One String Hero by dementor561 2013-12-20T01:36:00
Interesting game idea, but it's lacking some polish. I had no idea when the enemies struck me and when I struck them they'd just disappear. Also, the audio in the intro is too loud and clipping.

Nice one! Well polished and humorous :)
I found this game really hard. I could barely reach the fire extinguisher and could in no way reach the box. I almost made it once, missed it and so I gave up.
Interestingly, there is another game I found that's set in space and requires you to use the only fire extinguisher to move. Here it is: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-28/?action=preview&uid=25406 (not affiliated in any way :))
Very well put together. You create an excellent atmosphere. I like the art and the music is nice.
Hey guys, if you happen to return here, thanks for the feedback! :)
So far I've learned that an aiming line would be good, that some people miss the controls and that I should guide them better through the game.
Thanks again, folks! You're making this a great first Ludum Dare :)
The boss is great :)
I had a problem with the game, though. Sometimes, one bully will get stuck in a corner and won't run away off screen, preventing you from finishing the level.
I liked the combat mechanics. It's fun and simple and it could work very well as a touch-enabled game. The screen shake effect is nice and the audio is well placed.
I think you could have added some more "juice". I don't get enough feedback when I hit an enemy without killing him. Also, it seems that collision detection is skipping objects sometime when you swing. Another thing that would have been nice to have are some animations when you pickup XP balls (the attraction is great, btw). And it bothered me a bit that intro and instructions were in such low resolution.
All in all, I liked this game. 4/5 :)
Interesting idea, but I found it quite difficult to put the PROXIES into the MAW. Also, the art was off putting to me.
Enjoyed playing this. I really like the twist happens when you sacrifice your friend too early. :) The story is nice, as well. In the end I had a feeling this was a dream of a person dying of cancer.
Last puzzle was too hard. There were too many fireballs everywhere and it turned into a game of testing patience.
Nice work, mate!
Well done!
Could you upload a version without the installer?
Good art and well polished. Too bad you only get one level.
Yep, your art is great.
It's a bit confusing at first. Very nice idea and puzzle design.
Well done, man! That's quite fun for a 5 hour game and the mood is spot on :) I only wish you didn't have to click twice to check another piece of paper.
Nice idea, good level design :)
Interesting little puzzle game. Very good art style.
Very well done, mate! Brilliant idea and well implemented.
The only qualms I have are the waiting time in front of the gate and graphics which simply don't suite my taste. The pig guard's dialogue lines are great, though.
And by the way, thanks for the awesome feedback you gave me!
Nice! Pretty graphics and pretty polished. It felt a bit too easy since you could retrieve the rock and the fork at any time.
Wonderful art, great mood! The game really tests your patience :) The audio sets the mood right, but it is somewhat repetitive.
I really like the UI, the way the game is played on a map and the ship leaves a trail. Very nice.
The game's fun too play, though I'd like it if the ship was a bit faster or had less drag. As it is it feels a bit heavy.
Nice puzzle, though it would have been nice to have some feeling of progress or at least a rising difficulty.
Nice one. Would be a bit better if the bullets didn't lose speed when bouncing.
Really good mood and exposition. I liked it :)
It's not obvious what you're supposed to do in the game. Took me a bit to figure it out.
Interesting art style. The gameplay itself is too grindy for my taste. Would have liked it if I had more options, like different spells for example.
This was nice. Would have liked to see more gameplay.
Why did you put AdFly links? They don't work for me (using Ghostery).
Graphics are great and the idea is good, but I found different spells rather similar to each other. Would have liked it if there were noticeably differen. For example, fire could burn enemies and deal damage over time, lightning could arch from one enemy to another, etc.
Nice take on Iron Chef and cooking games :D
Nice idea; made me really feel like a hoarder. Controls are a bit wonky, and you probably need a license for that music :/
Very nice graphics and atmosphere. The game is really interesting, but it does become tedious after a few deaths. Like others here, I am wondering if there is a good ending :D
The idea is great! Too bad you didn't get to make more levels. I also loved the animations you made.
Good twist on the "you only get one shot". I liked the animations you made and the music in the game. They make a really fine disco atmosphere. Some more feedback after "stabbing" a person would be nice (e.g. a short animation).
Interesting idea and nice art, though the 2D ship frame doesn't fit very well with the 3D environment. I wish the ship was constantly moving around, like the players do in Typing Of The Dead, instead of just swinging.
You're a tougher man then I am. I missed a couple of Ludum Darec because I was sick.
Anyway, your art style is nice, but the floor tiles don't seem to fit. Your game catches the atmosphere of "Oh dear God, I'm doing chores all day", which many kids usually don't notice about their mothers. Which is nice :)
Very nice! I really liked your art! The animations are very smooth and you had nice particle effects. Didn't like the music, though.
Great take on the theme! Really liked the gameplay.
Very nice idea and very nice pixel art. The music vas a bit repetitive and it would be nice to see what kind of impact our arrest has (did we apprehend the real criminal?).
This is wonderful. You manage to set the right mood and bring us the difficulty that this family is having. And that is great art, especially for someone who isn't an artist.
I had to run the game with "-Xmx1024m" parameter; I was getting out of memory errors otherwise.
Sorry, but the graphics were painful for me :/
Heh, I expected a different kind of game based on your description :) It was still fun, but it was possible to connect the start and the end through the walls in one line. Was that intended?
It starts slow, but it gets intense mid-game when you're trying to outmaneuver ten enemies at once :)
I couldn't run this game on Windows 7 (32-bit). The executable won't run at all.
Oh, man, that was intense! You set a wonderful mood. I liked this game a lot. I only wish I could move a little faster. But I guess that's the idea :D
Very interesting idea. Took me a while to figure it out. Would be nice if top and bottom areas had different colors or symbols. Some audio would be nice to.
All in all I liked the game, but got too frustrated to keep playing :P
Nice idea. The controls aren't working the best though. They work like repeating characters in a text editor does.
Awesome idea! There was a similar game in 3D on Kickstarter and I also wanted to make something like this.
I was confused by that flying creature. It's too fast and avoiding it feels more like luck than skill. Try to add some more polish next time: death animations/screen fades, audio, prettier menu,... such stuff.
Nice game, well polished. Not sure if it is possible to actually hit and destroy the alien ship?
The background tiles gave me a headache :/
Oh, yes, it's much more intense without controls. Quite an experience.
Nice game, very well polished. I thought the humans were zombies at first, but got the hang of it soon.
Very nice and well polished!
Great art, Nicolas! Very addictive game as well.
Bwahaha, you gave us a physics assignment :D In the end, I didn't feel very nice about hitting the girl :/
Very well done.
Heh, I kinda had a similar interpretation of the theme. The mechanics seem well implemented, but the first level is hard :/ Couldn't get through it.
Ohhh, yes. Thanks for the feedback, BtheDestroyer !
This game looks really nice and well polished. Felt a bit too easy, though. Nice use of the theme.
The game stutters for me when there's a lot of action going on. It's a bit confusing at first, but becomes much more dynamic when you get the hang of it. Well done.
You set a really good mood! Seeing your your shelter get destroyed when you're unable to repair it and the losing your family is quite unnerving.
The gameplay (dodging bombs and collecting boxes), on the other hand, gets tedious quickly. Even though you have a great atmosphere, this dissuaded me from replaying and trying to survive.
