme wasn't really central to the game.

Also web version doesn't seam to work.

All in all nice job for 48 hours!

AvRvE by Cake&Code 2012-08-28T17:54:00

I liked the graphics, very crisp and high quality visuals and audio. Interesting concept but evolution was only loosely tied into the story and not the gameplay. Still nice job with the puzzle designs!

Ancient Ruins by CappaGames 2012-08-28T19:27:00

Really like the gameplay and the general feel of it. Fits the theme well and was fun to play. No audio tho and it's a bit annoying that you have to start all the way from the beginning when you die. Good work guys!

Evolution Jumper by UntitledQ 2012-08-29T21:48:00

Fantastic use of the theme. I really enjoyed mixing the different strands of dna. Maybe it would have been nice if i could fight back against the crab things, but really nice job!

Ameeba's by Vurb 2012-08-28T19:23:00

Nice graphics and audio. I also really like the concept, but I'm not really sure what i was supposed to be doing. Took be ages to realize that was a door and i got the the end of the level pretty quickly after that. Still not sure what the other npc's did apart from change appearance.

evolving by pjchardt 2012-08-29T20:24:00

Nice work. I really enjoyed the concept, mood and simple graphics. I played all the way to level 8 but got stuck in the geometry and had to quit. Music was nice but you could have done without the plucking parts which were very grating. Very nice game overall!

Super Darwin by sev_inf 2012-08-29T21:18:00

Good ideas and the level design flows quite well. However i feel a bit underpowered playing as Darwin. i just held down the attack button and kept running. I think maybe giving him another attack or with a cool down would have helped a lot. I do really like the visual style and the music is quite nice.

SURVIVE by Ragzouken 2012-08-29T21:24:00

Really cool concept. Feels quite similar to osmos. Was a bit confusing at the beginning, and can get a bit chaotic. Awesome art and nice sfx's. Nice job!

Cannibal Slugmage of Eden by triliyn 2012-08-29T21:30:00

Good ideas, and I'd like to see this polished up. But i think you guys bit off a bit more than you could chew for a 72 hour game jam. Learn from it and come back stronger!

GeometryEvo by dvdking 2012-08-28T17:47:00

I liked the visual style of this game. Well done in a minimalist setting. Game play was also suitably minimalistic which you did well to split up into different shapes.I liked the story but the game didn't really stick to the theme of evolution.

But for 48 hours on your own, really good going!

Ontogeny by Shugor 2012-08-28T20:49:00

I really like the ideas behind this, and the simple nature of the game play. However i haven't been able to get past the first level, the spikes always insta kill me. And i'm not sure what the evolved forms do. With some more playtesting and better designed levels (better generated) this could be really good. Nice job for a 3 day jam!

RUN DINO RUN ! by Grouflon 2012-08-28T21:01:00

Very good entry, fun and easy to play although it's very hard i places and the concept is lifted straight from dino run.

Journey of life by 1176Studios 2012-08-28T19:46:00

I really like the theme in this game, and the humor in it is great. I will say the first level is very frustrating as the enemies randomly spawn, and you can just instantly die. If they were to spawn from the sides of the screen it wouldn't be a problem. The second level felt a bit boring and was not very challenging and the slow scroll of text was very boring to wait. But in any case well done! Just needed a bit more play testing and tweaking!

Flrrr by spx 2012-08-29T21:59:00

Liked the theme and the trippy visuals. I didn't really feel challenged in the game tho. Am i missing something or do you simply have to walk to the end, avoiding the other colours? Also i love the idea of the music evolving, but it can get very jarring very quickly. Nice job though!

Bigfoot Rescue by shines 2012-08-28T19:34:00

I like the concept, but the levels that were designed are incredibly basic and sell your game short. Also i don't see any real reason to have to place the love shack, you could have just placed this somewhere in the level.

Survivalism by Walt 2012-08-29T21:35:00

I can't seam to play the game. The window just flickers, and i have to force quit. I'm running windows 32bit.

ROLL PAPER, ROLL!! by Lapinou 2012-08-28T20:57:00

Very nice idea and simple mechanics. A bit clunky i found tho, and i'm not sure how this fits to the theme.

Evolve or GTFO! by cptalbertwesker 2012-08-29T21:04:00

I like the fact that you went for a different take on evolution. I didn't really have any motivation to do anything in the game tho. Also i just spent a lot of time waiting with nothing to do. It just felt like i was going through the motions. Maybe having some effects that building certain things have would be nice.

3 Apples High by Dayko 2012-08-28T18:28:00

Nice little game! Pretty good going. I liked the endless levels, although i couldn't help but feel 1 more negative item to avoid would have helped. Nice procedural generation and animations. Good job!

Alien Rockpool by DustyStylus 2012-08-28T21:07:00

Nice concepts, and i enjoyed the humor and art style. I found it a bit easy as i could just hold down shoot but overall nice work!

Octo-Darwin Vs Bat-Monkey by AaronGordon 2012-08-29T03:02:00

Thanks for giving it a play and for all your feedback guys!

It is a pretty hard game or sure. You have to shoot about 2/3 objects (as well as jumping the obstacles) if you want to stay ahead of Octo-Darwin! We play tested this quite a bit and you'll always stay ahead of him if you shoot and dodge everything.

The procedural generation of objects isn't perfect but these are checks in place to make sure that you'll never get 3 obstacles in a row with nothing to shoot.

We've also just got a web version working for anyone having problems with the zip.

Any feedback is more than welcome!

Octo-Darwin Vs Bat-Monkey by AaronGordon 2012-08-29T21:51:00

Yeah, we tried to fix that bit just didn't have the time to constrain the mouse or make it resolution independent (to make it full screen). Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

Kitty Breeder 2012 by turnip 2012-08-29T20:10:00

Really fantastic entry, the best I've played so far (including all the jam entries). Simple mechanics but very addictive gameplay, made me laugh as well. Quite hard, i never got past the blue kitten stage, but that's alright. Only slight complaint is that the yellow and green kittens look very similar and it's hard to pick the small ones out.

Really top notch work!

The Distressing Evolution Adventure of Dr. Cain by HappyFunRock 2012-08-28T20:09:00

Nice use of the theme and the voice over work. I found it very unclear that i needed to collect dna to jump and spent a while just walking into blobs and walls. Funny audio as well. All in all a very nice job!

Experiment X by XmmmX 2012-08-29T21:42:00

I like the style and ideas behind this. But i couldn't figure out for the life of me what to do. I couldn't attack or use the shield, (i read your readme but it didn't help) maybe giving the player a weapon from the start would be good, if I'm just stupid and missed it. Really no reason not to.

A Dinosaur's Struggle by DeWe 2012-08-29T19:51:00

Nice work! I laughed at the Normandy being built by the t-rex, and i played through it twice to see how i evolved differently. Would have been cool to have these changes appearing after the end of each level, to get more of a feel of progression. Good job!

Dragonkin EVO by bobiniki 2012-08-28T18:17:00

The first level lakes way to long because you move so slowly and it's very frustrating at times. Not really fun for me. I died at the second level (items are almost indistinguishable from each other) and didn't feel like continuing. Also the fit to the evolution theme was a massive stretch.

Sorry, this is way WAY more than i could have done in 48 hours on my own, but I've got to score you against everyone else. Maybe in future try and pick something with a smaller scope, so that you don't have to create essentially several different games in one.

Curiosity, The Untold Story by Zoomyzoom 2012-08-28T19:11:00

Nicely structured around the theme. I like the zombies evolving but i felt they did this way to slowly. Also after about 20 second i was ready to use another gun but it took far to long to be able to purchase and upgrade things (i only borght the shotgun before i stopped playing). I commend you for having all these options but with more options these needs to be more balancing and play testing done. Maybe having access to all the guns and being able to upgrade them all much quicker and the zombies become resilient much faster would play better. Also it felt pretty off having the projectiles effected by gravity.

All that being said, it was an enjoyable game and a really good effort!

TreeVolve by GetFun 2012-08-28T20:21:00

I really like your idea. With workers gathering resources and having to protect them. Nice audio and graphics. I did however find the game very easy with no balancing whatsoever of powers or enemies. Different enemy types would be really nice. Also I couldn't close mine down and had to ctrl alt del out of the game, which isn't very pleasant.

Untitled by Pitʶik4 2012-08-29T20:38:00

Liked the idea. And the link to evolution is string. Although There is very little food to pick up and there's quite a few major bugs (i can clone for free and my clones can hurt me) Audio is ok, and i like the visual style. Just needed more play testing i recon and you'd be on to something really nice.

Encarmine by Sailerius 2012-08-28T20:38:00

Well presented and very well written. But i can't really justify this as a game. Very little player involvement and I don't see how this fits in with evolution at all in any way. For all I know you could have worked on this story or months and just submitted it for this competition.

Again, very well done at what it tries to do. But this isn't right for this competition.

500 years by imef 2012-08-28T21:04:00

Great work. Fits the theme very well, but i wasn't sure what i was doing most of the time. Anyway a really good entry!

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Clean Quickly by Lyonsbanner 2013-08-27T22:06:00

Great idea. I like how fast paced the game feels and the responsiveness of the controls. I wish there was something else to collect or something while cleaning. Something to give me more time back on the clock etc. Nevertheless, great work!

Xyloctopus by iterative deepening 2013-08-27T22:25:00

Looks fantastic. Love the idea although i didn't really understand what to do for a long while, and the key combinations to record are hard to remember and use. Also i didn't get any sound on chrome.

Choice Matters by donan 2013-08-27T22:13:00

Good job! Played it a few times to get to the end. Loved the intro and the ending. At first I didn't get that there was a proper aim and it took a while for me to find my way to the other room. But I played it to the end so maybe that wasn't so bad!

The Village of Lost Time by EpaceGames 2013-08-27T21:57:00

Awesome! Love the use of the theme and the art style is fantastic. A bit hard to figure out what to do at times and it did become a repetitive after the third guy. Very impressive on the whole!

Trouble In Platformville by johnfn 2013-08-27T22:48:00

Feels really nice to control and the humor is pretty good. I love the slow down mechanic and jumping off of bullets. I kinda feel like the 100 seconds instead is kinda cheating, and having that extra time limit doesn't really add anything to the game. Would have been cool if the focus was on the slow down and maybe you can only do that for a total of 10 seconds? Great game regardless! Very impressive :)

Time Blocks by scottwashi 2013-08-27T22:51:00

Really nice idea! Would love it if there was some indication of these being physics enables shapes, it took me ages of clicking and by chance them falling together to figure it out.

10 Second Tactics by Schwiggy 2013-08-27T22:20:00

Nice use of the theme, great take on rts style gameplay. The controls take a bit of getting used to and some of the bigger levels felt weird as i could only move my guys a tiny amount (loads of small levels would have been great). Amazing work overall!

Fire, Ice, and Purple by Andrew 2013-08-27T23:00:00

Great concept. I felt very confused at first however. I didn't realize the squares at the start were buttons and i clicked level 3 to start. I also got a bug on the web version which wouldn't use mouse movement to look around. Good job overall!

You can't kill the Devil. But your baby can by onzephyr 2013-08-27T22:32:00

Nice responsive controls, addictive gameplay and awesome graphics! The humor fell a bit flat for me (not the subject matter, just a personal thing) but it's got a great mood! Good job!

10 Seconds Hero by lucas_gaspar 2013-08-27T22:38:00

Nice idea to swap between 2 game states after 10 seconds. Movement feels really nice and fluid. I found it very hard to stay alive though and haven't once lived through the second 10 seconds. If the enemies were slower and the robots didn't come in until the second time you turn human that would be cool. With a bit more balancing I recon it would be really nice!

LD28 — You Only Get One

Data Stains by Evilion 2013-12-17T18:24:00

Great eye candy but hard to figure out if there's a goal in particular.

Asteroids:Omega by peacegiverman 2013-12-17T23:27:00

Great concept. Very challenging. I didn't realize you could move until i was boxed in by other ships! Some of the layouts felt a bit random as well, like i just fired and hoped (maybe that's just me). Overall, very nice!

Space Worm by rolfeth 2013-12-17T20:47:00

Looks intersting. Unfortunately I couldn't get the game to run on windows 7 64bit.

Console Wars 3D by wezrule 2013-12-17T20:28:00

Funny concept! Liking the direction taken and very ambitious.

Shot At Glory by unpronounceable 2013-12-17T20:37:00

A very challenging and rewarding game. Quite visually pleasing!

One minute to see the world by pinion 2013-12-17T20:40:00

A very visually pleasing game, I enjoyed the frantic maze-searching.

Toast! by Ismei 2013-12-17T21:16:00

I found myself going back into the game just to read all of the other options. Very cute ^^

Tank Blast by asimilon 2013-12-17T23:21:00

Liked the concept of trying to find your enemy. Had a bit of trouble seeing the enemy at the start though. Would have been nice if the camera was able to follow your shell all the way so you can see where you're firing. All working and a pretty solid game, nice one!

Desert Robot Commandos by Binary Gambit 2013-12-17T00:41:00

0RBITALIS by AlanZucconi 2013-12-17T23:16:00

Love it! Simple mechanic but engaging and challenging. Awesome use of minimal graphics which really supports the space theme.

Starbeard: The Curse of the Space Whales by Those 30 Ninjas 2013-12-18T00:10:00

Nice! Simple mechanic but great use of sfx to reinforce it getting stuck.

You Only Get 1 by Monoquartz 2013-12-18T00:13:00

Ah i get it! I got stuck for ages on the second level but then realized i had to divide! Awesome concept, great work!

The Last Bullet by Toureiro 2013-12-17T21:23:00

Nice graphics and interesting idea.

Candy Runner by AtomicVikings 2013-12-17T02:00:00

Linux is case sensitive, files needed renaming. Changing input is a nice idea!

Afterwife by Bribz 2013-12-17T21:11:00

The title made me laugh. I liked the overall design of the level. I wish I could use the glide function whilst on the ground.

Drone! by FistBumpGames 2013-12-18T00:20:00

Love the art and the animation. Movement was a bit off but the whole thing is very tense and atmospheric. Nice!

30 ducks, 1 Stone! by sadiquo 2013-12-17T18:21:00

I liked the style and initial idea for this game, unless I'm missing something other than the giant seamonnster option I would have liked to see a chain-reaction system.

The Day the Laughter Stopped by Crabman 2013-12-17T23:47:00

The link to the theme completely hit me out of the blue. It made for very uncomfortable reading (in a good way) and it's great to see people doing this kind of thing. Very well written. Good job!

Gem breaker 28 by rezil 2013-12-18T14:20:00

Very addictive gameplay! I had a lot of fun playing this.

One Look by bluemanshoe 2013-12-18T00:06:00

Loved the concept. Got very tense in some parts where the SFX really play a bit part. Revealing what killed you would have been cool as i died a lot without knowing why. Good job!

ESCAPE FROM PRISON! by Flux 2013-12-17T23:53:00

Nice game! Impressive you've got procedural generated levels in there in 48 hours. A problem I had was that I never seemed to be able to get caught or use the items, so it was just a scout out the area mission for me! Different objectives would have been nice or even a random lock down where i have to run back to my cell without being spotted.

One Video Game by SoundGuy 2013-12-17T23:57:00

One of the best i've played! Love the idea, came out of nowhere, and the ending was great! Interesting games like this are what Ludum dare is all about!

Spring Crate by torcado 2013-12-18T00:03:00

Great entry! That hill near the start had me for ages! Felt awesome conquering it though. Would love to see a bit of a gentler ramp up in difficulty and personally I wanted a longer (visually) but faster (in time) charge bar.

Goblyrinth by Mlle Eole 2013-12-18T13:43:00

A fun and interesting experience. I really enjoyed the dialogue!
